The people defending the price are just killing me. I could sell a glass of water from my outdoor hose to these people for $15 and they would call it luxury because it cost a lot of money. It's ridiculous. And the icing on the cake is that none of these influencers paid the $42 for the duos. It's all PR packages lmao. How can you justify the ridiculous price when you didn't spend it? Of course they think its worth it, they got it for free! Get tf outta here lmao
Didn't we just have the same conversation online about luxury bags,.which now we're learning..they're not THAT luxury. 🙄😬 Too many snake oil salesmen out here.
Not necessarily defending the pricing ot Patrick but there is nothing Wet n Wild has that looks similar to the Patrick eyeshadows. Although lesser known brands make shadows with the same level or more sparkle and reflect for quite less Kara beauty prismatic cream shadows look WET!! and have zero fall out for $6 Moira cosmetics makes 3 different eyeshadow formulas with high reflect Not mentioning clionadh cosmetics, electrum cosmetics, oden's eye and more
@@cupkakke The one guy in the video was correct when he said that people are paying for the experience. It's not too difficult to find smaller or indie brands with amazing color and sparkle pay off for half the price or less, but these influencers won't give a damn about that because it doesn't look "luxury"
THAT PART like baby these prices are upwards of well established brands like chanel, pat mcgrath, dior, nars...and i'm not seeing actual performance that even comes close to the beautiful shimmers my kaleidos have! indie brands are eating these wannabes uppp
I'm starting to notice brands are marketing for INFLUENCERS, they aren't promoting products to regular people anymore. It's all makeup for videos and studio lights.
Well many people will buy stuff because an influencer says positive things about it. So pay an influencer to say good stuff (whether the product is actually good or not) and their fans eat it up and go out and buy it. A lot of influencers though give glowing reviews hoping that the brands will then buy the reviews to turn them into ads. As well as trying to get brand deals.
@@ldsbalancedlifestyle1951 I'm just getting into the whole makeup influencer sphere as I've gotten more into makeup recently and I'm learning pretty quickly who I can trust to give honest reviews and who is in it for the paycheck.
@@aprilswan909I’m not so sure about this anymore.i think maybe 10 years ago when reviews were authentic, yah. Thats the whole reason people gravitated towards the beauty community to begin with. Now everything is an ad, and very obviously so. I take any makeup review from these big influencers with a grain of salt. It’s obvious they’re just being paid.
@stormyskyz4251 this is me. concealer and powder at sephora the rest at the pharmacy. And even then I get a gc for those sephora expenses every year for my birthday.
Actually, Patrick Ta could be sued for false advertising for using the "100% pearl" phrase. Because there is no way the eyeshadow could be "100% pearl" with ANY definition of the word "pearl"
It’s likely referring to 100% pearl used, as in its 100% authentic pearl used as an ingredient, not that the entire eyeshadow is made from pearl. The same thing is done with aloe. You will see a lot of aloe gels at Walmart that say “100% aloe vera” when it’s really not JUST 100% aloe Vera, it’s 100% aloe Vera PLUS other ingredients. It’s a scammy way of business and marketing 😢
@@kristenadorno not really scammy, just a misunderstanding...besides, do you really think they could sell ACTUAL 100% aloe vera gel in stores? it literally goes bad in like a day. ain't no way. besides without all those other ingredients, or "chemicals" if you will - the aloe vera is *barely* doing anything to your skin. if you want real natural aloe vera, getting it from stores is not the best idea...there are people who grow the plants themselves and sell them or the natural gels. you can also always grow one yourself and extract the gel...just make sure to put it in water and let it sit there for at least an hour, a day is even better.(it'll remove the Aloe latex from the aloe vera, bc it is not safe to use on skin)
‘High end’ make up companies often seek a cheap way to produce, like kylie cosmetics, but the mark up is crazy high for profit that’s why a lot of drugstore cosmetics are similar or sometimes better because they use the same factories/formulas but keep the prices reasonable…there’s literally no need for high end name branded make up anymore.
This is why media literacy (social media literacy, in this case) is SO important! A lot of people seem to know that Reality TV is scripted and Wrestling is fake, but that same scrutiny is missing when it comes to social media and influencers peddling stuff
Accepting high prices will eventually hike up all makeup because other brands will see other makeup brands are raising their prices and people are paying it.
tbh i dont think its a mold... mold is a fungi, it needs something biodegradible to eat and grow on, and there is nothing like this in thw eyeshadows as far as i understand. i think its just lamination of different ingridients of the eyeshadow (which is still pretty bad, it means that formula is not stable enough or it wasnt properly made)
If they were an actual luxury company they’d have done a recall on the defective products, luxury is supposed to mean premium, safe and reliable. And the handling of the mold issue is absolutely unforgivable.
It really is because it feels like when people hear Made in India and Made in China they think it’s low quality, yet companies like Flower Knows and Kaleidos, and even Odens eye comes from China. On top of that the best quality clothing and fabrics come from India. But people fall for the Made in Italy because it’s European
i dont understand the same iNflUenCeRS coulndt use the mac Squirt Plumping Gloss Stick, where you would pump 1-2 times for the product and they would do it 7 times and then complain about the product not working.
i make makeup- mold grows in pans that aren’t sanitized properly before pressing a shadow. its legitimately a flagrant disregard for sanitation and safety. literally the first thing you do when you make makeup is make sure that everything is sanitized immediately before, during, and after working
No offense but if you are telling me you’ve spent 42 dollars on make up with 2 tiny eyeshadow’s, all I’m thinking is that you are a total irresponsible dumbass that doesn’t know how to spent their money wisely.
I can't agree with that. I buy luxury items cause I can afford them and it makes me happy. I do not flex anywhere, I don't even post on social media and avoid huge logos. It's just a preference :)
Actually calling people poor because they don't want literal mold or a shittier product is wild for $42-70 lol. Talk about brainwashed while trying to feel special with their expensive crap products. When you spend more money on something, you expect something to be LEAGUES better than the $24 palette that is literally the exact same thing. Not WORSE. They are totally going to be embarrassed when they grow up and have to be money conscientious instead of wasting money on dumb things, like, have some standards.
I recently got made fun of for using "cheap" products. Didn't come from my makeup looking bad, rather me taking out a few products to fix-up. It was lovely to find out that they're in credit card debt due to constant overspending on luxury and over-priced goods.
Girl I’m so sorry that’s so mean of her. So many people attribute ‘good makeup’ to money and not skill and not only that but belittle others that can’t afford stuff they can. Jokes on her though but makeup is never worth getting into debt.
Omg how rude of them! That’s so idiotic because if you really think about it makeup is just over glorified paint in super tiny containers. So when they laugh at you because you don’t feel like dropping hundreds of dollars on tiny tiny paint containers, then I think that makes them look pretty stupid. (I love to sometimes splurge on more expensive stuff but only sometimes and only when I feel like I can afford it and it’s worth it. The quality of drugstore products is amazing and 15 years ago, no one even would’ve batted an eye at your supposed „cheap“ makeup.)
This is a guilt mechanism for overspenders - and I should know; I am one! But i would Never judge or shame someone for buying something that suits their own budget. That is a statement about her, not you.
Made in Italy is the biggest gimmick. It used to be a sign of quality but now Italy has tons of cheap factories just like other countries. There are sweatshops full of foreign workers being underpaid making crap just so the manufacturers can claim made in Italy.
It really is because it feels like when people hear Made in India and Made in China they think it’s low quality, yet companies like Flower Knows and Kaleidos, and even Odens eye comes from China. On top of that the best quality clothing and fabrics come from India. But people fall for the Made in Italy because it’s European, while India and other Asian countries are under appreciated. Many Free People and Anthropologie clothing are designed and made in India too

