Pretty crazy how the greatest Motocross racer and the greatest FMX rider of all time's main career took place in pretty much the same period of time. Coming to limelight in the late 90's, and both announced retirement in 2006 and only coming out for select events ever since. I'll never forget when they were both voted TWMX rider of the year in 07, both having retired at roughly the same time. So crazy to see them both out on the test track together. Brings back memories of MX Des Nations 2000
Love both these guys! Grew up on two stroke bikes and four stroke bikes. Back in the day, two strokes would smoke the SHIT out of thumpers. Not anymore. Still love the thrill of a two stroke powerband, but give me a newer thumper anyday! There is a reason almost all motocross and supercross guys (if not all) are riding thumpers. But for freestyle, the two stroke is still king. Thanks for not adding music! Love hearing the overgrown mosquito! Get to hear my thumper everyday.
2 smoke FTW!!! Love em. Everything from the way they sounds, to how they smell, to the fun power they produce, to their handling. They are just all about having fun. I even like how they look better than a 4 stroke. I just wish Yamaha would update their 2 strokes. Big ups to KTM for keeping their 2 stroke development alive.
I am like 200! The track wouldn't be dry, packed, and blue if they didn't want it to be. that is what they needed to test on that day, that is why it wasn't prepped. Great video Gary!!
i rode 125 two strokes back in the day, you're right the smell, sound, and adrenalin rush when lined up with 30 odd other bikes on the start line is addictive, also the scary shit you put yourself through in just about every race when overstepping your limits, WHAT A BUZZ.
Big sharp whoops have always been my kryptonite. I guess its somewhat comforting to know that Travis & Ricky may bobble in them from time to time as well! Rock on, guys!
I rode a track once with RC in nw Florida. He was on a kx80 I believe. The kid was tiny. They called him "Little Ricky". I was afraid that I'd knock him off the track...Two laps later he passed me on a step-up called the anthill. His bike was so sideways that I was sure I'd find him dead on the back off the jump. I topped the hill and he was two turns ahead of me. No bs. I pulled off the track. Lesson learned. I watched him ride over triples that 250 two strokes wouldn't try. thx randy + penny
This was the best 9 minutes I have spent in a while! The two best riders ever, on a track together, on two-strokes.... Villipoto and Stewart have nothing on Carmichael in his prime.
This just became one of my favourite videos ever... Pastrana at his best, RC on a two-stroke. Tortelli and Millsaps looks so slow on their four stroke in this one, lol !
If I see this, I'm wondering how on earth could anyone ride faster than this. And yet they are obviously just having a good time without really pushing it. If only I had more than 10% of that fitness & talent combined :-) Just great to watch!
The best sound that I'll probably never get to hear again is a single 250cc two stroke inside a stadium on a supercross track.... I wish someone had some video of that!
I have always rode two stroke, the quick response and light weight are a plus. Two strokes take more skill to ride than four strokes because they are so powerful with just a twist of the wrist. And compare the price of rebuilding the top end of a two stroke to four stroke. I rebuilt the top end on my nephews YZ 125 for less than $300. with out the use of any special tools in one hour, try that with a four stroke.
I like 'em both, and they both have their purpose. Personally I prefer the 2-stroke, but that's just about all I've ever ridden. I've spent some time on the 4 strokes and they're cool, the torque is unreal on the 450's. They are nice on the trails and the road. My only reason for change would be to race, but I don't so the 'ol 2 smoker will be a staple for some time to come, plus I really like the idea of a $400 engine rebuild on the 2 strokes. Regardless of what you ride, ride it and have fun!
@mashroom76 theyre called motocross helmets with fins on top. i believe travis pastranas was an m2r brand dont sell em anymore i dont think atleast not in the US.
Those were the real racing machines...and not forget cheap to maintain :D No wonder that I just bought RM250 2 stroke...CRF250 for sale :D Bailey great video!!! Damn those supercross tracks have changed allot from 2005 :D
