nice video. just as a little side note, the little pin on the side of the thermostat should be orientated up. that makes it easier for air to escape from the engine block. Doesn't really matter all that much, but I figured I would mention it.
A warning for those of you buying the thermostat: The gasket does not come on all the thermostats--without this gasket, your seal will leak. I found out by experience! And YES, this saved me 600$ which is what a local mechanic wanted to change this plus a back flush!
I literally went to AutoZone and they told me I didn’t need it since the gasket didn’t show up on their system. Went to oriellys and they showed me the exact gasket I needed
for everyone following this video, A LOWER TEMP STAT IS NOT A GOOD MOVE. Engines have a design temp. When you use a lower temp stat, it will open earlier at a lower temp. This will only serve to INCREASE warm up time. If it's high-flow too, then it may cause the engine to not ever reach Design Temp. Just stick a 82C back in there. The install tutorial was great though.
A lower thermostat by 10d is beneficial for the motor, especially in warmer climate. The warmer temperatures are for emissions only, therefore premium gas will actually increase performance. When you take 20d drop in temp in the north country in winter you will know it. 10d is optimal for less wear on cooling system components, aluminum head and block material again the steel head gasket. The comment made me laugh, yes, heat is definitely great for a motor.
@@dateatorjr9671 thats funny you say that, because i cleaned it after working on it. nothing worse then a dirty engine bay, i guess the guy lives on a dirt road in west az.
I change my radiator for a full aluminum one and also installed a safelock thermostat just in case it helps a lot the stealership wanted $130 bucks for the original made in china not japan !
I've noticed that none of the Titan thermostat housing replacements have a gasket.. the thermostat housing gasket?? Does the rubber seal on the thermostat seal off the collant ?
Hey Aaron, Excellent video!!! , just a question about the reservoir, I can't see the max fill line, it is half of the bottle or higher? Once again thanks for your videos they are so helpful, I already fix a lot of things on my 04 Titan thanks to you. 👍👍👍
I noticed on the left side of the housing there is some residue/buildup on the engine same on this truck , is this an oil leak or debris from tensioner or belt?
Hi All, its winter here in Saskatoon, Sk. My 2004 Titan shows normal temp on dash, but it blows "warm" air only. so would this be the cause of my prolem. I CAN hear the temp move when i turn from knob hot/cold/ AC/ and foot dash, face any ideas THANK YOU
Hello, Aaron! Big fan of your channel as I also own a Titan myself. This is a long shot, but will you put on a tutorial on how to replace a radiator on a Nissan Titan?(Reading Titan forums online. Radiators seems to be a weak point in these vehicles?) I'm willing to donate as I think you're doing the community a big favor of saving us $ for us DYIers. We appreciate what you do. Thank you.
The radiator on the titans are fine for regular use but if you're towing a camper or are overheating, add a transmission cooler. I did, so much better!
Hi Aaron.. Just subbed to you channel.. Lots of informative stuff in here. How is the low temp thermostat doing so far? Any issue you faced till now? I'm planning to install that in my Armada because I'm living in a really hot area and just wanted to know if this would hurt the mileage or anything.
My thermostat is leaking.. going to replace it since I have to take it off.. is there a gasket or o-ring on the housing? Should I put a little rtv around the housing?
a little rtv wont hurt but is not completely necessary, an o ring is included in the OEM part from Nissan, however if you purchase a thermostat from oreillys or napa, you most like will have to purchase the seal separately, check out the links in the description of this video to find the right part u need.
@@AaronHinesAuto I tightened the bolts a little and the leaking stopped lol.. I have another issue tho.. my heater isn't working but the valve under the cowl has heat on both sides.. any thoughts on what could be the problem?

If it take a lot to get to normal running temperature and heater air is not as hot; it could be a thermostat that is stuck open. Had that happen to me on a different vehicle.
@@MarcoRodriguez-lr2xt it goes from cold to the middle. Never to hot level. When the middle is close to cold and I press on the gas then it move to the middle. Thank you for the reply. Should I change the sensor and thermostat?
@@michaelreyes6761 i would change thermostat first. But if sensor is easy to change and not very expensive you could change it as well. Depends on your budget.
If my heater is not blowing out warm air, could that be my thermostat as well? It worked last year. I tried it the other day and there is NO evidence of warm air. Thanks.
The heater valve Aaron shows at the end, the one on the back of the firewall with the two hoses to it that switches the a/c to heat. That has a motor inside it that gets rusted and fails. That’s 99% your issue I am sure
I have an 04 and that's how it's been the last couple times I've changed the thermostat. No gasket. Apparently, the rubber around the edge of the thermostat IS the gasket.
Thanks! Nissans oem antifreeze is blue, yes. But there are many universal antifreeze mixtures that meet or exceed nissans requirements. And some are green
I've done this a few times and no matter what I do I still get leaks from between the housing and block. I've even changed the housing twice and I still get leaks. What do you suggest I do to prevent leaks from the thermostat/housing area?
Do you see any small cracks around that area? That’s very strange. I’m asunming you are installing a new o ring when doing this. Perhaps a small film of rev silicone would help it seal
@@AaronHinesAuto no small cracks. Brand New thermostat with new seal around it. Maybe it wasn't an oem thermostat. Maybe AutoZone didn't have OEM. I'm not sure. I just placed an order for the one you put a link for. Guess we'll see what happens.
@@eirod yes, I think one thing you have to make sure you do is after you put the thermostat in make sure you twist it clockwise until it locks in place. Heat it in water till it hits 180° and if it doesnt open then its bad. Temps may change you just need to know what temp thermostat you have