I gasped when Patrick Ta said "under downward lighting from your home" -- GIRL, I am not putting on $42 eye shadow to stay home and for my walls to admire me
I thought the same!! Or with a ring light.. I, an average consumer barely on social media, don’t have a ring light, or the need to stare at myself while using one inside the house after putting on $42 eyeshadow 😒

Imagine... A global economic crisis. And people are using "broke loser" as an insult toward people who are savvy with their money in a time you really have to be.
The only exception I have is Cliondah cosmetics. They are pricey (some are under $10) but they are soo good. I’ve tried others from Oden, Adept, and shine but their formulas are inconsistent for the same price. Thats my only exception. To me quality and truly supporting an indie brand is worth the price.
Smart person lol. Makeup prices are out of this world these days. Everyone is just paying for the brand name. You can pretty much get the same quality products drugstore.
A lot of influencers justifying the price are likely getting these in PR packages or sent to them for $FREE. They’re not paying for it, or writing it off as a business expense. I haven’t seen them in person, but they look mediocre in many of these videos. I love your stance on this!
Omg I have a deadly allergy to mold and I have the major dimensions eyeshadow and I have been experiencing unexplainable anaphylaxis and my eyes swelling constantly and this within a few months of getting this palette. Now I need to examine mine!!! Update I just checked and there is mold!!! I have been rushed to the ER 3x’s and 5 epi-pens used!! You just saved me
Low key I would hold onto that palette and also ER paperwork. Incase of a class action. There’s too many cases and lack of accountability that’s it only a matter of time.
Holy crap, you should seriously talk to a Lawyer, I’m not an advocate for law fare, but it is seriously irresponsible for a brand to have a well known mold issue, and not inform your customer base, is disgusting.
The only way to prevent these companies from ripping women off is to boycott/not buy. It's the same with the skin care business. If you read the labels, you can see there isn't much difference between $500 creams and $30 creams. Some makeup items come from the same factory.
I am not for fancy skin care at all but to be honest some of the pricey products do have better quality of their ingredients. Different formulas to make sure products are more effective.
@@into_folklore1if consumers stopped buying such expensive makeup it would force companies to drop their prices. We aren’t talking about medicine or food. Makeup isn’t necessary and frankly there are options that are cheaper.
@@grrrlgrrrmsalmost everyone has mentioned the space cowboy. Even in Patrick Ta’s video that was the first example that he used to justify the price.
I worked in cosmetic formulation. Here’s why they’re growing mold. Phenoxyethanol is not super effective against mold or yeast, mainly against bacteria. Their “anti-mold” agent is potassium sorbate. It’s used in a lot of food, but it’s only effective when it’s in contact with water, or can dissociate into sorbic acid. There is no water listed as an ingredient, so the anti-mold agent is less likely to be effective in its “salt” form. More effective anti-mold agents in liquid form are caprylyl glycol and ethylhexylglycerin, which they have included in their more recent release, the eyeshadow duos. Update: Patrick Ta released that this is due to “wax blooming” and not mold. Basically the same as old chocolate turning white. There is no wax in their product, but shea butter may be able to “bloom” as well. I’ll let you decide.
Colour Pop's Super Shock shadows/ highlighters are like $7 each, "slurry" formula, have been out for like 10 years now, very shimmery and like 75 different colors.
Colour Pop I'm begging you to come out with $12 eyeshadow duo's with the Supershock formula. I have Alamar & Ace Beaute pallettes that are 9 shades & way more impressive.
I love my Colourpop Super Shock Shadows. But, they are more of a silicone/powder/gel formula than an actual slurry which is baked in a mesh. That's why they shrink and some were able to rehydrate them. I have YSL and Tom Ford wet/dry eyeshadows. And those are the actual slurry eyeshadows. Another example is the Amrezy highlighter and Jeffree Star Supreme Frost highlighters. Those are slurrys too. I haven't tried and not planning to buy Patrick Ta's eyeshadow because of the mold issue. But so far, my Tom Ford wet and dry formula is not comparable to cheaper alternatives. It's so thin, yet pigmeted and never loses the shine no matter how much I buff it (which can happen with pressed eyeshadows). Not all Tom Ford quads are made the same though. Their regular eyeshadow formulas are crap. I just like their slurries.
Why don't we start NOT BUYING this entire brand? Cuz $70 for a palette and $60 for foundation is ridiculous too... People are having a hard time affording FOOD!! Our dollars drive these brands... Let's start making OUR COLLECTIVE POINT!
I think we should 100% stand together to not purchase ridiculously overpriced items, however I’m not going to not buy what I want because people struggle to afford food. It’s always weird to me when people do the whole “wow you’re buying luxury items when I can’t even afford groceries?!” Like, that’s not my problem. Be mad at the government. If I wanna buy luxury, I’m gonna buy whatever I want and i don’t care what you can and can’t afford. I do agree entirely that if we stop buying certain things, brands will stop overcharging, though.
Thanks a million for this video! I saved a Sephora gift card for Patrick Ta shadows, and you've saved me the time and trouble. Much appreciated. I hope he figures it out before he totally loses everyone's trust. This shouldn't be happening.
I work at a makeup store and it's not just patrick ta, all of these beauty brands have been raising their prices by multiple dollars in one go. it's crazy how a single product can jump 3 to 5 dollars immediately and they blame it on inflation when we all know the markup on beauty products is insane
I bought a bottle of the Haus Labs foundation at the end of July and it was $45. I just bought another bottle recently at the Sephora sale and it is now $49. Now I don't use much so I think it will last a good bit and only bought more due to the sale. But that's $4 in like 3 months. I think after I go through what I have I will be searching for another foundation.
Yup. And I think because it is so bad, people are desensitized to it. Like the phlur mists went from $20 to $24. And people are like that’s not that bad. That’s a 20% increase!!!
It's worse in Canada with the currency exchange, I've seen products go up $8 to $10 like moisturizers and hair masks. I'm not paying that anymore. I take advantage of bundle sets but there hasn't been many good ones with real value for your buck.
I was just discussing with a good friend who owns her own indie makeup brand. Matte eyeshadows cost cents. Most shimmer eyeshadow pigments (Patrick Ta, I'm lookin at you!) take less than $10 to make, same as duochromes and multichromes. He acts as if those "pearls" came from the depths of the ocean, where he had to go on a heroic quest to find the magical trident to defeat the sea monster which guarded said "pearls". It's such nonsense!! He's making at least 200% profit on those duos.
Oh and don't forget the mirror. He really wanted everyone to have a mirror. I'm sorry but has anyone really every used one of the mirrors that are built into their makeup? Personally those mirrors are always too small to be useful and the quality is terrible. I have never used one of those mirrors for anything.
16:16 if i was able to use my moms makeup for YEARS after she gave it to me into my teen years and it didn’t go moldy, why is his BRAND NEW NEVER BEEN USED PALETTES GOIN MOLDY ?!
Being a makeup girly doesn’t mean just buying the most expensive new thing at Sephora. It means actually understanding formulas and knowing about good products regardless the price or brand name.
For a family of 2, our groceries cost about $300 a month. This is without red meat, fresh meat, alcohol, and few fresh groceries (like fresh fruit and veggies, instead we get bulk frozen veggies). It’s always interesting to see how grocery prices differ.
it’s honestly impressive that how consistently affordable they’ve been. i know with inflation, the cost of literally everything has risen and will continue to rise but i still think they’re still good about staying in the affordable range
this!! i’ve been buying their makeup since i was 13 and im so happy their products have remained so low. and it’s been 7 years of me buying their products :) i love their consistency too! always good quality products for a good, reasonable, and reliable price

