@@Joatle I feel like a lot of young people still love their country in the West, like the US and Canada, for example. It’s just that they’re not blindly patriotic anymore and hate their governments. We love our mixed cultures and our families, we hold tight the good times of childhood innocence, but the rose-tinted glasses have been removed and we’re far less hopeful than older generations that everything will be okay. It’s not okay-we’re the most divided we’ve ever been, work is hard to find and keep, violence is up, economy sucks. It’s hard to know all that and realize we’ll always be the scapegoat even though a lot of this was decided before a lot of us were born.
Thank you for the videos you make. Most of us will never be able to visit any of these places. Because of your videos I have warm feelings for these places, people, and culture. You are a great teacher and ambassador

I visited Ossetia many years ago, with the Charity Org I belong. We were guest of Family Association of Beslan. We were considered more than brothers. Leaving that country was sad and still today I rdont forget that wonderful strong and full-hearted people. We at "west" often forget to carry the most important baggase when we travel: respect. We are guest in other countries. If something appears strange, it is their own mode. Respect means: "I dont understand you, but it is my limit, not yours."

Stunning, absolutely stunning. I long for the day when UK travellers are allowed to go back to Russia. I had a week in Moscow and St Petersburg back in 2005 and I loved it. Can’t wait to go beyond those cities and see more of amazing Russia. Thank you Elli for showing your beautiful country to the world. The western media would never show us this.
You can get to Russia. Fly to Istanbul.. then direct to St Petersburg or Moscow. "Not allowed" is the best reason to do it.
It’s a shithole - plus your taxes would pay for weapons killing innocent civilians.
Visited last year as a little Scottish lady, only returned in January. No problems encountered, I got briefly detained in Moscow but I will tell you this it was the kindest treatment in comparison to when I was visiting family in America. A sweet young Buryat guard sat next to me and ask a few normal questions and then the rest of the time we were laughing our arses off and sharing stories, the staff offered me food and water since I'd had a long trip and still had further travel to do. Now last time I went to America (2017) I was detained even though I'm technically a birthright American (born there like Boris Johnson lol) and they treated me like crap, strip searches and interrogated me till I was crying even though I had all my documents including birth certificate and living American relatives ugh the whole thing was dehumanising and I'm afraid to ever go back to visit my grandparents.
In regards to Russia though I just flew Belfast to Antalya to Moscow and then to Kemerovo, long trip but I was headed to the middle of the country lol. Still a manageable trip 😸

It’s extremely beautiful, and people there are adorable, cozy and hospitable. I traveled to Dagestan and my husband lived for 2 months in Kabardino-Balkaria, so I’d like to experience that one more time. It’s incredible.

Eli, don’t forget to visit the Jewish Autonomous Region (and its capital Birobidzhan) someday. I can also give you an idea - the village of Urmia (Krasnodar region) is the only place in Russia where most of the inhabitants are ethnic Assyrians

I've visited some of these regions because you've shown me they were safe for a solo female traveler. I'm Romanian & I crossed Russia, Estonia to Gruzia, by car in May 2024. Thank you for helping me drop my fears about going on this trip. I had the best food in my entire life in Kalmykia. Eternally grateful for that! 🥰

Foreigners are advised not to travel to any part of Russia, China, Iran, or North Korea. See the US travel advisory for their list of no go places.
All these places are safer (as long as you don’t engage in politics there) than many major usa cities with rampant crime and a high population of basketball people.
