Fantastic to see your tutorials are back Rob, they are simply the best on the web. Thanks from Wales.
Thanks, Bob. Good to see you again.
Thanks a lot, Rob. That helped me with something I did not understand at all. Stay safe and continue the good work.
Thanks. Glad to help.
Thanks Rob! Keep going with this kind of tutorial, please. Very helpful indeed.
Thanks.
The only drawback with the noise reduction on is that a long exposure photo takes a double amount of the time. But it has very clear in your tutorial the advantage of using it.
Yes, it works great. My solution to long exposures is to bring 2 cameras.
You are a genius! I will now turn back on noise reduction/black frame for my long exposure RAW's!
Thanks. It's the best method I know of.
Excellent, Rob. Simple and easy to understand. I love your vids. Thanks a bunch for them.
Thanks, Oto! Always good to hear from you.
Thank you so much ! It is so clear when you explain this ! I also discovered that long exposure might bring to hot pixels. And the camera needs to perform a pixel mapping to get rid of them. I was supper worried when I saw that on my brand new M1MIII 😅.
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful and entertaining. Your explanations are easy to understand. Thanks so much. I have learned a lot from you
Thanks! I try.
I just bought a new OM1. Is the information in this video also applicable to the OM11? MY assumption is yes, but wanted to double check. Thank you,
Congrats on your new OM-1! Yes, it's the same.
Hi I would like to ask when was last time you sit around this dinning table with your friend or with family members? My question goes to all readers, are we living isolated lifes?
We are definitely living isolated lives. We must stay the course, especially here in the States.
I actually never used it other than for some tutorials. My Dad gave me the table, otherwise I'd use the space for something else. I'm single no kids, so don't need a table like that.
thank you for your videos. I have an OMD1 Mark II & III. Why is my noise reduction filtered out, so that I can't change it from off?
Hi. Some modes on the camera will gray out the noise filter setting such as ART, iAuto, SCN. Try changing your mode dial to a photo mode like P,A,S, or M. Let me know if that worked. -Rob
wow your ending outro. how long did you spend editing that
It was easy. All done in camera. I made a video on it. ua-cam.com/video/NCvIhUvBgK4/v-deo.html
That was a great ending glad I stayed for it.
Thanks. Just having some fun.
Rob you are helpful, and having too much fun in the post tutorial segment.
Thanks, Michael.
Hi, Rob. I'm using an Olympus 75-300 zoom and getting noise that is nothing like you're describing here. It's as if you are looking at something under a microscope, most noticeable on the skin. The noise is weird, with little shapes. During processing and zooming in they are very pronounced and the photo can't be used. (JPEGs) Can this be eliminated? Thanks!!!
You might be describing jpg artifacts. Make sure your image quality setting is set to L-SF for jpg. Turn Noise Filter to "Low" or "Off".
@@RobTrek Thanks, Rob. It's good now!
Looking forward to this series. Your tutorials are what I look forward to the most.
Thanks, Mark. I have a few more lined up.
You should do a video about stop motion, like at the end of this video..it is so cool...
Thanks. I did actually: ua-cam.com/video/NCvIhUvBgK4/v-deo.html
I'm new to all of this and trying to figure out this old olympus camera. Can all of this be done in Lightroom better than the camera can do it?
You can certainly do better using Lightroom vs. the in-camera Noise Filter. The other setting - Noise Reduction function is different and can not be duplicated in software. You only really use the Noise Reduction feature for long exposures and then you can further reduce noise using Lightroom.
@@RobTrek Cool, thanks for the quick reply and great videos!
Very informative, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Why Om systems has not made you a job offer is a mystery to me
Thanks. It's no big deal. I'm content with helping people on youtube.
That was really helpful. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi, Rob. Is the image quality b/w em10 ii and Olympus pen epl8 is the same ( low light, dynamic range etc)
Yes. No difference at all.
Learn & fun together in short but sweet tutorial. Thank you Rob to restart the tutorial series as it is going to make is better Olympus photographers. About Noise Reduction, I have learnt that when set to AUTO (camera default), noise reduction is auto performed for 1/2 sec and above duration shots.
Thanks, Vaibhav.
Hi Rob, thank you again for this video. You are great help. I just bought the em10 mark ii. One of the reason I bought is because there is a good teacher like you on Olympus cameras. Your tutorials is godsend. Keep up the good work and God bless you. There is no in depth guide like you for Olympus cameras anywhere I can find so far in UA-cam.
Thanks, Joshua. Be sure to check out Olympus tips from Peter Forsgard, Robin Wong, and Jimmy Cheng.
I wish all the camera brands offered noise reduction options in camera that only targeted color noise at different extremes while leaving the luminous noise alone. I think it’s something that Fuji comes closer to, that many of their users like without necessarily recognizing it.
That's an interesting idea. Noise filter off should mean OFF. Setting it to LOW could be a good place to start with color noise only before adding any other kind of noise reduction.
Very good explained.
Glad it was helpful!
You need to boost your volume
Thanks! I'll pay more attention to the sound output. I think I'm turning some dials wrong on the compressor.
Very clear, thank´s
Glad it helped!
Thank you for this great video again. They always help understanding so much.
Happy to help!
Another very informative tutorial Rob. Thanks so much for your time doing these. You’re number one on my list for education on Olympus equipment and photography in general. Best wishes Jeff, Horsham, UK.
Thanks, again. I try.
By the way, I noticed than noise reduction during long exposures doesn't work with silent shutter
Thanks for pointing that out. I should have mentioned that. Yes, silent shutter disables the mechanical shutter so the camera stays silent.
REALLY HELPFUL - Thank you again for explaining these features. One thing though -- your dining room at 15 minutes exposure? Yipes! Did you mean 15 seconds?
Yes, 15 minutes! Not seconds. The light you see is mostly from the cars driving by. I live on a busy street.
@@RobTrek Thanks for reply! Well, all I have to say is Wow! So it was really REALLY dark.
Thanks Rob for your clear explanation of how the two noise features work. I certainly learned something helpful today! Please keep up your good work!
Thanks, Gilbert.
Fantastic video and info Rob,very impressive.Love the end of your video round the tree, very funny lol.
Thanks 👍
Very useful Rob, thank you! Greetings from morocco
Thanks!
Very useful 🥰 thank you. Also laughing a lot with my kid watching the ending part
Thanks, Miki. The ending is easy to do: ua-cam.com/video/NCvIhUvBgK4/v-deo.html
wow! Brilliant!
Many thanks!
Thanks a lot for this clarification. Useful and concise as always...
Glad it was helpful!
compliments
Thanks.
Thanks a lot, now I had a better understanding about these two noise handling. Is that really 15 minutes exposure of your dining photo? Did you use filter to took the photo?
Thanks. No, just took the picture at night. The lights you see are from cars driving by the front of my house. I live on a major road.
@@RobTrek Wow, thanks again for the information.
Super!😍👌👏
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for the explenation, finaly I realy understand the noise settings 😊
You are welcome!
Thank's! That was very helpfull, indeed! 👍
Thanks, Rabert!
Hi Bob, what is your recommendation on noise reduction, turn it auto or turn it on ? Appreciate your advice
Hi. Auto is best. Thanks.
Thank you Bob
You explained further than the camera manual, thanks for that Rob.
Thanks. I try.
@@RobTrek Sorry Rob, that may have come across rather more understated than I intended. It was *very* useful.
Another useful tutorial Rob thx
Thanks, again!
great vid bud
Thanks, Harry.
