I went for the Husqvarna 535LK & it's proved to be a fantastic machine with shed loads of power! Bought a second one a couple of months ago, awesome bit of kit!!!
I just got the 535LS. It's stupid powerful.
I’m a commercial guy and have 2 Husqvarna 128ld models with attachment I purchased almost 10 years ago! They both still work and we use as backups for breakdowns…. Best string trimmer I have ever owned for price definitely! I own Stihl kombi units and echo but the Husqvarna is bullet proof.
Mines still running good too.
I have the same walmart Weedeater for years and now have the 128LD. You made the right choice.
That Walmart weedeater won't die. It shoots projectiles directly into your mouth and neck....but just keeps ticking.
Just a tip, I can't emphasize this enough, RUN ALL 2 STROKE EQUIPMENT AT FULL THROTTLE!!! I work at a small engine shop, not running them at full throttle will not properly burn the oil, creating a lot of carbon buildup, which will plug the engine up, make it run not at peak performance, and sometimes score the piston and cylinder, making the engine useless
Great tip. Thank you.
Stay away from my windows and yard with that please and thank you
Quick tip. When pouring from full containers like the fuel was in. Rotate it so the opening is on the top and it will keep it from spilling
This is my primary weed eater, picked it up used it for $40 off the cralighlist (was using Echo SRM210 which is my backup). Overall, great consumer weed eater and has great torque. One thing to keep in mind, this weed eater is picky about the spark plug it uses, make sure you use a resistor spark plug (E3.10 or NGK resistor works great). If not engine could bog down on full throttle (even with a new carb, fuel line, air filter, fuel filter, clean spark arrestor). Almost threw it away cause of bogging issue.
Just saw this comment, sorry. I noticed with tall grass mine bogs down easy. I mow often, so it's not an issue, but with a couple new yards I have I've noticed it more and more. Still stock spark plug - wonder if a change would improve it.
@@weekendhomeprojects I am a fan of OEM plugs...if I was going to change out say Champion plugs in a Toro powerhead, I would put in NGK the same as in my Echo/Shindaiwa/Maruyama equipment...I will be considering this powerhead for my attachment tools as the Echo PAS units and all new attachments are too pricey for the limited use they get...thanks for this video
I’ve had my 128ld for going on 12 plus years now. Hasn’t ever missed a beat. Only thing I’ve done to it is a new set of fuel lines and primer bulb a few years ago after the original lines started leaking
Yeah mine is still cranking on the 2nd pull. It’s been a good one so far….on its 3rd year.
a tip: When you pour fuel out of the can, orient the can outlet to the top so that air can enter the can when you pour. No sloshing that way.
Someone also suggested pouring from the side. Tried that and it works well.
@@weekendhomeprojects hello
bought mine about 2yrs ago it still runs like beast
Thanks for sharing. I'm loving mine so far.
Got my Husqvarna 128LD last year. No, it’s not a commercial grade trimmer, but mine doesn’t seem to lack any power. I’ve ripped through some pretty heavy weeds and undergrowth in the woods that start at the edge of my backyard. But of course after the first tank of fuel through it, I readjusted the H/L screws on the carb. I also picked up the Poulan Pro edger and mini tiller attachments. Haven’t used the mini tiller yet, but the edger works great. And two weeks ago I made the best purchase for it. The Echo SpeedFeed 400 replacement head. I wanted to keep it all Husqvarna and get their new Rapid Replace head, but there have been too many reports of it breaking early. Do I regret owning my 128LD? Not one bit!
Awesome, thanks for sharing. I may have to check that edger out. Where did you get it?
@@weekendhomeprojects I ordered the edger attachment from Mowers Direct. The mini tiller/cultivar attachment was from Amazon. Here’s the link for the edge.

Still rocking the 128? How's it treating you this year?
@@weekendhomeprojects Still running great. A couple weeks ago, I was beating it like a rented mule. Bought the pole saw attachment for it and had a ball of fun clearing out about 40’ of black locust thicket along a steep bank. Everything from about 2” thick to the size of my forearm. The 128LD needed a little more power, but slow and steady got the job done. I won’t lie, I’ve been looking at the 535LST, but I’ll keep using my 128LD until it gives up the ghost.
