Thanks a lot for watching and safe journeys!
You can read about my strange experiences while living on a beach in Hawaii here: medium.com/@gabrieltraveler/chronicles-of-a-bumbling-adventure-monkey-full-story-d6def2620556
And if you'd like to see more of these paradise islands, there are 77 videos on my channel with the word Hawaii in the title. You can watch some of them here: www.youtube.com/@gabejedmo/search?query=Hawaii
I climbed Diamond head wearing flip flops (slippahs) and a lightweight dress.
I barely lived to tell the tale.
Climb is rough if one is not in the best of shape, as well.
I remember ALLLL of those stairs.
On my way up to Diamond Head, I walked through the same neighbourhood as you did, only from the other way around / the other side, after having gone to GoodWill store and the Waikiki library.
Let me guess ... you are going to Greece next, huh?
thanks Gabe
Kuhio Beach is also quite famous. I adore Waikiki. It is L.A. by the sea.
At timepoint 00:58, you were there. I've been there a time or two. It's the beach with the breakwater.
HELLO ❤️
Next bar harbor Maine...Acadia national park
I have truly loved the Australia-Fiji-Hawaii travels Gabe, thank you so much for all the work you put in to make this channel. Enjoy your well deserved break and I’ll look forward to your summer travels!!
The Indian ones before that are great, also I loved his Greek videos.
More people should be adventurous like Gabe, because as we all know we never know when we won't be able to anymore and I understand that after we're dead traveling won't be much of an option.
its cool when people recognize you around the world! You have inspired a lot of people! The best part i think anyway, is no matter how famous or successful you get, your still the same person you were back when i started watching in 2014.
We were in Hawaii in February....it rained daily!! Our hike time slot was 6am and by the time we got upto Diamond Head peak the sun was just breaking through above the horizon....was so amazing! Diamond Head is a beautiful part of the Waikiki landscape
When you return to California, would love to see another interview with your mother. My best wishes to her for good health & cruising . Thank you so much for your fantastic videos. We appreciate your skill and hard work. Enjoy your well deserved break, Gabriel.
Excellent walk. That part of Waikiki Beach you started from is my favorite area of Oahu. It's peaceful and beautiful and you can feel the joy and content of the generations of tourists and locals who spent happy times there basking in the sun under the palms, laughing, learning to surf, and falling deeper in love.
@Nicoholas - love your description of Waikiki beach, what an amazing place to visit....
Gabe, yep, what you saw was a mongoose. There's lots of them on the Big Island, where I was born and raised (on the East side of the island). Talking about Hawaii, I remember watching that video in 2015 when you flew from Hawaii (Kauai) to Colombia. In fact, I'm an OG and a loyal subscriber (over 7 years). As you know, I've watched each and every one of your videos ever since (except a couple of your camping videos) up to this latest video. Looking forward for more my friend.
Thanks for showing us this walk. I never tire of the view of Diamond Head from Waikiki and I’ve taken pictures of it at all times of the day from the beach and from the water. We have been to Hawaii 4 times. Stayed in Maui and Waikiki in 2009 then Waikiki in 2012, 2017 and 2019. We plan to go back again this year. We love driving around Oahu, the landscape is spectacular, especially the view from Nu’uanu Pali Lookout and the real world movie back drop that is Kualoa Ranch, but we have never managed the Diamond Head hike. My hubby could do it now but my knees are dodgy and while I can walk for miles on flat surfaces, stairs and uneven surfaces are difficultly these days.
You're an amazing man..traveling the world alone for years ..great channel....unique and well done.
well said, Marlene :)
It sounds like you're in love with him Marlene.
@@lanamortenson8694 that's funny..of course not...
WOW at the beginning you past the Air bnb we stayed at across the Zoo Great video
Australians just love Hawaii as do the Kiwis and Japanese. Always an amazing time there. Hoping to do Maui and Kauia next time. Oahu is a bit tough on Lovers Of the Leaf but I enjoyed my cigar early in the morning at the beach - without getting a fine.
13:00: Chickens may have escaped after Hurricane Iniki in 1992, but I can say that Kauai had lots of feral chickens in the early 1980s when my grandma would leave papaya skin and seeds in the yard for them to eat
I was Living on Oahu in Hawaii 1972 for the Crater Festival inside the diamond head Crater. I was 16 years old at the time with Carlos Santana playing with others in his band along with many others. The Crater has certainly changed over the years.
Thanks Gabriel, that was a great tour and hike up Diamond Head.
