Former Hollywood Video workers represent 🤘 My manager would play the Star Wars prequels CONSTANTLY. During the yoda lightsaber fight he'd make us all stop what we were doing and watch 🤣
That movie is such a trip & underrated piece of cinema. I worked at Hollywood video for many years & would put on it, Donnie Darko, and for the late night crowd - Showgirls 😂
I worked at the blockbuster corporate headquarters all the way until the end. I still have a stack of 100 new membership cards and a ton of other random branded giveaways. It was a lot of fun working at the office in downtown Dallas. They would bring by different actors that would stop by every cubicle to talk with us and sign movie posters.

That's awesome!!!! Hey, is there any chance you're selling any of those membership cards or branded giveaways? I live in Fort worth Texas. Thanks in advance!
I worked as an Assistant Manager in a couple different stores, and it was always like corporate had no idea what actually went on in the stores with real customers. We would get paperwork or a so-called training video, watch it, and look at each other saying They think this is going to work in the stores? We did it anyway, as it was our job and the DM had to visit every few weeks. But even he would agree on some things saying once you go above a certain point in corporate, you have no idea what really goes on in the stores yet you are making decisions and policies for those stores. The mom and pops video store that we had in the block buster era was garbage. I remember they only had season 1 and 2 of Bones, when the series was up to season 5 or 6. The video store also sold liquor, I guess that's how they made their money.
This takes me down memory lane to the days of renting movies, spending $600 bucks on a new VCR back in early 80s and microwave pop corn for the first time...ahhh the good ole days. Good stuff Adam as usual. Thank you sir.
I remember seeing new VHS movies selling for like $80 or $90 in the mid-80s, which seems insane now. That was probably closer to $200 in today's money.
In the 90s Blockbuster was a regular part of my life, the excitement of going in and seeing the latest movies and buying some of the ex rental ones, our local store used to to make its own fresh popcorn 🍿 😊
This was my childhood the sweet nostalgia I remember every Friday going with my dad spending hours on hours browsing the movies how I'd love to have blockbuster back.
My first job back in 1993 was at an independent video rental place here in the UK I can confirm we made way more money on the late and rewind fees Amazing trip down memory lane Adam!!!!
I really enjoyed video stores and Blockbuster thank you for going here lots of memories I really miss those days very cool watching you show us all the old movies and stuff.
I worked for a Blockbuster Video in Hollywood CA. Was so much fun back then. I MET Barbara Hershey working there. She was really nice. Was just there to rent some videos. Thanks for this vlog Adam!!!
Blockbuster Video was a big part of my adolescence. I worked there through High School. It's difficult to explain to my children what Blockbuster was all about and the experience you would get going there for a movie or video game rental. Thanks for sharing Adam!
Seeing all the old Steve Martin films made me think back to win "Parenthood" was filmed next door to my grandfather's house. I was living there and remember the production crew knocking to ask permission to film the exterior of his house. It was Franks house and it was filmed on Smith St. In College Park. (Orlando, Fl). Crazy how Blockbuster brought those memories back
That's one of the reasons why I like traveling to the USA, apart from visiting family. The Americans are just brutally stuck in the 80s. In my area, one of the last extremely rare video stores closed for good with the pandemic. I am very happy to have been a child in this 80s golden era.
I still have my Blockbuster membership card I miss renting VHS or DVD's movies those were the good old days the kids today don't know what we had growing up.
I remember the first video I ever rented (back when buying tapes was $80.) It was The Empire Strikes Back. What an amazing feeling being able to watch that movie again after so long!
@@Michael_HuntI’m right there with you about preferring Hollywood Video. I thought it was a much nicer video store. I was really surprised when all the sudden, they all closed.
I have such great memories of going to movie rental places. From big ones like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video, to small ones like Stardust in Winter Park.
Oh sweet memories. Thank you for sharing this. My brothers wife owned a video store in San Francisco. It was called Le Video on 9th Ave. I always rented movies from Blockbuster because I did not live in the city. I miss those days!!
Do you remember in the malls Suncoast Motion Picture Company where they sold (not rented) VHS's? ;p That was my first mall job in 1993, I remember the new releases would be around $100 for the first week or two- for a VHS!! LOL Ah, 1990's mall nostalgia!!!
The movies were $100 because of Blockbuster. They would refuse to rent new movies if the Studios were selling them at a normal price. The studios had to go along with it because Blockbuster was so huge and rental profits would be $0 if Blockbuster didn't carry it. They called all the shots in those days.
A lot of bittersweet nostalgia here. So many fond memories of growing up with Blockbuster weekends with my family. My sister and I were even allowed to pick out a video game most times. We so looked forward to it. There really isn't anything like it in modern society/culture. I feel it was a defining feature of my generation's (millennial) youth. Every once in a while, I'll get a random whiff of something plastic-y, and I'm instantly transported back to the Blockbuster store, which always smelled like the plastic movie cases. While it definitely brings back happy memories, it also hurts a little bit, to know that it's an era past, something I can never go back to. Time is strange...
