Audi is advancing into new dimensions in automotive lighting technology. Originally, vehicle lighting mainly served the purpose of ensuring traffic safety for all road users. Previously unknown prospects are now opening up in the wake of digitizing headlights and rear lights: light becomes a medium of external communication and interaction, personalizes design, and provides customers with new styling and customization options.
Lighting has made a veritable technology leap: The evolution from halogen light to xenon headlights to LED technology in automobiles took less than two decades. These milestones of new technologies provided customers with noticeably added value. As well as continually enhancing visibility, Audi lighting has been defining the face of the brand’s models in every era while extending everyday usability by an equally communicative and aesthetic dimension.
In the wake of the transformation of lamps, both illumination and energy efficiency improved. Now, digitization provides another innovation boost with all-new design potential: Light is becoming smart. By means of light signals, the car interacts with its surroundings. As far back as in 2003, the then A8 offered adaptive light with automatic-dynamic headlight range control before a camera on the windshield began detecting other road users in 2010. Two years later, the brand underpinned its innovative prowess and pioneering role in the R8: The introduction of the dynamic turn signal that allows indicated directional changes to be perceived out of the corner of one’s eye marked a significant gain in safety - and still does. In 2017, following their debut in the R8 LMX, Audi presented LED headlights featuring HD Matrix technology with the laser as an additional high-beam light in the A8 luxury sedan - a world innovation in large-scale production. Now, the premium manufacturer is digitizing the Matrix LED headlight while adding even greater variety. The digital OLED rear lamps in the new Q5 have been opening the door to car-to-x communication since this year and, for the first time, make choices of new taillight designs possible at the time of configuring the vehicle.
As well as intelligently illuminating the road, Audi provides its models with an unmistakable personality using distinctive signatures and dynamic lighting scenarios. Even at this juncture, customers are offered various model-dependent lighting signature options, to be followed by further differentiations. The dynamic turn signal or the impressive scenarios of the leaving and coming home functions cause the light to strike an emotional chord. Going forward, lighting technologies will make driving even safer, the individuality of each model even more visible, and external communication even more effective.

The legend is, Audi is actually a lights manufacturer, and the costs of the lights is so high, when you buy them you get the car as a gift.
Why are there so many haters in the comments saying it's "useless" or "wait until it breaks"? Like, where is the pessimism coming from? This tech will be used in basically all new cars in a few years.
Why can't you just admire the beautiful technology and the nice symbolic touch with the animations?
They're just jalous because they will never be able to enjoy such wonder themselves.. 😁😁
As a BMW fan it pains me to say it but Audis look awesome. Their SUVs are the best looking on the road.
Because replacing the OLED Backlight costs about 1500 Euros. For ONE side. Those aren't constructed to last as long as the car. A small H7 light bulb costs about 5 Euros.
@@Kleberei I'm sorry if you've had bad experiences with OLED headlights but these are normally not prone to failure. Their lifespan is longer than any other headlights and I would be surprised if they just failed for no reason

Difference is the country where the car comes from. German laws are different than Americans and in Germany there is no Tesla autopilot yet. Choose your words wisely and think about what you say. Otherwise people won't have a look at your arguments.

This is why Audi is my favorite brand. They think of cool and unique things that car enthusiasts and non enthusiasts alike can appreciate. While BMW and everyone else puts so little thought in the experience, it's nice to see Audi staying true to their creativity. My 2010 GTI with it's adaptive headlights are so awesome on an 11 year old vehicle. Can't wait to see what all these can do.
Exactly, Audi nailed the quad fake exhausts on the new S6, really unique. Also hammering the unique sounding fake engine sounds on their sport models. Very nice
I would not say having some fancy lights is innovative. Tesla is innovative, worth more than all brands combined.

Audi is known for many electric problems. I can only imagine what this would do. Brand new audis still have these electric problems, especially with lights. Light failures, light damping, then you change the light you are stuck with a warning that it's not the original light and cant get rid of that message on the dashboard. After owning two, S4 and Q5, will never buy one again.

My gawd this is an LED enthusiast perfect video. Now if only companies would allow the distribution of their LEDs to the public to be shared and played with the advancement would be surreal.
There are so many companies that designed their own advancement in LEDs but they are so small and the next adnvamcment is only 3-6months later. Meanwhile there will be a company, such as this one, that will be at far ahead of the technology that it's almost unable to be replicated. Therefore the tech is almost never seen distributed or shared with the community.

I can tell you that the LED rear light parts are made 4 km away from where I live. At least of the new A8. I once worked there as a part time job and hold those many parts in my hands to pack them into transport protection container. 13 pcb parts oled segment excluded. Those are many LEDs mounted on 13 different shaped white PCBs

@@el_micha Well not really Hella. It is a subcontractor of Hella, called Herkules Resotec GmbH who are only assembling the LEDs, ICs etc on the PCB in a SMT line.
Could have ask them why the dynamic indicator doesn't dynamically turn off like the dynamically turn on. :D

насколько я знаю, олед в дисплеях любит выгорать при статичной картинке, в машине статика 99% времени, т.к. это габаритные огни. Интересно сколько же времени такие фары смогут прожить

Audi is at the forefront of innovation in car works these days. Earlier it was Mercedes-Benz now, then it was Lexus, BMW tried but could not get a proper success, now it's Audi

@@gr4ffe luckily more OEMs, like Volvo and Peugeot, are implementing this in (at least) Europe. I consider it a safety issue. Very often when weather is so-so, having you taillights on helps a lot in seeing other vehicles in front of you.
if you turn the headlight switch one to the right =o= it turns on the rear lights. I just have them coded to be on all the time

You need special equipment to do that, or is it a vehicle menu setting?

DMD projection device or DLP if from Texas Instruments, used in video projectors. The LED headlights evolved nicely since they’re first debut in 2006 with Lexus. My only rant about Audi and other VAG cars is that in certain conditions the turn signals are hard to see from the rear, specially in the European models with all those light shows, taking form over function in a safety critical item.

I never had LED light failure. Yet I always see cars with old halogen bulb failures
I’ve never had an LED that hasn’t failed... happened just recently with the ones in the video and my 1 year old Caddy. My daughters Rover is the same, I just got that 2020 for her and my sons 2018 mustang both front LEDs went out.

Nice features but not available in the United States due to antiquated headlight laws. Apparently with changes to the laws a software upgrade can turn on this feature. In the meantime I do look at the laser symbol inside the headlamps for what that is worth. 2021 S5 Prestige.
