It's definitely a style that you need to grow into. Strickland's endless amount of sparring rounds and slowly but surely 'growing into' his own style is a massive reason why it works so well for him and why he beat Izzy.
Here’s the thing you guys, nobody on earth will be able to emulate it like Sean. He didn’t learn the style, he IS the style. He forged it. Alex and niksik have refined it. Unless you know what’s going on inside Sean’s head at every moment, this style will not work for you
Many have used it. Look at George Foreman, look at Diesilnoi, look at Archie Moore. Yes he does things a little differently but I’m not convinced that he created it from scratch.
@@coachkajan Facts. It reminds me of old-school bareknuckle styles, adapted and modified to deal with kicks and takedowns, hence the more square on hips and slightly lower hand position.
There's like four fighter's in One championship whom use it. A bunch of Thai fighter's. And one of GSP good friend would use it. Don't forget bunch of boxers use it.
@tristargymwestcoast i think he did create it by himself. He definitely took concepts from other fighters, but i think he created his style more with an ecological aproach instead of copying other fighters moves.
Exactly, it’s a weird combination of Floyd’s style and George Forman’s arms defense, or even better wing chun. I would never believe that could work against a killer like Izzy but it did. Fighting is a crazy game
essentially, this seems to be a style that one must become accustom to for years to become useful. Sean's has mastered it for years thus him beating Izzy.
Nice attempt mate. Strickland was literally being a mongoose in front of the cobra that is Izzy. The cross guard / front on philly is a very underestimated guard, all sizes and shapes can use it, from Hearns to Tua. If you look up Muay Thai legend Somrak you will get a good idea of how effective it is in Muay Thai, it hides elbows really well. But it has to be practiced, allot. Check up Ray Sefo sparring Strickland, interesting how Sefo deals with that guard.
Basically what I'm getting from this video is that this style is something that you gotta get comfortable with. Also, Izzy don't teep. Guess I never realized that
@tristargymwestcoast Its surprising how well it works. The only thing I saw is a couple Tps. I wonder tho, if Izzy could changed things with a couple more TPs.
Definitely agree that its a style that had to grow on a fighter.💯Personally for you, I would say to keep that knee up. You stayed on the backfoot well and used the upper body guard well, but you have to protect your body with your knee as well. (Similar to muai thai) The young lady and the thicker hispanic homie did well getting into a traditional boxing stance to enter your guard and rain body attempt when the threat of the knee disappeared with the lack of knee body block incorporated with philly shell and taekwondo high forearm/elbow guard. They did well mimicking your philly shell then ripping the body to kinda lower your expectancy to the angles they’d take but they were praying on the body shots the entire exchange. Loved the vid btw
Dudes acting as if Strickland is doing something never before seen. Philly shell/shoulder roll. George Benton James Toney FLOYD MAYWEATHER Cross guard- George Foreman amongst many. Knock it off.
It’s definitely been done before but it’s very rare to see anyone do it in todays combat sports. Also I feel he has a unique way of using them and combining them.
"Knock it off" Stop acting like a prick for no damn reason 😂 shoulder roll rarely happens. It's the long guard and the cross guard, lead elbow thats doing most of the work.

Adaptive long guard + cross blocking wing chun + shoulder roll philly shell = MAXIMUM DEFENSE
It works well dude

Floyd Mayweather mixed with Wing Chun.

Gotta add the pressure, and don't do it to every fighter, looks great!

We’ll I mean, I don’t think I got hit THAT much but ya everything takes time to build. Just trying it out to see what the benefits and costs are.
Damn Vincent and his teep!

Nice dude, what's the name of the musics in the background?
Needs more jabs, or quick low kicks could achieve similar results.
It works well. I dunno why, but it works well. As long as ur lanky

Exactly why it should be analyzed and speculated upon, hence he drops the video and we comment🤷🏽♂️😂
Those are all boxers. Strickland is an mma guy. So I guess he is doing something we’ve never seen
"Knock it off" Stop acting like a prick for no damn reason 😂

You need to punch into the punches, always intercepting, you ttrying to use too many frames. Box out of the frames, deflect, reposition body
