What that white gunk on your salmon actually is - and how to prevent it

- Many people believe that the white gunk on cooked salmon is fat. However, it's actually a soluble protein called albumin that is also in egg whites. Having too much of it on your salmon could mean that it's overcooked. You can easily minimize it by soaking your fish in a brine solution for 10 minutes prior to cooking.

that's so awesome. I actually have been wondering this this whole time. Now i can be worry-free AND i have an innate timer to when my salmon is cooked lol
I still refuse to eat it xd
@@ben6073 🤣🤣
I really needed to see this like 7 hours ago when I was cooking salmon for dinner
Lovely Video clip! Forgive me for the intrusion, I am interested in your opinion. Have you researched - Giulian Bicepify Boarhound (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is a smashing exclusive guide for building huge arm muscle fast without the normal expense. Ive heard some incredible things about it and my old buddy Taylor at very last got great results with it.
This was great, thanks, I have been researching "men home workout" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Zanabriel Workout Weevilled - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my co-worker got cool success with it.
I needed to see it last night lol...I actually couldn't even finish mine because I was so grossed out by all the white stuff. 😳
I worked in a seafood restaurant for a year, this is generally know as the fish's "milk."
If you season the fish, caramelise one side of the fish, flip it, add butter and then put it in a preheated oven (180 celsius,) once you start seeing the milk started to come out of your fish it means it's pretty much perfectly cooked, give or take 3-5 mins depending on the size of the fillet
We have world 2 nipples
Florida and korea so the whole world can get milked
Will the "chef's special sauce" go to the surface if i squezee the living hell out of it?
😲
😱
😨
😵
._.
They explained what is the white gunk and how to reduce while cooking, but they didn't say why should you do that. Is the albumin protein bad or something?
Isolwi1, it's safe to eat. The video just said that a large amount might mean it is overcooked, and I guess people think it looks ugly and less-appealing.
Lmao no,
When it is heated (cooked), the albumin protein denatures meaning its shape changes allowing them to bind together and appear as a white 'gunk'
It makes the fish less photogenic for your Instagram pics
Isolwi1 They did, they said that it means thats your salmon is overcooked. Thats a good enough reason as any.
what a great informative video! it just gets to the point without any other showboating or anything! good job! :D
I love these kinds of vids - telling me stuff I pushed to the back of my mind but always wanted to know. :p
thank you for the info, great video. i just cooked Salmon and saw the white stuff, i ended up searching here :)

I'm also looking for the name. Started watching the video for the info, ended up finishing it for the lovely music.
The salt also works to avoid stickiness once in pan.
Thank you!
You cracked an egg lmao....
stock footage
To all the bro's out there, 0:13, don't worry brah, it's just protein.

