Varian killed a big ass infernal and died vs felguards 1v5 and everyone lose their minds, but broxigar survived almost the WHOLE FCKING burning legion on Argus alone and died wounding Sargeras himselft and nobody gives a fck because "alliance wannabe fanboys" know only the in-game lore :D
Listen to Varian's scream when he is dying. Most of the time either the voice actor or the director of the voice actor has a death scream come out like a macho, ultra-deep scream. That way the character will be seen as 'tough' or some such. Varian starts there, almost as if he 's trying to put out a brave front but he is still only a human and his scream turns to one of pure pain. I know its not a MAJOR thing, but I think that slight detail really drives home the emotional impact of this scene. Varian was a human being like all of us and I think that slight aspect to this moment really brings this out. This is, honestly, the best cinematic I have seen so far. Great job, Blizzard!
Wow, you aren't kidding! He's also the voice of Thrall, wrote several of the WarCraft books among numerous others, and was instrumental in the development of all of Blizzard's three headliner series. I think I just found my new role model. XD
Dauntless3788 He is their senior story teller after all. He was story director of all Blizzard franchise since warcraft 3 up until he retired. After that each department begin to have their own story director instead of having like one guy writing all 3 story which I assumed have drained him and led to his retirement. He even wrote stort for overwatch until Michael chu take over.
Something very noteworthy during Varian's death: If you noticed Gul'dan's expression, he seemed somewhat frustrated as he was killing him. That's because he was not able to break Varian's spirit. Varian retained his honor in his final moments.
Kargath Bladefist (WoD) because the alliance has been written poorly for the last 4 xpacks. they've been willing to bend over backwards for the horde and the horde keeps antagonizing them over and over and they're expected to take it. in seige of orgrimmar they help the horde take their own city back with no terms, sylvanas makes more forsaken out of alliance soldiers there, and nothing is done. the alliance should've occupied orgrimmar for the following patch and they didn't. the alliance is supposed to be written as a great superpower (Chris metzen calls them the captain america civilization) and they keep bending over backwards for a bunch of fucking chimps. the alliance has an armada of like 300 ships, several gunships, and a tightly knit group of historical allies. the horde has 3 races that sort of like each other, zombies that nobody really likes, a group of elves that consider leaving them every expansion, and goblins whose services could be turned by a large sum of gold. Now you tell me how that group of misfits actually defeats the former alliance of lordaeron, a 10,000 year old civilization, a 100,000 year old civilization that just happens to be refugees at the moment, and tame werewolves that are still technically human. why would the alliance ever want to fight for "azeroth" if the other guys keep fucking them over. sylvanas didn't tell the alliance to retreat as well, they just did it without telling them. they've used chemical weapons against entire cities and armies, raised their fallen dead, and they do nothing. fuck azeroth and fuck the horde.
As a Horde player, I've always respected Varian Wrynn. He truly was a noble and honorable warrior. Seeing him die like that was horrible for me. This cutscene definitely invoked some emotion.
indeed, unlike Vol'jin who retreated and died like a bitch on the throne Remember Victory or Death? The Alliance was more horde than the horde itself that day
2:03 I like the fact, that Greymane INSTANTLY understands Varian, when he takes the letter. Somelike he knew at any time this moment will come, when Varian will pass everything over to Anduin. Great Cinematic. I come back from time to time, just to enjoy it :)
Varian is the Spirit of the Warrior class in WoW not Garrosh or Grom. Uncorrupted by magic, brutal to foes, benevolent to and protective of allies.. Defeated but Never Broken, Sacrifice for others. For the warriors of Alliance and For the warriors of Horde!
Kinda. Remeber, the horde had Broxigar. He sacrifice himself for Azaroth, was a friend of Malfurion and Tyrande, blessd by Cenarius, batteld solo the Legion and even Sageras. He saved the world, and if he would have still lived, he would have stayed there and hold the line but this time not alone but with Varian( who he would call Lo'Gosh most likely). They are the best of the warrior on both sides.
oh shit this comment come from person never play WC2 or WC3 Grommash slay Cenaruis demi God and Mannaroth one of the greatest Legion Demons you can go see Grom WC3 cinematic i know this is 1year old commant but i cant see my Grom disrespected and do nothnig :p
@@Raziel-zm3dv But only after he taisted demonblood a second time. And Mannaroth was killd by him and Thrall. Alternative Grom got the mommend of suprise against Mannaroth. Was is powerfull, but was alsow hotheaded, easy to manipiulate and savage.
