Of course there were many private eye shows prior to Mannix, including Peter Gunn, Burke's Law, Phillip Marlowe, Michael Shayne, Richard Diamond Private Detective, and others, but you're right that Mannix was more popular and for longer than those, and therefore sparked many other similar series that followed.

When I got a 12 inch B&W tv for my 8th birthday, I started going to my room and watch what I wanted to see. There were a lot of great tv shows back then: Lost In Space, Star Trek, Batman, The Monkees, My Mother The Car, The Beverly Hillbillies....you name it. When I was 11, I would stay up to 11pm on school nights...later on the weekends.
