Fans whose dislike of a given band is proportional to their popularity mostly revolves around this sense of feeling special for liking the band when they were small. The fans were there first when no one cared so when other people around them start caring, the fans feel less special. And the fans don't like this feeling and this translates into hostility.

i never got that. Maybe it's just me, but if I'm SUPER into some tiny, underground band, then when they start blowing up, i'm happy for them. I'm happy they're getting notoriety and success. And i'm glad other people are finally discovering something i've known all along is good and that other people get to enjoy it too.
i think maybe part of it is that metal has always been seen as "noise" and not really taken seriously by the music community at large. So it's like, metalheads actively reject popular mainstream music in reaction to it. and then when a metal band gets big and enters the mainstream, it kinds of messes with that dynamic and people don't know how to feel.
that's a theory anyway. I dunno. All i know is that, personally, i prefer to be happy for bands i like. I want bands i like to succeed, so it makes me glad to see them doing so.

Honestly, I think it's kinda disrespectful to judge Architects for their new sound. They're not selling out like some of the other mentioned bands. They lost their main songwriter. So yeah, shit's gonna sound different. And while I personally don't like it as much either, I'm hella glad they found a way to keep going.
When your main songwriter dies, chances are you're done for good. But Architects pulled through. That's what counts. It'll never be the same without Tom, but it doesn't have to be. That's life.

Out of all the things you can legitimately criticize about this band, for example: no existing melodies (I mean what's even the point of using guitars when they don't produce any melodies anymore?) no energetic or creative rhytms, only 0-0-0-0-0 monotonic djent riffs with excessive double bass drumming (wow so original and creative) and a very annoying raspy vocals (the singer can not do low growling screams nor can he sing in a clear high voice either)...
but out of all these things you chose to criticize the fucking lyrics? On a fucking Metalcore band? Like who even gives a fuck about the lyrics in fucking Metalcore dude! 😂🤣

I know some of these ARE on the list tho and i somewhat agree with some just because the new sound of some of these bands just isnt my taste. Didnt really like BTF with Craig tho, there were some bangers and im sure his vocals have improved but duing his time with BTF before Baeu, his vocals needed some work imo. Also Of Mice & Men. Everything with Austin in the band was so good. Dont get me wrong, Aaron is still killing it but Austins vocals were iconic, even in Attack Attack. Also, with Attack Attack, Caleb when he was on vocals. Still killing in in beartooth too. Feeling so nostalgic just thinking of these bands and artist.

But on the other hand, I can totally understand the hate they recieve. Like, sometimes their new music isn't even bad, but it's like they threw away everything that make them "them" and it's now a totally different band. It's like you're reading an amazing thriller/mystery book, and in the next volumes they turn the story into a romcom or something.

It's quite interesting to me how similar opinions are on A7X and PWD despite these two bands and their paths still being very different from each other. Both bands have been pretty much set on achieving the same goal of becoming massive headliners. And the Rock & Metal industry desperately needs bands like them to step up and fill the void that older bands are leaving behind sooner or later. People can bash the new stuff from Avenged and Parkway all they want but they are never going back to either WTF nor Horizons and that is good. It would just feel fake at this point. In the end the artists have to make music they themselves are more than happy with because otherwise they are just going to burn thremselves out and end up quitting. Same with Architects. People would be like "oh that's good they sucked now anyway" without realizing that the dreams and jobs of so many people involved inside and outside the band would be crushed. Who in their right mind wants someone else to be this miserable just because they don't like the music anymore? Ridiculous.
Not to mention that Darker Still has quite some really amazing music on it. The title track is possibly the best piece of music they have ever written. Can throw Chronos off Reverence into the conversation too.
Honestly though, it's funny to laugh at people bashing them while these bands play massive festivals. PWD even being a Wacken headliner. That is worth A LOT more than the opinion of some average metalcore fans stuck in 2009 unwilling to accept change.

They sucked live and the singer was pissed that we were all tired from moshing to As I Lay Dying right before them. Atreyu left the stage early and didn't even finish their set. It also didn't help that they were primarily playing new songs off the 3rd album before it was released so no one knew the songs.

Maybe I like it, perhaps for different reasons than before, or maybe I don't but it doesn't matter as it isn't MY band. I'm only a listener, able to tune out if they go in a direction I'm not interesting in following them. Sure, I feel a bit bad when this happens, a bit disappointed but I would thank them for the music they have given me and move on. Our paths will separate... Atreyu is the only band mentioned I’ve ever really heard. When I think of metalcore I think more of the late 90s/early 00’s.