Mannaroth is Stronger then Gul'dan ( the one who killed Varian ) and even non corrupted AU Grom killed him with surprise or not true Grommash not very smart but he good with wars tactics and strategies he very smart in fights and allways look for the enemies week points after all i want to say Grom is one of the strongest Warriors Azaroth have ever seen with Orgrim and Anduin Lothar ( the Forgotten hero of the Alliance ) and for sure Varian
you can loock all that answear in the audios blizzard putted on the oficial wow chanel on YT they tell the story of guldan on azzertoh and the sageras tomb
Farewell, Varian. You were not perfect, but you grew to become a true King. My king. You and your son learned a lot from each other, may he lead with honor as you did. I hope you find peace where you are now, with your dear wife, I'm sure she's really proud of what you've become. You will never be forgotten, Lo'gosh. For Azeroth.
thrall and varian always showed the best of each faction, as a 100% horde player since early TBC i only have to say, my respect to varian, great character and great leader
@@EdgeyStyle Thrall is basically going into the great denile and depression stages after losing all he tried to accomplish. He practically brought garrosh up to who he was, and was a mentor/father figure to him. After seeing all those wars and battles and the after math of everything, especially with the betraayal of garrosh becoming a psychotic power hungry old god infused chaos, and then killing garrosh, thrall felt like he was failing everyone. Like obi wan kenobi, he basically went into hermit in a cave on a distant land mode. It is a nice little throwback, but that is basically what thrall was doing for a while, and i think he still is. He feels like he has failed everyone, especially garrosh.
@@Spydabreej Because he was ruined by Blizzard.. Thrall in wc3, vanilla, TBC and WOTLK was an amazing leader. Benevolent and honorable, yet brutal and decisive against the enemies of the Horde.
@@Danneman92 What lead Thrall to break free from being, just a 'thrall' was his connection to the elements, it made him into an Orc. While I agree that Blizzard destroyed him, they made a compelling storyline as to why he chose his responsibility as a shaman to the world, over the Horde. He did think Garrosh would be alright since he had Cairne and Vol'jin's counsel. We knew how it turned out, but it also kinda justified why Garrosh turned to how he eventually became. He cut off dissent, and surrounded himself with like minded blokes, of course, he'd turn out broken.
When he sacrifices himself it reminds me of the scene betweem him and his son at Siege of Orgrimmar. Anduin: Father, what are you doing?! Varian: What a king must do
Surfing a gigantic spaceship into the throat of an even more gigantic space monster was and still is the best and most epic way to go. This one was nice too though.
Vol'jins Befehl - "Lasst die Horde nicht sterben". Siehe Zwischensequenz auf Hordenseite. His question: "Why did Sylvanas leave???" "Vol'jin's command: 'Do not let de Horde die.' - as seen in the Horde cinematic."
There is one difference. Varian died with his dignity and his sacrifice having meaning. Gul'dan died broken and having accomplished nothing. One's a hero. The other is a footnote.
That's the saying of the Orcs, not the Horde as a whole. That is why I still prefer the Horde from Wc3 (tauren trolls orcs) which were 10x badass as this Horde is
As if the entire horde sacrifices itself only that the Alliance can carry their victory away and most likely take over Azeroth after that. There is a difference between bravery and stupidity.
Its not a Horde thing, its an Orc thing. From all the people participant there (if we don't count Thrall ), Varian fighting in the arenas with orc's , having an orc for a mentor there and receiving the name Lo'Gosh - his mentality is closest to ,, Victory or death"' .
It's an orc thing, not a Horde one. As for Varian this had nothing to do with ''Victory or Death'', it was a calculated move with the intent of saving his army. Had he had any other option you can bet he wouldn't be stupid enough to not take it.
No, it REALLY doesn't. Fact is, Genn's in-game model manages to have even MORE problems than REGULAR player Worgen models, from a technical standpoint. Some of the teeth on his lower jaw stretch as his mouth opens, the tips remaining where they are while the rest of the tooth moves away, and his beard clips through his lower jaw when he opens his mouth. Cinematic Genn: Beautiful. In-game Genn: Not an improvement in the slightest.
That was a dick move from Sylvanas, eh? ( I watched the Horde Cinematic, i'm horde too, but was a "How to be a pussy" tutorial ) JK, she saved everyone
The Horde was outnumbered by the legion one to infinite, Sylvanas had no such choice either fight and die or save the rest of the horde from being massacred. In a battle where you losing and outnumbered, it is always the wise choice to retreat and fight another day. There is no such thing as cowardice in a battle like this.
Aodaic There, was it so hard, guys? This man just rocked the cinematics. Comment-bait like mine are not to be trusted ( Yes, i was trolling you guys, but for a good purpose ) Lesson learned, good day *Bows and leaves*
The only gnome I like. Mekkatorque is awesome! And this also shows why there are no gnomes in any other cinematic, because if there were, the game would consist of nothing but gnomes.
But by making this comment you're clearly not Horde. It kills me, every time someone says something like this. "Wah! I'm sad Varian died and I'm Horde! Wah!" If you're sad that he's dead then you're not Horde. You just play Horde characters. Because you're stupid.
