I was out in JAx beach back in 2001, great little beach community back then..........but like most people say, it all went downhill..........the sad part is its getting like that everywhere......as soon as someone finds a great spot, word gets out and in 10 years, its ruined.......
I am glad that you have raised a very important point that people do not consider when moving to florida... BECOMING A FREE HOTEL and FREE UBER to friends and relatives. At first its once a year. Then its twice a year. Then its 4 times a year. Before you know it they are here every other month. And then... They want to snowbird at YOUR PLACE. This past year we just had.... I drove my visiting family within Florida for 2,800 miles who were here in January, February, April, October, December. Would have been during summer too if not for the fact that my AC died. I love my family very much but this is the "reality" of living here in Florida. I remember when I moved to Florida for work in 2007, I had a huge fight with my mom and we did not speak for 6 weeks. She started advertising my tiny little 1 bedroom apartment (at the time) to her friends up north saying "ohh yeah come down, you can stay at his place and he will "show you around". You have no idea how many people break up family ties for these very reasons. People can come to Florida on own, rent a car, hotel, food etc etc... and those vacations cost thousands of dollars. Or they can just "come to visit". And people that move here do this out of sincerity... you know... come here... feel free to visit any time... we will be so happy to see you... and that rhetoric changes in a new york minute once "they keep coming". I laughed with my mom the other week when they were here. She and dad fell asleep in the car when I was driving from Vero Beach to central Florida (2.5 hours) and she was like... it did not feel like that far of a drive.... then she saw the look on my face and how ridiculously hilarious her statement was in light of sleeping entire time. Yeah get ready to be Uber AirBnB.....
Appreciate your follow up - I am now finding buyers want "Smaller Homes" to kindly tell their friends and relatives, they don't have the room to take on guests. - LOL
@@karinaoliveira3988 It is a cycle. If they have small kids... there is obvious trips to disney, universal, sea world and all that orlando stuff. Then there are mandatory trips to the keys. Then its all about going to the beach routine. Then you try and take them somewhere untraditional like crystal clear springs, clear see through rivers, manatees... meh let's hit the beach. AND THEN Their friends begin moving to FL so it becomes about "we need to go and visit them". That is the general life cycle for most. Problem is that when people come from NJ, NY, PA (which most people who move to florida come from there)... they have no idea that in 2 hours of driving you can't cross 4 state lines.... you are just 2 hours into your 12 hour drive wherever. Florida is 7 times larger than NJ for example.
Is it the severe mold and mildew? Intense heat and humidity? Year around insects and lizards? Be careful where you move. South Florida, Orlando area, Tampa area and Jax are ultra liberal and total cesspools with high property taxes.
I grew up in Tarpon Springs Florida moved to Indiana in 1996 when I was 16. I loved the heat my underground pool and the ocean. None of it got old. I will move back sometime not sure when. I would rather live there and not work to be honest since there’s so much to do down there. I remember skipping school at Tarpon high school to go to Fred Howard beach lol! I think living there was very fun but living the normal school/work life I would find it hard to concentrate on real life! Florida is a vacation spot, or best for retired folks. We go every year to Florida matter of fact my parents planned their Longboat Key 3 week trip in June but I think they might cancel this summer due to Red Tide that’s happening now. We will see.
Very good video! This is the one I’ve been trying to find. I’ve been looking for this answer. You said illusion? Well I’m a realtor as well here in Northern Ky. Can you please help me with my illusion lol? Besides normal real estate I specialize in short sales. I smile and dial from a cold office in northern Ky lol. Ok in my mind I can work on the beach and it be warm. I feel I would be more happier too bc up here not only is it cold, some people are just so negative and nasty because of the cold. Can I swing this? Do you think it would make a difference? Or I could just become a snow bird and only come in the winter. Btw it would be PCB. Yes I know it’s not that warm in winter but it’s not 0 below either lol
@@mitcheisenman7872 He sucks. Culture war idiot. Florida has real issues that he’s not able to solve, so he creates phony ones and writes bogus bills against said phony problems. Look at his track record in congress. ZERO legislation passed in 6 years.