To be fair, you guys have awesome makeup products, especially the lipstick formulas. I know you have specific brands, but even my great grandma used them and she was a very poor country latin woman.
Calling it a pearl finish is just a relabel of shimmer/ glitter to make you think it’s something new. Pure pearl or 100% pearl would be crushed, powered freshwater or saltwater pearls.
I know I was so confused when he said 100% pearl. Real pearl powders don’t shine like that at all. It’s unbelievably funny when I found out he’s referring to the shimmer/glitter. It feels like my three year old kid trying to find the right word to describe something but failed 😂
Yes, I didn't understand what he meant by that. Eye shadow isn't going to be 100% crushed pearls. Maybe that's jargon in the beauty industry that I don't know. Or, maybe he was being deceptive.
I have a somewhat short attention span, and I'll have you know, that I watched THIS ENTIRE VIDEO from beginning to end. I have never been this invested in a UA-cam video before. you are very well spoken.
I was watching her eyes the whole time too. Like that looks badass and I can guarantee it's no PT. Lol. I was so glad she mentioned what brands work just as good or better. Her eye shadow is beautiful ❤️
She always slays her eyes and keep about the same look every time with her eyes, lips, face. She should share what she uses! It’s always so flattering and turns out so well on camera! ❤
I can't take my eyes off of her blush. It is so very difficult for a porcelain-skinned girl to get a translucent wash of a strong, bright color. Too little blush can turn into clownish very quickly. The "just right" sweet spot is very narrow. She nails it every time. 🤌
It’s simple: MOE. Money over everything. From Mr. Ta to Ms. Tillbury, to the “influencers,” it’s all about the dollar, dollar, dollar! The parasocial weirdness of so many people defending these BRANDS, is unsettling. Influencers DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU!
I'm so happy seeing your rage. Everyone else talking about this are being too nice whilst admitting there are cheaper, indie alternatives. Plus the comments REEK of classism, like sorry for not wanting to throw my money to an unreliable creator when there are WAY better, cheaper ones with the same formula and even better shimmer. I'm so glad you called them out and exposed the accounts for who they are
Yes yes! i was about to comment a recommendation of wet n wild highlighter palettes. They really are fantastic. I would also really highly recommend the colourpop hedwig highlighter from the harry potter collection.
The defending of a brand that doesn't give a shit about its consumers is giving boot licker and its all giving Hunger Games capitol vibes ngl. I loved this video so much a lot of effort has gone into it
This is why I transitioned slowly from high end to drugstore. And honestly I’ve been overpaying for years for similar quality. You just gotta find the happy medium. I no longer enjoy buying makeup like before.
So Patrick Ta puts out a video defending his ridiculous pricing but doesn't bother to address his customers suffering bodily harm from his products becoming moldy? That tells me all I need to know about his brand and where his priorities are.
Its so crazy to think that everyone CAME for Jac Hill’s lipsticks and so far Patrick Ta hasn’t been shut down after all of these repeat offenses. The icing on the cake for me has been the responses of his team replying to mold and his explanation of why the eyeshadows are so expensive and why the highlighters are goopy, etc. He’s not the first person who has made eyeshadows in this formula. The more he “addresses” it the more I don’t like the brand anymore.
The fact that it's only 1.6grams, it means that it's so little of product, literally.. you can get drugs more affordable then 42$😂😂😂 with that gram amount 😂😂😂
@@ratboygirlnot everything is misogyny.. jacklyn hill had many many offenses prior to this. I think Patrick Ta is known to be a celebrity makeup artist so he’s more respected in the eyes of people so they give him a pass when Jaclyn has always be shady
I thought maybe it was just the newer palettes. I paused this video to check my own palette. THE SHIMMERS HAVE MOLD! I am beyond shook! I’ve never even used it, I just swatched it when I bought it! I have no words! I too own old ass eyeshadows that don’t have mold in them so I’m just flabbergasted! Heck even my old Morphe shadows don’t have mold!!!
I have well used shadows from the 80s, or possibly earlier, that are perfectly serviceable. All of my cosmetics from the 90s are fine unless they are things like mascara (you NEED to replace that very regularly and, if possible, refrigerate). The reason is because the formulas were more mineral based, didn't include 'bacteria/fungus food' in the form of edible oils and moisture and had stabilisers designed to stop them spoiling. Those stabilisers were safe then and are safe now but a lot of rumours will claim otherwise with zero scientific evidence. So called 'clean' products made nowadays don't contain the things designed to keep them safe for longer, as a result they begin to perform badly over time or, worse, become unsafe by acting like a specimen plate for germs. 🖤
I don’t understand why people are ready to go to battle for makeup brands who don’t care about them and doing it for free at that. What are they hoping for? Free PR? It’s embarrassing.
I can’t remember how your videos came up in my algorithm. I’m a 31 year old man 😅 but I like to watch your outrage videos it feels like a window into another universe and it’s a very nice break from the economic/political commentary I usually watch. Your content is always very well organized, researched and detailed.
I feel like the only people defending him are those that got it (and everything else for that matter) in PR… no real consumer would be defending such a lack of quality control in a overpriced luxury product.
I saw a vid of someone unboxing theirs and one of the shadows fell out immediately. Lol. That is UNACCEPTABLE for this pricetag, that is Colourpop behavior.
i bought a gorgeous eyeshadow while in japan that looks exactly like the ones patrick was advertising. one eyeshadow was 600 yen… aka under FOUR DOLLARS
I’m saying!! Like the whole modern renaissance debacle where everyone was shitting on Anastasia bc it had a lot of fallout and now we have people being like “no that’s actually okay that it detaches from the pan! It’s supposed to do that!! Like honestly if you can’t deal with that, it’s just as skill issue 🙄 the girls that get it get it” like ????? why are you dickriding so hard for this random company that sells moldy makeup 😭😭😭
I have to add my 2 cents here. I purchased the Patrick Ta Major Dimensions II palette and within six months of purchase and only one use, there was a noticeable amount of mold in one of the shimmer shadows (which I hadn't even used). I reached out to the company and was asked to provide photos and a purchase receipt, both of which I submitted to them. Their response was, "sorry, there is nothing we can do," and to be blunt, they weren't very nice about it either. Needless to say, I will never purchase a product from this company again, regardless of how stunning or "revolutionary." The truth is, many of these companies are coming across as more of a cash grab, than an offering of unique, quality products with the customer experience at the forefront. Influencer culture has, undoubtedly, encouraged this type of behavior from brands making it even more difficult for the average consumer to distinguish between what's worth the $$ and what is a complete waste. As consumers, we have the ability to vote with our $$ and choose to support brands that stand behind their products and consider the customer experience as valuable as their bottom line.
In my opinion good customer service can undo a lot of sins. And obviously that’s not at the forefront of what’s important to this brand. I’m sorry you had a bad experience- truly. If I paid that much for something, I’d expect high quality customer relations. I mean.. where is all that money going? It should be going towards paying people (and paying them well) who help you deal with the public in the most respectful way possible, ESPECIALLY if you’re asking the public to trust you with this amount of money for your product.
