What are you putting on the arrow? I have not seen anything like this before, could you explain a little more about it.This device is also bought there, and also for what fish is it mostly used?
OK, it's a machined aluminum casing that holds a rifle cartridge. It uses the spear point as a firing pin. Commonly called a "slip on" power head. Usually used for large fish in deep water or for personal protection. Best, Dan
Thanks Richard ! lol, sometimes in all just seems to flow and other times I swear I couldn't stone one with a hand grenade! I appreciate your comments and you watching. Best, Dan
Appreciate the comments. First time I’ve ever heard mention of “properly weighted gun” other than with regard to muzzle flip. What exactly were you referring to when you said that? Thanks!
Alan, on a free diving gun, most prefer it to float when there's no spear in it. On a Scuba gun, most prefer it to sink when "Spearless" so it doesn't float to the surface. I like to weight the gun on the very butt end to make the butt sit on the bottom while the front floats up at a 45 or so degree angel to make it easy to find if you've tossed it down with no spears in it. I am not a fan of filling the handle with melted lead as it puts the added weight where your hand holds the gun. Weighting it with a piece of stainless on the very butt end helps with the overall leverage of the guns weight on your wrist. So putting the weight there, makes the gun sink and reduces the actual weight on your wrist, a def win win. I hope that helps! Best, Dan

RM, it's a machined aluminum casing that holds a rifle cartridge. The spear point acts as a firing pin. Usually called a slip on power head. Commonly used for personal protection or for taking large fish in deeper water. Best, Dan
I have always felt powerheads are the safest most humane way to spearfish. The sharks don't move in because of the BOOM.. and the fish that are harvested never hear it. We mostly used 357 but I have several different ones. I don't have any 7.62x54 That's the equivalent of a 30-06 Ha that's a BLAST
IBB55, I def agree, painless for the fish and safer for the diver. I like the 7.62/54R because they still have enough "oomph" to get it done in deep water. Thanks for watching and your comments. Best, Dan
SW, yes, when I built her, I put in 3 under deck fish boxes, each capable of holding roughly 2000 Lbs of iced down fish. I usually start with two filled boxes of ice and one empty box to begin the trip with. Works beautifully and the 3 compartment design allows for changing the weight distribution if needed. Great question. Best, Dan
That is called a Powerhead , and it puts out an explosive charge to help kill larger fish . It can also be used for protection in case of shark problems .
question on the PH, is the spear the firing pin? I'd love to see a video on how you assemble them. so simple, so fast. I'm also realizing the beauty of deep short dives, is sharks don't have time to show up... you're gone before they zone in.... haha
MrB, yes, with this design, the spear acts as the firing pin. Other designs have a built in firing pin. And you're right, shorter dives def give the Sharks less time to show up. Best, Dan

can't wait to see those fish on the surface.
Thanks Thang, I've def been trying to show more deck footage and have made it something I now regularly do. Best, Dan
Hey Dan, which powerheads do you like using best?
RRI, if I was never going over 130' or so, I'd go with a .223 every time. In deeper stuff, I prefer a 7.62/54R. Best, Dan
What gun/spear setup is that? Seems to be very well setup.
Maybe make a video of it?
Need to find some more boat friends on treasure Coast.
Luis, it's a home made gun. I'll def plan on doing a video on the gun as soon as time permits. Thanks for watching, Best, Dan
Oh oh, head for the coral, there's a killer down here!
S22, thanks goodness they can't talk to each other! Best, Dan
I have always felt powerheads are the safest most humane way to spearfish. The sharks don't move in because of the
BOOM.. and the fish that are harvested never hear it. We mostly used 357 but I have several different ones.
I don't have any 7.62x54
That's the equivalent of a 30-06
Ha that's a BLAST
IBB55, I def agree, painless for the fish and safer for the diver. I like the 7.62/54R because they still have enough "oomph" to get it done in deep water. Thanks for watching and your comments. Best, Dan
Do you have below deck storage to ice up the fish?
SW, yes, when I built her, I put in 3 under deck fish boxes, each capable of holding roughly 2000 Lbs of iced down fish. I usually start with two filled boxes of ice and one empty box to begin the trip with. Works beautifully and the 3 compartment design allows for changing the weight distribution if needed. Great question. Best, Dan
What os the white thing you.put on the tip of your shaft?
That is called a Powerhead , and it puts out an explosive charge to help kill larger fish . It can also be used for protection in case of shark problems .
question on the PH, is the spear the firing pin? I'd love to see a video on how you assemble them. so simple, so fast.
I'm also realizing the beauty of deep short dives, is sharks don't have time to show up... you're gone before they zone in.... haha
MrB, yes, with this design, the spear acts as the firing pin. Other designs have a built in firing pin. And you're right, shorter dives def give the Sharks less time to show up. Best, Dan
hello.. like it.. new friend here.. stay safe and connected.. see you around..
TTV, thank you for watching and the well wishes. Best wishes to you as well. Dan
Que tipo de puntas explosivas son esas me pueden contestar
Amazing nice
Thanks SC! Glad you liked them! Best, Dan
What is that you put on the tip of your shaft
MG, it's a machined aluminum casing that holds a rifle cartridge. Uses the spear point for a firing pin. Commonly called a "slip on" power head. Usually used for self protection or for taking large fish in deep water. Best, Dan
didnt realize how big the AJs are until you bought them up to the boat lol
Thanks Jay, the camera def makes things look smaller than they are. I'm really glad some of you guys got me to start doing some "fish on the deck" footage, adds to the video I think! Best, Dan
Doin some work!! Nice haul Dan!!! Had no idea that tha AJ's were that big. Love the deck footage!
Thank you DGator! I appreciate it! Thanks also for your comments and for watching. Best, Dan
That species for Commercial taking must be at least 3 feet long , and Dan takes the 35 - 75 pounders by choice . He lets the bigger ones go as breeders .

@@danmacmahon3973 Thank you very much for the information Mr. Dan

Hey AW, it's a machined aluminum casing that holds a rifle cartridge. Uses the spear point as a firing pin. Commonly called a "slip on" power head. Usually used for taking large fish in deep water or for personal protection. Best, Dan
Awsome video! This AJs look huge. Just wondering because I’ve never seen it before. What’s the deal with the plastic tips you add onto the tip of your spear gun? Is it so it doesn’t Pearce all the way through the fishes body?
Alex, thanks, glad you enjoyed it! That's an Aluminum casing that's machined to hold a rifle cartridge. The spear point acts as a firing pin. Commonly called a "slip on" Powerhead. Can be used to take down large fish or for personal protection. Best, Dan
Nice
