I have to say, The Death we Seek by Currents holds a special place in my heart. It brings me back to those long drives in the rain that i used to do going from my house to a very important person for me at the time. It was a sad and difficult time but i remember falling in love for this album in those moments. I think it's a gorgeous album starting from the riffs to the vocals and the brakedowns Also it's not metal but i really suggest you to check out Explosions, the new album by Three Days Grace. It's not what i expected from them but i think that album is a little precious gem
The memories around at that time mostly shape our feelings for some albums and i think thats great. Keep this time close to you, appreciate it, and look foward for the next time :) Its a journey after all

Very respectable list, Heavener is also my #1 pick, Invent have been my 3rd favorite band for the past few years now and it's been so awesome to see how much they've improved in that time, Marcus' vocals especially have improved so much in such a short time too, all the recognition they're getting now is so well deserved.

I am so happy Resolve was so dang high. They are by far my favorite band and are just crazy unique to themselves. Human isn't quite as perfect as BTMATM but that was literally the best first album I've ever heard. Human follows close behind it

When Color Decay by TDWP released last year, it kinda passed under my radar. Another cool thing about Half Me’s Soma is that it might be a reference to the satirical sci fi novel “Brave New World”. Soma in that novel is a wonder drug that induces a state of constant happiness. Its use is a reminder of how easily manipulated the masses are in this society, which the author connects to the real world.
Invent were unreachable this year, I agree 100%. So so so glad to find Resolve so high in your list, they were so BRAVE with their sound...they are so eclectic they deserve praise!

Heavener is #1 and nothing came close. Followed by Silent Planet, Polaris, Sleep Token. Then it’s everything else in various orders depending on the day.
Gideon was easily my #1 for the year. I love everything about that album and it never stops being fun. I won’t lie, Heavener took a while to grow on me, but I ended up really loving that album too, so I respect the placement of those two on this list.
Hell yeah dude! You and I have the same top 5! For me, Heavener was just untouchable. There isn't a single bad song on the album at all. It's so damn good. It gives me goosebumps every time. Also, I've said this a lot but I just can't get over how weird of a choice it was for Currents to not have any drum fills on the entire album on TDWS

Heavener is my favorite this year, but it felt more like a sidegrade rather than an upgrade from greyview. I think marcus coming into his own is the strongest part of the album.
Yeah after watching your explanation, you are right. It is a metalcore holy Grail. People can hate all they want but at the end of the day it's just the best. It feels leagues above everything else this year and I have so many albums I absolutely love this year. They all get a special place in my heart but Heavener just cannot be toppled. I'll die on that hill with you.

Im kinda surprised new Bury Tomorrow album doesnt get much credit, its just great melodic metalcore modernized in a perfect way, probably in my top 3 this year after TMBTE and Heavener, maybe people avoid it cause of vocalist change, but for some reason i got into them even more after that, eventho previous vocalist was awesome too
I don’t think anyone should be arguing against your top 5. It is the objective, universal top 5 albums of the year, or at least it should be. The Currents album is the only album that I think is underrated here, but only because I love every song off that album. I also understand tho that it did not bring as much of a great album experience, so fair play.
Glad to see you give the love to Tether, such a strong album from start to finish by OM&M. Also, I love to see Johnny Booth so high.. that is a powerhouse of an album. I will say my favorite non-metal album this year has been Blink 182's.
Dying wishes album for me is my AOTY. Literally been on repeat since it dropped. Thy arts album would have been #1 but with what happened to CJ, it dropped it way off my list.

Very respectable list, Heavener is also my #1 pick, Invent have been my 3rd favorite band for the past few years now and it's been so awesome to see how much they've improved in that time, Marcus' vocals especially have improved so much in such a short time too, all the recognition they're getting now is so well deserved.

Dying Wish is insane! Underrated
I am so happy Resolve was so dang high. They are by far my favorite band and are just crazy unique to themselves. Human isn't quite as perfect as BTMATM but that was literally the best first album I've ever heard. Human follows close behind it

When Color Decay by TDWP released last year, it kinda passed under my radar.
However, when the deluxe version with a couple new songs released in spring, i checked it out and found it to be probably in my top 3 favorite albums of all time.
TDWP dominated my playtimes for most of this year and while it's not fair to technically include it in AOTY 2023 since the original released in 2022, i don't care because it's new to me.

My AOTY was Insolent Noise by Fiends. Theyre simply doing stuff that unconventional to what a lot of bands have decided on and it works. Added on the synths for this album, it pushed them leagues ahead of their freshman release Me Time.

Another cool thing about Half Me’s Soma is that it might be a reference to the satirical sci fi novel “Brave New World”. Soma in that novel is a wonder drug that induces a state of constant happiness. Its use is a reminder of how easily manipulated the masses are in this society, which the author connects to the real world.
Invent were unreachable this year, I agree 100%. So so so glad to find Resolve so high in your list, they were so BRAVE with their sound...they are so eclectic they deserve praise!

Gideon was easily my #1 for the year. I love everything about that album and it never stops being fun. I won’t lie, Heavener took a while to grow on me, but I ended up really loving that album too, so I respect the placement of those two on this list.

Hell yeah dude! You and I have the same top 5! For me, Heavener was just untouchable. There isn't a single bad song on the album at all. It's so damn good. It gives me goosebumps every time.
Also, I've said this a lot but I just can't get over how weird of a choice it was for Currents to not have any drum fills on the entire album on TDWS

Heavener is my favorite this year, but it felt more like a sidegrade rather than an upgrade from greyview. I think marcus coming into his own is the strongest part of the album.
Yeah after watching your explanation, you are right. It is a metalcore holy Grail. People can hate all they want but at the end of the day it's just the best. It feels leagues above everything else this year and I have so many albums I absolutely love this year. They all get a special place in my heart but Heavener just cannot be toppled.

I am shocked Currents was on your list. I agreed with your initial take, now with your change of mind and it being on HXC Awards Top 5, I should probably revist it again.

Im kinda surprised new Bury Tomorrow album doesnt get much credit, its just great melodic metalcore modernized in a perfect way, probably in my top 3 this year after TMBTE and Heavener, maybe people avoid it cause of vocalist change, but for some reason i got into them even more after that, eventho previous vocalist was awesome too
I don’t think anyone should be arguing against your top 5. It is the objective, universal top 5 albums of the year, or at least it should be. The Currents album is the only album that I think is underrated here, but only because I love every song off that album. I also understand tho that it did not bring as much of a great album experience, so fair play.

Glad to see you give the love to Tether, such a strong album from start to finish by OM&M. Also, I love to see Johnny Booth so high.. that is a powerhouse of an album. I will say my favorite non-metal album this year has been Blink 182's.
Dying wishes album for me is my AOTY. Literally been on repeat since it dropped. Thy arts album would have been #1 but with what happened to CJ, it dropped it way off my list.
I reckon my top 3 albums of the year are Periphery V, Luminaria by Aviations, then ASHEN by HLB, in that order.
