Fun fact, their first few albums have a lot of black metal elements. Those elements were probably what you didn't like about General of the Dark Army because it leans hard into black metal, such as the dissonant tremolo picking on the guitars, and the high-pitched unclean shrieks from Grant. If you like their poppy side I think you'll like Abyss and Phantoma the best. They've been slowly becoming more synthpoppy as time goes on.
