That's where the Miss America pageant was in that convention center. Everything sure is so different than it was in the early 60s. My Aunt n cousins lived a few blocks North and West of the convention center. I remember when I was 6 watching the Miss America Pageant live and thinking this is happening a few blocks away. I thought that was so special. Going to the beach and walk up n down the boardwalk and eat salt water taffy and cotton candy and penny candy shops and play the carnival games. No casinos on the boardwalk back then, just hotels and theaters and little shops, arcades, and card rooms throughout the city. Just West of the Boardwalk was a main drag that had all these cute little boutique shops with the pink n white striped or turquiose n white striped awnings. That's been their theme since after WWII. That's why you see the little carts with the pink n white striped canopies. A lot of pink or coral colored small apartment buildings too.The ocean was always warm and the sand always white. Us kids used to go down to the fishing docks and wait for the fishing boats to come in and hold up our hands and the fishermen would frisbee giant clams to us - they were about 7 - 10 inches wide. We'd take them home to my Aunt's apartment for dinner. We used to find so many giant seashells on the beach, like huge conch shells and abalone and the spirals. Made sand castles everyday. Listened to great music on my transistor radio that my Grandma gave me, still have it. A few blocks in, they had miniture golf courses. Fun in the sun. Thanks Frank, brings back good memories.

Nucky had a whole floor of the place. Every time I am n there, i have a few friends who live there you can’t just walk in, but it feels like ghosts are in there. Its nostalgic and opulent, historic. First visit to AC 1970. Stayed at the Traymor, a beautiful hotel in its day. It was on its way out then and was demolished in 72. Such good memories of AC. I'll probably stop by this summer.
It's a hell hole , homeless , crank hoes , killers , psychos , muggers , car jackers etc . S. Hole , I go into a deep depression when I walk the b.walk , sad that now even the great atlantic city air show is canceled . But that means I don't have to go and get depressed there either . 😢😢😮😅😊
I used to be a water treatment vendor for all the Caesars casinos. Showboat and the Claridge were sold off back when they were consolidating their AC holdings. Bally's too. Claridge was a real infrastructure dump, but I stayed there many years ago and had the best room I ever stayed in in AC. It had a hot tub in the bedroom. Someone should buy the old Madison Hotel, renovate it; it's a great old building with lots of potential.
29:46 - that is Illinois Ave because that is where the Sands was and, on the boardwalk on that corner, it used to be Tiffany’s restaurant. Correction: Indiana Ave like you said….illinois was one block up where Peanutworld was. Both businesses were owned by the Schiff brothers.
I visited Atlantic City in for the first time in February from Myrtle Beach and that was a mistake, the next time I'll visit in the summer. While Myrtle Beach isn't exactly Florida during the winter, the winter weather there is more pleasant than Atlantic City.I did like the historic feel and the boardwalk better at Atlantic City.Definitely will try to come again during the summer someday. The round trip flight was really cheap though, that's why I visited on a whim.
I'm from here why would you leave Carolina for a cess pool like AC. No law and order here and the state and local government being Dems are corrupt and do nothing to restore law and order so we feel safe so AC can pull the surbanites money. They won't come here due to the out of control crime
I also regretted it when I went there when it wasn’t summertime. Everything was closed and there was barely anyone there. I also don’t gamble so I went for the beach and like the shops. It makes me feel so nostalgic because my uncle lived there so we went there many times while my dad was still alive. He passed away this March so watching this was bittersweet. I also had a similar experience to you where the round trip flight was cheap and ended up going to Denmark during Feb. I regret it but would love to go back during summertime, it was just dark and gloomy, sometimes rainy the whole time.
17:20 - fyi,if you cannot get down there and want to see the interior, watch the 1972 film, The King of Marvin Gardens with Jack Nicholson and Bruce Dern.
I really appreciate this, im going on a solo trip to AC for a concert soon and i’ve never been to new jersey in my life much less completely alone 😭 i have a lot of anxiety so this is a really awesome and informative video to see where i’m going to be walking around at
@sydniebush6490 Just walk fast and do NOT respond to anyone you don't know outside. They are pan-handlers and are just trying to get you to open up so they can ask you for money. Just walk fast and act like you don't hear or see them. Alternatively, try to pace yourself to appear as if you are in another group of people when you are coming up on some open territory (no buildings, lights, police/security presence), or see people loitering--standing, sitting, sleeping--they are inevitably going to ask you for money (and as a woman I'd be worried about much worse).