I remember Yamaha putting the 450 four stroke out in '98. It took a long time for Honda, Kawasaki, and Suzuki to catch up. Remember Stewart riding that 250 2 stroke against the 450 4 stokes that one year? He was crashing his brains out to stay with those thumpers, but he continued crashing once he got on one himself.
I've had both and there is no denying that a 4-stroke is powerful and all that. HOWEVER, when it comes to to repair, rebuild, maintain that finicky little kitten, you'd better have your wallet ready for some big cash-o-la. Costs a heck of alot more to do those things on a thumper than a smoker. Ask anyone who lives on his own, doesn't live at home with mommy/daddy, pays his own bills (all of them) and owns a 4-stroke. Much cheaper and simpler to own, ride, maintain, rebuild a 2-stroke.
I raced MX for many years in Australia Junior pro and tested the KX500 for a local Kawa shop that sponsored me on my 80 & 125cc, there test rider broke his leg first time over the quad jumps and so it was left to me to test the big Mutha! What a Bike What a 2 Stroke!
I remember going to supercross events around this time and slowly seeing more and more 4 strokes. Thought it was cool at the time, but watching this video is sad because back then I never thought 2 strokes would be phased out. Wasn't much longer after this, you'd never see them race again in AMA. Maybe if they put in some R&D like Bombardier E-tec to lower emissions, we'll get to see them make a come back. I'm still keeping the beat alive on my YZ250.
@Rj16199 First off, 2-strokes are faster when 4-strokes aren't given ridiculous handicaps. Second, 4-strokes are louder. 2-strokes have a higher pitch which seams louder up close, but at a distance 4-strokes are much louder. Their sound carries MUCH farther, and this is why tracks have closed.
Never ever forgot the sweet sound of the 2-stroke, and will never ever forget! When your your first bike is a 2-stroke (1974 Suzuki TS100 and your current bike is a 1997 Suzuki RMX250 (street legal at that!), you can easily surmise my bias. Not that I havent tried to riding the diesel MX bikes being forced down the throat of most racers these days, but was never really that impressed with any of them. Center of gravity near your ears! But 4-strokes are lighter, at least your wallet is!
They use to race them regularly as the open class, 250cc 2stroke and 500cc 2stroke, only good riders advanced on these machines as they were a hand full. Very light with about 80 horses but a neck snapping knuckle wrenching power band that would have your legs trailing behind you flapping in the wind like rags if you weren't prepared for it. Great adrenalin rush and an awesome wheelie machine. Ahhhh those were the days. LoL
It sure is easy to tell those two apart on the track. And I think this is the first video I've seen of Pastrana not doing a backflip, or crashing something.
you baught the exact bike as Pastrana....What did he sell you one of his factory bikes ?Thats the only way you could have the exact bike....just because you have a suzuki with probably the same graphix dont make it the same exact bike......i dont know what you have but it is not exactly like Pastrana's...Like i said it may look like the same bike but i bet you his is more than you can see...
no i havent forgotten the sound of two strokes, theyre not dead? lots of riders still ride them. eventually four strokes will take over which is sad but two strokes are still there for a long time to come. and also i watch nitro circus and travis doesnt ride anything but a 08 rm250
well the newer 450s have a lot of power! 4 strokes have improved a lot over the years. if you take a 2013 crf450r vs a 2013 yz250 with equal rider talents the 450 would win because of the newer technology, not dissing 2 strokes they are awesome and i do have my own 09 crf450r and i love it. both amazing bikes, what it boils down to is a bike is a bike and go out and have fun!
@Chazyorkshire sorry bud are tracks over here are much more challenging. theres actually obsticals on it instead on just going up and down hills. woops, tripples, doubles, these kind of things where there is quite of bit of risk
So are they on 125 cc or 250 cc at that time? I got a Kawasaki Tecate 3 wheeler totally built and I just love it when that baby screams and the front end comes up. Even with the +2" Cal Fab swinger the beast just wants to scream and go WFO :) 3Wheeler World check it out.We ride everything and the site is for everyone who loves to ride.

