  • A play on London’s West End called “Slave” starring Game of Throne’s Kit Harrington has reserved multiple “blackout” performances where only black people are allowed in. The director says it's to protect them from the “White Gaze.” Yes, I’m serious. Let’s talk about it.

My mother is 84 years old, we often watch this program together. She told me a story about how my father was brutally beaten for trying to make a delivery to one of the local restaurants in the town that they grew up in. All because he used the front door to find the owner. She said that she remembers a time where there were signs depicting whites only. As minorities we, (regardless of what shade your skin is), have fought to overthrow the tyranny of racism. My mother said in those days the white people believed that it was their right and privilege to be separated from us minorities. If we start saying the same thing about white people we are no better. Nowadays we have something called black privilege that follows the same negative social construct as white privilege. It had no place back then and it has no place now! Grow up America.

I met a old woman who lived in the south in Georgia during that time period. She told me a story about a black woman who refused to move from her bus seat before Rosa Parks.
The black woman was a nurse who had obviously just had a long shift and wanted to stay off her feet. She got on the bus, sat in the second row and stuck a sign in the seat in front of her. How it worked was the white person who got on took the sign and put it in the seat behind them and blacks would sit behind that sign. Well a white man got on the bus. She glared daggers at him. The man refused to cross the sign because whites weren't supposed to sit behind blacks. More white men got on. They all shuffled their feet and looked nervous as they were held back by the sign and the black female nurse staring them down. I think it showed people in majority didn't want to fight back then. They just wanted to follow the rules and live in peace.
What was bizarre is she told me she told the same story to another young woman who got angry and said "that's not true." Baffled me some people refuse to believe the people who lived it

Um let me get this straight, he wants to do segregation as long as it is done by them and not by someone else? I’m confused….. I feel bad for all those people who lost their lives so that future generations didn’t have to live that way but yet they want to reverse all their work so they can have something.

Hhh I will tell you why they are ok with it, cause even if there's segregation it's not the black loosing out , now it's us who have to be careful of how to talk to them and talk about them , they can use ressources provided / made by white people but White people can only help them create or use never ask anything in return. They made use of the white woke stupidity that believe that we are inferior devils that should live below others without looking at what others did and if they really are the only victims in history. They found a way to use 1st word ressources for free and without having to do anything to fixe their home countries problems to live a good life , just travel to developed countries and be a crybully and voilà ! Your a superior without having to do anything. Sorry for my crappy English and rant , wish an excellent night

You know, the last time I was at the theater, I seem to remember that the house lights are turned way down during the performance. That being said, it would have been very difficult to discern the color of the person sitting next to me. This is another case of the pendulum swinging back too far.

This is so true! And it’s an amazing thing. I live in London and I’m gay and just today at work a Muslim boy said to me “you know I’ve never met a gay person before I started working here” and I was able to explain to him all about how I feel. It’s opening people up to others to be a mix of different people. That’s how we end things like racism, homophobia etc. We come together, not apart! This is what our history fought for. It’s unbelievable.

I went through segregation in TWO Southern states back in 1968. The school that was close enough to walk to was exchanged for one 20 min. bus ride away. At first I was in the 7th grade & saw my best friends sister wearing a winter floor-length coat in May. I asked why & she said, "Because the black boys will reach up the girl's shirts, especially on the stairs & try to rip our panties." She said when she complained to the new black asst. principle, he told her, "They jes tryin' to make friends, that's all. YOU need to try to get to know black folks & stop bein' so prejudice!" It was like 7 hours of fucking play time for the black kids because, even back then they knew nothing would happen to them. They had a black asst. principle watching their back & counselors who would be quick to shift the blame to White kids. So, we basically just kept out heads down & locked up everything we didn't want stolen. It was the same story in both states.

Somehow we moved away from a time of enforced Segregation, and are now entering a time of voluntary Segregation. Strange, Because, what ever way you look at it, it's Segregation.
There is a saying that seems very apropos - "Those who do not learn from the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them".
Why are some people trying to turn back the clock to a time people literally fought, bleed, and even died, to change?
You are right. This is not progress. This is not moving forward as a society. And it is doing absolutely nothing to unite people. And far from easing racial tensions this, and so many other things I see these days - seem designed to inflame them. Hatred, prejudice, and intolerance seem to be growing every day.
    I just don't understand it.
