Hi, I'm Dean Wolfe, a classic prog-rock guitar teacher on UA-cam. I grew up on 70s progressive music but abandoned the genre by the 90s because it was too 'hard-edged' for me. My all-originals prog band was rejected by record labels as "too progressive' in the late 80s, so i went into grunge, pop and alternative instead (then folk and acoustic fingerstyle guitar).
2020 was the year of my return to prog and the discovery of 30 years of great music which I'd paid no attention to- until now!
I also will react to 70s and 80s prog that i overlooked, like gentle giant, camel, etc.

Chino Moreno (the vocalist) has phenomenal vocals, very unique.
The guitarist has been playing with a steadily increasing number of strings over the years. First few albums was a 6 string, next two albums were 7 strings, next two albums were 8 strings, and this song from their newest album is a 9 string.
Adding guitar playing to part 2 makes them 100x better, and I watch most of them anyway. Just add some lyric analysis and you got a solid thing going.

You mentioned a lot of the things that makes me love Deftones. Chino's voice (clean and distorted) sounds pleasant to my ears when other screaming bands would annoy me. Also, the spaciness (attributed to a synthesizer) and heaviness of their sounds somehow seems to mesmerize me while I listen to them.
It should be noted that Frank also uses turntables as an instrument... Not really like a beat juggling or scratching DJ would, but almost like you would with tape manipulation. Pretty unique approach to that role

I've mentioned it previously, but there is a UA-cam video by Line6 guitars, of Stevic from Six Foot Ninja giving a demo at NAMM 2018. In it he basically does a playthrough of thier song Oxygen and shows how he overcomes the multiple guitar issue.
