    This video is from like 2 years ago, so I'm here late... but just want to say I've seen several videos on DBs and this is the CLEAREST and most straight forward. It's like the stuff I don't understand the others explaining is FINALLY making sense! Thanks bro!!! 🥳🥳

  • @barryvideoyt

    Carter, this is the best explanation of Notion that I've seen yet. I've been following you for a while and I really enjoy your videos. One question: if I create a page database, then create a linked database say on my homepage. Then I delete the linked database on the home page, will the original page database be deleted also. I want to avoid that. Thanks, Oh, and you should rename the "search" bar to the "Surach" bar! 😁

    • @ProductiveDude
      @ProductiveDude  3 роки тому +3

      Thanks for the kind words!
      Now the answer to your question is:
      If you delete the linked database the full page won't get deleted. If you delete pages out of the linked database however it will effect the full page database. That's the benefit of using full page database. They're much more flexible and easy to save and store even if you don't want to use them on the front of your homepage anymore. Make sense?

    Hey, thanks man, that was helpful. I wonder if you could help me with a question. Re: “How to Relate Database” is there a way I could have the relation setup such that from within the “book” I could click the relational link to “notes” and create new record that will automatically relate back to the book. As it is now, when I click the relational link from within the book, I have the option to create a new record in the notes database, but I have to manually relate that note back to the book. Basically, I want the system to assume that when I create a new record in a linked database that I must want it linked back to the record I just came from (to the exclusion of all others)

    • @ProductiveDude
      @ProductiveDude  2 роки тому +1

      You can’t put two databases on a full page database because that page IS a database.
      Create a blank page.
      Then, type into the page: “/column” tap the two column option.
      Next, type in the left column “/create” and you should see “linked database”. Use that block type, then select the database you want to see on the left.
      Repeat the last step in the right column with your second database that you want to connect.
      Does that make sense?

    This is a very nice, clear run-down on databases. I would like to see a bit more detail and capability for when you are relating databases together. For some reason, I'm unable to get a "full page" edit mode for a database page...when I click on the "OPEN" in the field, I only get the "Open in Side Peek" option...it never opens a full page. Perhaps this was a later new feature of Notion that wasn't in previous versions when this video was being made last year?

      @@suvn89 I suggest keeping them as full page databases and adding them ALL as pages to your 'database page'.

    I'm sorry for the noob question. How to copy a row of cells from a google sheet into the database table in notion? I don't want to integrate any google sheet into notion. Just a simple copy and paste. Thanks!