@@Vgpl0 Not really. I play Alliance and I am Alliance with all my heart. But I can respect certain Horde characters and even feel bad for them. I respect Saurfang, Thrall to some extend and Lor'Themar has in interesting spot for me.
Thank you my king for showing me why Aliance is so bloody awesome... first char in vanilla was an aliance warrior and you just reminded me how awesome we are... this is the 2nd time I cried. Last time was when Arthas died :( . Being Aliance makes me even more proud. PS: The way they killed Tirion is just pathetic... He is one of the greatest paladins and they made him die in such a stupid way...
I know he dies... but that happens during the Retribution Paladin questline. And personally, I don't mind that we all get the Ashbringer, not at all. For a start, it wasn't a Legendary Weapon like Shadowmourne or Thunderfury, but an NPC weapon; and secondly, you can always opt out and get sword and shield or the hammer instead :) I have a fair few palas and I'll have one of them get the Ashbringer, another will be full on tank and I'll have a Holy Pala. :)
TenDisks It is ok to be able to have it ... but it should be a rare drop hard to obtain... now every random casual player can have it... back in the day you had to prove your worth for such great weapons :) corrupted Ashrbinger was a privilege
Scourgeborne well I don't really wanna get into all this too deeply - every casual player is going the leader of his order hall and all that - personally. as I said, I don't mind it. Each to their own, I guess :)
Oh yes. Let us all die at the Broken Shore so that the Legion can overrun everything else because all leaders are dead! That seems like a logical decision.
few years later and my favorite touch is still that Varian's eyes soften when he looks up at the ridge and sees the Legion's reinforcements from where the Horde was stationed. he at least didn't have to think that the Horde had betrayed him yet again right before he died-that expression change says it all: he saw the demons and knew they were set up, not that the Horde was double crossing him. I looooove this cinematic!!
Varians death scream still ranks as the best I've ever heard in any medium, be it movies, shows or games. The VA is really emptying his full lungs and letting his voice crack and go high. It's absolutely amazing.
"live to fight another day" That's the main theme of this and the Horde side. The alliance lacked the oversight of the battle, yet the Horde made the call for retreat cause they knew they were outmatched.
People who see this, please don't watch it with feelings but with the eyes of warfare. The tactical retreat the Horde made was a clear message even for the alliance, yet they stayed because they lacked the overview of the battlefield and thought that they were winning. Therefor varian sacrificed himself so that others may live to fight another day.
My entire life playing WoW I've always been 100% for the Horde (and still am when it comes to alliance vs horde) but god damn Legion made me also love the Alliance.
Lmao, wow really bro? They had to leave because they were being overrun. Varian did the same thing to defend his people except Varian would sacrifice himself whereas the Horde would retreat to fight another day. There's no cowardice in that my friend. Mind You, nothing was stopping Varian from getting on that ship with Genn, he thought it best to sacrifice himself their just in case Gul'dan launched another meteor blast. Then again, who knew if he could even fire off another one of those things and hit his mark seeing as he completely missed the first time.
+Alcaedus yes varian could've fled, so everyone would've died. the robot caught the ship, they wouldn't be able to go anywhere unless someone destroys that thing.
That's true, considering if Varian's sword was enough to destroy it, then theoretically one of Mekkatorque's Blast would've been able to do the trick as well no? Come on man, this is all written this way for plot, but we know that more could've been done man. It's just amazing how ppl know why the Horde had to leave, but still gets mad and calls them cowards. PPl eat this stuff up haha
+Alcaedus "Its been written this way" this is what people need to understand yeah. we know that logically it could've happen in a totally different, a better way, but thats the plot we were given, there is nothing to argue about.
Lol I wasn't arguing bro. I simply stated why I felt this dude was wrong to say the Horde were cowards. You didnt see me insult anyone did you? There's no argument, just a vivid defense for the horde since they weren't showing cowardice at all. If Vol'jin and Thrall weren't hurt, they would've stayed and fight, plain and simple.
Seeing this from the Alliance perspective after going through it as Horde really makes it seem as if "we" abandoned the Alliance in that battle, but from the perspective of the Alliance they didn`t see the endless tide of demons flanking the Horde forces. If the Horde had stayed it would have changed nothing except adding more corpses on the ground. I tip my hat off to Varian though, he went out like a true hero.
@thin vo & mrantidk If the horde wouldn't retreat, the expansion would be over soon after that battle. And you wouldn't even get to play it. Because the legion would face no real resistance if all azeroth forces were dead. It was a foolish attempt to rush down to tomb of sargeras without any knowlage of enemy power at the first place. You are a clueless fool if you think otherwise.
