Just wanna say thanks for reviewing this controller. I've been looking around for a mid-size compact controller that that works good for Serato DJ. I own the NS7ii and I don't like the ideal of lugging this around for smaller parties, BBQ's, and small family get togethers. After seeing this review, you sold me on the Vestax VCI-380. Your the truth bro!
Great to see you do a review on this unit. I was looking for a controller for my first setup and was leaning towards this one. Have thousands of questions but starting to get settled on using this unit. Pricing here in Australia is crazy on some products. BUT the 380 seems to be the best value after including shipping to me. Denon MC3000 and Pioneer DDJ-SR are the other options. I do like the 380's stand alone mixer feature w/balanced outs but this is not a MUST. I have a lot to learn but want a piece of equipment that I wont want to upgrade for a long time. And I love technology. Again thanks for the review.
great review! I have used the 380 and the ddjsx. I love the 380 better because of its layout. the pads are on top and the the platters on the bottom…. not to mention they feel the most accurate and the LED platter indicaters are a real plus!
This dude is on point . . . Very well constructed and user-friendly controller. Even good for scratching/ turntablism. Jogwheels have a nice feel and are very adjustable . . . they can even be tightened and loosened by the knob in the middle of the wheel.
Hi guys, I've been extremely busy with different projects, gigs and private life and as a result I was not able to make new video's in the last two weeks. I'm back in the lab right now and the new video's are dropping asap! Thanks for the support and patience. TLM
Yo TLM - Much appreciated Brother. I have both units (300 & 380) and spin on both. Been waiting for a REAL DJ to demo this controllers and your demo is solid, in fact it's now bookmarked to share with others interested in controllers. THX.
Hey thanks for this review. As a result i have ordered this unit , despite it being slightly older. I have never used anything other than vinyl. But its time to embrace other options. This is the only unit that has encouraged me to do so. :-)
Hi guys, Due to health issues I couldn't finish video's I was working on (NS7-2 review) and I can't record new video's either. I lost my voice over the weekend and that makes it a bit difficult to record stuff ;) I should be fine in a couple of days so stay tuned! For the DJ's who would like to be part of the Saturday Super Session: Join the Saturday Super Session and send me your own video!
Thanks for the thorough review! I've been trying to search everywhere to figure out if it was possible to play samples from either deck on either channel, regardless of the cross fader position. Great to know that you can. Thanks so much for answering that for me!
Thanks for this. I use/own a 400, but can't travel with it to my next show and will be on a 380. I wanted to get familiar before and this was very informative!
This is a slept on unit. Put it in a bag and go! the moving LED light around the platter, the separate power, the XLR AND booth output, external mixer mode, makes this a better piece over the DDJ-SR in my opinion. AND can't forget the post fader effect like the end of the video when TLM dropped the fader and the delay kept going. Not too many controllers do that. Great review.
DDj sx,reloop terminal mix, numark ns7,ns6,n4 and mixtrack pro can all do post fader effects. The n4 and mixtrack won't do it when you drop the fader but if you set the brake up and hit stop it will give you a nice post fader effect.
What up tlm happy holidays. I really enjoy this video a lot ur the 1st video I had to see to view the controller that I got till this day I never went back cause the cool part it's a stand alone mixer. It's really cool future and I can do some tricks and crazy mad scratching which it's really cool. Can't wait for more of your videos soon enjoy your holidays. Funkup Salute 💓✌.
I currently use the VCI 300 w/ reloop neon to equal what the VCI 380 offers for Serato DJ. I Love it and it's fun to work with. My only grip is, Yes it's too small!!!!!! I was disappointed that Vestax went under because I was looking forward to them expanding on there controllers. My VCI 300 is approaching 6yrs. old and is still going strong which speaks to Vestax build quality, Very Good!!!!!!!!
YO! Nice review... Hands down one of the best professional all-around compact DJ controllers ever made. Sounds good, performance pads feel perfect, and the jogs are on point #VESTAXVCI380GANG
dope review I purchased a 380 a few month back and out of all the controllers out there i felt this felt the best for myself for scratching. TURNTABLES FOR EVER BUT THIS IS A GREAT UNIT FOR ON THE GO FIT IN YOUR BACKPACK CHECK MY VID TESTING OUT BELOW KEEP UP THE GOOD ISH!! RESPECT Test scratching on VCI-380
Thanks for the review. I'm doing my research to make the switch to digital djing. Two turntables and a mixer with vinyl will always make sense to me, the digital world has a lot more options in hardware and software. The Vestax VCI-380 looks good and sounds like a solid piece of gear. Portable and can still be a standalone mixer, something the DDJ-SR does not offer.