TY for this walk down memory lane. Although some of your specific facts were off a little it was corrected on screen. I worked there for 20+ years. For both Merv (the best) and president Trump. I left in 2004 for a different state. But growing up in south Jersey I have an attachment to the boardwalk and AC. You could have included the history of NY avenue and how the casinos forced out the thriving gay life pertaining to that era of AC. And surprised that the Miss American pageant and parade was not mentioned. It was a huge part of the history of AC. Thanks for the memories
I didn't mean to school you at all. But I realized i spoke a bit inconsiderate and for that I apologize to you. I enjoyed that very much and it brought up some good memories. As well as the sad side of how the casinos helped me but not the life long residents of AC. Do you have more from South Jersey or AC? I am thankful for you putting this up. God bless
Excellent presentation! You touched on everything including the Skywalk to the Sands / Claridge and you knew that Resorts couldn't be talked about without mentioning Merv. I'm from upstate NY and been going to AC for 35 yrs. I've stayed in all the casinos and was there last week. I had 2 questions as I walked the boardwalk: 1) what's happening with the Hilton? 2) why is Trump Plaza parking garage and one tower still there. You addressed both points. Thanx, AC will continue to chug along but it's heyday are well in rearview mirror.
since this video was posted, it seems as though the Hilton project may not be happening... No progress at the site. Hopefully the former East Tower at Trump plaza can be redeveloped as a hotel someday... Amazing views from that building. Atlantic City has always been a rougher town and will certainly continue to have its ups and downs... Hopefully the existing casinos can continue Reinvesting
As a poker player , im in AC pretty much every weekend for about 30 years. AC has been going through its waves of ups and downs. 2006 was probably the last year of a long positive stretch for AC. That is when online gaming was passed and the recession was on the near horizon. It seemed like it was trying to dig itself out of a hole from that whole 2008-2015 time frame as there were new investments through 2016-2019 and then boom....another setback called covid. Here we are in 2024 and AC has still not recovered from covid , online gaming and new casinos in neighboring states are starting to nail the coffin in AC....unless the casinos get together to do something about it. Right now they seem to focused on doing it cheaper instead of doing it better
@@jayhughes2418 I’m in the Borgata a couple times a month and they seem to be rocking, no recession or inflation there. I like poker at the Borgata, lately getting a bunch of characters there instead of the usual crowd. Plus, Borgata had some nice poker tournament apparel..since MGM took over I haven’t found any good shirts, hats, jackets, etc.
@JoeGiz64 I play poker at Borgata every weekend. It's all I do. Back in the 2003-2013 time frame AC was twice as busy as it is now. I can go back to the first poker room in Borgata. It wasn't where it is now. I can remember huge bad beat jackpots. 60 full tables at borgata. There used to be 9 poker rooms in AC all packed. Each one had 2-3 tournaments a day some more. Trust me all of AC was WAY busier back in the early 2000s and 2010s
Resorts opened in 1978 formerly known as Chalfonte - Haddon Hall, which was taken over by the federal government and became known as Thomas England General Hospital during WWII. During the war, AC became known as Camp Boardwalk. From that point on, a once grand classy seaside resort declined into severe economic times.
The best thing about the AC boardwalk is the BIER GARTEN next to the ritz hotel and near Tropicana. Outstanding selection of beer, great food and ambience. The bartenders are the best, especially Maria, very knowledgeable and friendly. Just an all around relaxed atmosphere oh and they have live music. Check it out, you wont be disappointed.
Maybe next time you could mention where the old motels was along the boardwalk we stayed at the Beachfront Motel and the Roosevelt& Lincoln Motel Thank you
Wasn't there a house that was surrounded by one of the parking garages? The owner wouldn't sell and they basically built the garage around the house. They couldn't build above it as the owner said he owned the "air" above his property too.
That was on the same street as trump plaza....the casino went bankrupt before it was finished and was demolished. The hotel part was an old hotel before hand and was turned into the east tower for trump plaza.
Nice tour of the boardwalk, thank you. So much capital wasted on that strip of land. Imagine what the town could look like if all the property holders actually made proper investments into the whole town instead of just the boardwalk, smh. Anyway, it's a nice Jersey getaway that won't break your pockets.
Trumps worlds fair, I think was before that a Playboy casino, which playboy was denied a li license to run it. Good video enjoyed it. The Claridge was before part of Ballys, was a separate Hotel casino.