I so much wish I could visit Hawaii and even considered moving there because of the water life, organic food, healthy-ish living, etc. Thank you for showing this. I truly do love and appreciate you. Even purchased books back in 2018! Namaste! 💗🙏
It's not a healthy lifestyle when you have to work three jobs just to survive. 😮
Hi Gabe, Oahu born and raised here. Glad to see you showcasing Diamond Head and other various locations around the island! If you’re still there, try eating a plate lunch before flying back to Portland.
Been following your channel for a few years now, and you’re by far my favorite travel vlogger! Have only traveled to six countries so far, primarily in Asia, but plan on visiting Canada for the first time later this year, to Toronto and Montréal! You’ve also inspired me to visit Greece sometime next year when I make my first trek to Europe. Looking forward to your future content! Take care and safe travels.
This is a very nice hike, Gabriel! Thank you for showing us this hike.
Stayed right there on Waikiki at the outrigger , amazing time.
Hi Gabriel, I love your storietelling. Thanks a lot for the beautiful hiking tour in Hawaii.
Hi Gabriel, you have an intense passion for Hawaii. It is incredibly beautiful but expensive. I never realized you spent so much time there, but I could see why you wouldn't want to be surrounded by such beauty, it's paradise but at a major cost. Any place around the world with this kind of beauty comes with a major cost of living. At some point, I'm sure it wasn't always like that but that is what it has turned into.
Gold Coast, Australia is nicer...and cheaper !
@@leo1933 There are small similarities but on the whole the Gold Coast is more awesome.
Yay your summer treks must include Greece and her islands ❤️🔥
Great stories. You have spent an amazing amount of time in Hawaii.
Gabriels shirt is a mashup of phtalo green and quinacridone pink 🤪 with some PY3 thrown in...
Gabriel unique , and not only the places make the videos worth watching.🎉🎉
A great episode Gabe, informative and interesting ✅✅👏👏👏
Gabe, I'm liking the Australia/Hawaii stretch of this trip. Still hoping for some Greek Isles this year. Class of 89 HUP! 👊👍
Wowwww What a nice Walking Tour There In Honolulu Waikiki beach One of the Best Beaches in the World,I love this place 😍 Nice Tourist Pots, and Perfect Destinations for family and friends Vacation, Thank u so much sir Gabe, for your Wonderful Excellent tour Video, stay safe Godbless from your solid fan viewer from the Philippines 🇵🇭 sir Marvin 😍👏👏👏🙂♥️♥️🙏👍
Thanks man, have a good one.
Wow, I am usually lucky with hurricanse/typhoons/cyclones. Left Hawaii in february 1992.
You are back in your home country. Cool.
I guess, Poon hill trek is actually a part of Annapurna Base Camp Trek, for which you have to take a long route with adding extra days to Annapurna Base Camp.
Exactly. But you can hike it separately in just a couple days.
Gabriel you have such an amazing memory…Thanks for your hikes through wondrous places. Love it!
Amazing timing Gabriel! I will be here next month! Safe travels!
Thanks for the video Gabe
There is a local bus that will take you from Waikiki to the back of Diamond Head and to the entrance into the crater. The same bus can be used to go to the Saturday morning farmers market that is held at the Kapiolani Community Colleges parking lot in the same area. Lots of good brunch eats there.
Another wonderful and fantastic clip from the amazing Gabe 😃✌️
Cheers Gabe...lovely old vid of you living on the beach back in the day. I look forward to reading more about it. The journey continues! Thanks for sharing it. Safe travels ✌🙏
Hawaii is my favorite. Hey brother, I highly reccommend checking out Molakai while you're there. It's a preserved gem that is not touristy.
Amazing video 🤗😁🏖👍Thanks for sharing and take care 😁✌
Thanks for this post. I was there in 1981 & didn’t know Diamond head was so huge. Wish had.
Thank you Gabriel 😊 hopefully we will see some videos of your time back home, take care and safe travels! Enjoyed all the sights of Hawaii ☀️🌊😎❤
Did Diamond Head a few weeks ago with the same walk from my hotel in Waikiki Beach. I left the hotel at 04:00 and was one of the first people to arrive at the visitor center (by foot). Great hike and experience. Travelled from Jacksonville, Florida, so it was one day across the country, and another half-day to Honolulu. Same for the return. Great experience. I would do it again. You can avoid the shuttle and just take the local bus to and from the airport for $3.00! You also get to see the city along the way.
I’m loving all your vlogs Gabriel. Your passion for travel inspired me to do a solo trip to NZ for 6 weeks. You would love Queenstown !.