Really good to know, thank you for letting people know. I'm not great with eyeshadow so I didn't think it would be a worthwhile purchase anyway but I'm definitely not going to buy it now. I do have one of the blushes somewhere, definitely gonna dig it out and see if it's mouldy. So yuck!
Influencers who get this stuff for free are so out of touch trying to justify faulty products when they aren’t in the shoes of the consumer having to spend their hard earned money for products that are not reflecting the price point. If you’re charging luxury everything down to the box it ships in should be up to par with that luxury price
It's funny how those influencers who receive these products for free think it's preposterous to complain about the price. I just found you and you're already my new favorite
Slightly unrelated: I also used to really like the lipstick lesbians but after following them for a few months I realized she’s just an excellent sales person. Not saying it’s all undisclosed ads or anything but all she does is glaze brands from a very informed perspective vs. actually being a solid reviewer of product. Still interesting to listen to but like in the way I used to enjoy infomercials as a kid because I love to watch a talented sales person lock tf in
sephora brand used to have these glitter shadows that were absolutely beautiful and looked way more glassy and wet than any patrick swatch i’ve seen and i think i paid $8 each for them, and with chinese glitters and shimmers existing it’s WILD patrick is claiming there’s no formula like it 🤣 it just feels like coping at this point
I’m 65 years old…I know…frikin ancient. I worked the high-end makeup counter when I was in my early twenties. We pushed and sold the ‘high-end’ brands all the while we wore CoverGirl makeup because it didn’t break our faces out. Nothings really changed…
In this day in age when people are struggling to put food on the table and buy groceries 42 dollars for 2 freakin eyeshadows is so greedy and a slap in the face to customers
I know veeery little about influencers including beauty/makeup ones. I rarely change my makeup up because if I get something that turns out to work poorly for me I won't be able to get something else for a while (especially right now when everything on earth has gotten so expensive) so I usually stick to the few products i know will work good. But putting ridiculous prices in an economic crisis, completely ignoring everyone questioning it, pretending that the quality issues aren't extremely serious, cheap out on the container (I'm sure there's a way to make it not fall out while still adding ventilation) and calling the "back of the hand" the "back of the palm" ? Nah... I'll stick to my decently priced products that won't be getting moldy or fall out and turn to floor dust within a couple of months. I can't for the life of me understand how he thinks this reasonable. At all.
I mean...yeah you have a point, however businesses aren't expected to lower their prices just because the country is in a bad financial state. Makeup is a luxury, especially high end makeup. Whether we agree high end makeup actually applies like a luxury product or is worth the money is up for debate. However, people are obviously able to buy it otherwise it wouldn't be offered.
I also love the Lipstick Lesbians because they are honest and provide alot of information about makeup and makeup manufacturing. BUT, this time, their take on these eyeshadows does surprise me a little... she says "it's just this one that fell out, the rest is fine" but like... usually people only buy one considering the price, so imagine your one incredibely expensive eyeshadow falling out and shattering on the floor... and you paid $42 for it...?
This "it's just this one" got me to buy a set of mini Patt McGrath lipsticks and later Elson and both times the lipsticky covers fell, opened inside my purse and ruined the lipstick. I won't buy anything from her.
@@Willowy13 I excitedly swatched my first ever PMG lipstick as soon as it arrived and then waited for a special occasion to use it, which was a couple of months after. That lipstick grew mold from that one swipe (on clean hands too!!) I cut off a huge chunk just to be able to save the rest, but weeks later it regrew mold even though I used a clean spatula. I realized then that the amount of lipstick (the full sized one, not even the mini) was so little, that there was nothing left to save this time! So not worth it. 😭😭😭 I have MAC lipsticks that I used and abused and they have never grown moldy on me.
Also, I find it so funny that all the beauty influencers who are saying it's worth the price, got it for free in PR! Of course they are gonna say that. They wanna keep getting his makeup for free (cuz it's over priced) but they did sell out when they were released on sephora (during the vib sale of course)
Patrick Ta is NOT a luxury brand. He is just a very greedy man. Luxury houses charge a premium because they have 40, 50+ years to back up their quality & standing in the fashion world, and have literally made history with some of their innovations. I cannot fathom how anyone could think it is reasonable for a one man nobody to charge prices at or above that of Chanel, Dior, Givenchy, Hermes, etc. I’ve found Makeup by Mario products to be much more consistent and reliable (which part of the reason we are paying higher than drugstore is for quality reliability), and although his prices are still high, he has multiple in the more mid range, and I’ve never had the feeling that Mario is trying to impersonate as a luxury brand, unlike Patrick Ta-even though Mario has long history and is famous for being a well known innovative makeup artist that changed the course of beauty. There are so many better products out there for significantly cheaper and more reasonable prices. I only mentioned Mario because they have similarities in both being male makeup artists. I am sooooo thankful that you made this video and finally spoke reality into the situation. ❤ It felt like I was alone and the only one thinking clearly. You are completely correct in saying that we the people have to refuse these atrocious gauging prices. We have all the power, and we shouldn’t be promoting a very greedy man who doesn’t give a care about quality, safety, or his customers (if he did he wouldn’t be charging these outrageous prices that is soooo out of touch with humanity).
Painfully delusional. These brats don't want to admit that they made a dumb purchase and wasted their money and want to feel special for having the money to literally waste and feel justified about it.
So, it's unfortunately true, that right now in 2024, integrity _is_ dead. Especially when it comes to corporate greedy & ye old might fuggin' dollar. 😢
girl i literally love you. you have a new subscriber from this video. i felt so heard in this video and i feel like you are the only beauty influencer who actually has sense. great video keep up the great work.
So… Let’s have a conversation about how these “luxury” brands have always been elitist. It’s no accident that they make their products unreachable to working class people… it’s not about inflation, quality materials or being “out of touch” either… They like for their brands to be exclusive because then people aspire to join the “club”… luxury is about reputation not about high quality products. Not that the two are mutually exclusive. The ones with good quality products are still elitist.
That's the whole point and literal meaning of luxury, lol. But Patrick Ta is not a luxury brand nor has a reputation or recognition of an actual luxury brands.
The thing with mac is… its been an established brand for make up girlies and make up artists for many years. The Industry has evolved and there are soo many good options that are way cheaper. But even IF you are buying a mac eyeshadow you know that they blend well, have good pigment and last a long time. Plus they wont mold.
I'll be honest, as an MUA, I think Mac has great base products and pretty good lipsticks, but I /hate/ their eyeshadows. I think they're super unpigmented for that price 😭 They might have changed the formula since the last time I tried them but 2010s Mac eyeshadows at least are not it for me.
