First listen to these guys.... loving it. Love the weariness in the lyrics of the songs. Shades of Mercury Rev, Al Stewart, Ian Curtis Joy Division. Once again Cheryl showing why all the bands want to play at KEXP. Such a knowledgeable respectful music fan. The sound engineering is beast mode too. Thank God there are still places for real bands to reach wider audiences.
I didn't even like the new album on first listen compared to his other ones, but it's a favorite now. Saw them live in a fairly small place and they were perfect.
@@rangers1919 Plenty of bands, albums, and songs don't appeal to me on the first listen. It took me about 11 - 12 years to really get into Destroyer (that is, until just the other day, shortly before Christmas 2021) after I first listened. I liked a few tracks initially, but I was a New Pornographers fan first. (Dan Bejar has written songs with, and toured with them. I saw him with them in mid-2010.)
my first listen to Destroyer was a week ago, the reason is that I will be in Copenhagen in 8 days from now, and have a few days there. looking on the list of shows was Destroyer, I listened to the album "Have We Met", and I was blown away! The tune "It Just Doesn't Happen" is already my favorite track! I can't wait to see them live!
This is a long time I didn't watch through a full performance live on KEXP. This band totally got my attention from the first to the last note. Their sound is really deep and powerful. I'll have to check for more from them ! Thanks KEXP for so many musical discoveries !
KEXP - the only radio station worth a damn any more. I love how Cheryl stands in the room with the band. I used to work in radio - the hosts can never be bothered sticking around for the performance - no interest and no respect.
That's close to what I thought the first time I was listening to Destroyer in 2009 / 2010, but maybe you'll like them later on, like me. This music seems to not be energetic, it's more on the "to relax to" side of songs. ... You could check out their song "3000 Flowers," if you're into something a bit more energetic. It's not like Nirvana or Metallica, of course, but still.
Suicide demo for kara walker is one of the most underrated songs in the worlddddd
Why?
It´s a fucking incredible song.
this band is better every day
man this guys voice is so agelessly rock and roll

Dan Bejar es un maestro. Amazing versions of Tinseltown and Sky's Grey. Destroyer is awesome.

Wow! Amazing sound! Props to the tech guys! And of course to the fantastic band :-)
Yes, tech guys did an amazing job!

I wish Dan Bejar was my uncle

So great. 🎼✌️❤️🙂
Love it!
Awesome vibes, they're improving
Great band, great songs, straight from the heart--the comparison with IC and JD is well made
Finally! How come this took so long to post? Saw it teased on facebook about 2 months ago.
Still so damn good.
YES
Holy shit this is fantastic. Just realized the singer is also in New Pornographers!
Blue Nile if they were still around in 2020
Great great great sound! I love it so much. Live show? Uh…maybe with a backstage visual journey flashing with every song? Otherwise…🤷🏽♂️
I think they got Judd Apatow on one of those geetars.
👍

Destroyer has so many good songs. Try his Thief album from 2000. It's pretty poppy.
