Not gonna lie. This is better than any professional tv show. More interesting, more entertaining. You two are brilliant. You need more sponsorships. Everyone should be watching you.
Could not agree more... Our absolute favourites , be it in the Van ...on the road ... Home or abroad and now the Cottage ... love it , Highlight of our viewing week , the content , the professionalism is second to none , it is funny , its informative , Its a great portrayal of two perfectly matched souls on their shared journey through life . Lou & Emily long may it continue .. Seriously your guys are the VERY best - Love to you Both Graham & Joanne xx
I hope folks appreciate the total video/audio production quality of your work! The production components of this are truly outstanding…lighting, angles, framing, transitions, storytelling…top notch… and personally, when it comes to rats …I prefer heavy artillery😂
The spilt seed from your bird feeders will be a lovely snack bar for Roland and family. 😢 I'm with Emily on this one. You can't evict rats. They'll come back quicker than you can put the corrugated roof back.
Sorry girls but the answer is too send Roland and Co to ratty heaven. They don't want to leave and they invite others to join their group. Screwfix do a great kit for getting rid. We had them in our last property it was awful and they get braver the longer they stay 😮
Squeaky Emily is fast becoming my favourite of all things I watch and follow. Also, Louise's editing and general video craft are exceptionally good, which helps to make your channel so watchable. 👍
I had a problem and specialist told me to take away their food source. They were eating from the bird seeds. They suggest moving the bird feeder 150 ft away from house and no rubbish available for them from the bin. That worked for me. Good luck, love watching you gals. Your passion is awesome.
I happened on your vlog a few days ago and love, love, love it. I’ve been dying to share with you that I trained as a plumber on a women’s only course in Deptford in the mid 80s, when I was 39 having raised 3 boys. Lots of opposition at the time from then gf & colleagues who told me I was stealing jobs from the boys 😱 Went on to be a gas engineer and then tech officer. I started my career paths as a nurse back in the early 60s ( it’s all pipes innit) and now in my 78th year I’m an artist… abstract of course! I have lived in a 400 yr old cob (mud and straw) house in Devon and did lots of repairs using lime mortar and it is so lovely to work with. You’re doing a grand job. I have been spending my afternoons watching you both and cheering you on, what a fantastic pair you are. Thank you Eileen
Big shout out to Emily and Louise for stopping and talking to us on the streets today. Totally unexpected, and of course, I went into my tongue-tied mode but what a yummy surprise. Thank you, you made our day ladies. ❤️ Spider and Arlene
I like the way you don’t over dramatise the issues you are coming up against, and there’s plenty and there will be more, we’re all following because it’s a great project and you are both very engaging and honest ❤
Awesome video as usual! Lovely to see AJ moving around the cabin and playing. Squeaky Emily is the funniest! Louise your video making skills are off the charts. 👍
My neighbour in scotland has a van not unlike yours. The worst thing we found out is that modern vans have wiring insulation that is made from a soya resin. Good news is that this is very eco-friendly and works well. Bad news is that Rats, Mice, and Squirrels LOVE the flavour of this stuff, so yes, I concur with those who advise drastic measures before he discovers the van wiring loom...
Oh, do save Roland. Continue with the humane traps. I caught and relocated 14 mice. They are just trying to make their way. Just like you and your cabin, Roland has set up a comfortable nest for winter.
We’re with Lou on rescuing roly if possible. The best bait we’ve found for humane rat traps is chocolate. So any one of Emily’s chocolate snack bars should work 😁 Male rats also make nests to sleep in, one of our male pet rats actually ate the inside of a chair to make himself a nice warm nest! We don’t think you will get rid of the rats completely as you have too many holes at the moment. Summer and Martin will keep the rats down but we’ve found a couple of sonic deterrents plugged into a power socket will help to keep them out of the house. We live next door to an old cemetery so we are used to rats trying to get in the house. Hope this helps. ❤ Sandy & Thea. Happy 2025
Also, after many failed attempts to capture the rat that had made it's home in my garage I finally came over to Emily's way of thinking and invested in a battery operated shock box. If I had to kill it, it needed to be as quick as possible.... Best of luck
So pleased you had a great break as you very much deserved it. I’m an animal lover and vegan, I have had rats as pets as they are so amazing. I know the wild rats are different but I’m with you Louise, to try and catch him/her alive. Incredible with the mould spores growing in that short time. I love the way you explain things Louise, even my brain understands lol I laugh so much when you do squeaky Emily voice so funny x
Over our 12 years in our cottage that we are still renovating 😂we’ve had a few unwanted visitors and I know it’s not the preferred method but we had to use the old fashioned traps as we couldn’t collect in a humane way. Try chocolate tho as rodents love that. Also we had to stop feeding the birds as the grain they dropped attracted all sorts to our garden… another reason that Roland isn’t taking your bait ( he’s too well fed) Totally agree tho when living in older properties that need lots of work there is always a never ending list of jobs. You are doing great… 2025 will be fab! And yes AJ is the most loved pooch on UA-cam 😍
Chunky peanut butter with confectioner's sugar mixed in and a pinch of salt. Give them 3 free samples on cardboard like stepping stones and the 4th sample is in the trap. Do it over and over until they go elsewhere.