The fact that Gul'dan was the one who willed Garona to kill King Llane all those years ago makes Varian's last stand that much more powerful. Face to face with his most hated enemy. He gave his all and failed. Just like his father did, but there's still a certain peace about it, killed by the same person who killed his father. Llane was a good king, but no warrior. Varian was a good king and a warrior, but the fact that they couldnt defeat the same enemy brings about a sense of comfort I think. Varian achieved so much in his life, much more than his father did, so when he didn't do more than Llane in this situation, I can imagine Varian feeling like a child again, comforted by a parent. Back when he wasn't stronger than him at anything, it could've brought him a sense of nostalgia and again, comfort, had Varian felt this during his last moments. And the fact that Varian was so devastated after Stormwind's Fall once he made it to Lordaeron, he still peaked over the balcony in the Capital City's throne room to witness the formation of the Alliance of Lordaeron. Years later, he fights beside two of its original members - Genn Greymane and Gelbin Mekkatorque, against a shade of the same enemy, Gul'dan. Of course Varian's last words were "For the Alliance"... brilliant, just so fucking brilliant.
I find it sad how Varian's last words were, "for the alliance" whereas before his death, it was, "for Azeroth" it was like his last thoughts were him having his faith crushed in the potential of the horde and alliance actually being allies thanks to Sylvanas
one other note, why does the horde see 90% of this, but the alliance is told almost nothing of why the horde fell back? if you havent seen it already, i highly advise it.
Wrathgate 2.0 probably. Also Mekkatorque is the exact opposite of the gnome stereotype. Damn shame his people are seena s comic reliefs when in fact they're the most advanced race in terms of technology in the World (SoO displays that very well). I wish more gnomes would be able (lorewise) to take down 3 troggs at once like Mekkatorque once did....
After studying the alliance and the horde cinematics I came to this conclusion: The horde faced dreadguards, doomguards, 1 dread infernal and a portal. Their leader died because he did not pay attention and they where not to able to hold ground. The alliance faced felguards, doomguards 1 dread infernal, 1 pit lord, Lord Jaraxxus (the red giant one) and the main portal. they where able to hold the ground so far, but decided to retreat after the horde bailed. Their leader died to let the rest escape and killed 1 fel reaver and several dreadguards before he was killed. Just let this sink in, and you should find out what faction is the superior one.
The Horde was facing 4x as many demons and was being bombarded by at least 3 Legion spaceships. It’s pretty clear they had the tougher fight from the get-go.
I love how if you don't see both cinematics you don't realize why the archers pulled back. It's very realistic to see the events from both sides. It makes the conflict between hoard and alliance very realistic
@@richardshiflett5181so by your logic, the alliance are cowards to? They also ran. If the horde stayed they would have ALL died. Not just Varian and Voljin.
Because the Horde couldn't even clear trash mobs? Gets "ambushed" according to all the horde players, on the high ground? Loses their gunship, again? She pussied out because the Horde is a faction of failures.
yeah it is, yet you see alliance players complaining about how the horde is favored at everything yet a fucking thrash mob killed vol'jin and they made varyan look like a real hero
Maybe you should watch both, the Legion planed that battle, those demons that 'died' will be back as they didn't die in the twisted nether. The Legion drew out the leaders of both factions to deal huge blows to both sides. I'm calling it, Varian is going to come back. Sylvanas was getting over run herself, broken shore was a lost cause the moment they attacked.
Almost four years later and I still absolutely love this cinematic. Varian's screams as he's being destroyed by fel energy, Genn yelling at the end, Shalamayne being left in the dirt with the light going out. Always been a Horde player but damn this was and is so epic.
My father taught me many things; strength, devotion, courage, but the most important thing he taught me was sacrifice. Without his sacrifice, the Alliance wouldn't have survived and our world wouldn't have been saved. His actions will echo throughout the ages and his roar will strike fear into our greatest adversaries.
Rest in Peace, King Varian Wrynn, the most badass king Azeroth has ever known... *Takes my draenic warhammer in hand* Death to the cowards of the Forsaken! This is the last time they betrayed us! We demand justice!
By far THE best cinematic for a new wow addon! The broken shore was so freaking god damn good and top of that this was just a PREPATCH! They did this all just for generating a hype for the next addon, they never did this effort before or after legion. And the cinematic nailed it so hard, everywhere is danger and regardless what we do the legion was stronger at this point and really felt like a serious danger to us and azeroth. peak writing
Steve Urkel Yes. Its because I suck. Its not like I have an Alt on horde with the same class , specc etc.. but smh I win with my horde character but lose with my Alliance.
No he went there to stop Guldan from corrupting the horde and obtain the Horde for himself and make them into the Iron Horde, he gave them advanced technology that OU Horde didn't have when they came to invade. He went there specifically to stop Guldan and be made Warchief.