I use Mac eyeshadow all of the time. It blends so well and never creases. Also lasts forever and I’ve never seen mold or had one pop out. I also love the fact that they sell single colors. It’s so hard to find.
New fear unlocked. 🤯 I'm almost 50 and not only have I never had an eye shadow get moldy in the pan before, but I didn't even know it was a thing. Yes, makeup has a shelf life, but I've never actually seen it go bad before...especially brand new. Now I'll be eagle eyeing all of my makeup prior to application. 😮
Makeup prices are insane. Charlotte Tilbury upped their lipstick price from 45$ to 52.50$ in one go. I haven't purchased from their brand in over a year. And yeah, Patrick Ta eyeshadows have had a mold problem for years. Both my palettes from his brand contain mold in the sparkly shades. Product reviews on Sephora have been mentioning this for years now but it never seems to affect him/his brand's reputation oddly.
All I know is her concealer is amazing. The only thing I have ever purchased and I bought it a couple months ago. It was worth it. The other makeup prices are ridiculous
'if you cant afford it then just move on. 90% of makeup is overpriced these days anyway' is an insane statement. People turning a blind eye and just letting companies do what they want is literally the reason why everything is so overpriced now!!!! and these companies keep getting away with it BC OF YOU. literally why should we ignore or justify their greed?? I love Kiki for calling them out for exactly what it is
"letting companies do what they want" it's called capitalism darling. Supply and demand, what are you gonna do about it? 🤷🏻♀️ If no one buys it, he'll stop selling it
i've always hated this "it is what it is, deal with it" mentality that a lot of people use to defend problems. "it's high quality, so of course it's insanely expensive" (this situation). "fans stalk famous people all the time, so you should've expected this" (chappell roan situation). "men will be creeps, so you should've seen it coming and wear something with more coverage" (victim blaming sexual harassment victims because of what they wore). okay, and we're not gonna do anything about it? just sit here and suck it up? fuck, what's it like to be a doormat?
I just seriously appreciate that you keep it real and have the balls to say what MANY other people are thinking AND experiencing. You’ve done that for YEARS. LOVE 💗
I am so glad you are discussing this, because so many creators have been making us feel bad for wanting products that are worth the money we pay. What happened to “the client is always right”? Its like we have to take whatever they throw at us…. it makes me so upset!
None makes you feel bad . They get sent stuff all the time and can write purchases off on their taxes . It is called being an adult - some people will be able To afford the really expensive option , others will not . Nothing g to feel bad over - just life . Don’t compare what you vs other people and you will feel Much happier in life
@@umassigkap yes, i agree with everything you said. You and me both understand that we are unique and do not have to live the life of others. My issue is more about the “influencer culture” deciding what is good and what is worth to a point where there is no room for discussion or other opinions, this is what makes me upset. We deserve quality, durability and safety in everything we purchase, whatever the price.
There is room For discussion and I watch many influencers and none of them Tell me how to think - they give their honest thoughts - some I agree with and some I don’t at the end of the day I still need to go to the store and decide wether or not the product is something for me
Love how your glitter eyeshadow looks better than all of the creators swatching Patrick Ta’s eyeshadow duos AND it probably cost you a fraction of the price.
I did some more digging about this brand, specifically I visited the website. Right away I noticed how cheap the packaging looked and the names of the eyeshadows were fs marketed to influencers. Patrick Ta is even a mua for celebrities so he KNOWS what he's doing is wrong. And don't even get me STARTED on the fake reviews. I saw 3 of the same reviews from "different websites". It's staring people in the face when they look at the reviews and they still buy it. My skin is VERY sensitive, I can't even use most products made for babies because it has alcohol in it. SMH this is so sad and disturbing. I love your channel because it brings light to these atrocities.
In the words of my grandmother, "Saying doesn't make it so." Dior, Chanel, Armani have spent years building their reputation and demonstrating quality in all aspects of their products, They produce some duds and make mistakes but over all they give a luxury experience. They make the buyer feel special. Product falling out makes no one feel special.
Let’s break down all the cons Possible mold 2/4 are not as glittery Falls out of pan Needs a sticky base to avoid fall out Needs a flash studio to get the shine Ignoring the mold, all of this adds up when you use them daily. Little annoyances makes a consumer not want to use a product even if they have it. 42 dollars is a lot of money for a product you can’t just use straight out of the pan with ease.
Can we talk about the overly supportive bot comments.... nowadays whenever a celebrity, product, even tv show is inundated with positive or even negative comments... there is a good chance it's bots. It's so hard to find even influencers that TRUTHFULLY review things who aren't getting paid to say good things. 🙄Thank YOU for being reliable and truthful. ❤😊
I HATE this culture of customers acting as "fans"/"cult members". I dont wear a lot of makeup but I play the sims(4) and the way this game is worth MORE than $1,000 with ZERO physical copy and MILLIONS of bugs is WILD! Cant wait for competition to shake things up a little. 😡😡😡
oh my god people will defend a multimillion dollar company with their life, like hello? pookie, they don’t care about you, they don’t care about us. especially when the companies are notorious for greedy behavior. it’s so weird and tbh i think it’s getting worse with social media and the whole thing with brand accounts acting like your friend
Yeah exactly.. I was like woah patrick starr has lost a tonne of weight and started acting like a man..good for him😂 Then I realised they're 2 different people.
Awesome coverage of this issue seriously well done! I am one of the suckers who longed and longed for the UD Space Cowboy shadows and had to wait months for it to restock at my Sephora. Then because I am in Canada the single shadow was a whopping $32+tax so close to $38!!! And to say I was underwhelmed is an understatement, the shadow was dry and chalky right out of the package. Never again will I fall for all the 'viral' products.
"It's a luxury brand" baby just because the price is high doesn't automatically make it "luxury"!. The quality also has to match!
Too many snake oil salesmen out here.
Not necessarily defending the pricing ot Patrick but there is nothing Wet n Wild has that looks similar to the Patrick eyeshadows. Although lesser known brands make shadows with the same level or more sparkle and reflect for quite less
Kara beauty prismatic cream shadows look WET!! and have zero fall out for $6
Moira cosmetics makes 3 different eyeshadow formulas with high reflect
Not mentioning clionadh cosmetics, electrum cosmetics, oden's eye and more
@@cupkakke The one guy in the video was correct when he said that people are paying for the experience. THAT PART
like baby these prices are upwards of well established brands like chanel, pat mcgrath, dior, nars...and i'm not seeing actual performance that even comes close to the beautiful shimmers my kaleidos have! indie brands are eating these wannabes uppp
I'm starting to notice brands are marketing for INFLUENCERS, they aren't promoting products to regular people anymore. It's all makeup for videos and studio lights.
💯
Well many people will buy stuff because an influencer says positive things about it. So pay an influencer to say good stuff (whether the product is actually good or not) and their fans eat it up and go out and buy it. A lot of influencers though give glowing reviews hoping that the brands will then buy the reviews to turn them into ads. As well as trying to get brand deals.

