Tundra is the best built 1500 category truck out there. This is an American truck built by Americans, its more American than the other Big 3's. I'll never buy any of the Big 3 until they can build a reliable truck like a Tundra.
Love this review. Big old school 5.7 liter v8 and Texas built. One bad ass truck. Wish the "American" trucks would return home and start building domestically again
I own the extended cab version of this truck. It's actually rated 11 & 17mpg, not 13 &17 as he stated. But, these are SAE ratings (not EPA). Just like their tow ratings, Toyota refuses to lie about the truck! I am averaging 14.9 in 50/50 driving, moderately aggressive. By comparison, the 2012 GMC Sierra I traded for it averaged 1 mpg better. I prefer this truck immensely. The Ram is always appealing, but I've never bought it. The F150 (I've owned 9 Fords) was a lame duck for 2014, although the 15 looks great. I am very pleased with this truck, with 15k on it so far.
The Ford F150 EcoBoost cost 10k more and it will take you 20 yrs to recover the cost. Plus the repair cost and recalls on the EcoBoost...will take another infinity years to recover. The Ecoboost ...shall i say is PRICELESS.
I love my 14 TRD SR5 5.7 Tundra! It always makes me giggle when I drive by people driving F150, Ram 1500, Silverado, and they all rubberneck. Makes me wonder if they are all looking back at their trucks and seriously questioning their 40K purchase. 😆
I have this same speced truck with 80k miles now. I live and farm in south iowa. Lots of gravel (loose limestone rock) roads. This truck is fabulous! When trailer towing it has a bit of droop due to the suspension travel. We have cattle and grain farm. This thing hasn't let us down one day. I wasn't keen on this truck because it was a "foreign branded truck" but it has won me over. It handles like a rally car and pulls like a beast! Please get a diesel in this truck line! Thanks Toyota!
I love these trucks, but i don't know why. Maybe because where i live in Europe we can only get the smaller Hilux. Also only 2 engine options for it: 144 or 170 HP. I'd love to drive a V8 powered Raptor or a Tundra one day!
I'm from the south so trucks are big down here...that being said I don't understand the appeal of the Tundra over the competition? Excluding the Titan, the other pickups seem to be much better value for money, with nicer interiors, more comfortable rides, and are more economical. Can anyone tell me why someone would buy a Tundra?
I guess it just depends on brand preference. Toyota does have a reputation for reliability. I personally might take the Tundra over the ram being there made in mexico and well that speaks for itself. The Eco diesel is fiat sourced and do you really want a fiat powering your ram? Silverado on the other hand while fuel efficient you have to realize that "Ford beating fuel economy(By one mpg I might add)" comes from turning off four cylinders and again that speaks for itself in a 5000 pound truck. The f150 is actually like the tundra in lot more ways than you think. It doesn't have to lie where it's from or what's powering it. The ecoboost engine is probably the best engine in a truck beside the occasional overheating turbo. So in conclusion why you might buy a tundra. The tundra has no secrets it tries to lock away in it's closet. Bullet proof dependability. Realistically enough power to tow most of anything you might need it to. Made in Texas. And in my opinion it a pretty nice looking truck too. Looks can be deceiving so do a little research if that didn't help, I tried lol.
Interesting point. Yes, the reliability of the Tundra is an important factor. Addressing the Fiat powered Ram...I don't really mind if the engine works well, and supposedly the V6 eco-diesel is a very promising power plant. Not only that but as we all know, it's been Motortrend truck of the year two years in a row. That's no joke. As for the GM trucks...I don't really trust any GM product right now because of the recalls, but interior/comfort wise the Silverado/Sierra has the Tundra pinned. That as well as power, and in my opinion looks. Considering the new F-150 is coming out soon, that, for me is the obvious choice. I am slightly biased as my last two cars have been Fords, but I genuinely think the new Ford truck is going to be class leading. As for the Tundra, every one I see is quite a bit more expensive than the competition, and it has a crappy Toyota interior.
randomocityvideos Something interesting about Ram getting truck of the year. There was actually a rule in place that the Ram technically shouldn't have been allowed to enter the second time but somebody at motor trend went f*ck the police and let it in anyway. Part of the reason the tundra is a bit more expensive is to give the Taco breathing room. There is word that the same might happen to the silverado/sierra twins when the Colorado/Canyon twins come out. And I agree that when the new F150 comes out it will definatly out class everything else out there. And while the yeah the tundra kinda has yaris interior, it's functional and and when you step up to higher trims it's not so bad.