I need the speeded up Emily rants as a ringtone! 😂 Fabulous videos the filming at the beginning was especially beautiful ❤ So glad to see AJ happy and bouncung about ❤
Rats (and mice) tend to hug the walls so put humane traps in their normal route by the wall. Also they like peanut butter so bait traps with that. Good luck!
I'm hoping you all keep nice and safe in the storm that's coming. Maybe when that tin roof rattles, that will put Roland off? Or maybe he'll just fly away and end up in Scotland or Norway! Seriously, take care and wishing you all the best.
I strongly think that Roland will not be by himself. Amusing content, but even as an animal lover, I would suggest getting Pest Control in. You don’t want rats anywhere near the buildings/contents/water supply.
I love it, "we go again in 25". You two are a pair of real troopers. You should be very proud of yourselves and what you've achieved so far, and the fact you have so many dedicated followers. Well done. 👏👏 👋🇬🇧🇪🇺🇺🇦🇮🇪
@@yvonneattridge4788 Yes unfortunately Human`s and Rats cant cohabit because of disease and I believe they are inadvertently quite destructive inside somebody`s home.
So funny, and I am proud you are not going down the poison route. Are their humane rat catchers? Don't they say that we are all only a few metres away from a rat. Hope Roland decides to leave of his own accord. 🙏🐀
I used to have an old country cottage with a similar issue while in the bath there would be a rat in the loft or airing cupboard.. I did have a trap door to get up there though.. I put in 3 or 4 little plug in emitters that give off a high pitched sound.. this did the trick with no casualties 👍
One thing you could do to reduce the mountain of stone in the front, & make your garden more wildlife friendly, would be to add some kind of pond. You have the space, but it's obviously a matter of picking a low spot away from wells, septic distributions etc. I've a fairly small pond, & the amphibians love it, & so do the birds & mammals.
Rodent tip, my bud from canada uses dryer sheets in his classic cars over winter, strong smells they don't like, it's worked for my mini, might be worth a punt. We are all glad to see everyone again, we've missed ya! 😚💌
@janinedevilliers510 for tumble dryers, just looks like a cloth but scented. Bounce is a brand but others are available 😉 I also use 'unstoppables' in a tiny linen bags under my camper bonnet.
I’ve got some peppermint oil for once we get him out as that’s meant to be one they don’t like but doesn’t get rid if they are in but we will try it anyway as well
I was told that if you have rats you should stamp and shout , get a big stick to bash the wall, door or whatever. It worked for me when I got a colony under a shed🤷♀
“Save the rat”! Louise, I am with you. I save one baby mouse out of 6 in house and my husband would’ve rather put any type of trap out there to get them out. I was so proud I did that.
We had a rat and its babies living near to us, it used to go through our back garden. We had to do something about it as rat poo is very dangerous to dogs and our dog already has a compromised immune system. I didn't realise this until someone told us. Please get in pest control as others have said. Another great video and your wildlife photography is superb. Good luck with the wall coming down.
One of the best UA-cam channels imo, can see you two blowing up in 2025 and you deserve it your both flipping amazing. Can't wait to see the renovation come together it's gonna be epic with you two on the job 👍👍👍
Happy 25 ladies, had a rat last year, tried humane traps and blocking its access points, nothing. Out of frustration I put out the classic neck break traps and I kid you not it left, never triggered a trap but as soon as it knew I was after it’s life, it jogged on. Smart creatures, I begrudgingly respected it, anyway have a great year and massive love as always x
Meanwhile as the vandwellers sleep soundly, the roof lifts and Roland using thermal binocs, is studying the new shed and THE VAN. To be continued........ 👁👁👁 Sorry Emily 😉 love your build & vids.
We’ve been watching your adventures for a while now and thoroughly enjoy your videos, love squeaky Emily. Having done the NC500 in 2024, we fancy the Wild Atlantic way this year. Could you please let me know what ferry website you use when you travel back. Many thanks.
