They shouldn't in theory. The outputs of these kinds of facilities should be steam (from the boiler) fly and bottom ash (left over from the waste materials) and pollutant material stored in lime filters up the flu. The only thing coming out of the stack should be steam, the only thing coming out of the furnace should be ash (and residual metals). The ash goes into bulk construction material for things like roads. The scrap metal is used for metal recycling. The lime filters are buried underground (which isn't ideal but better than land fill). In practice, if the burner hopper isn't managed properly then waste content with too high a calorie content can be burned which can cause emissions. But they are constantly monitored by the environmental agency. That said, these facilities tend to be absolutely hated by local residents because of the smell, and the eyesore. Thus they tend to be very hostile to people interested in looking at them, even if those people are well within their rights to look.

Methane is an especially potent GHG. And we are also left with the problem of filling landfills with long lasting plastic material. As for incineration, if the burners and filters are managed correctly then the carbon material produced by burning waste will be captured in the ash, and in the lime filters. It's the lesser of two evils in terms of GHG emissions. The best option is to reduce waste to the point where we reduce our need for incenrators and landfills. Reduce, reuse, recycle, and if none of those, "reclaim" through incineration. But this will take a huge change in public outlook about waste and consumption.

Great video ⭐⭐⭐👍 In additional to education information, the website offers general details on the facility layout plus the 2012 planning application with more specifics and site history; EfW became operational in 2020. The area used to be RAF Moreton Valence Airfield. Street views in '09 & '12 show the site was going to be developed as Kestrel Court Business Park but likely developers canceled plans after the market crash of the period. Nearby industrial also not constructed till years later.