Pro tip: Don't ever fuel your lawn equipment on the grass. Spillage can kill the grass.
I have mostly weeds, so death is welcome :). But yes good tip.
I was just thinking the same thing
@@michaeldwyer1966 lol
Anyone should know that.
Bought the 330LK today love it
Good trimmer for the price plus attachments to fit without the commercial price. If you can time it right has alot of low end torque. Good for attachments.
You still using yours? I love that it starts up without issue every time so far for my first year.
I have one it’s a great trimmer for it’s price..no complaints.
that's stanley black'n'decker for ya.especially after they bought MTD, them and husqvarna are besties. honestly though that 128ld is a weird item, given that husqvarna makes their own kombi system. i guess it doesn't hurt them since they own craftsman, and troy-bilt, AND Dewalt! now all they have to do is buy out TTI and they'll rule the world.
Good vid, bought same model recently, same issue with the gas cap. Apparently, your machine was missing the temporary gas tank cap that keeps out any debris.
How's it treating you this season? I've noticed on tall grass mine bogs down a bit.
@@weekendhomeprojects shorten your string when dealing with taller an thicker grass too much string it’ll just wrap around the head
@@yunginwildin227 How do you shorten? Have to manually cut it? With snips?
Craftsman gas powered tools are owned and made by Husqvarna group. Husqvarna is owned by Stanley / Black and Decker.
Husqvarna makes:
Husqvarna
Gardena
McCulloch
PoulanPro
Weed Eater
Flymo
Jonsered
Klippo
Diamant Boart
RedMax
HTC
Blastrac
Craftsman
Yeah, I had read that while searching for this one. It's surprising they don't make the craftsman as sturdy as the Husq. They can't be saving more than a few bucks on the cheaper plastic.
Love my 128 ld
Cuts buttery smooth
I hove the stihl fs 94 r as my primary trimmer and it’s a absolute beast but I think this one would be a good back up
Still rocking your Stihl?
Is that trimmer long or tall in a sense did you experience back ache!! I’m really bout to go to Home Depot.
Can’t beat a good bump to get your string going 👊
Best feeling in the world!
I just got it delivered literally now still in the box gift from wife for father's day I had doubts about but after your video they went away thanks for the video looks pretty damn good especially for the price is fast too I would of be flying with it would got that done half the time you 😂 just playing good job by the way and God Bless
Haha. Glad it helped. Enjoy, it’s a good
machine.
@@weekendhomeprojects hello
Still liking your 128?
@@weekendhomeprojects I have a dewalt cordless string trimmer
I hammered that like button
Appreciate it!
Can you tell me witch way the head turns clockwise or counterclockwise
Awesome video!!
@@showtime813 thanks :). Couple years later and it’s still starting on the 2nd crank. No complaints.
The 128LD will work with the universal attachment system that TrimmerPlus uses. It's the same connection as Ryobi's eXpandit system. Most all brands use that system. Most Husqvarna, all Echo, and all Stihl each have their own proprietary system that isn't compatible with the other systems. A 128LDX would not work with the same attachments that the 128LD would.
Yeah, I got the hedge trimmer attachment. It's a heavy unit for doing normal hedges, but I have two holly bushes that are so big I can't reach the top with anything but the husq and timmerplus hedge trimmer attachment. Use it about twice a year.
Was pulling the start cord easy, or did it feel difficult and have snap-back like a Sthil trimmer. I am looking for a trimmer with a very easy comfortable pull to start. Thank you
I can only compare it to the old walmart trimmer I had before. The Husqvarna is easier. It's always two easy pulls on full choke, then one pull on half choke and it starts. No pull back on start like on my old trimmer, which had a pretty strong pull back.
@@weekendhomeprojects Thank you
Starts easily 👍
Do you have to remove the head to load string? Or is it a speed feed type of head?
You don't have to remove the entire head. You remove the cover by pressing the two clips on the side, then the string holder slides out. Add string, slide back on, then insert the cover until the clips engage. Then you're ready to get to work.
Was looking at the WC4200 but it is MTD made unit. So Husqvarna or Stihl is the way to go
What did you end up getting?