Lived in San Diego 27 years and moved to Fl. thank God… It’s so sad what’s happened to such a beautiful state, Traffic (worst in America) crime (Far greater than SRQ), high costs (13% state income tax) Ugh.
I live in CT and would never more to Florida. My sister lives in the villages in a double wide trailer type home and her insurance increased to 4600.00 a year ! The inflation rate is much higher in Florida than other states. Low pay, and the heat in Florida is brutal and I don’t see things getting better. With the ocean warming up to 100 degrees, you can expect more and more disastrous storms. You are right about the politics in Florida. Sadly, Ron DeSatan the Governor is not doing anything to help the Floridians. He’s too busy fighting with Disney and his “ woke “ nonsense
Florida is a pleasant place to live if you are wealthy. Sarasota traffic is a nightmare. The tourist make traffic impossible, as does the over development.Florida half backs are not a joke !
Sarasota is very shallow and fake...the whole State of Florida is flat...very very flat...and very very hot...very very humid....many get bored of Sarasota and leave...too monotonous and boring...
Florida is the sunny 🌞 state, blue skies, swimming in the ocean for hours, soft sand and seashells, it's a happy life. Pink flamingos and palm trees 🌴. Bring your swimsuits and come on down! 🍹
Be careful about jumping on bandwagons (especially expensive ones)...doing what everyone else is doing...moving to Florida is just that. H.O.A.'s are great when people move in (they know how to bait you into them) but overtime things...owners change and so do the benefits, costs and politics of them. I have not heard a single person not complain who've been living in them for a long time. No interest in moving to Florida, but I enjoy watching your video's. I sense a bit of wisdom.
Unfortunately rising cost is also happening up north, esp. NY. Not just the city either. Upstate NY has increased taxes tremendously & the value is not always worth it. Couple that in with just everyday cost of living here- with higher wages come a higher tax bracket- it can even out. Florida isn’t too different expense wise. Now weather is another story, but when you live with -negative degree real feels, snow, extreme pollution, AND hurricanes (Sandy) all in the same state, you can understand why some ppl will deal w extreme heat/humidity for a few months out the year.
I appreciate your honesty. I love to vacation in FL, but I really don't think moving there would be right for us. It's super expensive compared to WI. The politics are not in line with my values. I'm a dental hygienist. FL will not accept any outside licenses, plus the pay is $15 an hour less than what I make. I think maybe it's someplace where we could rent for a month or 2.
I lived in WI for over 30yrs. Now I live in Florida, and yes, I get pay almost $10 less, and rent is way more expensive, but I love it here. I will make it work. 😆
Agreed. Florida politics is awful. It's all about culture wars here. The character of the state has changed as such, over the past 4 years. It's very sad.
Hi, who is your insurance agent?? My insurance went 400. A month up. And I have a new roof, I am really interested in changing the insurance that I have, my agent told me there was no other insurances available now.
Government needs to get involved and control the insane prices that insurance companies are jacking up. Construction roofing, is another rip-off charging whatever they want, disgrace, like there weren't any hurricanes before.
I live in Northern Nevada and I'm considering a winter home in FL. I didn't consider California because of cost, the governor and my political views don't fit well. The travel is 6hrs to the beach in Ca vs 41hrs to Fl. The cost of living in FL is approaching California's. Politics is great in Fl.
I thought seriously about buying here and was shocked at all the add on costs to acquire property; property values have gone up 80% in the past five years, taxes for new home buyers are much higher than for existing homeowners, you have to have flood insurance even if you are not in a flood zone. I think I am too late by at last 2 years, what with high interest rates. Traffic is an issue and setting aside the snowbird influx i just think the transposition infrastructure might not ever get up to snuff. My place would be a vacation place and since another bubble could come along, I will stick with 2-3 month rentals. Not cheap but makes far more sense, UNLESS I would want to live there permanently. Given the overall poor climate, the fact it is a red state (I get tired of seeing signs that say “Fuck Joe Biden” which yes, are plastered in the front yards of people), I would not want to live year round. If you buy a place with low taxes, just wait until you get YOUR bill.
Hey Troy, my wife and I would like to buy a property (condo, single family home) to Airbnb. We love the east coast considering we habe family there already. In your opinion, what are some of the best areas to do so? Also eventually want to retire there. Thank you
Why is it that all these guys are so anti Florida..? Not anti NY, IL, CA, DC, NJ, CT, MA, MN, WI -where crime is taking over, and the states are deteriorating, and crime is over 50% the national average? I live in NE Florida - it's paradise.
Yes, agree with what you said. My sister lived in Orlando area for 18 years and just moved back to Michigan last year, and wished she did earlier….she said its way too crowded, people have become rude, too many traffic jams and finding it expensive,, she hated the summers, and actually missed parts of winter…She also politically said she cant tolerate the governor and ironically his indoctrination, and degrading if your not one of his chosen. To each their own I guess, At least for now, we can move to where we feel comfortable in life.
I have lived in CT for 30 years. Cold weather and snow sucks. Not only that, you wake up it’s dark and it’s dark at 5:00 PM at night, that sucks too. Did I mention the taxes and the cost of power?🙄 3 1/2 years and I’m gone and Florida here we come! Go DeSantis!
Same with me. I live in Chicago for 42 years. I grew up here. I'm tired of the snow, the dark days, the freezing cold temps and most importantly, the crime, gangs and drive by shootings. There was a triple homicide last month near where I live. The guy killed 3 people point blank and shot another person in the face, (she survived) and it was all caught on camera. Chicago is not the same as it once was.
CrytoVin, I just moved here in July, and I cant be happier. Just do It...i know what you are saying about cold, snow and darkness. Yes, I love DeSantis too.
Like deon sanders said “we’re coming” . The whole east coast is afraid of hurricanes, NY was hit with super storm sandy in 2012 then again in 2022 with Irene and flooded the whole Bronx and queens. Florida was just hit with a major storm in 2022 that was a 50 year storm. With that being said the storms don’t scare us snow birds anymore. Make room because we’re coming down there for the good weather and that “mouse”. Also to add I never here Florida having a blackout because of everyone running there air conditioning at the same time. NY summers are the worst and to top it off the beaches are extremely dirty.
I'm pretty Red/Right. Not on God and Trump. Not an anti-vaxxer (those idiots started off Left even). I am pro gun, a fiscal conservative, but still not tempted to move to FL due to bad infrastructure investments. Might be a nice place to retire to though.
I hate the cold am I am from NYC. But I want to move there for freedom. I have been to Hawaii many times. That is really the tropics. NO bad weather at all at any time of the year and I made alot of friends there but they are not free. I cant say much more because youtube will censor it. (no I dont vote blue) I hear rent is more expensive than buying in Florida but we dont know the area well w wanted to rent to buy. Is that possible?