Trump's World's Fair was the Atlantis prior to that. Before that, it was Playboy-a joint venture between Playboy and Elsinore. Once Hefner was denied a license, Elsinore took full control of the building.
My 7 year old daughter and I and our German shepherd dog stayed at Ocean April 2023. I'll never go back. Almost mugged every night by homeless people. So sad. They have the most beautiful sunrise though. Crazy escalators too. Long hike up.them to get to your room. A hotel employee let us go up to the top floor. Nice indoor pool. But very dangerous at night, and the early morning.
The Trump Plaza was a very nice hotel/casino too. The Trump World's Fair he bought from another casino operator who failed and made it part of the Trump Plaza. The Atlantic City Council passed a law that no single corporation could own more than three properties. My late wife and I used to like to eat at the Black Forest Restaurant in that mall opposite Cesare's. No more craps tables. The Bally's Casino is very nice. My wife and I used to love going to Bally's. I think Claridge is still part of Bally's. When I got lost last month I walked into Claridge and from there through a few hallways into Bally's. New York Ave is on the Monopoly board. I enjoyed staying at the Trump Taj Mahal as did my wife. Resorts was owned by Trump. He sold it to Merv Griffin when the Atlantic City Council voted that one owner could not own more than three Hotel/Casinos. Maryland Ave. Another property on the Monopoly board. Showboat had a really nice casino too.
At the area of the former Trump Plaza, you mentioned the hotel building next to it. Originally, it was bought to house the Penthouse Casino. Bob Guccione ran out of money and never completed it the building of the casino part. It was a hotel years before the casino era. Trump purchased it and used it as hotel overflow from Trump Plaza.
This is an awesome video! Thank you thank you thank you so much for making it! Tropicana opened in 1981 I believe, and Taj closed in 2016, not 14. I’m not even halfway through the video, but I do have some questions. Do you know what kind of elevators were in Trump worlds fair or the Atlanta club? And do the parking garage is for either casino still exist? Also, has any renovations to begun for the Atlantic club?
I was a young child when the worlds fair casino was open… But given the timeframe in which the building went up my best guess would be Westinghouse. Trump plazas parking garage is still standing but worlds fair…not sure it had one?
@@fgpalm very interesting, thanks for letting me know. Weird to think that they might’ve not even had a garage at all? Sort of random but do you know if the old Jefferson hotel or Madison hotel buildings are still standing? I think they were being used for office space when one of them casinos was still open, but not sure if either of them are still there.
@@kenangerstein3561 I found a website from the demolition company that worked on the project with photos and it does appear that world fair had a very small, small parking garage in the back… Perhaps it was only only valet or only for workers
@@fgpalm I think there was a small area for facility vehicles but, that was it. Maybe area was acquired on Bellevue Ave. toward the end. The only area used for parking was in Convention Hall. The original design had the casino in the Theater Building which was the small building attached to the main hotel. The Casino Control Commission wouldn't approve it. Neither did the approve the other idea of putting an escalator from the Boardwalk to the casino floor. I worked there during the Atlantis years and the Trump World's Fair years and lived up the block on Florida Ave.
I. Thought he really was gonna give the history from the top to the bottom. I remember in the 70's The playboy casino, The sand's Casino. A lot have changed in the millennium years. The best casinos were in the 70's 80's and 90's . I would like to hear about that history. 😊
Also, what was that hotel tower you talked about that you said could be purchased for like only $3 million? And do you ever think the east tower of trump plaza could ever reopen?
East tower would make a great small hotel someday…$3 million hotel was located somewhere near the old sands site…not even sure it’s for sale anymore though
I finished the entire video! What is the black hotel tower you mention in Bally‘s/Caesars? What tower is it and why did they build on top of it? Was it a smaller hotel before? Also, it looks like the sky bridge at hard rock goes over to some thing… Is there anything there at all?
@@fgpalm that’s weird… But it’s still there… It almost looks like it goes over to something to Like a three-story building or something? Weird that there’s nothing actually there.
Good video. But ac boardwalk hasn’t been shoulder to shoulder packed for 20 years sadly. Not even their busiest weeks are they jammed as they once were
There isn’t any parts of Atlantic City that are third world looking. Lol I grew up here and I haven’t seen a section of town to this day that looks as such. But you did give a pretty good video of the boardwalk sir. I drive the tram up there now, it was a very much prosperous summer for the city from what I witnessed. The city should be the Mecca of the east coast in my opinion! They have more work to do with all the vacant properties/land. Make it a family resort for all ages and stay turned on! Thanks for your share.
