I bought one of these years ago for a very specific purpose and client. I was documenting long classroom lessons and needed a camera with 1) a top handle with zoom, 2) two XLRs, 3) the ability to record lots of footage uninterrupted, 4) auto focus and 5) small and lightweight. Without going into too much detail I was a single camera op with the camera mounted on a monopod and in my other hand had a boom mic and had to constantly move around big classrooms. It ended up being a near perfect solution for my use case. The footage doesn’t stand up to modern cameras quality wise but I’ll always have an affinity for this versatile little camera.
Yeah this little camcorder would be perfect for that situation. And for $2000 when it first came out I don’t think that was that steep of a price. I’m sure the canon xa75 and canon hf g70 still have very similar sensors that produce very similar images. Because like I stated in the video I had I canon hf g40 and it had almost the same exact look to the footage.
Just picked up an XA20 as a step up from my tapeless XHA1. Can’t wait for stepdown ring to arrive to get some fisheye footage in 1080, thanks for another great vid
I bought a JVC GY HM100E for skateboarding. Threw a panowider superwide angle lens on there and it works great. Also a really small camcorder thats pretty old.
Yeah i really like the hm100/150, it has a 3ccd sensor which is quite old school for a 2011 camcorder! i only wish it would record in 1080 60p and not 720..
My XA10 crapped out very recently. Bought it in 2012. Just won't power on at all now. I tried to reach out to canon to see about getting it repaired. They won't even do repairs on it :( Now I need to starting looking for a new camera again.

This video was perfectly timed. Had an XA for about 10 years, and wanted to see if it still holds up.
The footage is still pretty decent for the camera now being the age of a teenager haha

Haha I run my UA-cam channel on this very camera as my A camera
Bravo bravo bravo
All these canons fail eventually with the zoom. Dust gets in the rocker and you will have issues with it zooming out automatically. I have a G series
Yep my canon hf g40 did that
Mine is still working fine … no issues