Sick brah
I wonder, is albumin something we need for our diets? like would it help us to increase our HDL or lower our blood pressure or control our sugar levels.
Soak the fish for 10 minutes *Sets timer to 30*
Great video
I thought it was fat. I felt sick due to thinking I was eating something super greasy and fatty, but this makes me feel better.
What about chicken breast? Is it the same, or something else? The same white thing also happens to chicken when cooked or grilled
What is the music? It's very relaxing.
IDC every good piece of salmon I've ever had has always had a lot of it.
You should try steaming salmon in sauces. Super soft, tender and flavorful, and no white blobs!
nice vid thanks
I thought it was salmonella
skylar6150 hey, look at who it is...
skylar6150 (anger intensifies)
skylar6150 or SPERManella
Are salmons chickens?
Me too. I mean literally. I wasn't joking.
It's the shaderssss
What were all forgetting here is that unless it's sockeye salmon, you might as well eat halibut.
Interesting that tech insider is covering this ..
you can also minimize it by cooking it slowly on low heat
But what if I'm gay?
Just read the description
"Bon appetit"
(Just lets the salmon sit there as credits roll)
This really made me want to eat salmon, thanks.
hi, what's the name of the music's theme? thanks!
Does someone know the name of the piece playing?!
Albumen with an "e" is the term for egg whites. Don't confuse it with albumin, the inadvertent by-product of cooking salmon.
so techy
I always get it even if it's basically taking it out of the river and throwing it through a fire
And it's like a barrier around the edge of the fish
I'm not sure why but it happens :7
Whats the music?? I love it
Love protein! :p
I thought it was some chemicals that the fishermen used to keep the fish fresh 🤣..now I can relaxed and eat
Nice
this was beatufiully shot
is it still normal for the albumin to be in your salmon when you ccut it oepm
Any idea what the song was? Sounds familiar...
Albumin dissolved in water and saturated neutral salt solutions
I Have always wanted a completely orange salmon
Im inspired
No wonder I get sick when eating salmon. I'm allergic to egg whites and albumin.
what was the point of the cup of salt water?
ive been eating it this whole time and it tastes good too xD
The Wacker Man i will
I wonder if doing it sous vide would work.
Its Gordon Ramsay's lamb sauce.😏
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Is the white gunk in some Alaskan crab legs the same stuff?
Glad I found this I threw away one of em but I'll try this
i cant find a darn of salmon anywhere except in portugal lol
Does this stuff happen on other meats?
Well if it's completely safe to eat then why should you worry about it? I don't care if my salmon looks a little funky, as long as it's not gonna kill me, I just want it in my mouth.
The Mind God Because some people are ignorant AF and then there will be a conspiracy theory around the Mysterious Salmon White Stuff....
I guess so. People get anxiety over anything nowadays...
That's sleezy sauce!! Lol
EAT IT UP! THATS GOOD BROTEIN! GET YOLKED MY BOYZ!
a brine with some lemon and honey would be dope
i was expecting a taste test at the end..
it's rawwwwww
Gordon Ramsey goes berserk at the sight of albumin.
Ya, it didn't bother me before but then I was like it's 1:54 of my life.. So..
I can't wait until the next time I eat salmon and somebody makes a fuss about the white stuff on it.
It's the salmon sea man
i SWEAR i was just thinking about this two weeks ago while cooking salmon loll, many thanks @techinsider😌😌😌😌
But dont you WANT the muscle fibers to contract rather than mush together?
Doesnt that ruin the texture of the meat?
is this the location of the lamb sauce?
So, whats wrong with that white thingy? is it bad for you? or it will make the fish taste bad?
What is gunk on boiling meat?
It's cheese burger mania coming to haunt your cheeseburgers and eat you sushi like there is a tomorrow
Nice to know I have another source of white-ish gooey protein in my diet..
What’s your @
its deliciousness. thats wat it is
0:56
Look at that one poor egg that is cracked

I think it's delicious
"clumpy white gunk"
Thank God its ALBUMIN
in my country it's brown
Protein is always good
must be studying, but instead I'm watching a video explaining how to cook salmon, fml
I wouldn´t listen to anyone who uses plastic tools to handle food in a frying pan...
Salmon jizz.
It's szechuan sauce.
how is this tech?
Is this the same white stuff that comes out of bacon? It looks similar
White gunk on salmon?!?!
Why would we care as much - It all goes in one way, comes out the other... ... ...
I don't mind eating that, is just fish after all with some protein.
please use the metric system
So, this is why Chef Ramsey is mad at salaams, very esgajly.
Pass the lamb sauce!
Albumin is natural and needed by your body. I have Systemic Lupus and once my feet swelt up like a pregnant woman's feet. I'm not pregnant or even close! I went to my doctor and he had my blood drawn and as soon as I walked in the door. The phone rang and he had me come in to get admitted into the hospital for about a week because I was deficit of Albumin. By the time I got back it hurt to put pressure on my feet. They itched, we're so puffy ant the skin was tight. It felt like they would split open. I had two IV's of Albumin for infusion therapy which took 8 hours to run. By the third day I was able to walk. I'm light skinned in tone but my feet turned dark, itched like mad, and all the loose stretched out top layer of skin peeled off. For a week afterwards I looked like I dipped my feet in Elmers glue like we did with our hands in grade school. That was the scariest, most uncomfortable thing that happened to me. So now I devour salmon, eggs and anything else with it in it.
Wtf
anyone else see that cracked egg in the pot
ITS THE LAMB SAUCE!
never had salmon
am i the only one that noticed them say "soak for 10 minutes" and they turn the timer to 30 ?
my salmon never has that any reason why