Drugstore makeup is far too good at this point to buy high end makeup anymore. These brands need to get a grip.

Exactly. He does not know the meaning of 100%.
I think it just means that it includes pearl
I can't stand these women who "can't believe we are questioning the price" when they got it for FREE!!!
This is why media literacy (social media literacy, in this case) is SO important! A lot of people seem to know that Reality TV is scripted and Wrestling is fake, but that same scrutiny is missing when it comes to social media and influencers peddling stuff
FACTS.
Because if you don't buy through their affiliate links or support those companies they don't get free money and free products.
Accepting high prices will eventually hike up all makeup because other brands will see other makeup brands are raising their prices and people are paying it.

Absolutely FOREVER NO.
Fr not paying 70$ for a moldy palette
Fr, you can’t play about eye safety.
It should be banned once that happened imo
tbh i dont think its a mold... mold is a fungi, it needs something biodegradible to eat and grow on, and there is nothing like this in thw eyeshadows as far as i understand. i think its just lamination of different ingridients of the eyeshadow (which is still pretty bad, it means that formula is not stable enough or it wasnt properly made)
If they were an actual luxury company they’d have done a recall on the defective products, luxury is supposed to mean premium, safe and reliable. And the handling of the mold issue is absolutely unforgivable.
Not to mention quality of service, which it seems nobody is getting.
his low battery smoke detector chirping definitely doesn't scream luxury lol
As an Italian, hearing 'Made in Italy' used as a guarantee of quality cracks me up

