One thing I like about Heavy Barrel is that specific item boxes always have the same items. So if you can memorize where the extra lives are, it helps to get through the game.
Gyrus is more a spiritual kin to Tempest than to vertical or horizontal scrolling shooters. It's awesome but definitely a different feel than most shooters.
I have a pirate multicart with a game called Chip and Dale 3, turned out it was a sprite swap of heavy barrel with the playable characters as teddy bear looking versions of chip and dale
@@oaf-77 Sounds hilarious. You know, mama always said life was like a Nintendo Entertainment System pirated multi-cartridge. You never know what you're going to get.
Sone of the arcade cabinets for Trog were 4 player & it eas such a blast to get 4 player frenzied action going back in the day! Trog is like dino Pac-Man with power ups!
@@PlayasGuide first one I recall was in a bowling alley in Florida. No one was playing it at first & my initial impression was it looked like a Pac-Man clone on a cramped board who's visuals were the only plus. But my then girlfriend & I decided to play...soon others dropped in. Several hours & probably $30 later (early 90s money) we were hooked!
Little Nemo got plenty of hype too. Nintendo Power was all over it. It had it's own commercial. And it's a fantastic game. A classic even. All this and it still wasn't all too successful.
I like Heavy Barrel. The Shoot 'em ups and rail shooters are 2 of my favorite genre's on NES. I love Gun Nac, Gyruss, Jackel, Gun Smoke, Zanac, Punisher, Operation Wolf, and Mechanized attack. I also recently discovered a great game on Famicom called Crisis Force.
I grew up with Rollergames and Little Nemo in my collection, and they have always been favorites! I was able to pick up Crystalis last year at a great price. For some reason I always thought that one got pricey as time went on. I was surprised to see the affordable price tag!
@@PlayasGuide What's wild is that, aside from a handful of exceptions, all my NES games were "shared" carts between me and my cousins. Eventually, they just left them all with me and they stayed with me. I still have all of them, and have added many of my own purchases since then.
Crystalis is SO GOOD! Same with Roller Games. So much fun. Also the algorithm suggested your channel and its dope. New sub bro. Keep up the great work!
Hey John, thanks for the sub. This channel is fairly small but I've been making videos like this for awhile. There might be something else on here you might find interesting.
7:04 Actually, it's not based on an "animé movie," but rather on *Little Nemo in Slumberland* a comic strip featured in newspapers from the 1890s to the 1920s.
Thanks Keith. There are some othere NES videos on this channel you might also enjoy. My intention was pick games that some folks might not be familiar with.
I didn't know anyone that had Karnov. You're fortunate to have known about it early on. I'm glad you found out about some interesting games from this video
Little Nemo is a no brainer. Probably the best platformer I still don't have and maybe the most essential NES/Famicom game I don't own. Gremlins 2 was a big surprise when I rented it back in the day. Sunsoft actually made good movie games. I would put Batman on the list also but it's more difficult to find cheaper. Still not as expensive as other games I would like to collect. I have Crystallis, Karnov, and Heavy Barrel. My collection is over 100. Have considered Gyruss but haven't picked it up yet. Cabal I is another excellent arcade port that is not too expensive. Natsume made only a handful of games but they are one of the best 3rd party devs for the NES next to Konami. I like them easily more than Capcom. Problem is their games are some of the most expensive. They are the ones I don't have I wish I could have most.

TROG was a GREAT pick for this list! I own it and even forgot about its existence for a while till you mentioned it, and just like you said its best played on 2 player! I shall see if I can get a coop session going for that again sometime soon (its been too long)
Thanks for the video, alot of good games here that aren't often mentioned. I looked up Crystalis, thinking it looks cool. My "special" Canadian price over $40 shipped, blah
Whomp 'Em & Guerrilla War are decent nes games and I can't imagine them being that expensive. Truth be told nes and every other console have tons of games that did not get much press. That doesn't always decide if a game is great or not. I remember intelligence Qube for PS1, I think it may have even been generally disliked but it's not true, its a great game. Really depends on the person too.

I appreciate this list. Good balance and variety. Nicely done. Might give Heavy Barrel a try after the recommend.
It's fun, and has two playa functionality
Im glad you added Gyruss to the list. It’s under 20 bucks on eBay and it has 40 levels with Konami style bosses. Awesome space shooter for the NES.
