I'll tell you what, I've been a serious photographer since the mid sixties and in all those years, I've never seen a review with so much enthusiasm about a camera ... period. I have a room full of equipment of both today and yesteryear, and I don't have one Sony RX100, of any generation. Based on what I just witnessed here, that is an omission I'll have to correct post haste. Another little tidbit I can take from this, if I ever need someone to sell something for me, you will be my very first choice to do so. Excellent video on several levels and I'm now a sub, I'm looking forward to browsing through your existing catalogue as well as anything that may be forth coming. Cheers!
I can only confirm. BTW, my best selling stock foto was taken on a walk on Fuerteventura Island with my Sony RX100 III which I had with me in my pocket - while my Nikon D810 was in the hotel safe.
I'm just getting into this field and I'm 56 years old. Been binge watching everything about camera's and you are the most information with consistency, THUMBS UP
Love my RX100 (Mk iV) BUT BEWARE - I accidentally toasted the 'board in mine charging it from a 5V USb Charger - Sony Intnl phone support told me (get this) you are advised to only charge this camera from a Laptop / Computer USB port.." - yep suprised the sh*t outta me never heard of such a thing - so anyway, YMMV but no matter I will pay the $300-400 to get mine repaired as it is a killer little camera. Apart from the former my only gripe would be the size is SO small that it can be a bit fumble-y to hold. All things considered though, I still love it and the optics are gorgeous ...
Guess how old he is. He’s doing something right! Scoobie snacks and all. Living on a golf course in what looks like Hawaii and his wife! Vegans both of them.
I have three camera's. Well, more, but three I use. A Canon EOS 5D MkIII for professional shoots, a Fujifilm X-Pro1 for when I go out and know I will take photographs. And then I wanted a small camera I can take with me wherever I go. It had to be good quality, but fit in my pocket easily. So, I got myself a second hand RX100 (mark 1). And it's fabulous, love it. Own it for about a year now, and always have it on me. Image quality is great. I almost always use it for photographes, but also the occasional video I shoot with it comes out great. And it looks cute :)
The Sony RX100vii just exploded on eBay! I've heard about them, but nobody has ever gotten that excited about it or mentioned that many features. Thanks for another great video!
My little beast (Sony RX100 VII) arrived just today, ordered after having watched your comparision video with the latest Canon XF-605 professional camcorder. From first video test shots at poor light blew me away. Yes, Swiss Army Knife is the right term.
I'm used to seeing the RX100 being used up close and wide on "run and gun" vlog shoots, so it's really cool to see the picture it puts out a little further back and zoomed all the way in. Super impressive! Thanks for continuing to put out such great videos, Markus!
I still use my Nikon Coolpix P7100 as my "grab n go" camera! Not REALLY "Pocket" size and I can't swing the screen all the way for "selfies" (That's OK, because NO ONE asks to see MY face, LOL.) But it DOES have MIC input!
I have one, its good, dont pay alot for it if you want to get one, I got mine from Japan from a second hand seller for a good deal, don't pay the "collectors price" on ebay, its not worth it, fun camera to have.
I have a Sony Handycam that I bought ten years ago. I paid about $1800 for it and if I sold it now I would probably get $20 for it. I have even tried to give it away and believe it or not the person I offered it to rejected it. I should pull it out and see what can be done with it :)
It is a great camera. Good tips on cheaper alternatives and on shooting to get nice blurry backgrounds. I just recently got a cheap used RX100 M1. It doesn't have a mike jack, viewfinder, Wi-Fi, flippy screen, ND filter, or long range zoom lens or as fast of a lens. But, it's still a great camera that shoots decent video with full manual controls and raw image ability.
LMAO I'm grabbing a pen to write down the models to see what I can find for sale used and you pop up and say you're not giving one away. Lol.. I always watch to the end. Do you have a comparison video on different models of the RX 100?
So glad I found your channel! Love your videos-even the ones that aren’t full on tutorials are packed with info and your style is so friendly with great examples! I really appreciate all the work and care you put into these.
Markus, what do you think about the Lumix LX100 with the micro 4/3rds sensor? Is the camera too big in comparison to the other cameras you showed us here?
That's not a pocket camera, its pretty big, heavy, pitiful 3x zoom, fixed screen that doesn't flip out, etc etc. The smallest MFT cameras are I these ua-cam.com/video/vj2eji4ms5A/v-deo.html but they aren't really pocket cameras.