Varian stood true to his words! "What a King must do!" He knew, when he saw the fel reaver, that its either his sacrifice or his people dead, and he made his choice.
indeed, unlike Vol'jin who retreated and died like a bitch on the throne Remember Victory or Death? The Alliance was more horde than the horde itself that day
Weeaboos Hunter Vol’jin fulfilled his duty to his people by surviving a battle neither faction could win long enough to name a worthy successor to look after them once he was gone. Varian chose to ignore the signal to retreat and paid the ultimate pride for his foolish pride. Worse yet, he left his people in the hands of two self-serving, corrupt warmongers who are using his own son as a puppet. If anyone went out like a bitch and left a legacy stained with failure, it’s definitely Varian.
@@weeabooshunter4759 Yeah, Vol'jin for sure after being mortally wounded and giving orders to save the rest as his death was going the make the Horde leaderless, said ''Oh, and please take me to the safety'' He fell uncouncious and Silvanas just dragged him along . On a hopeless battle he was just the unlucky leader that fell first.
Any one else seeing the influence from the Hobbit in this cinematic (mainly 0:38)? Go check out the intro scene where the Elves refuse to help the Dwarves of Erebor when the dragon attacks .. literally the exact same shot!
I love the look on Gul'dan's face after Varian says "For the Alliance". Gul'dan was furious that he wasn't able to break Varian's spirit. In the end Varian still stood by his principles and who he was.
I know this is way later, but when Varian closed his eyes @1:57 he new he had to scarify himself to save Genn and the Alliance's ship. That literally brought me to tears during the Cinematic, and still now. Great work as always!
I'm crying, Lo'gosh will always be my favorite character.... Our leader died a hero's death, while the Horde pussies were running away. He's a true king, just like Llane and Lothar.
You guys are all dumb both the horde and the alliance suffered greatly, and both warchiefs made a decision better for their own faction, voljin was gonna die and he knew that if he died right there the horde would have been weak and died among him, thats why he retreated, varian made the decision of saving his troops by sacraficing himself to save others, Both are heroes of azeroth
Actually, no they didn't. I've played both scenarios. The Horde actually fight much more demons in the final stage and in larger groups. Both factions are dealing with a lot, but the ones fighting the Alliance come in smaller waves whereas the demons up on the ridge fighting the Horde come in ridiculously big groups to the point they're overrun because they can't get near the portal constantly spewing them out. The Horde have no choice but to retreat, Vol'jin gets stabbed, Thrall is down on the ground and Baine is beginning to get surrounded. All these arguments between the factions players, especially the "horde are pussies" one, is ridiculous because if the positions were switched the Alliance would have retreated too because they would have known the battle was lost and there was no point in staying just to die. If the Horde stayed they all would have died and then the Alliance would have died soon after. It would make no sense for either faction to stay and lose several of their leaders and most powerful heroes in the very first battle. The Legion had the far superior force because both factions only took a small force because they didn't realise that the Legion had an army, they thought it was just a vanguard.
the Alliance's moment in the Broken Shore is defined by bravery, defiance and sacrifice. The Horde's moment in the Broken Shore is defined by cowardice and selfisheness. AZEROTH BELONGS TO THE ALLIANCE THE BATTLE FOR AZEROTH IS UPON US STAND AS ONE #FORTHEALLIANCE
Varian lasted 7 expansions if you count legion. The Horde can't keep a warchief for more than 2-3 years. Think about it. Thrall was good for 4 expansions. Garrosh was good for 1, Vol'jin was good for like... .5 of an expansion and Sylvanas was just elected. Varian outlived 3 horde warchiefs. From Classic to BC, From BC To Wotlk, From Wotlk to Cataclysm, From Cataclysm to MoP, From MoP to Draenor, From Draenor... to his death in legion.
The cinematics of the split coast from the alliance and the Horde are still kicking the ass of all other cinematics. How heroically the king of the Alliance dies, spitting in the face of the enemy even in the face of death, and in what colors the cinematics with Vol'jin is shot, as if the spirits of Loa are present in the hall of chiefs until his very last breath, thickening the shadows...and this is just Varian's gut-wrenching, heart-piercing, soul-chilling scream... God, it's so cool even after all these years
Alternate Ending... King Varian: “GET WINDRUNNER’S ARCHERS TO CLEAR THE SKY...” *Horde messenger arrives.* Messenger: “Lord Varian. Our WarChief Vol'jin is in critical condition and we need to regroup. Lady Sylvanas is aware that the Alliance will be out gunned without the Horde and is willing to give you enough cover fire to successfully fallback.” King Varian: (Processes this for a moment.) “Very well. In return, I will send some of our best healers to tend for your WarChief.” *Both sides begin retreat in unison. Less casualties in the retreat. King Varian and Vol'jin survive. Jaina Proudmoore stops being a paranoid bitch. And everyone is chill.*
Its a point I been bringing up for two years now. The Horde left the Alliance for dead on the Broken Shore, leaving Varian no choice but to sacrifice himself to save everyone else. Instead of retreating together as a unified force, the cowards simply booked it and left them there. Hadn't they deduced the cowards left them for dead with the sound of the horn, all of them would have been wiped out. Its why Genn and Jaina have a right to be angry at the Horde's cowardice.
