@@qwertymanor That's another great episode, but for me The Constant has that great buildup and that last scene with Desmond and Penny was done masterfully. it's like a good rom-com where the couple kisses in the rain.. cheesy.. but still effective.
What I REALLY liked was the slow camera closing in on Chuck's face as he slowly becomes unhinged. The timing of it zooming in slowly was genius and perfectly timed. Better Call Saul is a study in character development in television.
Been waiting for this reaction since you started reacting to BCS. So many great moments here. That Chuck’s breakdown, satisfying as it may seem to others, is such a heartbreaking moment as well. It is a sick joke that Michael McKean neither win nor got nominated for an Emmy on this. For me, this is up there at the top 5 as one of the best episodes of BB/BCS universe.
What happened this episode was basically an arbitration. It's a civil case where both parties agree to abide by a decision made by a panel of judges. The rules are far less strict so they can produce results far faster at the cost of being unable to appeal because it's not technically a court case. This is in Chuck's best interest as he wants to reach a speedy agreement that won't get Jimmy in trouble per se, but will force him to step down as a lawyer. He also didn't have to go through any rules of evidence to get the tape played, but Jimmy was equally able to present the pictures of Chuck's house. Also Jimmy pulling the stunt with the battery probably would've gotten him thrown out of court. And to take it a step further Kim probably wouldn't have been allowed to represent Jimmy in the first place because of her proximity to the case(remember he said her name directly on the tape). Ultimately, what Chuck saw as a slam dunk also gave Jimmy enough wiggle room to do what he does best.
The show is really just at it's best when it plays with the concept of lawyering outside of the context of the strict legalities of the courtroom, such as Jimmy pleading the case of the skater kids to Tuco, or Kim arguing a case with another character later on (no explanation required)
"This is in Chuck's best interest as he wants to reach a speedy agreement that won't get Jimmy in trouble per se, but will force him to step down as a lawyer" Wouldn't that be in Jimmy's best interest?
You're correct about it not being a court case, however it also wasn't an arbitration. It was simply a hearing before a disciplinary commission of the state bar association, not an arbitral suit. In other words this was not a civil case between Jimmy and Chuck. Chuck is not a party to the procedure. Jimmy and the state bar are the two parties in the procedure from a legal perspective, Chuck is merely a witness.
@@lewanbroski504 Staying out of Jail is more important than being a Lawyer don't you think? It's in Jimmy's best interest that Chuck reduced it from Jail time to disbarment.
That they were laughing during that is a bit sad. It was of course smart by Jimmy but it was a sad moment. Jimmy obviously loves his brother but he had to destroy him like this. And the worst thing is that chuck is right in everything, even though he is a douchebag.
@@ThaMattOfficial Give them a chance and see how they respond to the next couple of episodes. I don’t want to give away spoilers in case they’re not that far yet on Patreon, but I’m confident that they’ll soon be empathizing with Chuck more and understanding the level of tragedy his character goes through. And even if they don’t… it’s a TV show. And it’s a first time reaction. We don’t know any of the guys personally. I completely understand how you feel and you have every right to feel that way about it. But I just hope people don’t take it out on them like a few have on other channels. I think on Imon Snow and Abi’s reaction to this episode, some people were leaving comments as if their reaction was them cheering on a guy for microwaving a baby. No one should get upset enough to comment insults disdainfully. It’s a TV show. There’s meant to be a baked-in level of entertainment and recognition that it’s fiction. Unless they’re toxic individuals irl or it’s apparent that they’re misinterpreting the show to an unhealthy degree, let people be entertained.
@@stovesofa ikr, especially how people are watching the video for THEIR reaction. If everyone reacted the same way it would be boring, it’s fun to see how different people view the scene.
one of my favorite shots in this episode is right at the end after Chuck asks if there are any more questions and the look on Jimmy's face shows that he feels awful about what he just did. as much as Chuck has put Jimmy through, Jimmy still cares about his brother and you can tell that he wishes he could have done it any other way. Bob Odenkirk is a phenomenal actor, as is Michael Mckean. top tier episode of BCS.
@@fakub2026 true! very good point that I never thought about before. makes me think of that episode with the arbitrator lady before where Jimmy is “apologizing” and says that nobody should ever treat their own brother that way. Jimmy is such a good brother and Chuck is just not.
@@BhBc8f8 big whoop. those two times doesn't make up for the lifetime of neglect and hatred. let's face it, the law means more to Chuck than his own brother's happiness. period. hell, Chuck's ego means more to him than his own brother's happiness.
@@the_nikster1 I never said it did. You said Chuck wasn't a good brother, I'm saying if he was really as bad of a brother as you make it out to be then Jimmy would've been convicted as a felon and registered as a sex offender, period. And their deal afterwards was "If i do this, do not make a fool out of me". We see that Chuck lived up to his bargain and got him out, but Jimmy clearly didn't and straight up humiliated him in front of his woman, friends and colleagues. Also didn't we see them singing and camping together in the flashbacks, how does that equal "a lifetime of hatred and neglect."? Personally tho I just can't stand behind purposefully using someone's mental health against them even if it was in a time where society didn't know much about mental illness. It's still pretty low and cowardly but I guess it's good foreshadowing that there is no line Saul won't cross to get what he wants.
I’ve recently had a falling out with my sister, where a lot of her true underlying feelings she felt about me for YEARS finally came out. My heart breaks for Jimmy when Chuck snaps… Jimmy’s sacrificed so much and loved his brother for so long… of course Jimmy felt his brother was against him at times but to hear from his own mouth that he’s resented him since 9 years old… 💔 It’s really sad, I completely understand why Jimmy changes to Saul after this, there’s just this massive weight lifted once you don’t care about that toxic person in your life anymore 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻💯💯💯💯
