@ I just never knew that winning had a process. I thought the process of winning was going out there and scoring more runs than the other team on that day.
@@DKPS_SteelersI don't want to hear anything from the league about competitive balance either. They've done absolutely nothing to keep the league balanced. Dodgers are outspending the pirates by 4 times the amount. How are they allowing this to happen? No other league NBA, NHL, NFL allows this much of a discrepancy.
@@thatsright4194 True, but these days one of the most entertaining aspects of MLB is listening to Yankee fans cry about being being outspent and FAs going to a different team.
Cuz the Rays don't have the passionate fanbase that Pittsburgh has. Majority of baseball fans in Tampa are Yankees fans and fans of other teams that migrated south. What "fans" are there don't really care as much as Pirates fans do. Even when the Rays are good and making the playoffs they still don't draw well. Doesn't help that they were playing in the dump that was Slopicana Field and this year are playing in the Yankees spring training ballpark but that's beside the point.
How does this guy still have his job? Signing a real player, meaning an established major leaguer, would be been the “bone” we wanted to see thrown our way. The Pirates are a case study in what NOT to do if you want to have ANY Public Relations.
They're very clearly betting all their chips on Suwinski, Hayes, and the bullpen rebounding to 2023 form. If they were already in a comfortable position roster wise, I wouldn't mind the odd gamble or 2 because even if it doesn't work out, you're ultimately still a winning team. I didn't complain when Huntington would go out on a limb at times during the 13-15 run. But they just came off another sub .500 year. If these guys don't pay off, we still suck, the season is wasted, and we kick the can down the road for another year.
seeing santander just signed with the blue jays for 5 years 90 mil... why couldn't that have been us. getting that guy and a few competent relievers would give me hope for a playoff push. the building would be full in april! it doesn't take much for the pirates fans to come out... just the bare minimum to show winning is a priority.
After this dog and pony show that was pirates fest.. still no significant signings this offseason. No right fielder barely half a first baseman.. bunch of anonymous bullpen/minor league arms… not a single notable signing.. is this the direct result of screwing telez? I really think that was a bigger deal than anyone has made out of it. Money is the bottom line and if you see someone lose out like that over four at bats.. because they were benched, why would you want to play here? I think a hard sell just got harder.
Remember he has made the pirates the worst sports team in history. That's all of sports ( baseball, basketball, football, hockey, ) out of all sports the Pittsburgh pirates under his control is the worst in the history of sports. Even worse than the old bungles. ( Cincinnati Bengals). Quit falling for his bullshit. He needs to go. Let someone in who actually wants to win.
The most egregious thing I saw come out of the weekend was the misspelling of Cutch's name on his placard. As one comment I read said, it's like leaving the H out of Pittsburgh. The man is legend among Pirate faithful, and they disrespected him and his contributions to this organization. It's a mistake that you can't make. It shows the disregard they have for the players and the fans. My question is, do you think Ben Cherington resents that Bob Nutting interfered with his roster construction and forced him to re-sign Cutch? Is there some personal animus there?
Ah, that's radio talk-show fodder, David. Doesn't mean anything. Doesn't go anywhere. Meaning the placard. I do like your Q and intend to use it. - Dejan
For as egregious as the error was, I think he handled it like a champ. I went to the ST holder Q+A on Sunday and he was openly joking about it, even Block poked some fun at it. At least we could have some fun with an honest mistake. Cutch also seems like he genuinely wants to be here, and I don't know many players that can openly make fun of their organization while also understanding his impact on the city/team.
As a long-suffering Pirate fan i feel the need to vent today. I am going to play owner and G.M, today. Looking at the Pirates right now with the young talented pitching they have a window that is wide open. They have a chance if the right decisions are made to be a contender for the next several years. In fact, i think they could own the central division for several years. If they didn't have the great starting pitching i would not even put this out there. Last week i had mentioned Santander as a possible player to pursue. I still think he would be a great pickup. I have had some time to reflect on this and the player they should really go all in on is Vlad. I know this is fantasy baseball here for sure. Let's look at this idea though. What position have the Pirates needed forever? First base. What has the Pirates lineup been missing? A big-time power hitter RBI producer. Vlad is a generational talent that doesn't come along every day. I know this would cost a lot of money but i think a player with his impact would be worth the investment. He combined with the young pitching and other solid players the Pirates already have i think would make a formidable team. Having a championship caliber team for the next several years would generate a lot of revenue and excitement in the city. Remember the Bucs in those couple of playoff runs it was a magical time. In order to make money you do have to spend and invest money. Come on Bob and Ben make this happen we as fans deserve it! Sorry for venting.
I thought Ben cared about winning but was terrible at his job. Now I know for sure that winning is not a priority. This offseason and Pirates Fest have shown me the hard truth.
They'll cancel Pirates fest after this. That's the takeway the Pirates organization will have. Not that they need to spend much more to be competitive.

DK how can they continue to foot stomp these same narratives about process when it is so clear that a process of internal development could NEVER compete with the dodgers? Baseball will die if a salary cap and floor are not implemented in the next CBA
BC is limited by the organization's profitability goals. The lowest salary in the division and one of the highest profits. That's what makes the world go round for them. I think it was Forbes that listed them as making $50M last year.
Someone should ask the Pirates management why they didn't show the Pirates pitchers the Roger Beshens Football Slider to other pitchers after Roger Beshens taught Glasnow, Musgrove, Taillon, Kuhl, Crick, Trevor Williams in May 2018. Roger Beshens taught the Football Slider to Strom in May 2024 in the Dbacks clubhouse, he just posted pictures on his twitter and blue sky of him showing Strom and also a video of Beshens Strom Lovullo talking the Football Slider! Ask then is that why the Pirates have struggled so much! Watch their faces turn white.
What’s the difference. With the structure of baseball and how and who signs free agents there are only maybe 8 teams that will always win. I think they should have a ceremony when the Pirates go to Los Angeles and the Dodgers have Skeens fitted for a uniform this year so they can sign them in five years. I’m sure the Yankees did a fitting on skins last year when the Pirates were there. They’re killing the game.
