You're missing a hand? That's a true gamer right there, not letting it get in the way of the love of gaming.
He's a double amputee. There's a video of him kicking ass at bowling. He's a much, much better bowler than I'll ever be. 👍
@@ravager48 Quadruple. Missing both legs as well. Dude is a complete badass for bringing us all this amazing content and having to deal with all that.
@@Dorelaxen Hell yeah!
@@Dorelaxen Guys an inspiration.
Quad amputee, thanks
God did I ever play the hell out of this one. Big Boss Man and the Boss Man Slam all day long.
One of my best childhood memories was seeing Kerry Von Erich take the Ten Pounds a Gold from Flair at the Texas Stadium in '84. My granddad drove us 7 hours to see it, and it was just incredible.
That is awesome, what was the crowd reaction like in person?
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries Unreal. We were back a ways from the ring, but holy crap, the entire place just exploded.
@@Dorelaxen That sounds fantastic. The loudest I've ever heard a crowd Was the first time Piper came through in the place just came unglued. That was until I saw Hogan against Ric flair six months later and it was so loud my ears were hurting. I have never experienced anything like that sent
I met Kerry Von Erich in '89. He let me hold the belt for the picture. The man's shoulders were so big, he could barely fit through a regular doorway. He was my favorite wrestler... miss those WCCW days.
It's a shame Rick Rude was omitted. I met him with my parents when I was 8 and he was the nicest guy.
That is cool, I have never met him
When I was in high school waiting tables at a Roadhouse, I had Diamond Dallas Page come in and he tipped me $120. I even told him my favorite wrestler's were Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior & Macho Man. Not him. Lol

Was never a wrestling fan, but this game was amazing in the arcade! It had such detailed sprites and so many moves!
The best darn game I ever played and bested and still remain tag champ to this day
Not for long brother
Mat Maina is my favourite I want download it for Android you got tips
@@lawrencerichards5396 did you try looking up in the play store on your phone???
I downloaded few arcade apps carbt find it atm
@@lawrencerichards5396 how interesting indeed, let me try and find it on my phone and I will get back to you
Still play it regularly to this day
So do I :-)
A stone cold classic - childhood favorite. Wrestlefest is much better but wouldnt exist without this one
Big Boss Man was the key to victory, he was the meta! Get your opponent close to the ropes, Irish whip followed by BBM slam, opponent gets up panting, stand behind him for auto Irish whip , slam, repeat. It would bypass the opponents "invincible mode" when he wants to tag.
I've played as boss man but he was never one of my favorites. Thanks for the tip
The Game Boy version of Superstars was closer to the arcade in a way. It still played similar to Wrestlemania Challlenge, but it had larger sprites and it plays better.
Yup. The sprites are very similar to the arcade version. Very cool that they made a Gameboy version of it. I'd say that it's the best wrestling game on the Gameboy. Just about anything that was developed by Rare back then was a home run. Just a shame that it's SO bareboned... I also really wish that they had stuck with Rare for WWF Superstars 2 but it's not bad. I actually have a video of WWF Superstars & a few other Gameboy WWF games on my channel.
YAYYYY Patman is back! I never got to play this game because I wasn't allowed, but I remember watching the 1988 summer slam!
Thank you. That summer slam was a huge event
Loved that Hulk Hogan intro. Its so cool to see you talk about wrestling. It blows my mind that you met Ric Flair. I got into watching wrestling through my dad too. He has so many fond memories of 1980s wrestling. Technos did a sensational job with this game. Everything about is perfect and has so much attention to detail. It really shows Japanese game designers have a massive adoration for wrestling. My dad absolutely loved this game and WrestleFest as a kid. Its mad to see how far wrestling games have come since the early 80s. Exceptional video Pat!
Thank you very much. I have actually met him three times but this last one he was at a show only about 10 miles from me and I actually got to talk to him for a few minutes because he was asking about my situation with my arms and legs. He seemed like a really cool guy.
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries what's up with ur arms and legs Patman?
I'm EXPLODING with Nostalgia here... remember how HYPE this was in the arcades. I definitely need to dig this ROM up
It's still a lot of fun to play
A man after my own heart. I started watching in 84. I was a Hulkamaniac and switched over to the Macho Man. There was a reason I subscribed to your channel. 🤘🤙👍
Excellent, I really do appreciate that. Thanks
PatmanQC AND WWF?! Well, queef in my face, this is gonna be good, BROTHER!