This was the first moment in Better Call Saul that I realized I felt bad about rooting for Jimmy. We all know what he's going to become, and Chuck knew. And we all cheered for him anyway.
Well Chuck contributed to Jimmy’s downward spiral. He couldn’t stand that Jimmy became a lawyer like him. If he was supportive of Jimmy he would never have turned into Saul.
@@justinarmetta3367 riiiiight, and Jimmy sabotaging that old lady's relationship, was that Chuck's doing as well? I guess him sabotaging his job at Davis & Main was also Chuck's fault. It's Charles McGill not Charles Xavier. Saul has never once pointed at Chuck as a reason for his downfall and neither should we.
@@BhBc8f8 Jimmy obviously has issues, but he was trying to change. Chuck likes to compare Jimmy to an alcoholic, and that's pretty accurate. The situation in the show is like if Jimmy was trying to quit drinking but the person he looked up to kept telling him he'll never change. It's not fair to blame Chuck entirely for the way Jimmy is, but he definitely contributed to the downward spiral quite a bit.
Jimmy wanted to do right as a lawyer working under Chuck but Chuck is the one who kept manipulating and pushing Jimmy away which is fueled a lot by jealousy.
you guys are the first ones i've seen to immediately catch that chuck was thinking of comparing jimmy to the freakin unabomber!! i knew i loved watching you all for a reason!
The dynamic between these 2 brothers is so intense and complex, I love it. This scene in particular always gets me pumped, even though I know Jimmy isn't always on the right, in this case Chuck totally brought it on himself. Chuck's breakdown also is very similar to Jimmy's, in the episode after Jimmy found out about the tape. It's so crazy that they keep going back and forth, one upping each other and that leaves the viewer always on the edge. From one side I know Jimmy's wrong, but from the other side we know that Chuck can be a bit of a prick. I think in the end, both want what they can't have. Jimmy always longed for his brother respect but never get it, and Chuck wanted the law to be preserved and ethical, and he never got it either. Their relationship is a great concept to be discussed in a show about law, because there is no wrong or right in this situation imo, they're both wrong and right in their own terms. Two brothers fighting for their best interest, it's all a grey area in this, unless you're a "moral knight" who thinks Chuck is always right.
After 7 episodes in to season 6 and I still think this is the best BCS episode so far, and for those who haven't made it that far, believe me that's saying A LOT
This ep is one of the best of the best of Better Call Saul... this is the show's half way point and when the show made a turn. This show is pure BCS, and doesn't have to rely on its Breaking Bad connection. It's all pure performance.
I love this show so much, I just always have a compulsion to keep watching but I'm watching this 1 episode a week with the guys cuz I ain't got time :I
It's perfectly normal and reasonable to rehearse your testimony specifically to avoid Perry Mason and Chicanery moments. The show plays with that in the same way Jimmy plays the council. You know that Chuck is right, mostly, but everything up to this has been showing resentment towards Jimmy so it comes off as insincere. Chuck is first and foremost, a good lawyer. And a good lawyer prepares.
This the episode that took the show from mostly good and great to outstanding and masterpiece level and the one we all want to see. Glad you’re watching this amazing show!
the worst part is that Chuck is right, Jimmy did do all those things and he is a guy that simply loves to manipulate, distorce and bend anything to make it his way. His whole speech at the end is true. But them you start to think that, if Chuck wasn't jealous and so close minded about Jimmy, he could've actually changed into someone better and it's just... UGH GOD THIS SHOW IS SO GOOD
Ah interesting, all the times I've seen this episode, I don't think I ever quite thought about what Aaron brought up in the discussion about the flashback in the beginning. That in that instance, because it was for his own benefit, Chuck totally wanted Jimmy to do what he otherwise hates, which is tricking and lying to people. I get that Chuck specifically hates it when Jimmy does it to mess around with the law in particular, but still, it's pretty interesting that yes, Chuck basically wanted Slippin' Jimmy in that moment.
This is one of the best episodes in the BB universe...the writing, the acting, the camera shots...The payoff of Jimmy showing everyone that Chuck is crazy..I love Howard's face haha...Michael Mckean was incredible....Been waiting for you guys to get to this one!!!
people like to practice ahead of time depending the case , specially a witness since the kind of questions ask of you can swing the stand one way or another and might make you look bad aka chuck LMAO
@@chrisklitou7573 Why the fuck would Saul's first reaction be to mention Nacho? Explain that genius. Is Saul somehow aware of what Nacho did to Lalo and his family? Use your head.
I love how Jimmy looked down and away from his brother when he revealed the battery in his pocket. You can still tell he loved him and how much it pained him to embarrass him publicly.
It's a very toxic kind of love, since it also includes doctoring Chuck's documents (thus embarrassing him publicly and making his mental condition even worse) and forcibly breaking into Chuck's house, threatening to burn it to the ground. Or even in episode 1, telling Howard that Chuck will never return to work again and that it's time to cash him out and basically liquidate the firm. Not to mention the final backstab with the insurance. Chuck would be much better off if he never brought Jimmy to ABQ.
I like how they are openly rooting for evilness But I wish at least one of them could understand both sides of the story even though it makes sense to root for the main character
There's this weird attitude from a minority of BCS fans that the true way to enjoy BCS and grasp the "truth" of it is to constantly condemn Jimmy and uphold Chuck. I can only assume it comes from a self-identification with Chuck that implies serious personal issues.
I think they would have objected to the use of the battery. You could argue planting that would be not only unethical but borderline illegal. All of that said, if this were real Kim would not be allowed to represent Jimmy since she's a material witness.
12:34 Someone in the cast's phone vibrates, and I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out what notification I was missing on my phone, because it was sitting on my desk, and the sound was muffled so I thought it was muffled by my headphones