Being a Democrat from your brother's state (CT), I do worry about the far-right movement in Fl. My take from up here is frankly, the opposite of yours: in that we love the state but hate the Governor. Having said that, we'll probably buy a condo in one of the "bluer" parts of the state. Although I still believe most people regardless of party are good and decent. Anyway, love your videos and keep them coming.
Key West voted against having big cruise ships visit the island. Locals feared the environmental impact. Ron DeSantis ruled against the residents. Silt kicked up by the ships has killed half the reef. And the small island can be overwhelmed with tourists.
So many people mention the weather as their top reason to move to Florida. There are so many beautiful places with beautiful weather that don't have all the negatives that the state of Florida does. We have vacationed all over the state and never once did I consider moving there. It's hot and sticky and nasty and swampy. The wildlife isn't a bad thing imo, but that there is such an income disparity is ridiculous. It's clear that the the majority of the citizens of the state are not only impoverished but are unfairly treated by the justice system. The healthcare system is overburdened and substandard. Unless you have money for private, preferably out of state schools, your children would be better served to get a laptop and stay home googling. Florida. No.
It's stupid to buy anything with hoa fees it's too much control buying stuff that keeps going up that's why there's so many homeless people out here rent cheap and keep ur money in the bank and stop being controlled u can always rent if it gets to high or more to another state as u say everything keeps going up
To live in Florida ? Hell no. The hot and humid weather slow you down , make you tired and lazy , the sun wreak havoc on the skin . Florida is boring flatland no hills no mountains just boring lowland anywhere you look . Not to mention the insects and mosquitos and the hurricanes .

I was out in JAx beach back in 2001, great little beach community back then..........but like most people say, it all went downhill..........the sad part is its getting like that everywhere......as soon as someone finds a great spot, word gets out and in 10 years, its ruined.......
Keep up the great work Funkmaster anyone you convince to stay out of this state the more the better. Thanks
Lol 😆
Great video with very thoughtful and balanced perspectives
Thank you
I am glad that you have raised a very important point that people do not consider when moving to florida...
- LOL
Thanks for your feedback
I never thought of that! I live in Boston and always wanted to live in Florida. But catering to relatives all the time must be annoying!
AND THEN
Their friends begin moving to FL so it becomes about "we need to go and visit them".
Great info. Think I will just buy a live-on yacht, and enjoy Florida!
Very good video, thanks Troy!
The weather is too much for me. The sun beats down and the humidity is unbearable except for winter.
Another good video. Keep it coming. Very informative
Thanks, will do!
FLORIDA IS WHERE WOKE COMES TO DIE🤗🤗🤗 KEEP FLORIDA RED!!!🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Yes 🙌🏻
Define " Woke" please.
Guess you like the SS commander you have ass Governor.
@@mitcheisenman7872 He sucks. Culture war idiot. Florida has real issues that he’s not able to solve, so he creates phony ones and writes bogus bills against said phony problems. Look at his track record in congress. ZERO legislation passed in 6 years.
FL is where freedom died when that Nazi DeSatan became governor. What’s next? Big bon fires to burn books no doubt. If you think that what DeSatan is doing is just fine and dandy there is something seriously wrong with you.
Hot weather not the problem for me. It's the humidity.
Florida is a pleasant place to live if you are wealthy. Sarasota traffic is a nightmare. The tourist make traffic impossible, as does the over development.Florida half backs are not a joke !
Thank you for your comments
Sarasota is very shallow and fake...the whole State of Florida is flat...very very flat...and very very hot...very very humid....many get bored of Sarasota and leave...too monotonous and boring...
Florida is the sunny 🌞 state, blue skies, swimming in the ocean for hours, soft sand and seashells, it's a happy life. Pink flamingos and palm trees 🌴. Bring your swimsuits and come on down! 🍹
Right now Florida in the winter , I rent, I pay, and I leave, when I’m too old to travel that’s when I would finally homestead in Florida
Thanks for your comments