I bought a Sony RX100 Mark 7 a couple of months ago and it's amazing. Perfect for all the photography and video needs for doing UA-cam. Thanks for the recommendation! The auto-focus is amazing for doing video. It tracks your eyes and never needs to do an abrupt refocus in the middle of a shoot.
Another more serious camera is its big brother...the Sony rx10mk4....it’s bigger, but even better. Check out the specs. Been my go to camera for years...love it!

Great video, awesome energy. Your enthusiasm for photography jumps thru the screen! People love people who love what they do and your love of photography and cameras shows. Makes me want to be a better videographer. Thanks for doing this.
Love your videos! I wish I had the money for that RX100mVII! Another option that's similar to the LX10 is the Sony RX100mIII. It's about $100 more than the Panasonic, but it's a fantastic camera -- it has better autofocus, an EVF, and a built-in an ND filter.
Great Video! I'll put it on My Wish List! I'm going to look closely at The Lumix GX850 and The Samsung NX500 too! Thanks for all your advice! God Speed to you and Cara!
my first digital camera was Minolta Dimage A2, so a bridge camera, not a small compact, nonetheless it had the capability to record movies at 30fps in 540x408 resolution, and a 28-200mm eq zoom lens with f/3.5 at the tele end. Also, a 2/3" sensor - tiny today, but still bigger than most compacts in 2004. So I was blown away back then in 2004 by the "cinematographic" quality of the footage at times when I used that zoom. Unfortunately the camera started heating up too much during movie recording and began turning off after shorter and shorter times. Even when I switched to mere 15fps to reduce the stress on the electronics, I could only get around 3 minutes of footage at a time. Oh well.
The slow motion feature is sick and mindbogling ! I remember during one video production cameraman brought bulky expensive camera to get slo-mo and now you can get it from the pocket camera!
He is right, its so convenient and easy to carry, and it produces some really really good quality images and videos everything about it is really good except just one thing, it fricking sucks in low light its so bad in low light, if you font care about low light bad quality, than just go for it, its super high quality😊
Thanks for the recommendations for alternative cameras. I've always wanted the RX100 but it's just too expensive for occasional use. I'll probably be getting the Canon Sx740 to replace my very old Olympus Stylus Tough 6000
lol I am replacing my rx100 with olympus tough. I dropped my rx100 and it stopped working. As I am hiking a lot, cycling, traveling, I find sony to be too sensitive to be obtainable
@@umapuma way to go with the Olympus tough, I have really beat up T2 was my work camera for onsite engineering stuff before I retired, damaged case, even dunked in oil, still works fine, f2, image stability, gps, great pics and 1080p vid only down side poor audio and no ex mic, retired it now for vid as audio become distorted, iPhone 4s now for vid, don’t knock old equip, good enough is good enough. Next an action cam for everything, I travel hard so stuff has to be tough.
This is one I started watching before and the thing that knocked me out is how incredibly focused that is. I've noticed what you mentioned about the backgrounds "seeming" green screen but your lighting is just awesome and you know how to make it beautiful.
So I'm also able to get a blurred background with the Zuiko 12-100 f4 lens. At 100mm it is actually 200mm and f8. I keep wondering about this lens because it has a very long range in the field of view and can focus from 1.5cm. I have several MFT lenses, but I want something versatile that I will use 99% of the time.
So refreshing to see a professional recommending and enjoying low level equipment that us mere morals are likely to purchase. I’m so tired of being told I have to drop $4000 on full frame with lenses to get decent photos. Thank you.
I was already looking for a nice sizable camera... don't always want to bring my dslr... have also a canon m... is already smaller but this is a great option! Thanks for the informative content, and nice to watch... great!
The beating heart of this excellent camera is the 1" sensor. For the last 3 years I've used it in the RX10 (M3, then M4), and all I can say is quote my retoucher (I'm not good enough at it, so she handles this task), a top professional who's working for major brands in the luxury and fashion world : "All images very well done, nice pictures, well done technically, not much color/exposure correction to do... [etc.]". All cameras designed around this sensor can't go wrong, especially with the last BSI-CMOS generation. I can't wait for the M5 ! Of course the RX10 is way bigger, but it allows more things towards the professional end of the spectrum, and that's what I use it for. But I'm starting to consider adding a lighter/smaller camera, for "emergencies" or 2nd angle option, and your demo could seize my choice. Thank you !
Shooting time is the only downer. Even if it doesn't overheat, 15 minutes of 4K video will empty the battery. Now I carry a powerbank and I practice my scripts BEFORE I hit the record button!
