Hello, I have to recognize you for one of the best “how to clean your Gaggia Brera”videos I have ever seen. It was well edited and easy to understand. I’m also glad to know that the weekly process that you follow is the same as the weekly process I follow - cleaning out the grounds from inside, and thoroughly rinsing the brew unit and letting it dry. I have read about people who don’t do that simple weekly maintenance - and their machines become horrible moldy scenes of carnage. Again, thank you for a terrific video. I will look for more by you.
Hi Roland, many thanks for your excellent comment, it's a great little machine but the instructions that come with it could be better, hopefully my video clarifies some of the points. Once again thanks for watching my video and for your comment.
This is the only Gaggia instruction video that actually makes sense. It's easy to follow. My only suggestion would be to mention approximately how much time elapses between each of the cycles before the next cycle begins. Thanks for a great instructional video
Hi Rita, thanks for your comment glad you liked the video, next time I clean and de-scale I'll time each sequence and put the results in the description, thanks for watching.
Excellent video. Every time I go to descale my machine has been complicated for me, but in this video you explain it in a simple and easy to understand way, very grateful.
Hi Eudio, many thanks for your comment glad you found my video useful, the first time I had to descale the machine I got into difficulty, fortunately Gaggia UK are very helpful they talked me through the process. Excellent machine, enjoy the coffee. Cheers.
Hi Kevin, many thanks for your comment, yes my coffee machine is getting a bit old now, I'm starting to think about a replacement, but while its still making a great cup of coffee I'll stick with it until it gives up.
Wow. You’re the man. Subscribed bcs of your handle. My mother-in-law was called Willy and you even remind me of wonderful her. But, I house sit with a Brera Gaggia. I have descaled it, but it still squeaks, so I think it needs the tlc so accessibly shown by you. I can’t wait to house sit again with this fine piece of equipment. 💛
Hi there, many thanks for the sub, if it's making great cup of coffee just let it squeak. You might like to have a look at my cooking channel The Barbecue Walk of Flame, cheers, and thanks for watching.
Thank you I have had this machine for 3 months and have tried several times, unsuccessfully, to descale my machine and the decade solution is a bit spendy! The instructions are also difficult to follow my husband was unsuccessful as well! Your vedio was very helpful!
Hi Lori, glad the vid was helpful, the instructions are not too clear, things to remember the tank must be full to max de-scaler and water, and the machine must be in standby when the two brew buttons are pressed. Many thanks for your comment its so nice to hear from my viewers.
The Descaling instructions begin by saying "Do not turn the machine off or put it in stand-by-mode during the descaling process". In Step 1 it says "Turn the machine off by pressing the "STAND-BY" button. I'm so confused. Please, please clarify. Barbara
Hi Barbra, the descaling instructions can be a little confusing, the first statement really means once the machine has started the descaling cycle do not turn it off, as it will return to stand by at the end of the cycle. To start the descaling cycle it must be in stand by, the water tank with the descaling solution must be topped up to the max level with water, pannarello removed, containers underneath the steam wand and coffee spout. To start the process with the machine in stand by press both brew buttons at the same time for three seconds, the descaling process will now start. You will need to keep your eye on the display screen and the instruction book, at different phases of the cycle there is a requirement to turn the control knob to the left or right, so its not a case of starting it off and leaving it to get on with it. Hope this clarifies things a little, the folks at Gaggia Direct are also very helpful, best of luck.
@@WillyFilmit thank you so much for clarifying that I must start out in stand by mode. I appreciate your rapid response. I can now do the needed descaling work with confidence.
Do you taste the descaling fluid at all? I used to have a Nespresso and used their descaling solution and it ruined the flavor of the coffee from that point on.
Hi Kris, the answer is no, the descaling program on my Gaggia Brera, has two rinse cycles at the end before coffee can be made again. Many thanks for watching my video.
Mine keeps pouring water into the dump box, so I end up with a coffee-grounds slurry. Is this normal? I am the only coffee drinker in the house, so the machine is normally switched off until I make a coffee and then switch it off again.
Hi Tony, as my machine gets older I'm experiencing water and sludge in the dump box, however recently by mistake I picked up a tin of ground coffee, once opened I had to use it, I found it gave a better crema on the coffee, and dry pucks of grinds. Although the grinder is set to very fine, it can't be grinding as fine as pre-ground, probably wear and tear, it makes 6 cups per day and is about 9 years old.
Hi there, as far as I'm aware the only method of descaling is with the programme, however this is not fully automatic, manual intervention is required turning the control knob left or right at various points of the cycle as indicated on the display. Many thanks for your comment its much appreciated.
Thank you, Willy, for your excellent explanation. Truly helpful! Did you ever use the de-scaling programme without the de-scaling symbol showing before? I tried it with my machine and it seems like it doesn't work. Happy to hear from your experience.
Hi Monja, many thanks for your comment I do appreciate it, I haven't de-scaled my machine without the warning light being on, according to the instructions I should de-scale more frequently as I live in a hard water area, however without the light I just can't remember.
Well spotted, all our drinking water goes through a Brita filter, so I don't see the point of another filter reducing the capacity of the water tank on the Brera. Many thanks for your comment, and for watching my video.
@@WillyFilmit I only got my Brera yesterday 😊 One other question I have: Do you leave your machine in standby mode all day and/or night? Or do you turn it off at the back and wall socket? Thanks

Is there a way to manually descale the Brera?

Sometimes its in standby during the day, its always off at night by the wall plug, can't be bothered to reach round the back.