I've lived in my house for 20 years and never seen a mouse or a rat anywhere in or around my property until last summer after putting up bird feeders in my garden and suddenly saw mice on two occasions and a rat the third time. I removed the bird feeders and so did my neighbour and that seemed to do the trick as I haven't seen any mice or rats since, thankfully. I really hope you get rid of your problem as rats are not good to have around and remember contamination with rats urine can cause weil's disease which can be fatal.
A compromise is to put the bird feeders away at night, preferably in a metal rodey proof box, and bring them out again when the sun comes up. A bit of a nuisance, but better for the birds.
@@alilonghair7792 The problem is that birds are messy eaters and lots of seeds end up on the ground. That's where the mice and rats were eating the seeds not from the actual bird feeders, that's why I had to remove them entirely even though I loved seeing all the birds in my garden.
Emily and Louise you make me smile what a amazing couple you are you couldn't write this in a script ihope the Newyear holds great thing s for you girls Look forward to your new home complete god bless you both
If it gets too much, take a sunshine break. Tyler and Todd in Canada admitted that the cold and work to survive got too much for them “on the land” so they gave themselves permission to ease the pressure.
Ratticus in our loft too! Tried everything and now enticing them to the trap with liquorice Allsorts - which apparently they love! Caught 7 bigguns so far, the rest are having a party most nights above our heads while we try to sleep. Our house is 200 years old and they are probably the longest term tenants! Good luck. x
Cover the traps with a old towel & place them against the wall rats don't like anything new in their environment bait the traps but don't set them for a couple of nights they will get used to traps & free offerings so when you do set the traps you may you only catch one or two you may need a trap to catch multiple rats v simple to make yourself. Happy new year 🎉
There's nothing like arriving home from school into your mother's arms,a fire burning and the smell of food cooking.Bliss . Home big or small is were the heart is . Mad skills and dynamic duo r u. We just lost out 11 yo golden doodle and seeing AJ running around makes me happy for you all. Precious time with him. Our dog was too big to enjoy van life but he loved the woods and tolerated the van. Y’all are living your best lives - thanks for allowing us along.
Hello from Brittanny ! You two seem to be exhausted and it's not surprising with all the work you have to do. Take care of yourselves girls ! I've red many comments about Roland and indeed a melt of birds feeders and chocolate or peanut butter could be a good solution. May be Emily have to sacrified one of her chocolate snacks.😋😙 You don't want a Roland 2 comes into your van🥵 It would be maybe necessary to put the food for birds in a distance from the house and the van For the cabin some propose a dehumidificater and it could be a good help. Hope all the advice in the comments could help you. See you on sunday
I really recommend considering hempcrete for your house walls (internally) to overcome the damp & mould issues you were talking about when explaining why you don't want plasterboard and an unvented cavity. The difference it has made on my solid walls is incredible, and the bonus is they are clay plastered, which buffers humidity brilliantly.
Saw a rat in our garden before Christmas swinging on the bird feeder eating the suet in the middle of the day, stopped feeding the birds and i THINK he's gone now. But they are really crafty little b*st* ds! 😄
I'm still amazed that Emily still believes Louise's patter about space and comfort when the cabin is obviously the best way to get a 5* workshop at the earlist possible moment. Louise I really envy your shed.🤣.
Hahaha you just know that shed is gona be prestine with all Louise's tools in order stored perfectly with a no little people allowed sign on the 😂😂 door 😂
Funnily enough when building the amazing shed and putting down the floor insulation I thought to myself I hope mice don’t get in….both your work is excellent and exceptional…best wishes
Thank goodness you're back, I was getting withdrawals , I see the common consensus agrees with Emily, having experienced rural living and restoration with many wildlife visitors the only unwelcome ones were rats, you really need to eliminate. I moved from the uk years ago and the best ever piece of equipment I bought was and is a dehumidifier, would not be without one! Good job on all you've done, love to you all ❤
It’s great to see you all back and watching AJ acting like a pupster with his toy box. I hope the weather is kind to you and allows you to get on with your renovations. Have you signed up for garden bird watch at the end of January? Good luck with Ratty ❤
I had a beautiful European finch in my feeder a couple years ago I was so excited as they aren't native to north america. Learned that it was probably someone's pet which had escaped.