What is the difference between the 128L and the 128LD
I don't know for sure, but this is my guess. I read that the 128L was discontinued and replaced by the 128LD. The 128CD has a curved shaft. "C" for curved? The 128LD has a straight shaft. Maybe the "L" has something to do with "straight"? With both the 128CD and 128LD you can detatch the head and add other attachments such as a hedge trimmer or pole saw. That's likely where the "D" comes into play. My guess is the 128L did not have this option and thus didn't have the "D".
Got the 330LK and it went out next day. Plus the trimmer plus attachments weren’t compatible. Ordered the craftsman ws2200 straight shaft coming in a week, the trimmer plus attachments are compatible with it.
Craftsman sucks, buy a husqvarna 128ld instead
Trimmer plus is compatible with the 128ld.
Did you ever get any craftsman attachments and confirm they are compatible?
I did get an attachment. I thought they were Craftsman attachments because the lettering was red and I don't pay attention (haha), but the brand is actually TrimmerPlus. Video here - ua-cam.com/video/F9lC10DvH3k/v-deo.html
I bought the trimmer plus attachments they work just fine.
Just a heads up. I hate mine. I should have gotten the Echo srm225. Yes it doesn't have the attachments but the 128ld lacks power. To the point I almost threw it into the bushes yesterday. It's great for light work. I just retuned the carb.....from the factory some or most are not tuned right... and got the rpms to max out. It still dies down when hitting the tall weeds. Now on the other hand my trusty 25cc craftsman weed eater rips through 1/4" thick branches , weeds, your boots and the whiny neighbor is drowned out by the manly and beastly cackle of the wicked 2 stroke. My wife actually thought the Husky was a weak toy when she heard me use it for the first time LOL. And yes it is a weak toy that I can only use on grass LOL. Gonna mod the muffler and will let you know if it is worth the time.
You have some specific problem there I have one and it runs great plenty of power.
I picked up the 128 CD on sale, can I swap out the curved shaft for a straight shaft attachment?
Not sure - let me know if you find out. Good luck
Yes you can
When you pour fuel hold the can side ways opening to the top and you won't need a funnel
Thanks, I'll try that next time.
Any vids on attachments like the brush cutter head?
No, I haven’t bought any attachments yet. May in the spring.
@@weekendhomeprojects I can't even find where to buy the brush cutter head
Pro tip mow the grass not the fence
Haha, good call.
I just bought mine and I cut my yard and edged it nicely but I went to cut my neighbors yard and tried to edge it too and everytime I flip it over to start edging it turns off any recommendations I just got it today ?
Got enough gas in it?
Now that I think about it I screwed the cap on wrong and it was leaking like in the video so probably not thanks for the reply
@@matthewcortez2352 Easy to do, not sure why that cap is so hard to screw on the 1st time. I constantly catch myself cross threading it. I also notice when I'm low on gas and flip the unit to one side or the other it can't get gas.
Because the pick up filter moves out of the gas if it doesn’t have enough fuel in it to prevent it.
SOUNDS GOOD BUT I WANT TO SEE IT IN HEAVY TALL GRASS.
I'll be trimming a family members yard that hasn't kept it up all year in the coming weeks. I'll make a video and share. The 128 is great for home owners that keep up their yard. The few times I've used it on tall unkept grass it struggles (gets bogged down). Not enough power. If you consistently need to use it for that (i.e. commercial), the 128 probably isn't the best option.
You didn't get the new head on this model. Too bad. It is fantastic
Really? Bummer.
Lol bro you called that long grass right there that grass looks like it's already been cut
what was the gas from on the garage floor ?
I cross threaded the gas cap so it was leaking all down my leg and onto the floor.
@@weekendhomeprojects thank you
Is there an Amazon link to this?
www.amazon.com/dp/B004Q0HUYO/
How much was it?
It was $219
@@weekendhomeprojects right now Lowe's have it for 143$$
Those trimmer pro attachment don't work
Which ones? The Husqvarna or Craftsman? Or both?
I have a husqvarna
Welcome to the club. :)
This product sucks- leaks gas when holding upside down to edge. Poor quality.
I don't have a lot of edging to do so I haven't had that issue. But I will keep an eye out for it, thanks for the heads up.
Mine was a piece of shit
@@rustyshackleford3647 Still using mine, but I’ve noticed on a couple new yards I mow it’s not great with really high grass.
Firstly you need to learn how to use it
Lol good point