You are correct and Trump‘s world’s fair casino had an interesting history. It was the Playboy club and at one time before that it was the penthouse resort which Bob Guccione, who was the owner and publisher of penthouse, decided to open up in Atlantic City and it was a failure just like everything else he touched.
PS Atlantic City was a dump and is a dump. That’s why Mohegan is pulling out of resorts. They see the handwriting on the wall. You want to see a real casino and a real place for relaxation, fun and gaming visit Mohegan Sun, Connecticut or Mohegan Sun in Scranton not dealing with a ghetto and you’re not dealingwith taking your life in your hands by coming out of a parking lot at night, not not doesn’t have a future at least long-term future just an opinion
Loved the video and the knowledge behind it ..... however was wondering if u can edit out the constantly clearing of your throat.. it becomes quite annoying as you seem todo it more often towards the middle to end of video I'm sure you can easily edit this out of the video. Just A suggestion....
This dude should do his homework before making a documentary. Golden Nugget/Bally's grand/Hilton/Atlantic Club is correct chronological order, the tower at Trump Plaza opened 1960s as Holliday Inn. The Sands parking garage still stands. Resorts was originally Chalfonte/Haddon Hall and the bridgeway connected the two not built for later expansion. There are more discrepancies but I'm tired of typing.
@@fgpalm wait, so the sans garage is still standing? But it isn’t? Sorry, but if you could just describe this to me in a little more detail, that would be great.

Yup winter can be windy/cold lonely in AC lol
17:20 - fyi,if you cannot get down there and want to see the interior, watch the 1972 film, The King of Marvin Gardens with Jack Nicholson and Bruce Dern.
I really appreciate this, im going on a solo trip to AC for a concert soon and i’ve never been to new jersey in my life much less completely alone 😭 i have a lot of anxiety so this is a really awesome and informative video to see where i’m going to be walking around at
Welcome! Just say where the people are and you’ll be fine!
I had 2 questions as I walked the boardwalk:
1) what's happening with the Hilton?
2) why is Trump Plaza parking garage and one tower still there.
You addressed both points.
Thanx,
AC will continue to chug along but it's heyday are well in rearview mirror.
since this video was posted, it seems as though the Hilton project may not be happening...
That's Corprate America!
Great video!
Nice video 😊
27:14 - the facade changed from the original with the original being a dark green and black, I think.
Friggin.....THANK YOU! Perfect.
Good stuff aint been in ac in awhile good time hard rock my favorite
Resorts opened in 1978 formerly known as Chalfonte - Haddon Hall, which was taken over by the federal government and became known as Thomas England General Hospital during WWII. During the war, AC became known as Camp Boardwalk. From that point on, a once grand classy seaside resort declined into severe economic times.
passed right by days inn morris ave...
Obsessed with those 2 boys randomly fighting by HQ at the end 😭 #DoAC
Right after he said I don't recommend walking any farther. 😆 Looked like a bum fight.
Yes there was
I still believe there is so much potential AC. It's just taking longer than I thought 😂❤
Nice tour of the boardwalk, thank you. So much capital wasted on that strip of land. Imagine what the town could look like if all the property holders actually made proper investments into the whole town instead of just the boardwalk, smh. Anyway, it's a nice Jersey getaway that won't break your pockets.
I went to ocean city last year
Ocean City is 100% more beautiful, cleaner, and safer!
Trumps worlds fair, I think was before that a Playboy casino, which playboy was denied a li
license to run it.
But very dangerous at night, and the early morning.
generally you're fine if you stay on the boardwalk
Should have mentioned Playcade arcade between Texas and California Ave. Right after the bungalow beach bar. The arcade has been there 50 + years
Taj was still open in 2016 I was there, they were on strike!
@@fgpalm Playboy/Atlantis/Trump's World Fair never had a parking garage.
Should have watch this whole video before I posted anything. He did a great job and the sands casino was mention.Thank you.
The old Sands was the location of the Traymore Hotel
Also, what was that hotel tower you talked about that you said could be purchased for like only $3 million? And do you ever think the east tower of trump plaza could ever reopen?
