Have you ever wondered how the overlooks at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park compare to those of the South Rim? Then this video is the one you want to watch! We drive along Cape Royal Road and make stops at Point Imperial, Roosevelt Point, Walhalla Overlook, Angels Window, and Cape Royal Point. The views are not to be missed!
The North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park stands at a higher elevation than the South Rim and offers gorgeous views of Bright Angel Canyon, the Grand Canyon, numerous plateaus as well as the San Francisco Peaks.
Due to the nature of the North Rim's remoteness, there is no shuttle service and travel to the overlooks must be done by your own vehicle.

Woohoo! Awesome! Hope your visit is spectacular! You've hit up some great spots and I don't think the North Rim will fall short. 😄👍
@@CactusAtlasDriving MX5 Convertible, so much to see while driving 65MPH!
I really enjoyed your trip to the Grand Canyon.
Fantastic helpful video!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you! 😊
😎💥 Thanx Cactas Atlas! 👍👍
Thank you too!
What a great tour video. Very well done and much appreciated. I've been to the South Rim, and I'm looking forward to returning and checking out the North Rim.
Glad you enjoyed it! Hope you make it to the North Rim. It's a different kind of experience. One we love. 😊
My spouse and I just visited the North Rim and the Cape Royal road yesterday for the first time ever. While we had been to the South Rim several times before, the North Rim is much more fascinating because it is at a higher elevation, has far more trees, and has far more incised canyons.
One might not think it would be so different, but it really is an entirely different experience. Glad you got the opportunity to visit! 😄
I did a North Rim trip this past week (along with Walnut Canyon National Monument, which was an unexpected treat), and having been to both rims now, I honestly prefer the North Rim. I actually think you get better colors and scenery on the north side, plus it's not nearly as crowded so the visitor experience was very pleasant.
If you do another visit there, I recommend doing the Cliff Spring trail as well. It's not very far at a mile round trip, and because it's mostly within a wooded area, it wasn't as hot as the Uncle Jim or Cape Royal trails.
The smaller crowd size alone makes it top pick between the two for us. 👍 We'll have to check out that trail. Itching to go back - especially now with the unending heat down here. 😅
Thanks for this teaser! I'll be there in October 2023 for 1st time! Can't wait!@😊
Our pleasure! Hope you have an amazing trip! 😄
@CactusAtlas Any advice about the walks & vistas near the N Rim visitor center & lodge?
Hmm. Not really much advice other than every stop offers a different viewpoint to the canyon and formations, including around the lodge area. All very worth stopping to admire.
Thanks for this fantastic tour , gave me some great ideas for my trip there in May. .
Glad to hear!!!
Heading to the north rim in a couple weeks and this is the most helpful video I have come across! Thank you!
Great to hear! Can't thank you enough for that. We hope that you have a fantastic trip to the North Rim. It's really a spectacular place and truly unique and different to the South Rim if you've ever experienced that before. 😊
Absolutely Gorgeous!
Well done, my friend! 😁😁
Thank you so much!
@@CactusAtlas You are most welcome! I just got back to California today from the South Rim. Gorgeous!
And I was wondering about the North.
Your video narration was pretty awesome,

Thank you as well. Glad our video was helpful and hope you have a wonderful trip! 😄
Just want to say Thank You for your effort on your videos. My fiancé and I are going to the Grand Canyon next month starting at Valley of Fire and making our way to the North rim, then Page for Horseshoe Bend then the south rim for a couple days then to Sedona. Of all the videos we have watched so far, yours have helped us tremendously with planning on what to focus on. Especially your Valley of Fire videos, North rim overlooks, Horseshoe bend, and Bell Rock videos. Thanks for all you do and of course we hit the like button on all of them!
Oh gosh! Thank you so much! Super happy to have been of help on your upcoming trip and kinda jealous. Sounds like an AMAZING itinerary! Have a great trip! 😄
This a great video!! Got me all excited for our trip in 4 weeks.
So happy the video got you excited! Prepare to be amazed!!!
Great video - Will be there in 2 weeks, been to the South a number of times, but never the North, looking forward to it.
Thanks so much! North Rim has a different vibe and feel to it for sure which makes it really special to us. Hope you enjoy it too! 😄
Very well done...love this video. We're going to the North Rim this Sept and will visit all of these spots!
Awesome to hear! So happy that we could help and hope you have an amazing trip there. 😄
I am currently doing trip itinerary for GC visit in June 2021. I really wanted to include the North Rim in our visit but wasn't sure about access and parking and so on for three retired ladies. Thank you so much for this video which answered all of my questions.
So nice to hear! Thank you so much for the comment and letting us know. We hope you're all able to visit in June. ☺️
thank you very helpful in my planning process
Absolutely! We hope you have a fantastic time!
Thanks.
thank you so much I appreciate your sharing of the video, I enjoyed it very much
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
@@CactusAtlas which rim of the Grand Canyon is best to see because people can’t have their cameras or phones out on the skywalk to prevent scratches in the glass.
