  • The Sonoran Desert Toad is endemic to the Sonoran Desert. It is also the only animal that naturally produces 5-meO-DMT in large quantities. Once plentiful in the region, the herpetological community is worried that it could now be overly exploited for the psychedelic substance it produces.

@@FilthUD I would rather try dmt but I don't know the laws out there if I take a 8th of shroom it's a whole day thing .I rather be there instantaneously and I'm back to normal in 5 to 20 minutes with dmt . I can't wait till they decriminalizes so I can walk into a dispensary and pick up a vape of Dmt I've done shroom b4 micro dosing is okay .

Had a storm today n saw 3 in the road so I took them to the nearby lake. I agree I'm just trying to keep them alive for the next generation. So that the people after me can enjoy them just like I do Today. I'm not looking for psychedelics just trying to maintain my habit.

Thank you for bringing this to light. Being native to these lands, you do wanna harness the connection to our ancestors and still leave behind enough for the next generation.
If you do happen to run into this toad and you happen to take the substance or you both go along with your lives… respect the toad and it shall respect you.

This problem could be solved by not making it illegal. If there were regulations like with fishing, say only allowing the stuff to be collected on the spot and requiring the toads to be returned, most people wouldn't bother taking them somewhere private to milk. First of all, making DMT illegal is an absurd move. Its not addictive, it has shown its potential to treat addiction and depression, and 5 Meo DMT is short lived, so there is no reason to make it illegal.

Can their secretion be absorbed into human skin? I ask because I've moved to an area with a healthy population and feel it necessary to relocate them off the road during this upcoming Monsoon season. Carrying gloves is also an option if needed.
Cool video. The Sonoran Desert, Red-spotted and Couch's Spadefoot Toads are beauties of the desert.

Having a lake nearby I grabbed a bucket n put some collected rain water in it n took them to the lake. Hopefully they burrow before the fall cold catches hold here in Arizona . Just before I released them I'm sitting there talking to them wishing them good health petting them. Lol Life so precious

5 meo-dmt only comes from living things or things that were once living, unless synthesized. So no it can't be sourced from something other than a living thing unless you own a lab and synthesize it from another chemical.

Bufo secretions are used in Mexico by medicine men for spiritual purposes where it's legal. Does it really matter there's no information on past indigenous use? Does that negate current spiritual practices?
I'm disappointed there was no mention on how 5-MeO-DMT is being studied to treat depression, anxiety disorders, addiction, and ptsd or how it is used legally in mexico in ceremonies to treat these disorders. It's completely ok for us to live in a world where we abuse/kill animals for food but its not ok to milk a toad (which does not kill it) for a substance that can significantly help in treating multiple mental health disorders?
There are other alkaloids found in the toad secretions that distinguish it from synthetic 5-MeO-DMT. This toad is not a protected species and it is legal to catch up to 10 for hunting/fishing purposes in the state of Arizona with a valid license. I'm not encouraging people in Arizona to collect this substance because it is a schedule I controlled substance and it is illegal. In Mexico, it however is legal and there are conservation efforts happening in private sanctuaries that have been successful at increasing the population.
Basing a species's population decline on locations in Tucson does not give you an actual look on what's going on with the population as a whole. There is far more precipitation in Mexico than Southern Arizona and thus more toads. Also it is impossible to determine the true impact of climate change, pollution and land development. Lastly this toad has brought vitality and economic income to the Seri Community of Puenta Chueca. They look at this toad as sacred.

Transcendental experience ?! Like interfacing with what can only be referred to as “god “ for lack of a better word . I would even go so far as suggesting that it’s might be the ultimate human experience . it can traumatic for some who go into it unprepared, no one is really prepared at their first experience . As astounding and beautiful as it may be it can be a lot to manage . It’s like finding truth and realizing you don’t live in a culture that even knows what truth is . I suggest caution and education and community before engaging such a molecule .
