Great info ! When I was shopping for my C5, I ran across several that had cracks in the quarter panels. Good to know how easy they are to replace, unlike my C4 where every panel was bonded to the rest of the body.
Most panels are bolted on. I think only the rocker panels on all models is bonded, but I could be wrong. The Z06/FRC roof is bonded and the quarter panel at the roof line is bonded on that model.
The color is the same but they get dried road film which sometimes gets waxed over. It was like that on my red one when I first got it and I noticed a spot where I removed some tar with WD-40 and it looked several shades lighter. I ended up going over almost the whole car with it and really made a difference in the brightness of the color. I could hardly believe how much filth came off when I was done. But the person I bought it from kept it professionally detailed so it was quite a surprise to me it had build up like that. Just throwing this out there.
I appreciate the comment and tip. I went over my car when I first got it and my clay car was pretty disgusting afterwards. It's been awhile since I gave it a real good cleaning, so this may help. Thanks again
Great job Dave! It's never going to be a perfect 100% match, but you are pretty darn close man! I'd say about a 99.5% match. You can't argue with the amount of money that you saved by switching the panel. Excellent Brother! Thumbs up from me as usual... Stay safe... Rico
The gopro makes the new panel look a little darker than it really is in person... if you didn't know it was a replacement panel, you wouldn't think twice... thanks for the support as always and glad you liked the package 👍
I was showing my uncle how easy it was. He has a C3 and he's like so don't you need glue and all this other stuff to bond the panels lol. I haven't worked on his C3, but sounds like there a lot more worked involved for the older cars.
@@YellowVette04 Ya, I owned a C3 and all the panels are glued. Even the front fenders are glued. It's one of the things to look at if ever you are buying a C3. It's good to check the front fenders at the highest mark (on the top) to see if the paint it cracking, and if so, the bond is letting go. I have owned a C3, C4, and now C7, but I have driven the C5 and C6. Guess you could say I like Vettes!!!
You'll need an FRC or Convertible quarter panel. Mine is for the targa/coupe so it won't fit Z06/FRC/Vert. They're not the same across all the models. I found this from Contemporary Corvette in Bristol, PA, but there's a few Corvette salvage yards that may be able to help.
Can't beat it for $90. Simple fix for a problem that was bugging me for awhile. Don't have to worry about rust with fiberglass and mainly aluminum sub frame lol 😉
good info as always. looks good, love those yellow calipers. from here panel looks like it matches door and other well, if anything bumper looks a bit more yellow. i wouldnt worry thats a lot of gas money you saved.
Haha true. It needs a good polish too, so I'll see if that helps at all. Much better condition than my current one and I love polishing lol. Thanks for the support as always 🙏
@@YellowVette04 my poor car is so chipped up it just leaves me wondering what the hell did the first owner do, but i cant see that shit from the drivers seat.
Got that right. Almost decided to go wide body, but then that would change a lot of things and snowball into a bigger investment that I don't want to make just yet. Figured it was a cost effective solution to fix something that has bothered me for awhile. Thanks for the support as always
Good DIY video...looks like a good match to me...I’m betting that because you are aware of the swap it may be more noticeable to you than other ppl. And colors in person are not always the same on video.
You're right. If you looked at the car you wouldn't be able to see a difference unless I said that's a different panel. Then you'll be able to see a slight difference, but it's not bad.
They have an ebay store and I called them immediately when I saw it. They said they can't hold it for me unless I pay full price so I said are you ready to take my credit card number lol. Needs a good polish but it's in much better shape than my old one.
Way easier than I thought it was gonna be to honest. I have a video on the seat belts and where I got them. There's a few sites that do it, but I got them redone from Safety Restore. If interested, I would call for a quote bc our belts have 2 retractors so their online pricing isn't accurate.
True at first I barely noticed a difference, but then as lighting changed I noticed it. Could also be bc i know it's a different panel and maybe if you didn't know then you couldn't tell. One of those "what you don't know, ain't gonna hurt you" things lol
I had the same question when I posted a pic on Instagram, but I didn't read the comment until I had everything back together so I'm not sure. I see the tub in the video, but hard to tell about the tank. Sorry for not having a good answer.
Easier than I thought it would be to be honest. The new panel isn't perfect, but it's darn close. Needs a good polish and it'll look good. Thanks for the feedback, greatly appreciate it 👍
1,000 for repair that little damage. I know they have to blend and paint the panel, but man this shop lost a repair job just for try to eat this guy wallet maaan!! Solution: Used panel for aaaa lot less money PAINTED!!! Thats a win!!!
There was also a deep scratch on the other side of the wheel well that i touched up on the quarter that I wanted to be redone too, so a little more paint and blend. BUT you're definitely right. I jumped at this panel immediately when I saw it on Ebay. Needs a polish, but I like doing that stuff so I'm really happy on this choice. Thanks for watching and the comment.
@@YellowVette04 It will be very interesting to se how are you going to repair the rocker panel. My 98 Vette also have a small broken part underneath, on the screw mount that hold the rocker panel and the side front panel. I bought the car with that Damage already and I really want to get it Fixed.
Common place to crack bc of the lift points. I'm gonna give it a shot and I also plan on doing side skirts which should hide most of the repair anyway.
Luckily Gopro color isn't 100% accurate, so in real life it isn't bad. The color matches the door just fine and I plan on trying to repair the old one. If the repair looks good, then I'll put it back on. Thanks for watching and your feedback.

Hi , do you still have the yellow quarter panel with the crack in it? I’m interested in purchasing it.
I still have it, but I'm not selling it. I plan on trying to fix it and paint it. Thanks for watching and inquiring.
I've done harder things on the C5. I am going to replace my cracked one and have it color matched. Can't find a blue on to match at the moment. :(
Did you consider a wide body kit for your Vette?
If i was gonna spend $1k to fix it, then yes lol. I like the wide body, just don't think i want it yet
Should have done widebody! Lol.. I don't blame you though, always easier to change a body panel if you can, than to pay the body shop..
If i was gonna drop $1k, it would have been on a wide body lol. Maybe in the future, but for now this got me by for minimal cost.
@@YellowVette04 Yup! Don't feel bad, I curb gouged the rocker and lower front fender on my C6Z06 and it was a $1700 bill.... Made me sick!
Dave why you don't go with the wider one ?
Cost. This quarter panel was $90 and wide body would be a few thousand after you include the quarters, paint, new wheels and tires.
@@YellowVette04 you right 👍

My passenger side rear quarter panel and rear bumper are kissing so hard that the bend on the bottom is warped and chipping.
That's from being in negative temps in Maine and then 100+ temps in Texas lol kidding. Corvettes are always known for body panel fitment issues.