@@Ghoffman91 Good to know that after two years, the fact that Horde was fighting on two fronts while Alliance held one still didn't sink in. How dare they, cowards, should've lasted even longer in this slaughter for glorious Alliance to acknowledge and organize a retreat... by a gunship no less. And THEN they can go back to their normal ships on foot with the Legion breathing down their backs, once the Alliance finally got its shit together.
At 1:04 Varian saw that where Sylvanas' archers stood, that a big army of demons was marching in. He knew what's going on and figured out why the Horde pulled back. Genn didn't saw that and of course it was assumed that a betrayal occurred.
5 years later, and this cinematic still brings me to tears. Every single time.
Remembering the good times when WoW made us feel emotions beside anger and frustration
I wish they had done my man Tirion the same justice, not even a small cinematic, just a scream and being thrown into a fel pit.

The fact that he said 'for the alliance' and not for Azeroth makes it so much better.

Now you tell me how that group of misfits actually defeats the former alliance of lordaeron, a 10,000 year old civilization, a 100,000 year old civilization that just happens to be refugees at the moment, and tame werewolves that are still technically human. why would the alliance ever want to fight for "azeroth" if the other guys keep fucking them over. sylvanas didn't tell the alliance to retreat as well, they just did it without telling them. they've used chemical weapons against entire cities and armies, raised their fallen dead, and they do nothing. fuck azeroth and fuck the horde.
bookplate someone sounds.....pissy.
FUCK THE HORDE
Let appreciate that a gnome finally made it into the cinematic.

Thrall? I don't think so maybie before but now i really don't like him
Thrall is fkin freakin bad stupid ass

Hey Horde, probably shouldn't make your battlecry "victory or death" if you're gonna run away as soon as you're losing. Just a suggestion.
That's the saying of the Orcs, not the Horde as a whole. That is why I still prefer the Horde from Wc3 (tauren trolls orcs) which were 10x badass as this Horde is
Odd, that's what the Alliance was doing in this cinematic as well. Selective outrage, much?
Bleeding Eye Watcher tf? The alliance stayed till the end, and sacrificed their king. The horde left as soon as the fight wasn't in there favor.
Bleeding Eye Watcher they did after you horde trash left FIRST!!!
As if the entire horde sacrifices itself only that the Alliance can carry their victory away and most likely take over Azeroth after that.
There is a difference between bravery and stupidity.

It's funny how the Horde's thing is "VICTORY OR DEATH" yet it's Varian who exemplified that better than anyone on the Horde.
That's because Vol'jin died on the Horde side during battle (well mostly) so windrunner decided to retreat

Too bad in game he is fucking shirtless.
That just makes it better ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
No, it REALLY doesn't. Fact is, Genn's in-game model manages to have even MORE problems than REGULAR player Worgen models, from a technical standpoint. Some of the teeth on his lower jaw stretch as his mouth opens, the tips remaining where they are while the rest of the tooth moves away, and his beard clips through his lower jaw when he opens his mouth.
Cinematic Genn: Beautiful. In-game Genn: Not an improvement in the slightest.

Victory or flee. Good ol horde.
This was logical lol. If they fell with Varian, Azeroth would be doomed. Sylvannas was smart enough to know this.
Let's wait for the horde one before we judge.
Oh yes. Let us all die at the Broken Shore so that the Legion can overrun everything else because all leaders are dead! That seems like a logical decision.
***** Watched it on stream it shows what happens it gives context to why they leave. It's pretty cool actually both factions lost two great leaders.
Good ol alliance kids. Never waiting for the Horde's side of the story. You are far from being the good guys lol
few years later and my favorite touch is still that Varian's eyes soften when he looks up at the ridge and sees the Legion's reinforcements from where the Horde was stationed. he at least didn't have to think that the Horde had betrayed him yet again right before he died-that expression change says it all: he saw the demons and knew they were set up, not that the Horde was double crossing him. I looooove this cinematic!!

+mitre991 I admit, their cowardice sure helped thing to go south as quickly as it did.
Things like this are why Voljin never trusted Windrunner
"live to fight another day"
That's the main theme of this and the Horde side. The alliance lacked the oversight of the battle, yet the Horde made the call for retreat cause they knew they were outmatched.
cowardice? lol good thing you mongrel aren't leading anyone.