Irish brickie ere... 34yrs on the trowel..... We don't use Breeze Blocks in Ireland... Well i have never laid them.... We use 4in Concrete Blocks... on farms u might use 6in or maybe 9in cavity blocks
I have used a rat zapper. It’s humane because it’s fast. I got it on Amazon. Used batteries. I’m in the US though. I can’t live with rodents. Good luck. I love your channel! I’m actually starting to understand you 😊❤
Holy moly I've never been so glad to hear Louise gabble on at break neck speed. Get her done! That rat's got to go!! You two are so suited. Many thanks to both of you xoxo
13:40 -- Hey, Lou! I do believe I just heard her verify that, if you were to capture Roland and put him in a cage, she'd LOVE to keep him as a pet!!! 😂
By the way Louise, rats (and squirrels) love a bit of PVC ! I'm not sure whether they eat it and digest it, but they definitely chew it? So check your blue pvc water piping, drainage (under sink stuff) and of course your electrical cabling. I worked for a business nr. Maidstone and they unknowingly to us had great fun chewing the air conditioning pipework and cabling above the suspended ceiling. We only noticed when it was time to cool the offices down a bit. Carnage! Ceiling destroyed, lights out and paperwork on desks water logged, the carpets were not great either, water spoilt overnight. We had rats and squirrels as identified by air conditioning engineer.
Hey guys! We are doing the same as you, only with a pretty sad state of a cottage! We’ve put a caravan onsite to live in and will be out permanently (from the UK) in May. Your issues with Rolland has got us worried, as we put a big metal shed up last summer and it’s being left over winter - lots of cardboard boxes and lovely things they could use for bedding! Fingers crossed they don’t discover it! Hope you manage to evict Rolland and friends by the next video! Loving following your journey!
Wow you are both amazing - you work so hard and stay so positive despite freezing weather and rats! Definitely on Emily’s side and would call pest control. They multiply so fast! Eek! Good luck, keep going and let’s hope 2025 calms down a bit for you.
I tried everything to get a rat to go into one of them traps sausage, peanut butter peanuts but what actually worked was an Apple try cutting an apple in half and put them half of the apple in the trap Also a good idea is make the trap door so it won’t shut fix the Apple inside so that the rat gets confident going in and out of the trap then set the trap so the door will shut👌
Hello Ladies, glad you had a lovely Christmas and i`m surprised you haven`t got a de-humidifier running in your cabin as they`re ace and well worth the money. I use mine all year around as I have an internal bathroom with just an extractor fan and no external windows. I had a Rat`s nest in the compost heap at the bottom of my Garden, When I moved the compost there was at least 6 of them in there. They made their nest in the middle where it was lovely and warm in the Winter and had made a tunnel to my neighbours old fruit trees where there was lots of fallen fruit for them to eat= clever creatures.
Used to be my job ...live traps can work but you have to pre-bait them with a food you have addicted the furry little fellows to for weeks ...... chocolate raisons, peanut butter ,nutella....
We had an episode of having a Roland rat that came through to our house through the cavity walls from next door. Our next door neighbours at the time had a veg shop and they used to bring the boxes back. He was a bit of a steptoe and it looked like steptoes yard. We found that he’d been up in the loft and also getting in behind our fireplace. We brought in a pest control and they put a bait down that causes the rat to be extremely thirsty and leave your property. The rat caused over a £1000 quids worth of damage by chewing wires on our appliances. He had to go
That's poison 😂 many poisons dehydrate you and kill off the liver and kidneys. Be careful with poisons as if owls or pine martens eat poisoned animals they'll die too.
I have been worrying with you, Louise, about the wind damage to the end of your barn roof, and although abridged, I am grateful that you allowed us to see how you fixed it. Whew! That's a worry now gone. Great idea to bring the van in to stand upon! Great job all!
Re Roland, rats everywhere. They'll be back until house sealed. Use ultrasonic deterrents and secure bird feed in the meantime. We put a few paving slabs under the feeders and now can spot when the rats start coming in from the fields at the end of summer. I know there's not much difference between winter and summer in Ireland, but...

The gas fire causes huge condensation - if its 15kg bottle of gas - it produces 15kg of water - a dehumidifier should help 👍✨

He thought you were friends. Broke his little heart, you did.
Take care that you dont get rats in your vehicles, they can do a lot of expensive damage very quickly. love your channel.
Meanwhile as the vandwellers sleep soundly, the roof lifts and Roland using thermal binocs, is studying the new shed and THE VAN. To be continued........ 👁👁👁 Sorry Emily 😉 love your build & vids.
I hope you finally caught Roland 🐀
I'm always sad when your videos come to an end, but happy that there will be a live this Sunday 😃
Norway here: we also sadly had to do away with bird feeders after discovering rats outside the house🥺
Emily and Louise you make me smile what a amazing couple you are you couldn't write this in a script ihope the
Newyear holds great thing s for you girls
Look forward to your new home complete god bless you both
Good to see you back ladies 😊
If it gets too much, take a sunshine break. Tyler and Todd in Canada admitted that the cold and work to survive got too much for them “on the land” so they gave themselves permission to ease the pressure.