TexasDragon3907 All true. And yeah, technically the Ram shouldn't have competed...but I would suppose there was a shortage of competition in the pickup truck market, so they kinda had to. But I'm a big interior man, so that does matter to me but I would guess that a lot of truck buyers don't care as much about the interior, and it does look nice. It has it's upsides but I'm just not quite convinced.
Why the engine oil pressure gage is showing high??? is there problem in the vehicle??/ as i have Tundra 2013 but i feel the engine oil pressure gage is not normal as you accelerate the gage rises to high level ???? anybody can help ???
ibrahim allawie I have a 2013 Tundra and before that I had a 2004 Tundra. With second gen. Tundras the gages work little different. It actually shows you what is the actual pressure at that moment. Its more accurate , It freaked me out too..then called dealer and explained to me how it works..hope this helps
Trucks with better fuel economy tends to have more recalls and more powertrain problems that require people to go back to the dealer for warranty repairs on their time and money spent on the gas. Also, tundra owners don't have worry about carbon build up.
@@abiodunoyewole5258 , trucks cannot be very fuel efficient. If you are looking for fuel efficient vehicle, it must be a car hybrid ant year or diesel car before 2007.
its crazy how this small japanese brand became such a big deal in the us! i guess kia and hyundai will get bigger soon. im definetly no ricer fan but they work hard for succes as it seems
dude i think you all get me wrong... back when they came to the us they were cars to abuse and maybe laugh at. all other companys had like 50 or more years of success befor ricers gave it a try. today you can proudly say i own a brand new tundra and people will say wow what is it like? no one will laugh
Yvan Herrera they do payments like everybody else.. or you can buy a used truck and do the payments to your mechanic...either way you pay. what would you chose ?
+TheLaszlo5876 i would pay to have the toyota and skip the mechanic ;) Let the f150s and gmc guys pay the mechanic. dodge, well they'll just be sitting at the dealer waiting for parts...
I still don't get, why Americans want gasoline engines for their trucks, diesel would be WAY better.. Much more torque, better for pulling, better milage, better everything.. Makes no sense to me, but yeah 'Murica!
Most muricans don't use trucks for what they were ment too. Most people that buy this truck or similar trucks they buy them for the looks and the big v8s.
Most americans really do want deisel engines in their pickups. I think they chose a gas toyota over a deisel chevy or ford because of the reliability that goes with the toyota name. Im in the same situation.
Can't be much worse than the Tundra we have at work. I'm a big guy at 7'1" but the climate control knobs and infotainment buttons are cartoonishly huge even to me. We've gone through 3 transmissions in as many years and even when they're new, the truck never feels like it is satisfied with the gear choice often hunting...and in my experience it's worse in comfort modr than tow/haul. The interior plastics are bargain basement (but we knew that since we made the machines that make the parts) and the ride is worse than our 2000 F150 "your turn to try and kill it" work horse that gets stuck with the really tough jobs. The difference between our 2010 Tundra and 2014 Silverados is incredible. It's like hopping out of my old Jeep and into my Audi. The truck feels more planted and stable, especially with a trailer, fuel efficiency is dramatically different, I think it's better in just about every aspect. The only thing the Tundra had on it is a bit more grunt when the pedal is all the way down but the Silverado feels like it's got more midrange torque. I don't think we will try another Tundra.
ill be the party crasher and say that the bumper is just mounted to the chassis frame which is separate from the truck body so then they both would move differently.
