1996 THROWBACK: "ATLANTIC CITY"

  • In an effort at revitalizing the city, New Jersey voters in 1976 passed a referendum, approving casino gambling for Atlantic City; this came after a 1974 referendum on legalized gambling failed to pass.
Immediately after the legislation passed, the owners of the Chalfonte-Haddon Hall Hotel began converting it into the Resorts International. It was the first legal casino in the eastern United States when it opened on May 26, 1978. Other casinos were soon constructed along the Boardwalk and, later, in the marina district for a total of eleven today. The introduction of gambling did not, however, quickly eliminate many of the urban problems that plagued Atlantic City.
Many people have suggested that it only served to exacerbate those problems, as attested to by the stark contrast between tourism intensive areas and the adjacent impoverished working-class neighborhoods.
In addition, Atlantic City has been less popular than Las Vegas as a gambling city in the United States. Donald Trump helped bring big name boxing bouts to the city to attract customers to his casinos. The boxer Mike Tyson had most of his fights in Atlantic City in the 1980s, which helped Atlantic City achieve nationwide attention as a gambling resort. Numerous highrise condominiums were built for use as permanent residences or second homes. By end of the decade it was one of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States.

its their money ,why should they subsidize local government. yes the casinos should double the paychecks that will help the people. the casinos are just fronts for organized crime. every few weeks they replace the fronts of buildings with new fronts new furnishings, then they do it all over again. check florida ,arizona. former politicians and their families are now living large, how the hell does a super market cost 5 million dollars? and those blacks who didnt want to lose their homes to a tunnel they should have just offered to build duplicates somewhere else. the cost would be al most zero with mob construction bosses being paid off.

I remember, as a kid in the 60's/70's, going to my grandparent's place on St. Charles Place before the house was torn down. The house was beautiful and 4 houses from the Boardwalk. After they came in and tore it all down, a block or so area remained empty lots for years.
The last time I went down there (early 2000's), some guy on the street we were waiting for a Jitney with, was advising us on which streets to avoid. This was not the ACY I grew up with. Yeah, there were tough neighborhoods but nothing like this. They did a heckuvah lot more that dislocate people. They destroyed the town because they had no plan for its residents. ACY used to be a place to bring the family. They fucked it up from the get go.
At least the house that my grandparents moved to -- further uptown between Atlantic and Ventnor -- was still there. May have to go down to check if it's still there.
Wynn fucked up Everett, MA, too Did the same thing with remediation that he's done here. The traffic on 99 already sucked. Can't believe they put Encore in where they did...

Many people are desperate to leave Atlantic City, to be surrounded by millions of elderly ship hopefully of winning.
Why did a large portion of land get given away? Why does he have the right to lease part of his land, which he got for gratis?

IN THE UK ARE NUMEROUS OLD WW2 BUNKERS, SOME ARE EX MOD, SOME NOT IN USE, IT IS RIPE FOR FRAUD. THE CRIMINAL MINDS CAN ACCESS THE TUNNELLS BENEATH PRIVATE RESIDENTS, THEN THEY CAN HACK THEM, ALSO SELL ON THE 'MUGS IN THE HOUSES ABOVE' PRIVATE DETAILS = NO PRIVACY INSIDE YOUR OWN HOME = ID THEFT COULD ALSO OCCUR = CRIMINAL ACTIVITY = TRY PROVING IT WASN'T A RESIDENT ABOVE WHO SIGNED UP TO E.G. EVENTUALLY GENIUS 😂👌😊😉 ACTIVIST HACKERS WILL BE HACKING THE CASINOS TILLS, VIA THEIR EMPLOYEES, PIT BOSSES🥰...
OBVIOUSLY, EVERY PERSON INVOLVED WITH HELPING THE TUNNEL TO SUCCEED WILL BE AN ENORMOUS TARGET👏🙌🎯! EASY TARGETS WILL BEGIN VIA THEIR CHILDREN, GRANDCHILDREN, FAMILY, HOUSEHOLD AND BUSINESS EMPLOYEES! WHERE THERE'S AN IDEA, THERE'S A WAY..