Edit: Props on mentioning the Cutie Suzuki game! Bull Nakano and Akira Hokuto are still legends in my eyes and heart.
LOL, thanks. The cutie Suzuki game is actually pretty good
This and Wrestlefest took so many of my quarters!!! Loved these games
Macho Man was the best "rassler" WWF ever had
He was always one of my favorites
The cream of the crop
@@hellomarysuegoodbyeplot2193 and the cream of the crop always rises to the top OH YEAH!
Patman, the best there is, was, and ever will be !
LOL, excellent reference
Put the letter S in front of patman and you will get my exact opinion of this channel
@@NickkaFlickkaWang I don't know whether to like that comment or not
Well you said you were a wrestling fan right? This guy just quoted bret Hitman hart and stone cold cut a famous promo on Bret hart saying "Put the letter S in front of Hitman and you get my exact opinion of Bret Hart". Smh
This and WrestleFest were fantastic. Goes to show you how timeless and versatile the Double Dragon engine and control scheme was.
@PatmanQC I discovered the WWF while surfing channels in 1985 (10yrs old) I became an instant Paul Orndorff fan then The MACHO MAN Randy Savage also became my all time favorite. He is the greatest!
Great video showcasing this classic WWF wrestling game with the classic heroes of that time. And as the late, great Macho Man Randy Savage would often say in his commercials, "Step into a Slim Jim! Yeaaaahhhh!!!" ;)
LOL, thank you
I would daydream about this game as a kid, lol. It was in my local fish and chip shop. About ten years ago I built a bar top MAME cabinet to play this game on.
Two of my favourite moves are, 1. with Savage or Warrior, atomic drop an opponent so they bounce of the ropes(they must bounce off the ropes), then stand on the turnbuckle and wait for the opponent to stand dazed and panting, then hit any button and fly kick them half way across the ring lol. 2nd favourite was to throw the opponent out the ring and fast double tap both buttons simultaneously to lunge out of the ring landing on top of them 😁
Comment number 2, i was expecting this video about a WWF arcade game, great content, like ever.
Thank you very much my friend
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries thank you for your awesome content, you deserve a lot more subscribers.
This takes me back to one day not having to go to school so I decided to go to the arcade and after spending what little cash I had some truant cop stopped me and gave me a hard time to go home.
Never been much of a wrestling fan but this and the sequel are must plays for me due to the Double Dragon and overall 'Technos feel'. Both looked ace back in the day. Also wasn't aware of DD Reloaded so will be definitely checking that out thanks!!
You should, it is a lot of fun
Hope you’re feeling well, Patman. Love the Hollywood Hulk remix at the beginning. And Macho Man was also my favorite. THE CREAM RISES TO THE TOP! :-)
Thank you,Hope you enjoyed it
"Happy little games......BROTHER!" lol
LOL, thank you
Man, this makes me miss being a kid. Good times back then.
I agree :-)
This was another great one! Thanks buddy!
Thank you so much
Patman, you rock! Both golden eras are how I grew up, too and love! You've met Ric Flair which makes you automatically a high rolling, "Candle pin Bowling", styling and profiling, wheeling and dealing son of a gun!
LOL, comment of the day. Thank you
God I love wrestling in the 80s and 90s. And this game was so much fun. Childhood memories right here. Oh, and Miss Elizabeth was born and raised in a town like half an hr from me. I forgot her until I saw this video. Good old days 😊
It sure was, pure nostalgia
Loved this! Classic and so many great memories. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it, Thanks
I absolutely love WWF Superstars ;-)
Hands down the best, most fun wresting arcade game.
Thanks for the video Patman QC.
Well let me tell you something, brother! -
This is an awesome documentary! 🤩
I remember playing WWF Superstars every morning at the local 7-11 while I waited for the school bus to arrive
(playing as Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior).
I spent many quarters on this one!
I’d daydream about having my own arcade and this game was at the top of the list at the time.😁
Thank you so much for the trip down memory lane! 😊👍🏻
I’ve liked, subscribed, will follow you on Twitter, and look forward to watching your other videos as well as future videos!