It's an elitism thing. Some people are perfectly okay with being taken for a ride so long as they can flex how much money they spent.

Made in Italy is the biggest gimmick. It used to be a sign of quality but now Italy has tons of cheap factories just like other countries. There are sweatshops full of foreign workers being underpaid making crap just so the manufacturers can claim made in Italy.

The only way to prevent these companies from ripping women off is to boycott/not buy. It's the same with the skin care business. If you read the labels, you can see there isn't much difference between $500 creams and $30 creams. Some makeup items come from the same factory.
That’s exactly what brought me to cancel my order. It’s all a rip off.

Thank you for the education, MVP

I have Alamar & Ace Beaute pallettes that are 9 shades & way more impressive.
Colour pop is my makeup go-to. Using the Stranger Things palette for the holidays!

I work at a makeup store and it's not just patrick ta, all of these beauty brands have been raising their prices by multiple dollars in one go. it's crazy how a single product can jump 3 to 5 dollars immediately and they blame it on inflation when we all know the markup on beauty products is insane
I swear they did cause I remember the Rare Beauty Palettes being cheaper then what I'm seeing on the Sephora site and such
I bought a bottle of the Haus Labs foundation at the end of July and it was $45. I just bought another bottle recently at the Sephora sale and it is now $49. Now I don't use much so I think it will last a good bit and only bought more due to the sale. But that's $4 in like 3 months. I think after I go through what I have I will be searching for another foundation.
Same for the hair products as well! I was gifted a $75, 150mL bottle of K18 last year but when I look at Sephora it's $75 for 50mL now??? Crazyy!
I never noticed how influencers praise products they hadn’t even swatched yet until now. Great video
He said the pigments are straight from Italy but so is Milani sooo...
This sea monster comment is educational AND fun to read 😂❤
he grew those pearls directly on his oysters dont be rude
Oh and don't forget the mirror. He really wanted everyone to have a mirror. I'm sorry but has anyone really every used one of the mirrors that are built into their makeup? Personally those mirrors are always too small to be useful and the quality is terrible. I have never used one of those mirrors for anything.
@@nadia562010literally. I used to buy the same style eyeshadow from drugstore in my teens.

Being a makeup girly doesn’t mean just buying the most expensive new thing at Sephora. It means actually understanding formulas and knowing about good products regardless the price or brand name.

$42 converted to my country's currency would amount to 2 months' worth of groceries for a family of three. HARD PASS!
Same in my country
It's our 1 month grocery because a member eats more than my mom and me. But I also own a cat lol
For a family of 2, our groceries cost about $300 a month. This is without red meat, fresh meat, alcohol, and few fresh groceries (like fresh fruit and veggies, instead we get bulk frozen veggies). It’s always interesting to see how grocery prices differ.
Omg, i live in India but even for 1 month of groceries for two people can cost 100-120$. We are f 😑

Let’s acknowledge that ELF has through the roof profits for a couple of quarters in a row because they are good quality and good prices.
And not horrific business practices
it’s honestly impressive that how consistently affordable they’ve been. i know with inflation, the cost of literally everything has risen and will continue to rise but i still think they’re still good about staying in the affordable range
this!! i’ve been buying their makeup since i was 13 and im so happy their products have remained so low. and it’s been 7 years of me buying their products :) i love their consistency too! always good quality products for a good, reasonable, and reliable price

@@umassigkap to be fair though their quality raised significantly when they started raising the pricing. @@miso8090what’s embarrassing is your comment hon, I just said that China makes the best phones on the market so… 🤫