Car insurance is the highest in the US… crazy expensive
Thanks for sharing
Be careful about jumping on bandwagons (especially expensive ones)...doing what everyone else is doing...moving to Florida is just that.
H.O.A.'s are great when people move in (they know how to bait you into them) but overtime things...owners change and so do the benefits, costs and politics of them. I have not heard a single person not complain who've been living in them for a long time. No interest in moving to Florida, but I enjoy watching your video's. I sense a bit of wisdom.
luv your video !!!!!!!

@@maria.2695 Florida is flat and very very hot...and very very humid...there's nothing here...
Agreed. Florida politics is awful. It's all about culture wars here. The character of the state has changed as such, over the past 4 years. It's very sad.
Yes, if you come, leave your politics at the state line.
Thanks for not sugarcoating about living in Florida, but you do missed about high cost of automobile insurance, it’s high!
i would love to see some houses and what you get for the money
GREAT FACTS MR FUNK
Hi, who is your insurance agent?? My insurance went 400. A month up. And I have a new roof, I am really interested in changing the insurance that I have, my agent told me there was no other insurances available now.
You said the temp is a factor. But you did not say how hot? That is the highest. What is the average.
Government needs to get involved and control the insane prices that insurance companies are jacking up. Construction roofing, is another rip-off charging whatever they want, disgrace, like there weren't any hurricanes before.
Sarasota is a beautiful place to live but very expensive and lots of hurricane threats.
Hoping I can help, when you are ready to move to Florida
I’m planning on moving down in ten years after retirement. I’ll have to evaluate the situation closely as I get closer to it.
Hey Troy, my wife and I would like to buy a property (condo, single family home) to Airbnb. We love the east coast considering we habe family there already. In your opinion, what are some of the best areas to do so? Also eventually want to retire there. Thank you
Paul - register on my website (www.TroyFunk.com) and start looking at property. I like Stuart, FL as a choice for the East Coast.
Try to live in Boston during the nor’easter 😂
Why is it that all these guys are so anti Florida..? Not anti NY, IL, CA, DC, NJ, CT, MA, MN, WI -where crime is taking over, and the states are deteriorating, and crime is over 50% the national average? I live in NE Florida - it's paradise.
The same reason they think that man can have babies🤣🤣 let them stay up there where they can indoctrinate their own kids😊
I couldn't take that heat, and from reading the comments, I couldn't afford to live there.
Michigan is beautiful! She made a good choice.
If she don’t like the governor then she has to be a far leftist and I’m sure they were happy to see her go!
SARASOTA IS TOO EXPENSIVE.I LIVED IN BRADENTON,FLORIDA WORKED IN SARASOTA MEMORIAL AND LIVED IN B-TOWN FOR 25 YEARS
Great place to vacation.... living here totally different. Key is must have realistic expectation of living in Florida.

I had a house in Simsbury, CT - Yes, the lack of light was a real drawback to me as well. Thanks for sharing
Moved from Somers CT to Tampa this past year…..I don’t miss the cold!!!
There are lots of choices in Florida - thanks for sharing.
Incorrect! People visit Florida and NEVER LEAVE!! We are overflowing with people.

People trying to leave but stuck here...spent too much getting here...too much invested emotionally, hoping it will get better...but they are stuck...
(no I dont vote blue)
I hear rent is more expensive than buying in Florida but we dont know the area well w wanted to rent to buy.

Massive inflation, racism, high unemployment, crime, homophobia, horrendous cost of living, fascism, low wages, tourist schlock, etc.
Florida. No.
What about crime?
It's stupid to buy anything with hoa fees it's too much control buying stuff that keeps going up that's why there's so many homeless people out here rent cheap and keep ur money in the bank and stop being controlled u can always rent if it gets to high or more to another state as u say everything keeps going up
To live in Florida ? Hell no. The hot and humid weather slow you down , make you tired and lazy , the sun wreak havoc on the skin . Florida is boring flatland no hills no mountains just boring lowland anywhere you look . Not to mention the insects and mosquitos and the hurricanes .