Take care! 😊
Thank you very much my friend. I always wanted to own an actual arcade machine myself but I never did. Thanks for subscribing :-)
Honey wake up, new PatmanQC!
LOL, thanks
For me, WWF WrestleMania - The Arcade Game was the wrestling game I played a lot, once you get the hang of the mechanics it`s really fun to play.
It is a lot of fun and I really enjoyed playing and learning all the moves
i loved superstars 2 on gameboy. loved it, sadly never played this one
Just as the cream always rises to the top, so did all the multitude of insider references you made.
And, yes, I too was a little Hulkamaniac growing up, because this is where the power lies (points to palm) brother.
And like Aliens, this is one of those arcade games that I am bummed never got a proper home port.
Nice job on a fun video.
I appreciate that, glad you enjoyed it :-) thanks
Macho Man and Big Boss Man was my team. This brings back some great memories.
Still a lot of fun to play to the state
I remember this arcade game..it was so awesome to play it!!!
Yes it was :-)
Took my friends to the arcade for my 10th birthday and we played wrestlefest till our arms fell off....single happiest day of my life lol
I had so much fun with the game as well
My absolute favorite arcade game of all time and still the best wrestling game ever made, even better than Wrestlefest in my opinion. I played this a ton as a kid, and it was the first arcade game I ever beat (on 2 player co-op with my brother at the local bowling alley). A few years ago my brother bought and restored an original arcade cabinet and gave it to me for my birthday =), and now I proudly display it in my game room and we still play it all the time to this day.
I could gush on about how much I love this game forever, but I'll just say thanks so much for the great video! Love your channel, Patman!!!
Great video. I played this game at arcades in the early 90's.
I still play it :-)
On of my favourite games of my childhood. Perfection
It sure is, it's an excellent game
Wow this game brings back memories man I grew up in that time with bigger-than-life superstars those were the days the good old WWF years awesome documentary.
Thank you very much :-)
Something I discovered in this game that isn't mentioned; if you throw your opponent to the outside and then run to the ropes you can actually do a dive to the outside just like you see in every modern wrestling match. Of course none of us tried it in 1989, but it's there!
I mentioned it in the video
Rude and Beefcake would have been epic. Great video. I was in middle school then.
Thank you very much
Awesome. I always look forward to your arcade videos! Thanks man!
Thank you so much :-)
Back in the 80s and before it was a count to 20 but Vince McMahon thought fans disliked the long out of the ring count and cut it in half.
Bop’n Wrestling takes me way back. Off subject did you ever play and if so finish Impossible Mission? “Stay a while… stay forever!”
I never finished impossible mission but those voices will stay in my head forever :-)
I had prety much all the wrestling games back in the day rock n wrestle was the 1st game Great video pat
Thank you :-)
Just woke up and figured I watch a video from long time dear personal friend OatmanQC. 😍 I f'n love superstars & wrestlefest! Thank yo u so much! I think I already gave u some money. If not i will.
That is kind of you to save my friends, hope you enjoyed it
It's a good thing they never had a console version or I never would have got any homework done. Interesting to hear about Beefcake and Rude. Didn't know they were supposed to be in.
LOL, no kidding
This kid at the local Walmart, god damn his grandfather. Nobody should ever have to walk up to see you've got 30 qtrs laid out. Too bad I wasn't older, I could have laughed and questioned how you couldn't survive the rumble without a dollar.
Enjoyed the video!
Thank you very much
Wait... no third golden age? One can definitely argue that the arcades experienced a second golden age with the release of Street Fighter II in 1991. The fighting game craze brought arcades back to prominence and led them on a wild ride for 10 glorious years.
I played this as a kid. So good. Funny this had to be the first time in a video game I saw Hulk Hogan use a dropkick LOL.
First and last LOL :-)
Absolutely obsessed with this game when I was a kid. The 711 at the end of my block had and have spent a few hundred dollars in the machine.
LOL, I think I did as well
Never saw the bop n wrestle before it looks great for the time and for the commodore. Pro wrestling on the NES was a favorite as a kid.
It was really good, I'm right there with you as far as pro wrestling goes :-)
Tecmo wrestling on Nintendo was my favorite. Giant swing!!!!!!