China is a number one country for two decades now. Also, try Huawei if you have an opportunity.
If it was actually this, I’d understand the price lol

I was watching her eyes the whole time too. Like that looks badass and I can guarantee it's no PT. Lol. I was so glad she mentioned what brands work just as good or better. Her eye shadow is beautiful ❤️
She always slays her eyes and keep about the same look every time with her eyes, lips, face. She should share what she uses! It’s always so flattering and turns out so well on camera! ❤
I would love for her to do makeup tutorials or makeup reviews, I am always hoping she will one day ❤️
I can't take my eyes off of her blush. It is so very difficult for a porcelain-skinned girl to get a translucent wash of a strong, bright color. Too little blush can turn into clownish very quickly. The "just right" sweet spot is very narrow. She nails it every time. 🤌

The more he “addresses” it the more I don’t like the brand anymore.
it's giving misogyny methinks
I splurged on his eyeshadow palette, it molded within 16 months of owning it. I hardly got to use it before it molded!!
Yeah they way customer service gaslit me about the mold in his palettes was wild
I have literally dollar tree eyeshadow that is ancient....no mold there either lol So this is insane to me
I literally just did the same thing and my shimmers have mold! My palette is not even a year old ☹️
I have well used shadows from the 80s, or possibly earlier, that are perfectly serviceable. 🖤
I’ve had my palettes since they came out and I have zero mole in both…
I don’t understand why people are ready to go to battle for makeup brands who don’t care about them and doing it for free at that. What are they hoping for? Free PR? It’s embarrassing.

What’s the brand?!

on 2016 some people refused to buy eyeshadows if there was fallout in the pan, now people are buying shadows that just straight fall out of the pan 😭
Can't you send it to someone to test it and make a case against them?
Wow that's messed up
In my opinion good customer service can undo a lot of sins.

They are using "honest science" to sell products

I won’t lie but the shock shadows from colourpop have BEEN shimmering like this for a tiny fraction of the price
Also, I find it so funny that all the beauty influencers who are saying it's worth the price, got it for free in PR! Of course they are gonna say that. They wanna keep getting his makeup for free (cuz it's over priced) but they did sell out when they were released on sephora (during the vib sale of course)
The 1% who can buy it, did.
AND because they're influencers making a shit ton of money, of course $42 means nothing to them🙄
Patrick Ta is NOT a luxury brand.

Omg yes! Absolutely spot on!
That's the whole point and literal meaning of luxury, lol. But Patrick Ta is not a luxury brand nor has a reputation or recognition of an actual luxury brands.
The younger “influencers” getting it for free made it not fun for me anymore LOL
Excatly . Anyone who buys Mac knows it will be quality you never have to question unlike this sh*t

Did I read that right? $52 for a lipstick? :}

I agree. The prices are insane. A lot of people can't even afford drugstore makeup anymore, since many items have doubled in price over the past year.
i've always hated this "it is what it is, deal with it" mentality that a lot of people use to defend problems.
@@jangminoonayou are ignorant and tone deaf. shutup.
It is called being an adult - some people will be able
To afford the really expensive option , others will not . Nothing g to feel bad over - just life . Don’t compare what you vs other people and you will feel
Much happier in life
@@umassigkap yes, i agree with everything you said.
There is room
For discussion and I watch many influencers and none of them
Tell me how to think - they give their honest thoughts - some I agree with and some I don’t at the end of the day I still need to go to the store and decide wether or not the product is something for me
@@umassigkapthat is how it should be! I’m glad you have that discernment.
Don’t let them make you feel bad. They are manipulating people on purpose and we need to ignore that nonsense.
Love how your glitter eyeshadow looks better than all of the creators swatching Patrick Ta’s eyeshadow duos AND it probably cost you a fraction of the price.
Yes at the end she tells us it was $5!
Did she mention the brand? Would love to get it as a gift for my sister.😃😊
@meganjaime7728 Go to the bottom of the video description, she put links. The $5 one she's wearing is from Beauty Creations.

Let’s break down all the cons
Possible mold
2/4 are not as glittery
Falls out of pan
Needs a sticky base to avoid fall out
Needs a flash studio to get the shine
Ignoring the mold, all of this adds up when you use them daily.
I’m so blessed to have deleted tiktok, i have no idea who this guy is and i know nothing of the drama but I’m still invested
nah $58 for a foundation is actual crazy work - i triple guessed buying my current foundation for £10 😭😭😭
Me too! I buy essence brand and I already think a gloss for 3.75 euros is insane!
😡😡😡
Yeah EA is so wrong for this. I just play the Sims 3 it's far superior and way cheaper than Sims 4
When is competition coming? With all these mergers the corporations are just buying each other up so there is no competition to force change.
Gurl pirate the game don’t give ea money
oh my god people will defend a multimillion dollar company with their life, like hello? pookie, they don’t care about you, they don’t care about us. especially when the companies are notorious for greedy behavior. it’s so weird and tbh i think it’s getting worse with social media and the whole thing with brand accounts acting like your friend
They can literally take the game away from you WHENEVER they want!!
THANK YOU for telling us what you were wearing on your eyes and showing us comparable products! Your eye looks are always STUNNING!!! 🤩
I've ALWAYS wondered. 🥰
For years until now I thought Patrick Starr and Patrick Ta are the same person / brand 😂😂😂😂
Omg SAME 😂
Yeah exactly.. I was like woah patrick starr has lost a tonne of weight and started acting like a man..good for him😂
Then I realised they're 2 different people.
💀🤣
Literally learned this in this exact video 💀

Awesome coverage of this issue seriously well done! I am one of the suckers who longed and longed for the UD Space Cowboy shadows and had to wait months for it to restock at my Sephora. Then because I am in Canada the single shadow was a whopping $32+tax so close to $38!!! And to say I was underwhelmed is an understatement, the shadow was dry and chalky right out of the package. Never again will I fall for all the 'viral' products.