You guys need to stop giving different specs on the vehicles you FLD Tour when talking about them than what what's written in the 'Fast Facts.' Does the Tundra get 13 or 14 mph city? And if this is the difference between estimated and observed, then please make that clear. Otherwise, to me at least, it sounds like you guys don't know your own facts. guy proulx Yeah, thats why American trucks are consistently the highest rated, highest selling and longest lasting. Keep buying your foreign junk. I'll buy American and support my American neighbor while you support a foreign country and someone who doesn't know or care who you are.
Chris K the tundra is 100% built in texas by americans who support their families, the big 3 have mexicans, canadians, chinese ect buildind their trucks so they can get cheap labor and yet sell them for as much as tundras, you can make anything last forever as long as you keep repairing them, toyota has a way better resale value because they are QDR, quality, durability and reliability, i know i've owned fords gm and toyota, my toy has been way more reliable by far
guy proulx Smh. Please do just a little research before opening your pie hole. The F150 is the most American vehicle you can buy. Period. Besides that it doesn't matter where its assembled if all of the profits go to a foreign country. Thats what people don't get about buying foreign cars that are simply assembled in the US. Its an easy brainwashing ploy to make simple minded people think and say the exact things that you are. That and it saves them money to assemble the product here. Its much more costly to ship an entire assembled vehicle than it is to ship the parts separately. Despite what fallacies you may believe, US auto companies provide WAY more American jobs than any foreign company. The Tundra is assembled in the US with mostly foreign parts. I grew up near the steel stamping plants and factories that make parts for American cars. There is a difference between MADE in America and ASSEMBLED in America. Again, you're in America, you're free to do as you please, but I'm tired of hearing people like you complain about the American economy while you continue to buy foreign product and ignore the consequences. Profits are important, if all the profit is being sent out to a foreign country its irrelevant where the product is assembled.
Chris K i've owned domestics and was always in the shop spending my hard earned money on parts and labor, my tundra is far more reliable than all my domestics were, i will spend my money on foreign vehicles from now on, i've learned an expensive lesson, i'd rather spend my money on foreign cars than give it to the government so they can lend billions on bailout money to companies that build junk, the UAW killed the american auto industry with high pensions, too bad they got bailed out , there would be less junk on the roads

God Job Tom!

Where in NJ?
I love how the rear window goes completely down.
that is a ln awesome feature
I don't think the grille is large enough, it should be at least 20% larger.
No rear locker?
Nice review, do you have a review on Tacomas?
Beautiful tundra, truck!
My dad has a Toyota Tundra and it is maxed out like all the extra stuff
I miss FLD!!!!!!!
Where's the guy from the Jaguar review I like him I demand him now!
new FLDetours review coming soon!

Where does the "Throw hammers in back," come from?
Its on one of the episodes where some guy asked why Americans love trucks so much.
It's a running joke that FLD makes whenever they do a truck story.
Just wait till the new Titan comes out.... That'll be the best truck in the 1500 class again.
nissan lol please get real
Haha! You have a great sense of humor dude. Nissan! Haha
13 cup and bottle holders? The truck seats only 5 people, right? Seems a little excessive.
I own a 2 door Tacoma that has 9 bottle and cup holders, it's a Toyota thing.
Its simply bc america.
Americans love excess. I've seen a $50,000,000 house with 6 bedrooms...20 bathrooms.
It seems excessive until you take a long trip or long day at work. In those cases, I often have them all full.
Cup holders often end up being stuff holders.
I live in California, and will never go off road and I want it
Why not exhaust note
Dude gas mileage does suck but I love my tundra :) 75,000 mile warranty but we all know they last longer than that

Laurynas Chevy 1500, made in Mexico throw some Tacos in the back.
Still junk. Buy a real truck, buy American.
hahahaha, if you want junk you buy american
guy proulx Yeah, thats why American trucks are consistently the highest rated, highest selling and longest lasting.