I like that game as well
Something about that Megabucks cutscene 12:40…I can’t stop watching it!! Lol
I feel like an idiot for not knowing that this was built off of Double Dragon... I mean, I knew it was Technos and I even noticed Billy lee in the crowd too! C'mon brain :P
Another great little retrospective, PatmanQC. Makes me wanna finally pick up the spiritual successor to those old Technos games, Retromania Wrestling, on my XB1 now...
I haven't tried retro MANia Yet although I don't know why considering how much I love wrestlefest. Maybe it's the roster (or lack thereof) not too sure. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks
You knocked this one out of the park! Another great vid to add to a great channel! Thanks man!
Thank you very much my friend, I appreciate that
Great job with the Howard Finkel impersonation announcing the wrestlers. Very era appropriate. :)
LOL, thank you :-)
Now ya gotta do a Pinser:
Huuuuurrrnnn! Huuuuuuhhhhrrenn!
And his opponent:
Huuuuuuuuuuuurrrrnnnnn!!
Huuuuuuuuuurrrrrnnnnnnn!....
😂
Always and forever will be a wrestling fan and this game was great for it’s time
I still enjoy it, and had a lot of fun recording footage for the game
this game is one of the greatest! it takes me right back to elementary/JHS. thank you for this awesome video Pac💪
Glad you enjoy it!Thank you
Yes i believe 16, or 32 bit conversions would have been nice. I want to see a homebrew of this now in the hombrew scene.
That would be fantastic
I love this channel. Keep it going man!
Thanks, will do!
I was a HUGE wrestling fan and pumped many dollars into this game at the arcade by my highschool (location really is everything in business).
Excellent, I'm sure you like my newest video :-)
Ahh Bruiser Brody, my favorite. My uncle is Joel Deaton, Thunderfoot and was with Frank days before his death. Biggest sad in all of wrastlin' history.
Holy moly, he was always one of my favorites as well
"cut the tape, this isn't going to work for me brother." 6:50.
Man, I laughed so damn hard at that. “That doesn’t work for me, brother” 😂
Loved this game as a teenager. Brings back memories.
Absolutely :-)
If you ever run out of games to cover i would totally watch you cover classic wrestling stuff.
For the longest time I've been thinking of starting a couple of different channels so it's a possibility :-) thanks
I love when u win it just says, WWF. ELIZABETH. CONGRATULATIONS.
Yes, that is a very cool little feature
Nice Finkel impression hahaha
LOL, I've been doing it for years my personal life so I'm glad I could put it in a video :-)
Sad thing is, only Hulk Hogan, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Honky Tonk Man and Ted DiBiase are the only ones still with us 32 years later. We had good times with the game and we missed those no longer with us.
The sequel, WWF Wrestlefest, had twelve wrestlers but seven had passed on (more than half): Ultimate Warrior, Big Boss Man, Mr.Perfect, Earthquake, Crush of Demolition, and both anchors for the Legion of Doom (Animal passed away last year).
This and Ninja Turtles were my favorite arcade games growing up 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼💙💙💙
The turtles is an all-time classic
I loved this game as a kid. It's indeed a real shame it was never ported to home consoles.
I personally like how the out of ring fighting is handled in Superstars more than Wrestlefest. It’s always frustrated me that you can’t just leave the ring in Wrestlefest unless someone is thrown out. Then when both wrestlers are back inside the game just jump cuts with them back in their starting position in the middle of the ring. It’s fun to try and clothesline your opponents right as they get back in the ring in Superstars. Also I wish they could have kept the ability to jump off the turnbuckle to the outside or the ability to run and perform a diving attack on your opponent when they are on the sides of the ring.
I agree, that was a bit annoying
Westlemania the arcade game is one of the best wrestling arcade games, have you ever played it? It released in 1995 in the arcade, and was ported to numerous consoles at the time. Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, Sega 32X, PC, Sony Playstation, Sega Saturn. The best home port being on the Sony Playstation, at the time I had it for Genesis, because I didn't get a Play Station until Christmas 1996 when I was 12.
Not only have I played the game also done the video on. I spent so many quarters on this game it was ridiculous. I love playing as Shawn Michaels because I knew all of his moves and combos.