East tower would make a great small hotel someday…$3 million hotel was located somewhere near the old sands site…not even sure it’s for sale anymore though
Late night walk on the board walk. Gl
We stayed at Chalfont Haddon Hall in 1969.
I finished the entire video!
What is the black hotel tower you mention in Bally‘s/Caesars? What tower is it and why did they build on top of it? Was it a smaller hotel before?
Also, it looks like the sky bridge at hard rock goes over to some thing… Is there anything there at all?
The skybridge over the boardwalk at Hardrock is empty inside
@@fgpalm that’s weird… But it’s still there… It almost looks like it goes over to something to Like a three-story building or something? Weird that there’s nothing actually there.
54:00 would be nice to understand
Good video. But ac boardwalk hasn’t been shoulder to shoulder packed for 20 years sadly. Not even their busiest weeks are they jammed as they once were
I like your video thanks
I wonder if you no where the live camera on the Boardwalk has gone thank-you 🙋♀️👍👋🎃🍂🍁🎃🍂🍁🎃
There’s one on resorts and one at central pier
Casino Gambling was legalized in 1976 if I recall correctly
Howard Johnson was the original building before Caesars
There isn’t any parts of Atlantic City that are third world looking. Lol I grew up here and I haven’t seen a section of town to this day that looks as such. But you did give a pretty good video of the boardwalk sir. I drive the tram up there now, it was a very much prosperous summer for the city from what I witnessed. The city should be the Mecca of the east coast in my opinion! They have more work to do with all the vacant properties/land. Make it a family resort for all ages and stay turned on! Thanks for your share.
Atlantic city has been dying since the late 70's and it will never come back to its former glory days. So dreary now.
You just dont know any better. Parts of it look like shit 💩
Is the boardwalk slanted or does it just look like that?
Some sections are kinda in rough shape as far as the wood goes but idk about slanted.
Nice video
Be careful walking at night. Not that safe
The Boardwalk is only 4 miles long ! LOL.
Did he just ignore that little scuffle?
Was too focused on filming, sorry!
It was a good little scrap. Someone probably owed money.
mgm should put a few casinos there
MGM owns the Borgata, it’s just not on the boardwalk
"Trumps World Fair" was more importantly the former Atlantis casino/hotel, and the Playboy casino/hotel before that.
Thank's
for that history. I played at the playboy casino in Atlantic City in the late 70's. Hit a jackpot boy that was the good old days.😊

@@mercy0718 thank you sir!!
Brave walking by yourself on the boardwalk at night. You know why. Savages.
99 year lease? Wow!!
Wow it slowed down alot in July, I remember in the early 90's wall to wall people..
Resorts opened in 1979
No, it opened in 1978!
I don't see any police man. Are there any police on the boardwalk?.
I think I passed at least one cop car
Awesome
When you were talking about the Hard Rock, you mentioned "Trump stain?" What did you mean by that?
Not a fan of those TV screens along the boardwalk every 10 feet
same
I never been there
You are correct and Trump‘s world’s fair casino had an interesting history.
You want to see a real casino and a real place for relaxation, fun and gaming visit Mohegan Sun, Connecticut or Mohegan Sun in Scranton not dealing with a ghetto and you’re not dealingwith taking your life in your hands by coming out of a parking lot at night, not not doesn’t have a future at least long-term future just an opinion
boardwalk runs east/west not north/south
Loved the video and the knowledge behind it ..... however was wondering if u can edit out the constantly clearing of your throat.. it becomes quite annoying as you seem todo it more often towards the middle to end of video I'm sure you can easily edit this out of the video. Just A suggestion....
Sorry the weed smoke must have been getting to me. Editing this took long enough. Lol
@@fgpalm lmao
“NUCKY THOMPSON” .. NAME IN THE SHOW” HIS REAL NAME WAS NUCKY JOHNSON!!!
The Sands parking garage was imploded… There is still a parking garage, but I believe it was the old valet lot
You spelled holiday Inn wrong and your worried about his mistakes. Lol
@@nicolevaughn2008 theres so much history of these places sometimes my memory gets a bit fuzzy…
@@fgpalm your good 👍
@@fgpalm wait, so the sans garage is still standing? But it isn’t? Sorry, but if you could just describe this to me in a little more detail, that would be great.
We built that city on Sex Drugs and Rock and Roll back in the day 1980-1990
The fact that they can't even sell billboard space on the sides of the pier tells you something. It's a dead place now man.