Give away? How about giving away GREAT ADVICE?!!! - Done! Love this video. I was gonna say for budget versions folks, try Lumix cameras eg ZS series. Then “bam” you mentioned Lumix! They don’t have ALL these features but a pocket travel ZOOM of 20x or more is soooo useful for the reasons you point out here. Easy to get background blur, not to mention the zoom is useful for travel. Not only does the technique outlined here give you a great blur, but COMPRESSION: where that tree looks beautiful as a big background backdrop whereas without the zoom not only is there less blur, but the tree looks smaller, less of a mood set, boring etc.The COMPRESSION you get by effectively bringing the background up big and closer feeling just makes for a great mood setting in pictures and video. I still use my zs30 (super old lumix) a LOT cuz I just LOVE it, for the same reasons above. Oh and 3:05 Markus...my favorite beach! I know exactly where that is! 😍😍😍
My question would be "where's the power button and can I turn it on with the same hand that's whipping it out of my pocket as the picture is taking shape in front of me?"
I am a drone "pilot" and this camera sounds exactly what I am looking for, Real Estate interior shooting and everything else! Awesome and thank you point this one out!
Wow!! Beautiful cameras Markus my farther was very interested in photography, you know when their was no colour then but he use to develop his own pictures, he was so magical, your very magical yourself knowing all the amazing cameras that are around, plus I’m not surprised you only take Cara’s pictures she’s so gorgeous and smart like you, many thanks Markus for your demonstration and making the super video on cameras may the best person win one of your cameras to, love to you both💕💕🥰🥰🌺🌺
Hey Markus, first I just thought who is that guy?? I also dont need that giveaway. Thank you for the hint with the Lumix Lx10. I looked after a ZV1 for photo and video shooting as the rx100vii is too expensive for me as a student in Germany. And I never have considered something else as Sony Rx100 or ZV1. Bye 😊👍
Every one of your videos I watch, the first thing i think is: man, his videos look the best of any video on youtube and maybe anywhere else. The content is awesome too
Sony. Competed with Panasonic for HD movies on disc. Blu-Ray won. Sony pushed the mini-disc even after the audio reviews panned the sound. It worked. Sony TV's. Famous going back to the Trinitron days. Sony portable cassette recorders with Dolby C. Very popular. Sony Super Audio discs. Outstanding. Playstation. Sony headphones, first class bargains. But for some odd reason, they were never known for..... speakers.
Call me Psychic Markus but I'm getting the strong impression that you really like this camera. Even though your video introducing this camera to us was a little low key, as you downplayed its abilities. It did in a small way convey a message that you like the camera and it seems you have used it on occasion. It's nice to have something like this camera demonstrated and its features shown by someone like yourself who does it in such a calm way. I'm glad you didn't get all out of control and excited about it and constantly repeat yourself, like I see other people do. LOL
I have a set of four cams...CX900s and AX100 that has the same sensors and prosessors as the RX100s...but better optics...the thing that shied me away from RX100s was the 30 minute files...which dont work for concerts lasting 2 hours...but I wish I could use them onstage...
Its sad people actually think by watching your video they will get something for free. love your videos, love your positive vibes, and keep up the great content!!!
This what I need for food close up filming. You are so amazing. I lost sleep for weeks now over cameras and lenses. I need to replace my g7x. G7x iii not up to standard of what I want. Zv1 stabilizer is off. Now I am at DC G-95. Panasonic. And this one looks promising. It’s so personal when it comes to cameras. Everyone wants different results. So it’s hard to find right reviews. Thank you 🙏
Great straight to the point vid. Not many vids out there on the compact ranges of camera’s. It’s like they are forgotten now. For the very reasons you mentioned I think they do have a spot for a lot of people. Phones only do so much, and I have a full frame and micro 4/3rds system which I love. Given how small 4/3rds is it can still be to big as a pocket rocket camera. So trying to find a good small super zoom to fit the bill is hard . LUMIX, Sony , or canon it’s a tough call. As an oldie I like the viewfinder even if it’s shit. It’s always better than not having one. Screens on everything are shit, you can’t see them in sunlight properly that includes phones . To snap and hope there ok. But when you need to frame it properly there is no substitute.