The Skywalk is actually pretty far from the South and North Rims and not the easiest to get to (Google maps shows it's a 4 hr drive from the South Rim). And yes, there's no filming there... a giant reason why we have no videos on the place and still haven't gone ourselves. 😥
As far as which rim is better... it's really subjective in a way. The South Rim is definitely has more tourists but more conveniences available (such as food and lodging) and is easier to get to. The North Rim has a far shorter season and can take a lot more time to reach (depending on where you're coming from) but the remoteness and lower crowd level certainly make for a more personal experience. We favor the North Rim just a bit more for that last reason but honestly they're both spectacular in their own way. 👍
@@CactusAtlas good to know. Thanks
Gracias, eh visitado varios lugares gracias a tus videos.... Mather Campground fue uno de ellos y ahora conoceremos North rim ♥
Thank you!!!
North rim was amazing - this video really helped. Went on Sept 30th for two nights and the Aspen were changing color on the way down 67, and particularly the first 5 miles of Cape Royal road. Had a nice picnic at Vista Encantada and the next day at Imperial.
Sounds fantastic! I have been wanting to go back, and think I will next year.
Great video, really enjoyed it. This is really going to help with planning my trip this year!
So happy to hear it! One thing I didn’t realize until I went is how spread out the overlooks are, as you probably saw. So long as you know that and are prepared to do a little driving, you’ll be good to go!
Wow
Wow! The place is beautiful and relaxing. Thank you for sharing your wonderful video. Have a great day. Take care. New subscriber here. :)
The North Rim has a completely different feel than the South Rim which is so awesome. Thanks for watching and checking our channel out. 😊👍
Great video, really enjoyed it.
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching! 😊
The overlook at Angels Window was a pucker factor of 10
That it certainly was! Maybe pushing an 11. I only wish the video better conveyed the spine-tingling sensation you get peering over the precipice.
So helpful thank you!!!
Anytime! Glad to hear you found it helpful. ☺️
So good tour !
Thank so much!
Would you say you could do the whole tour within about 3 or 4 hours of you just wanted to take pictures and take in the view? And if you've already been to the South Rim would this be more of the same or is it totally different?
I would budget a half day at the very least for the overlooks and as you can tell from our video, the North Rim is an entirely different experience. 👍
Thank you.
Very cool video! you have a new follower . 👍 and subscribed
Thank you! Welcome! 😊
When did you record this video? Date and time.
I was at the South Rim March 12-14, 2020, and it was significantly busier. I just cannot believe how 'empty' it is.
I wish UA-cam would provide a "Recorded on (Date(s))" in the title area.
Sep 25, 2019. It's funny that UA-cam doesn't display recording dates as there's an area for us to enter those dates. I'm not sure where that data goes honestly but it would save me from looking it up each time. After a while I can't even remember what year things were recorded. 😅
The North Rim gets 10% as many visitors as the South Rim so that probably leads to the lighter crowds. We also went about a week or so before the North Rim closed for the winter season.
How long did it take you the whole visit? Thank you great video!!
The answer might be somewhat misleading unfortunately. The footage was filmed across about 3 hours, however, because of filming multiple takes, changing batteries and all the details that making videos entails, it may or may not take the same amount of time as someone just visiting. As for Glenn's trip to the North Rim, he camped there two nights. Hope this helps some! 😊
@@CactusAtlas thank you! It does!
Thanks what time of year is this video taken?
Sept 2019. You can find filming dates in all our descriptions. 😊
Your videos are wonderful. We are going to the Grand Canyon for the first time and going to the North Rim. In your opinion if we skip the South Rim will we be devastated? We do not have kids and are in our late 50's. We would have been to Zion and Bryce already and hiked our butts off. TIA.
In my opinion, the north rim is the best, and you can’t go wrong sticking with the north rim.
@@CactusAtlas thank you so much.
No doubt, the north rim has the most spectacular views of the canyon. After 2 trips to south rim, 2 to north rim, and one to Toroweap Point, I have no desire to revisit the south rim but would gladly return to either or both of the north rim locales.
Very good insider info, thanks. Angels Window did come across in the video as shiver inspiring. What time of the season were you out there and what time did you show up?
The date this was filmed was September 25th of 2019. I think that particular segment was probably filmed mid afternoon, somewhere around 2-4pm. Thanks again for your continued engagement with our channel!
@@CactusAtlas Thanks for the info. Seems like a good time to visit. Didn't appear to be too busy.
It was a great time to go. Honestly not sure how busy it gets at other times since the North Rim is very remote. But for sure, it was pretty quiet during my stay there.
@cactusatlas thank you! Going to The North Rim tomorrow. This was very helpful!
No problem! Have a great time!
OMG! The North Rim is Scarier than the South!
Haha! Scarier or more impressive depending on how close to the edge of the canyon one wanders. 😅
Fantastic helpful video!