I used to have the VCI-300 MKII with the Vfx-1 and sold it to buy a DDJ-SZ2. man do I miss my vestax controller for small gigs. I might get this VCI-380 for $200.00 usd from a friend
Great review. I'm considering getting a 380 to move over to serato DJ from Itch. One concern I have is saved loops. Can you activate saved loops on the 380? On the 300 you cannot if you use DJ, only with itch. I prefer hardware controls instead of keyboard shortcuts if possible.
am loving this controller! Just wish it could jump back to the start of a sample after you have released the jog wheel and put you hand back on again (For scratching purposes)
Hi, do you know if the needle position display works with traktor software, i know vestax recently released an official tsi map for traktor but i don't know if the led's rotate like they do with serato? thanks
Hi there! I’m digging the subject out, here’s why. I am looking for a compact controller with jogwheels (Akai AMX disqualified) that would allow me to play indifferently and on the fly digital tracks from Serato DJ Pro and tracks on vinyls. I want to be able to have a single controller in which I can plug my turntables and so to be able to cue the music coming from these different sources from the same mixer, without having to plug / unplug my headphones from a master mixer to the controller and vice versa. For that I would need a compact serato controller that would also work as a stand alone mixer. We are in 2019, I know that Vestax does not exist anymore and that there is no support anymore. But after having done my research I still see nothing on the market that seems to reach the Vestax VCI 380 in terms of compactness and functionality. There was in fact the Mixars Primo that was close to the 380 on paper but it never got released. So my question is the following: does it still make sense to buy a (second hand) VCI 380 in 2019? Thank you 1000x for your insights.
Homie! That was was a dope review. I have this unit also. I went from the Technics SL1200's and moved to the Vestax VCI 300mk2 and 380 without doing the CDJ thing lol You can really get busy using it. (Technics are still my first choice though lol!) Salute bro!!
The load track buttons are a bit fiddly i find, wish it was a single push on one button not two just to load a track

so glad u did this review, i ended up buying this controller the beginning of 2014 which is great that u have an udpated review 2 years later. What is ur opinion on how it works with Traktor 2 software? (ill continue this convo on twitter)
you Can adjust the touch sensitivity on the unit and you can also adjust how loose or tight the jogs are by that funny looking button in the middle of the jogs. and one thing you forgot to mention us you can swap out the cross fader with an innofader or the vestax cf-x2 fader.
The info about the cd-x2 option was onscreen in the last couple of minutes of the review. If i had this controller i would probably switch to tje cf-x2 I also adjusted the platters using the thing on top. I think it's possible to make the jogwheels work real well if you find the right combination of sensitivity settings and the tightness of the platters. I decided not to mention everything because the video would have been even longer if i did. Before the edit the video was 26 minutes :)
Thank you so much for the review. I did have a couple of questions. How loud is the outputs to the speakers, how does the mic sound, and how loud is the headphone output. Thanks
Thanks for your input. I did not check any of those things so I just learned another lesson about doing reviews. If I get the unit in my hands again I will check these things, but right now I don't have the answer
this is off topic but I was wondering if you had a list of your top 20 tracks of 2013? Just wanted to pick your brain on what you thought was hot this year. thanks for sharing the knowledge!
I have this and have been using this. It's amazing. I just haven't been able to edit loop lengths on the fly. Like manual loops. Do you know how to do it? I also use serato itch cause it is more stable than serato Dj. I was using serato Dj one time at home practicing and it crashed. Serato itch or scratch love have never crashed ever ever ever
Probabky one of the most through and significant product reviews I have ever watched. I have an Vestax Arcade VC-100 heavily modded...and I bought a VCI-400 and promptly sold it. I liked the portability of the Vic-100 and the ability to get new mappings and overlays from DJTECHTOOLS.COM. Totally liked the NS7 too. The lit markers are super cool. I wish I could have that on my VCF-100 and motorized platters. Again amazing review. , I would like to se you do a VCI-100 arcade review with a later mapping and overlay.
The DDJ-SX is a totally different controller. In the sense that it is a 4 channel controller and the VCI-380 is a 2 channel controller (as TLM mentions in the video). There is no 'best', there is only a 'answering all (or most) of your personal needs' ;-) So: it depends on what you are looking for in a controller. Is it 2 channels? Is it 4? Want balanced outputs? Etc. You decide what the mandatory features are for you and then you can pick your controller :-)
your videos have been a great help... I am looking to upgrade my current Serato Intro controller, a mixtrack pro 2, to something that is more "pro", and something that I will be able to grow into and use for gigs for at least a few years. I would still be looking for a case for the MTP2 if the volume and cue output were loud enough. Thanks again for your videos, any input you could give would be great! I'm considering the DDJ-SR, the VCI-380, and the MC6000Mk2. Leaning towards the Pioneer or the VCI, but still unsure. Any more input would be much appreciated!
I think that's more about personal preference. I probably prefer the jogwheels on the vci and others will prefer having 4 deck control that you have with the sr. I did really like the 380 though!
I can't really answer that because i didn't get the chance to try out the SR. The SR also has some very nice functions to control Serato DJ. For me, it would be important to test the jogwheels on the SR. I know i like the cogwheels on the VCI-380 more than the cogwheels on the SX. The SR can control 4 decks so that could make the difference for some people. They are both good controllers, that's for sure!
Just wanna say thanks for reviewing this controller. I've been looking around for a mid-size compact controller that that works good for Serato DJ. I own the NS7ii and I don't like the ideal of lugging this around for smaller parties, BBQ's, and small family get togethers.

If a controller has an onboard soundcard and inputs for turntables (or cd players), then you can use the controller as a mixer.