"This is in Chuck's best interest as he wants to reach a speedy agreement that won't get Jimmy in trouble per se, but will force him to step down as a lawyer"
Wouldn't that be in Jimmy's best interest?
@@BhBc8f8 no? Jimmy wants to stay as a lawyer, Chuck doesn't care about his brother being in jail he just doesn't think Jimmy should be a lawyer ever
One of the greatest pieces of acting I’ve ever seen. And just a simple slow zoom in conveys so much tone.
This is the moment BCS became my favourite show ever. Perfectly written, set and acted.
This episode (and season) turned a good show into a GREAT show.
This show is definitely overrated and it's in no way better than BB but it does have its moments
@@Luke-cu7bf terrible take
@@Luke-cu7bf L take
It's a crime they didn't acknowledge Michael McKean's incredible acting
They also didn't for Jonathan Banks in season 1 Episode 6
That they were laughing during that is a bit sad. It was of course smart by Jimmy but it was a sad moment. Jimmy obviously loves his brother but he had to destroy him like this. And the worst thing is that chuck is right in everything, even though he is a douchebag.
Didn’t he get an award for this episode? He got plenty of acknowledgment for his acting here
@@ThaMattOfficial Give them a chance and see how they respond to the next couple of episodes.
It's so crazy how differently I feel about this episode and many other Chuck moments before and after the end of this season.
Finally! This is one of the all-time best BCS episodes. So hyped for your reaction
one of my favorite shots in this episode is right at the end after Chuck asks if there are any more questions and the look on Jimmy's face shows that he feels awful about what he just did. as much as Chuck has put Jimmy through, Jimmy still cares about his brother and you can tell that he wishes he could have done it any other way. Bob Odenkirk is a phenomenal actor, as is Michael Mckean. top tier episode of BCS.
I think is also about the pain of listening how your brother hates you so much. Nobody is ready for something like that... even if he expected it.
@@fakub2026 true! very good point that I never thought about before. makes me think of that episode with the arbitrator lady before where Jimmy is “apologizing” and says that nobody should ever treat their own brother that way. Jimmy is such a good brother and Chuck is just not.
@@the_nikster1 If Chuck wasn't a good brother Jimmy would be in Jail twice.
YOU GUYS CAN WATCH THE LEGAL EAGLE EPISODE ABOUT THIS ONE NOW. ITS SUCH A GOOD VIDEO. THROUGH A SUNROOF
Was just about to say that. (Sadly) watched it before watching BCS, but it was still a fun journey to here.