Enjoy your time back home with family, look forward to your next vlog.x
What a hike! And loved your stories keep them up! We saw wild mongoose in Maui. Great video Gabriel! So cool you met a subscriber too! ~Cara 😊
Loved your video!! I was born in Honolulu and did my first trip to Diamond Head when I was in the Scouts back in the mid 70's. Amazing how things have changed! My family moved to Maui in the early 80's and haven't done Diamond Head since. I truly enjoy your videos and look forward to the next one every time. I'm now in Colorado and come home to Hawaii every year or so to visit family and may have to make a trip back to Oahu and do the hike again!
Alohaaaaa GAB,
I lived a couple blocks from Diamond Head off Royal Circle, Kahala Gold Coast. Was attending UH Monoa, and took care of a 92 year old Hoalie, " uncle hoogs" a disendant of the Love Clan. It was a very special location on the water, Papaya mangoes growing within arms/fingers reach! Then I sailed away, as how I arrived and found home in Northern Cali.
Cool. Northern Cali is where I'm from. Grew up in Willits, graduated from Berkeley High School and Humboldt State University.
Greek Islands 🤞
@@IadoreyouMaxxy Yay!! Greek Islands, cant wait.
They're the best!
Greek Islands for sure
He's definitely going back to Greece
I love the Greek islands 🇬🇷
😊love it, so beautiful.
It's so great
Great video Gabe as always! We went to Honolulu back in 1988. We did the Diamond Head walk & I had a rotten hangover! We had a great time there!
This was really fun to watch. Hawaii is amazing. I hope to do this hike someday myself.
Very cool!
It’s been a decade and a half since I’ve been to Kauai and I forgot all about the chickens. One of the funniest things I’ve seen.
Amazing I was there in 2003
Portland and the surrounding nature should be trippy…what a journey Gabe POW 💥! Oregon is one of the most beautiful places on Earth! Welcome home you Godly PNWer 😊
Enjoyed thank you🤩
just wow
Enjoying the family time is good for the soul
Awesome
Thanks for taking us up Diamond Head
A lots changed since I hiked to the top with my friend Russ. For one it was free of charge. Lucky we were able to get in during open hours as we just started walking without any research or plan. And when I went to the top we went to the right up the steep stairs. 50LBS over weight I thought I was gonna die from a heart attack. In fact on the way down we passed an older gentleman having a pretty hard time and they were waiting for some paramedics to arrive. I thought, wow that could’ve been me. Yikes. Anyhow, I don’t regret it at all. And your Sandals better than my Flip Flops
Your story reminded me that I first met you in the beginning of 2012 when I had first moved to Kauai. I remember your old apartment as well as your campsite at the beach. And that poor woman that lived out there as well.
Then you came back at the end of 2014/15, I randomly saw you on the beach outside my condo with Sterling. What a coincidence. Heck I think we even hung out again during your 2018 visit. I’m think dinner at the Bullshed right?
P.S. that was a Mongoose
Those were the good old days, when you didn't have to pay to go for a hike. Yep, I was hanging with Sterling on that beach and didn't realize it was right in front of your condo. That was a pretty sweet place you had there.
Great video Gabriel 🙌🙂
You should visit Galápagos Islands!!!
I agree.
Great Stuff!!!👏🏻👍🏻
Awesome Hike and scenery Gabriel! I've been to Oahu and Maui and loved it. That's really cool you lived in Berkeley! I ran away from home in 1979 when I was 16 from New Jersey and went to Berkeley on my own and was in California for 6 months. I lived in San Pablo and El Cerrito when I was there but always ended up having fun in Berkeley. 😀
awesome video! thanks for letting us know which islands are best
Hawaii is nice, getting closer to home

German guy here - My Wishlist for your future travels
-> The UK
--> Dartmoor - The place of Sherlock Holmes - The Hound of Baskerville - Great place for hikking
--> Scilly Islands - 4 small islands on the coast of cornwall - Mediteranian clima and nice beaches
--> Barra Island - Small Island on the east coast of scotland - Very windy and no trees
These are my reachable travel destinations for next year and maybe you can check this places out before i go there?
Huh, so strange. Why do you need him to go first? Experience it for yourself, are you scared or something?
@@lanamortenson8694 It is my holiday plan for next year. This means i have to wait 15 months and these are very interesting travel destinations in the UK. And places that would fits to gabriels normal travel videos. I want to go to this places because i like the way gabriel travels.
Nice work.