Absolutely love watching you two. Just so much fun.
Happy new year 🎉
This is excellent advice
There's nothing like arriving home from school into your mother's arms,a fire burning and the smell of food cooking.Bliss . Home big or small is were the heart is . Not every child has this because their parents are working so hard to make ends meet This girl will have. these memories all her life .❤❤❤❤❤❤
Mad skills and dynamic duo r u. We just lost out 11 yo golden doodle and seeing AJ running around makes me happy for you all. Precious time with him. Our dog was too big to enjoy van life but he loved the woods and tolerated the van. Y’all are living your best lives - thanks for allowing us along.
So sorry to hear that. We lost our 13 year old on New Years Eve. Thinking about you
Hello from Brittanny ! You two seem to be exhausted and it's not surprising with all the work you have to do. Take care of yourselves girls ! I've red many comments about Roland and indeed a melt of birds feeders and chocolate or peanut butter could be a good solution. May be Emily have to sacrified one of her chocolate snacks.😋😙 You don't want a Roland 2 comes into your van🥵 It would be maybe necessary to put the food for birds in a distance from the house and the van
For the cabin some propose a dehumidificater and it could be a good help.
That was hilarious, it’s too cold for screwing, and the Louise from Emily was priceless! 😂
Rats love grapes, maybe a few in the trap? Hope you both got a good rest in your cabin over Christmas x
I’ll give it ago
Always love a bit of high pitch Emily! 😆😆😆😆😆😆
Love what you guys are doing! Absolutely respect how much hard work the supposed ideal lifestyle is…no gain without pain.
I hope you are keeping safe during, this very cold weather.
No wonder I don't get any goldfinches in my garden, you girls have got them All!!
I had a beautiful European finch in my feeder a couple years ago I was so excited as they aren't native to north america. Learned that it was probably someone's pet which had escaped.
🤣 we do have a lot 🤣
Love high pitched Emily!
Great work on the cabin! love seeing AJ being a puppy again playing with his toy sin his new kennel
I’m actually starting to understand you 😊❤
Great to have you back...All the best for 2025 and thank you for your content....cheers x
Pop summer up in the bathroom ceiling
Another great video, love to watch the build, the wildlife, AJ and Summer and the banter between you both. Good stuff.
You are both absolutely wonderful 👍👍😊🏴❤️
I’m with team Emily NOW. All best, keep warm ❤️❤️
Happy new year, girls!
Apparently Snicker bars are great for rat traps. Anyone else STILL call them Marathon bars??? #old
N&Nx
Yesi still call them marathon 😅
I managed a Marathon the day after my Pacemaker… oh no… it was a Snickers !
You two are so funny. You’re my comedy relief after a long day at work.
Take care of yourselves ladies with this weather ....it's bitterly cold !!!!!
It is ain’t it 🥶
Wow you are both amazing - you work so hard and stay so positive despite freezing weather and rats! Definitely on Emily’s side and would call pest control. They multiply so fast! Eek! Good luck, keep going and let’s hope 2025 calms down a bit for you.
High pitch Emily is brilliant . Roland needs to meet his maker though !
2025 words to sip Irish coffee by...Screws, roland, inshulation, moisture ! Happy New Year!
So with you in regards to Roland, Louise! Hope it all works out for that little freelancer and you guys! 💚
Used to be my job ...live traps can work but you have to pre-bait them with a food you have addicted the furry little fellows to for weeks ...... chocolate raisons, peanut butter ,nutella....
And also it is illegal to release!.
You may as well keep the rats cause your basically telling Emily that she has too share her snacks😮😮😮😮😮😮😂😂😂😂
Good shout
Hi Emmely and Louise entertaining video, great to see you always have a smile and a laugh no matter what happens.kind regards Sean
Loved the video 📹
Happy New Year Lovely Ladies! ❤🎉
wow, you have as many goldfinches as I here in West Cork, they are eating the sunflower seeds in no time! they are sooo beautiful!
Might want to get a rat dog ! I had one and they are amazing at detecting and getting them in no time!
Oh I am with Emily I have bought some of those plug things that emit a noise to keep rodents away. Seems to work. Good luck !!
Same here
I have been worrying with you, Louise, about the wind damage to the end of your barn roof, and although abridged, I am grateful that you allowed us to see how you fixed it.