Hands down one of the best ingame cinematics Blizzard has ever created.
At least they weren't stupid enough to make his last words "For Azeroth".
Actually, if you look at the lip sync when he says it, it looks like they redubbed it at the last minute. That was the right choice.
I went and rewatched that part. His lips very clearly say "For the Alliance".
Oh fuck you. World ending threat and everyone's like "FER THE HERD" or "FER THE ALLIENS", you lot are gonna die if you stay divided goddammit.
A little last minute racism for the hell of it :P
We don't need no Alliance, fuck em.
My entire life playing WoW I've always been 100% for the Horde (and still am when it comes to alliance vs horde) but god damn Legion made me also love the Alliance.
You can always count on the horde to be cowards.
Blizzard wants to made another wrath gate 2.0
is it also true that Legion ships are assaulting the Horde on that ridge?
Vazruden Yeah. Thrall got nuked by 3 legion airships.
You did abandon us.
Technically, he wasn't killed by Guldan, but rather by bunch of demons roaming around him. I guess Varian would wipe his ass with Guldan in 1v1.
Came here after the Ny'alotha cinematic just to remember how REAL in game cinematics should are made.
Best leader through all WoW series..rest in peace, Varian...FOR THE ALLIANCE!
I find it sad how Varian's last words were, "for the alliance" whereas before his death, it was, "for Azeroth" it was like his last thoughts were him having his faith crushed in the potential of the horde and alliance actually being allies thanks to Sylvanas
never thought i would say this, about any gnome or goblin... EVER. But Mekkatorque is a damned badass!
"Tell 'em to make it count." S-052 Jorge
one other note, why does the horde see 90% of this, but the alliance is told almost nothing of why the horde fell back? if you havent seen it already, i highly advise it.

After studying the alliance and the horde cinematics I came to this conclusion:
The horde faced dreadguards, doomguards, 1 dread infernal and a portal.
Not only Jaraxxus, the Dreadlord Trio, including Tichondrious himself, as well as Brutallius from Sunwell and many other named demons.
Also the eredar twins
The Horde was facing 4x as many demons and was being bombarded by at least 3 Legion spaceships. It’s pretty clear they had the tougher fight from the get-go.
It's almost like someone wrote these stories this way.. really makes you think
Shit poster says what?
I love how if you don't see both cinematics you don't realize why the archers pulled back. It's very realistic to see the events from both sides. It makes the conflict between hoard and alliance very realistic

Victory.
For Sylvanas.
Go away, traitor king. You sacrificed the nelves without remorse. THIS is what the Alliance really is.
can we take a moment and agree in HOW AWESOME GREYMANE LOOKS HERE
When you haven't run into it in a while but the Fel Reaver sound still makes you jump
"For the alliance." Fuckin chills dude.
Rest in Peace, King Varian Wrynn, the most badass king Azeroth has ever known... *Takes my draenic warhammer in hand* Death to the cowards of the Forsaken! This is the last time they betrayed us! We demand justice!
More and that It the Legion we after.
Even as a horde player, I regret the death of Varian. He was a true hero of Azeroth.
And I as an Alliance mourn the loss of Saurfang, as he was, also.
2:10 tho that song is so fucking epic gives ya chillz does anyone know what soundtrack that is?
It's called Anduin's Theme
Thanks m8
TommyDDD No h8 m8
Frandaero sex?
It's not Anduins theme though.. Atleast it is only for a time wondering what the theme at 3:35- 4:00 is.
This shit made me want to play Alliance
Then do so, join us!
Prepare for a lot of BG losing.
I've never understood this. Is it that maybe you just suck? It is closer to 60/40 victories when I BG as Alliance.
Steve Urkel Yes. Its because I suck. Its not like I have an Alt on horde with the same class , specc etc.. but smh I win with my horde character but lose with my Alliance.
Pokerface ™ then try isle of conquest alliance have a big advantage horde doesn’t even play it much that’s how big the alliance advantage is
if you think about it Garrosh finally took his revenge on both varian and vol'jin.
revenge from beyond the grave!
That is just stupid.
AU Gul'dan or burning legion wouldn't be here on azeroth if it wasn't garrosh going to alternate timeline in first place.
+undead4500 But isn't that what Garrosh try to stop in the first place? Hence the whole Iron Horde?
No he went there to stop Guldan from corrupting the horde and obtain the Horde for himself and make them into the Iron Horde, he gave them advanced technology that OU Horde didn't have when they came to invade.
He went there specifically to stop Guldan and be made Warchief.
He never intended for the Legion to invade Azeroth, though. He pretty much hated everything related to fel magic.