Great video
Thats surprisingly good photo with 5 people, and a dog. Even waves in background are positioning right.
I can't wait for the book.
Here's what I've written so far: medium.com/@gabrieltraveler/chronicles-of-a-bumbling-adventure-monkey-full-story-d6def2620556
Great walk! Once you got to the top it reminded me of Castle Hill in Townsville. It's a similar aspect of a prominent hill being close to a city centre. FYI Townsville is a city about 3 hours drive south of Cairns in Queensland. Townsville is the largest city in northern Australia.
Gabriel has inspired me to travel too
exactly
If I have to guess, your summer travel will be to Greece!
I highly recommend Portugal, you won't be desapointed.
I've been to Portugal a couple times: www.youtube.com/@gabejedmo/search?query=Portugal
Hi Gabe, I love your work, can I recommend that you give a try to the North of Spain? The regions of Asturias, Cantabria and Galicia are so beautiful, especially during late spring, summer or early fall.
Nice, I was in Hawaii in 1990, visited Waikiki and the north shore of Oahu, maybe tim to return :)
Please Greece and Turkey. Thankyou. You'll the greatest adventurer my wife said that.
Hey Gabriel, I'll be in the cyclades in late may. Doing my 5th time to Greece and 3rd time solo. If that happens to be one of the countries you're in that would be gnarly. Love the videos and hope you enjoy the time at home and the future summer travels 🤙
Stunning Beach scene there Gabe at Waikiki. You should have gone into the Zoo. Some of my relatives are in there, lol. Sri Lanka is nice, mind you only been to Colombo. That's really cool walking inside a Huge Crater.. :) Definitely a great view from the Top. Enjoy your Break.
Enjoy your walking and talking. Interesting to see you meet that young follower. Well balanced and inspired by your travel videos.
I like to hear your life experiences and think where I was at that time.
Great seeing Hawaii. I always enjoy your videos and seeing places almost as if I am there.
Looking forward to your next videos. Just wondering if you have ever thought of the Azores on your way to Europe. Or where not to go in August to avoid the crowds.
Thanks.
Azores and Madeira, definitely want to visit. I think northern and eastern Europe are the places to go during July and August.
Travel through Austin TX when there is a festival here and you will really be pumped up to party. I looked at your past videos and didn't see any Texas travels. Eeyore's Birthday Party (next saturday) is a day-long festival taking place annually in Austin, Texas since 1963, and it's something I would assume you would enjoy.
I've been to Texas once. It's a long and crazy story. I lived in Austin with a friend for about five weeks, worked at Subway and had some strange experiences there.
@@GabrielTravelerVideos 🤘
Nice video, and if you are looking for good place to eat you have great burgers at Teddy's Burger just next to your hotel at 3:30 they have the best burgers in Waikiki and also you have local landmark Rainbow Drive In on Kapahulu is absolutely a must go to place it was on tv show Diners drive-ins and dives by Guy Fieri....🤙
Lol at 11:20, that'll get you jail time in Florida now.
More photos of Sterling please 🥰
I was in Hawaii from 1989-1991 in the Army at Schofield Bks
For some reason it usually takes me two days to watch these videos
hey Gabe you should visit Denmark and Sweden again this summer in July and August!
If you're still there, head up the road to Kono's, right next to the famous Leonard's, and get one of their BBQ pork bombers. OMG, SO GOOD!!!!
I was last in Sri Lanka 14 months ago and i didn't require an onward flight to get through customs
You are going to Greece again aren't you lol super jealous. I wish I could afford to travel like you do so jealous.
10:49 Hey man, I cannot recommend this place enough, if you're looking for quick and easy grinds... I know it looks like a hole in the wall but they have the best fish tacos in town! South Shore Grill, try to go tonight for Taco Tuesday😀
32:25 Yeah that's a mongoose, they're all over and they're basically the Hawaii equivalent of squirrels, super cool guys
What a change in the commenta from when you were in Australia to now. In Australia there were lots of
'effin this and effin that' whereas now all thats disappeared.
If you go to Reno, make sure you go to Virigin City (Silver town). I thought it was one of the most interesting places that I visited in The States.
Good tip, never been there.
It's Virginia City, not Virgin City. I don't think there is a city anywhere named Virgin.
YE YOU!
Yes Iniki. We were on Kauai 1991
Sounds like a Greek trip on the horizon
I hired a bicycle for a day and cycled up to the hiking track from Waikiki.
Hi Gabriel, sorry if you’ve addressed this previously. Do you have tips for dealing with jet lag?
Love your videos!