The episode that changes everything for the show. Absolutely pheomenal on all fronts. Michael McKean was especially amazing.

Holy shit, I was caught so off guard by that Huell voice 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think I can speak for everyone when I say we were waiting for this episode reaction
Jimmy McGill outsmarted the law and no one in Breaking Bad ever listened to him.
*SPOILER*
"That's gonna kill him." when talking about Chuck... spot on!
I’ve recently had a falling out with my sister, where a lot of her true underlying feelings she felt about me for YEARS finally came out.
My heart breaks for Jimmy when Chuck snaps… Jimmy’s sacrificed so much and loved his brother for so long… of course Jimmy felt his brother was against him at times but to hear from his own mouth that he’s resented him since 9 years old… 💔
It’s really sad, I completely understand why Jimmy changes to Saul after this, there’s just this massive weight lifted once you don’t care about that toxic person in your life anymore 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻💯💯💯💯
This was the first moment in Better Call Saul that I realized I felt bad about rooting for Jimmy. We all know what he's going to become, and Chuck knew. And we all cheered for him anyway.
A credit to the writing team
At long last they have finally made it to THE episode
I watched this episode late last night and couldn't stop thinking about it!
If you want to see the inspiration of the monologue and reaction shot of this episode, see the courtroom scene in “The Caine Mutiny”.
you guys are the first ones i've seen to immediately catch that chuck was thinking of comparing jimmy to the freakin unabomber!! i knew i loved watching you all for a reason!
I like how they're like PR, but they didn't think of something even worse, INSURANCE.
HE DEFECTED THROUGH A SUN ROOF
This is top tier television folks. Doesn't get much better than this
I can think of much better shows
After 7 episodes in to season 6 and I still think this is the best BCS episode so far, and for those who haven't made it that far, believe me that's saying A LOT

This ep is one of the best of the best of Better Call Saul... this is the show's half way point and when the show made a turn. This show is pure BCS, and doesn't have to rely on its Breaking Bad connection. It's all pure performance.
Been anticipating this episode since you started season 3!

*”HE DEFECATED THROUGH A SUN ROOF!”*
Time for some chicanery
I'm doing a rewatch and saw this last night. Best episode of the season.
This is the one I’ve been waiting for them to see!!! The court scene.
One of the best episodes of any TV show
2:00 The whole blind wave crew lowered their heads in disappointment I’m laughing out loud lol
This is the moment that Chuck becomes Heisenberg
Ahhhh we’re finally here. Basically the best episode until a few in season 5. Chucks meltdown is sad, yet epic.
Top 3 episodes of this series and that’s saying a lot. Simply brilliant

Yessss I’ve been waiting for this one. Maybe my favorite bcs episode 👀
"Sunroof" is my family's euphemism for taking a dump because of this episode.
12:00 chicanery button
The first of the many Better Call Saul episodes to reach Breaking Bad level. It just gets crazier from here on out.

Time for the best episode of the series
I wouldn't go that far, but top 10 sure, maybe top 5
I like how they are openly rooting for evilness
But I wish at least one of them could understand both sides of the story even though it makes sense to root for the main character
There's this weird attitude from a minority of BCS fans that the true way to enjoy BCS and grasp the "truth" of it is to constantly condemn Jimmy and uphold Chuck. I can only assume it comes from a self-identification with Chuck that implies serious personal issues.
Such a good episode.
Ahhh we are finally here
Great reaction! Love some Blind Wave chicanery!
Notice how Chuck says I knew it was 1216 as opposed to I knew it was 1261 - the right address
I think they would have objected to the use of the battery. You could argue planting that would be not only unethical but borderline illegal. All of that said, if this were real Kim would not be allowed to represent Jimmy since she's a material witness.
Such a good episode