Alright thats it I've had enough. I can finally die in peace. Been waiting for you to review this since u started....great work amigo
Thank you my friend
I had cutey suzukis ringside angel!.... my mate had a Japanese mega drive importanted into the UK before its release. Sadly later on he became a heroin adduct. Selling me his games fir peanuts at the age of 15 . I had no idea until his Demise via an o.d aged 18 (murdered by his dealer due to his snoring apparently) - i had a fare few games from him. Twin cobra. Musha. Rambo. That womens wrestling game. And a few others. All you had to do was remove the case leaving the pcb for it to play on the pal mega drive.
Back in the days I loved Bop'n Rumble for the Commodore 64 which was Bop'n Wrestle's sequel!
I had that game as well thought it was a lot of fun
You got your picture taken with Ric Flair!? You have my much respect. Wooo!!
He was very cool to meet, he asked about my amputations and actually spent a minute or two talking with me about it.
One tip that I could recall from this game was to stand behind your opponent's body, after you drop him on the canvas twice! Just wait for him to stand up, and he should be tired like he's out of breath, leaving him vulnerable to your 3rd attack.
The best chance that I had in beating this game in the last match with Andre and Ted, was to lure Andre outside the ring, have him follow me back in the on Ted's side. Once he tags Ted, I move back to where my tag team partner is, knock down Ted only a couple times, tag my partner to climb in and throw Ted out the ring, then perform a jump attack from the top rope. After that, I climb back in the ring before Andre arrives, drop Ted on his butt once more, then tag again for my partner to elbow drop him and pin him. 😎
If Andre manages to haul himself to my side if the ring and stomp me off during the 3 count, I just repeat all those steps that I had mentioned earlier, but the next time that badly beaten Ted gets pinned, Andre won't run up and save him.😎
Excellent, I never knew that thanks
You could say the graphics for Superstars on Gameboy were close to the Arcade game
Yes they were could call
Macho Man Randy Savage was lightning in a bottle. Perfect character at the perfect time.
He was so unique for His time
It came out when the Mega Powers had split up but I still used them in the game. It was weird when it was being developed they included 6 playable characters and 4 of them were faces and only two were heels.
I picked them as well
remember goin to the arcade, with this and wrestle fist and just having dad feed me quarters ...such a crap feeling having to leave, knowing, ill never have this game at my house... FF to 2021 and i have both on my freekin phone...MY PHONE... the pie... the cpu... its nuts lol.
Super realistic game! The graphics are incredible!
Yes they are, very detailed
This review is AWESOME !
I would add to this that with the FoxM1 M1 sound-only emulator by Matt Kellner (KieferSkunk) you can listen to the entire 506 entries in the WWF Superstars ROM music and sound bytes
However, on the "506" only 70 can be listen and some are duplicate. BUT there's alot of gems in those
There's alot of sound and music NOT use in the actual game.
Note that can also listen other game such as WWF Wrestlefest and even music from WWF Royal Rumble pinball machine and other game.
I have never heard of that but I will check it out. Thanks a lot
Any recommendations on which version to use?

You do get a count of 20 to get back in the ring in Japanese wrestling. Every wrestling game developed in Japan follows this rule also, like Pro Wrestling for the NES and Saturday Night Slam Masters, for example.
Awesome video Brother
Thank you my friend
At 13:00 Virgil counting that Fuck money
WWF Wrestlefest is my favorite wrestling game of all time. I remember being horrible, but I did not care haha
I have not tried Superstars, but will eventually - hopefully!
Give it a shot, it's a lot of fun as well
Hey Patman i remember Chi Town Rumble 89 and watching it on PPV. What was the atmosphere like that night in the arena? Thats awsome you got to see the Flair-Steamboat title match and Steamboat winning the title. Good memories.
It was crazy because when the match started they were chanting steamboat sucks. By the time the match was over though, they were clearly on steamboat side. At the end of the match and steamboat goes up top for his cross body finisher, Ric flair ducks out of the way and I immediately jump out of my seat thinking that the match is over. You could see me jumping like a maniac at the end of the match on camera LOL
11:19 Fun fact, any match live from the Tokyo Dome is five stars.
I agree :-)
This and Wrestlefest were so much fun..
I couldn't agree more
