- What's going on guys, so I've been asked to repair the rear quarter panel on this Ford transit connect.
I'm not doing much bodywork at the moment due to not having my spray booth up and running but my good friend Nathan and bumper2bumper kindly lets me use his from time to time.
It's got multiple areas of damage that need pulling out and panel bearing then filler work and primer to make it right.
It's Ford moon dust silver and silvers can be hard to get right sometime so how did I do.. let's go….

Decent repair that, I’ve just purchased a transit connect same shape as the one in the video and that repair on that back arch is top notch the lines are crisp! I’d be well chuffed if that was my van, shame your garage is too far from where I live as I need a couple of making good areas on my new van! Ah ye 👍🏻🫡😀

Hey Phil thank you sir, I appreciate that and yes a lot of them give me a little tip from time to time. As long as the customer is happy with what I’ve done then that definitely makes the day end better.

15 year vet painter here...colour on the door was already dark to the quarter before you started, I'd put my name on that repair though smart job 💪🏻
Hey bud thank you 👍 appreciate your comment. As you know silver can be a right pain, you can look straight at it and be ok then mover left or right then it look out. I enjoy the body work and have done a fair bit but it’s not my first trade so really appreciate that 👍

Hey Karl, thank you for that 👍. I was surprised with the colour I really thought I would have to blend the door but it came out good. Niceone for noticing the finish that was straight out the gun no polish. I did do a fade out up the top so gave that a small tickle and polish. Thank you again sir 👍
Nice work Sir. Your panel beating looked spot on to me. I agree, you could easily spend another few hours on it, but it was never going to be PDR, so a skim or two would always be the order of the day. Finished van looks good. Many vans wouldn't get repaired.

Tidy job there,absoulutely spot on,like you say,far cheaper than a new 1/4 panel,even,sometimes new panels aren’t perfect 👌

absolutely normal repair procedure there and a good job too brother been in the game a long time and theres nothing wrong with that!! like you say yes you can spend days metal finishing but the job wont pay its worth it great work and great video 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Hey grant thanks buddy 👍👍 I’ve seen a few vids on here people slating loads of filler but what they don’t know is most repairs are done this way. It’s only the bad repairs that blow out and crack that they notice most cars have got filler up them some where Unnoticed.

Thanks rich, I’ve heard some horror stories from the big companies. I understand how most bodywork jobs are fixed but there is stigma over filler as the people that don’t know think every panel damage should be panel beaten to mint yet there’s just to much time involved. Ps I saw my sticker man today I have loads coming and your first on my list, I fired my elgrand up earlier they are so comfy inside.

Haha nigel i did wonder what you might say when i uploaded a different connect video. Thank you for the comment I enjoy the bodywork but my small workshop gets to much when doing mechanics and bodywork so I only do it now and again. What part of the country are you from then? Have I asked before sorry if so.

Filler still has a bad rep because people tend to use it over rust where obviously... its going to bubble and pop through again. met silver is the devil's paint when it comes to matching ... you did well there dude! 😎
Hey bud.. yes I’ve seen a fair few cars where rust had been filled over and the popped, I let my filler go off for as long as possible then same again maybe longer for the primer and it doesn’t pull in or sink. I have seen all types of report looking paint and I don’t want mine to look like that in time. I’ll post a picture up of the rear quarter in a few months when customer comes back for a service. Yes your right silver can be so hard, you could have literally the same paint in the gun yet paint it at a different pressure or lay it on at a different angle and the colour would look out. Yes, I'd be more than happy with that 👍 I only wish a repair I had done around 7 years ago was as good as your repair. The paint on my repaired rear quarter which is also silver has started to go very "strange" It looked ok paint finish wise when it was done but looks bad now over the repaired area. It was a nasty bit of damage and I reckon it's full of filler rather than beaten out ( I've had a magnet on it 😁) Would an old repair be possible to re done from scratch do you think ? I mean all filler removed and the panel properly beaten again ? It's great seeing your repair on the time lapse. The owner of the van should be well happy with that. I'd be over the moon.
Hey Matt thank you mate 👍 yes if filler is really thick and it wasn’t left long enough to properly go rock hard it can sink over time then that makes the paint suck in and look ropey to. Yes a good body shop will just hit it with a grinder and remove all the filler and start again no problem 👍
@@YTDTETV Good info there mate Thank you 👍 It does look ropey now, sort of patchy and like someone has scotch brite'd over it lol. The repair wasn't the best but it was a nasty dent. I think they just clagged it rather than knocked it out. Keep up the good work mate, I'd like to see more body work videos 👍

Hey gaz thank you I literally gave my paint supplier and I got lucky, if you go to a big body shop alot of them have spray out cards and you can pick one that’s close or the same 👍

How many coats of lacquer did you put on. I have just had a repair done on my van (same colour) and it stands out a mile. It was done by a professional garage 😊