Hey, Markus. I've found the first edition of this camera within my price range for a first camera. Does that have similar features to the one you now use? Just using it for YT stuff :-)
Markus, this is an awesome video. There is one thing that I'd make a little more clear for newbies with your overall recommendation. When you mention the LX10, I wish that you would note the big caveat which is the poor video focusing of the whole line of lumix cameras. I have a G7 and GX85 and used them for years for 4k video and I'd never ever shoot video auto-focus with them. If you are targeting newbies, I think it would be fair and very important to mention that they would need to learn how to work around this limitation with the Panasonic cameras. I know you don't want to get too far in the weeds with these kind of videos though. Thanks again! Thumbs up as always.
Thank you for putting this info out in THIS WAY. I have spent so much ATTEMPTING TO dongle the hell out of tech I don't think breathes the same air as anything I need only to find myself never able to throw in for the right camera right now and it's not because I can't budget or wait or I don't value a good investment, I just couldn't decode which camera was just going to show me the picture I wanted to see for on the go inspired content that I either can't find in the haystack of my Google photos cloud or don't have the mental strength to help the digital media take the 4 trains 2 buses a taxi and still have to jog three blocks to reach my editing software, by that time, the vision of my smoothly weaved presentation looks like what they served at the culmination of the summer cooking class at the local community center where, and this is not a judgement the way it sounds but a statement about the fact that I want people to want to join the next class because retired school teacher Gloria knocked everyone's socks off when not only did her blueberry cobbler create some real buzz, but everyone who followed along nailed the recipe in their own kitchen because they didn't have to wade through crazy conversations with animals in the room instead of the person looking to learn something new they could actually use or figure out if they are missing an important step while trying to guess when to stop fast forwarding because the already bad lighting was made worse by profuse apologies about why you will just have to take her word for the fact that those berries are bright purple, and that crust is so golden and flaky crumbs are jumping everywhere right now only to get to the end of 12 minutes you WILL NEVER GET BACK TO SAY.... and there you have it, my easy 3 step way to bake up your own piece of Americana!!! Do you feel my pain lol? I haven't been able to be confident enough about WHAT CAMERA WOULD NOT DISAPPOINT ME, because those fancy specs are wasted on my skill level...I just wanted blurry trees and the lights on. Thank you...... and thank you for giving stuff away you are doing something really kind and meaningful to someone who might really need the gift right now. I'm coming to your classes from now on no matter what you got cookin' :)

Thanks for the informative content, and nice to watch... great!
I just love when the small things are working great. Thank you for also showing cheaper cameras.
Great content. Your setting isn't so practical ha ha ha..
This camera falls down only once ... then it is broken. I know what I am talking about.
Corona Virus Right. Best of luck to anyone unfortunate enough to try to avail themselves of their warranty service.
If Panasonic made it, I love it 😊
I second that about the Lumix. Very versatile camera with an awesome lens.
Yes I have been a HUGE fan of this camera for years now!
My question would be "where's the power button and can I turn it on with the same hand that's whipping it out of my pocket as the picture is taking shape in front of me?"
yes
What do you think of using iphones?
I am a drone "pilot" and this camera sounds exactly what I am looking for, Real Estate interior shooting and everything else! Awesome and thank you point this one out!
Hi Markus,... and what about battery life? 🤔
not that long, so I always have another battery along, a small price to pay for a having such a very small camera the size of a deck of cards.
Bye 😊👍
The sony rx100 is really great
Every one of your videos I watch, the first thing i think is: man, his videos look the best of any video on youtube and maybe anywhere else.
Your viewers are spoiled with the giveaways!... awesome tease... you are keeping them spoiled!
Love your content!! I loved all your lens/camera comparison. Thanks for showing your setup! You have the best videos about pocketable cameras.
This is the camera I keep in my car, so I agree. I have a lumix sitting next to me and yes I like it as well, but not as good as the RX100.
wait till people see the price 😂, i think the new ZV1 is much more a bang for the buck for video.
This guy is the steriotipical defenition of an American. Also the lighting looks like it comes sraight from a 90's MTV show. HAHAHA
Its sad people actually think by watching your video they will get something for free. love your videos, love your positive vibes, and keep up the great content!!!
Great video Markus. I've been recommending the RX series forever now for people looking for a lightweight do it all camera. Keep up the good work man!
Appreciate your information on the Sony RX100s. I will use my Sony RX100 VA much more now!!!
Thank you 🙏
Yes this is what I use for most of my quick-grab-a-camera for food pics
Hi! i have the rx100 mk1 and it is still amazing so i can imagine how good is the mk 7!!
You make photography FUN. Why do so many people make it hard work. Welcome to Marcus world.