LONG LIVE THE TWO-STROKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yes 4 stroke is work of Satan fucking fart boxes and heavy as shit. 2 strokes forever with the powerband adrenaline hit u can't get on a 4 stroke
Totally agree. The smell of Bel-Ray MC-1 is forever burnt into my memory cells.
I love that sound it makes my heart race n puts a smile on my face. ahhh just my favorite sound ever! and the looks of the bikes are just as amazing!
Nothing beats a good ol 2stroke
I can never watch this video enough! I'm always coming back and watching it again and again
Love both these guys! Grew up on two stroke bikes and four stroke bikes. Back in the day, two strokes would smoke the SHIT out of thumpers. Not anymore. How could I forget the sound of a 2- Stroke. I'm reminded every time I fire up my YZ250.
Same…
2 smoke FTW!!!

I even like how they look better than a 4 stroke. I just wish Yamaha would update their 2 strokes. Big ups to KTM for keeping their 2 stroke development alive.
Of course pastrana is gonna try to skim the whole whoop section with the triple at the end. He's the fucking man
Totally LOVE the sound.....and compliments .... NO MUSIC !!!
It's always a good day when you get to hear the sound a a 2 stroke

I sat and watched the whole session, thumbs up!
This was the best 9 minutes I have spent in a while! The two best riders ever, on a track together, on two-strokes.... Villipoto and Stewart have nothing on Carmichael in his prime.
even with the height and weight difference they both keep the same body position, chin over clamps. 2 favorite 2 stroke riders to watch
This just became one of my favourite videos ever... Pastrana at his best, RC on a two-stroke. Tortelli and Millsaps looks so slow on their four stroke in this one, lol !
Seriously bro, who are the people hired to dislike these badass videos!?
If I see this, I'm wondering how on earth could anyone ride faster than this. And yet they are obviously just having a good time without really pushing it. If only I had more than 10% of that fitness & talent combined :-) Just great to watch!

ricky is such a pro.... too bad he retired.... best rider in history in my opinion.... was a childhood hero of mine :)
I love the smell of 2 stroke in the morning, Smells like victory...
I love that kids on the couch, unrated statement of the century,RC style what's that, beautiful ah kids...

Beautiful 2 stroke sound then suddenly a wild 4 stroke appears, And its goonnneeee
FORGOTTEN!? Never! I still miss it!
the 2 strokes are the beast
I remember watching Ricky beat McGrath for the first time at Anaheim on a Kawasaki! Love motocross...
Aint nothin like the smell of 2 stroke in the morning on race day!
3:29 i almost cried because of how beautiful that corner was
I remember Yamaha putting the 450 four stroke out in '98. It took a long time for Honda, Kawasaki, and Suzuki to catch up. +stellastarr69 yz400f, the 450 came a few years later.
The old KX and CR 500's are still the best bikes around
you have a good point there. KTM may cost more bcoz they continue to develop their models and they come stock with lots of trick high quality parts.
Have I forgotten? Heck no! Still have an '03 CR250R!
I've had both and there is no denying that a 4-stroke is powerful and all that. This is art.
that track is in Corona... been up there a few times to check it out.

I love the bark you get out of a race prepped 250 smoker!
RC - Real nice and Calm racing for sure !
out of all 2smokes i think the late rm's looked the nicest (just my opinion)
most people put on music when they are doing other things. I PLAY THIS! THIS IS MY MUSIC!!
Great video. Anybody else notice how much steeper the jumps were in the two stroke days?
I have the Rm250 2005! Best 250 ever!
great filming thanks cameraman.
The best sound 2 strokes, yamaha yz 250 is beatifull
FMF from orange California really wakes up the engines and lets them breath better.
Two legends riding! RM is the Best!
So true
I'm more of a kawasaki person
This was a good one Gary
you dont see that kinda cornering anymore that lock the back wheel up till it catches then dump the clutch cornering, so classy.
i can fall asleep to this
Aaron Baer in a good way..
i acctually got cold chills down by back the first time i heard a 125 2stroke
NOTHING sounds better than a tuned 2 stroke!
@Rj16199 First off, 2-strokes are faster when 4-strokes aren't given ridiculous handicaps. Second, 4-strokes are louder. 2-strokes have a higher pitch which seams louder up close, but at a distance 4-strokes are much louder. Their sound carries MUCH farther, and this is why tracks have closed.

the sound of awesomeness
who could forget what got them luvin dirtbikes in the first place. Gotta luv those 2 strokes. So sad when I got rid of my YZ125
Pastrana was all balls. Had no finesse. Ricky had balls and finesse.
THOSE are some crisp sounding 2's!!
Everyone used to think McGrath couldn't be touched. RC came along and made him look slow!
LOVE THAT SOUND
I miss my Cr250R, but I do love my CRF250R with fuel injection
I would like to see a list of injuries Pastrana has gotten since this video Oo PS would be nice to have some 2 strokes back racing in AMA...
4 strokes are coming.......and going. 2 strokes forever.
It sure is easy to tell those two apart on the track. And I think this is the first video I've seen of Pastrana not doing a backflip, or crashing something.
Bought an exact same suzuki RM 250 as pastrana's driving today :D
you don't drive a dirtbike you Ride it... or else it Rides you.
grow up kid :)
Been riding since I was 6 im 28 now I have grown up riding dirtbikes
you baught the exact bike as Pastrana....What did he sell you one of his factory bikes ?Thats the only way you could have the exact bike....just because you have a suzuki with probably the same graphix dont make it the same exact bike......i dont know what you have but it is not exactly like Pastrana's...Like i said it may look like the same bike but i bet you his is more than you can see...

that drift at 6:69 to 7:03 waauw love -3
@shimokita2 - Didn't slow down the GOAT! He never complained, he just rode fast all the time!
just made this my ring tone :)
Travis has always been great through the whoops.

2 favorite riders

What exhaust system does Ricky have? It sounds amazing!!!
Love this sound but 2 stroke is for fun and 4 stroke are for race !!
thanks for the music free vid!!!!!
love the soundtrack!:)
What true racing could have been !
This is music!!