Varian stood true to his words! "What a King must do!" He knew, when he saw the fel reaver, that its either his sacrifice or his people dead, and he made his choice.
indeed, unlike Vol'jin who retreated and died like a bitch on the throne
Remember Victory or Death? The Alliance was more horde than the horde itself that day
Weeaboos Hunter Vol’jin fulfilled his duty to his people by surviving a battle neither faction could win long enough to name a worthy successor to look after them once he was gone.
Varian chose to ignore the signal to retreat and paid the ultimate pride for his foolish pride. Worse yet, he left his people in the hands of two self-serving, corrupt warmongers who are using his own son as a puppet. If anyone went out like a bitch and left a legacy stained with failure, it’s definitely Varian.
@@weeabooshunter4759 did you actually just copy and paste that same exact reply on 3+ other comments
As many times as needed. Its my own comment so i don't see any problem.
If 5 people are bullshiting about the same subject il give the same answer
Genn... GENN!
Opportunity missed to have Genn make a confused dog sound. "Genn.. GENN!" *turns* "Burf?"
+UnholyDK LMAO
Just like my pug tearing at the bedsheets.
Stupid dog! You made me look bad! OOGA BOOGA BOOGA
I love the look on Gul'dan's face after Varian says "For the Alliance". Gul'dan was furious that he wasn't able to break Varian's spirit. In the end Varian still stood by his principles and who he was.
this
I know this is way later, but when Varian closed his eyes @1:57 he new he had to scarify himself to save Genn and the Alliance's ship. That literally brought me to tears during the Cinematic, and still now. Great work as always!
the best cinematic in wow
I'm crying, Lo'gosh will always be my favorite character.... Our leader died a hero's death, while the Horde pussies were running away. He's a true king, just like Llane and Lothar.
Compared to what the alliance was facing below , the horde had it it easy.
You guys are all dumb both the horde and the alliance suffered greatly, and both warchiefs made a decision better for their own faction, voljin was gonna die and he knew that if he died right there the horde would have been weak and died among him, thats why he retreated, varian made the decision of saving his troops by sacraficing himself to save others, Both are heroes of azeroth
... Lothar was never king.
SquirbToons He was basically a king, and if nothing else he was an amazing leader
All hail the king ...The one and only alliance king... You will live In us forever brother... FOR THE ALLIANCE !!!
I had never felt so proud to be alliance until 3:29...
Farewell my king!
the Alliance's moment in the Broken Shore is defined by bravery, defiance and sacrifice.
The Horde's moment in the Broken Shore is defined by cowardice and selfisheness.
AZEROTH BELONGS TO THE ALLIANCE THE BATTLE FOR AZEROTH IS UPON US
STAND AS ONE
#FORTHEALLIANCE
badfoody FOR THE ALLIANCE!
Now shit like this just shows that alliance is the imperialist oppressor full of lying and hypocrisy.
Dragon Flame lol varian was missing in classic and bc. He came in Wotlk, lasted till Legion.
who was the faction leader in that time then?
Can we have a moment of silence for the soldier at 1:53 who goes face first into that reaver...atleast he went quickly
While many Horde ran away from danger... One Alliance ran towards it. I now know for a fact I picked the right faction. Glory to the ALLIANCE!
God, it's so cool even after all these years
Gul'dan, favorite lore character, gotta love him
Alternate Ending...
King Varian: “GET WINDRUNNER’S ARCHERS TO CLEAR THE SKY...”
*Horde messenger arrives.*
Messenger: “Lord Varian. Our WarChief Vol'jin is in critical condition and we need to regroup. Lady Sylvanas is aware that the Alliance will be out gunned without the Horde and is willing to give you enough cover fire to successfully fallback.”
King Varian: (Processes this for a moment.) “Very well. In return, I will send some of our best healers to tend for your WarChief.”
*Both sides begin retreat in unison. Less casualties in the retreat. King Varian and Vol'jin survive. Jaina Proudmoore stops being a paranoid bitch. And everyone is chill.*
Indeed.
Jaina isn't a paranoid bitch. the Horde's literallt backstabbed her about six times.
Paranoid? Fuck the horde. Backstabbing cunts.
And THEN they can go back to their normal ships on foot with the Legion breathing down their backs, once the Alliance finally got its shit together.
that power and freedom of the free will that Varian has is so inspirational
Horde player here. This guy didn't die only a hero. He died a fucking legend.
0:44 Varian knows something is happening in the other side, he refuse to belive the horde is running away you can see it in his face, that's a king
Not sure that's how he felt, at least not 100%, if so he would have said for Azeroth before dying imo
Even as Horde player, hearing Varian scream in pain like that shattered my heart.
Even if I'm pure Horde, Varian's scream at 2:52 broke my heart.
At 1:04 Varian saw that where Sylvanas' archers stood, that a big army of demons was marching in. He knew what's going on and figured out why the Horde pulled back. Genn didn't saw that and of course it was assumed that a betrayal occurred.