Wow! Why do I feel that lady you were talking to should be your wife! 😊 and she is cute. You need to ask her over to watch a movie with you!!! Well if you both don’t have someone already.
I loved going to video stores. Go out and do stuff during the day. Go to eat. On the way home we'd stop and pick up a movie or two. Great way to end the night.
Great memories as teenager's going to BLOCKBUSTERS video's renting or buying VHS Tapes then later dvds later on. And buying microwave popcorn and candy from there too. And my fiancée told me that they used to rent out video games also? My fiancée still has his Blockbusters card from them. We both had some really great memories separately of this store back in the day's when it was still normal and thing's were much cheaper too. We will always miss this company and the rentals ect.... Great video. Good job!! 👏 👏. This place will be really missed forever by use kid's that's from the 80's and 90s. We still wish that they still had much more Blockbusters around now a days. I kn of just one up north that's still around. And i kn that they do sale there t-shirts and stuff like that online. They need to bring these back again 😢😢🤩🤩. We both just miss these things like this.
Just want to say thanks Mr. Woo for posting all these neat videos, from Mega Con to Disney. I've been recovering from a partial Knee replacement since December "23, and my Mom and me couldn't get out much. So watching your videos on Mega Con, Epcot Flower Festival, and so on was a real treat. We're originally from Lake County, so keep posting and we'll keep watching! 😀
Never had a Blockbuster in my country but I miss the old video rental stores 😅 good to see that pop up stores are existing and doing a blockbuster rerun 😊
Man! That takes me back to better time! Loved going to the video store and renting a movie 🎥 or two, grabbing some movie candy and going back to the house 🏠 and having an awesome movie night with friends!
Blockbuster was one of my college jobs. I wasn’t a fan of the late nights in the area where the store was located. In fact, there was a police standoff in front of the store on one of my days off. I saw it live on the news and called my manager to warn them. That’s when I knew it was time to find something safer. 🤪
I've collected hundreds of those clamshell cased classic movies from Goodwill for 50 cents a pop. I had to find and repair a few VCRs for the kids to watch them all, but well worth it to share my childhood experiences with my kids..
Honestly, this is incredible! The fact that they're even going around to abandoned stores and preserving what is left is extremely cool! Truly something special! They definitely need a UA-cam channel to vlog their exploration! I'd love to see all the amazing goodies they've uncovered from locations just sitting abandoned.
Neat idea. I worked at a small video store chain back in the 90s when I was in school. I think it was $1.00 per tape that was not rewound. Enforcement was hit or miss depending on the clerk. I usually took the fee off. Made the customer happy.
Adam. I was a manager for blockbuster for two years back in 2006. Didn't make a lot but it was fun. Did this gig while going to college. About the late fees. Yes our store made a lot of money off of late fees and candy and drinks
Awesome little exhibit there! There are some great deals to be had there if those movies are truly just 5 dollars each, especially sealed VHS and some slipcovers.
I remember seeing a clip of ghost dad when I was about three. I thought it was the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. For years I tried searching for the movie and had no idea what the name of the movie was. Thanks to your video, that question has now been answered.
I rented from Blockbuster a few times. We had a music and video distributor in our town, so they opened their own rental store. It was inside an old skating rink. They built the floor on top of the skating surface, so the floor would bounce when you walked on it. Their inventory was immense, and they always had some great deals. Ah!!! Those were the days.
Omg this brings me back, my bff and I would go every Saturday to blockbuster, go down the horror section and rent every movie there. Dolls was our favorite 😂❤
I was one of those strange people who did not go to the new releases. I went to the older ones so I can have more time to watch them and hell I would watch them more than once!
Wow. This was really awesome. One of the 2 Block Busters near me still sits abandoned to this day. I got to go inside about a year or 2 ago. There wasn’t anything left but paint and rugs.
OMG! They have the Kinyo VHS rewinder 😂😂😂 I remember putting my VHS tapes in there and watching it and fun fact I still have it! God I miss Blockbuster these younglings have no idea how good we had it
Thank you for sharing this adventure at Block Busters AND for mentioning Places in the heart I LOVED that movie you are so right about have a great day
My mom used to be a gm for a Blockbuster store that was brand new, grew up watching movies and playing games with the free weekly rentals perk they gave employees. Don't remember the smocks but I do recall the blue/yellow lined polos that she had. Great walk-thru of the experience Adam! They are just missing the full walls of new releases and games section!
I love it when I see clamshell cases brings back so many memories renting those back in the day. I’m a big physical media guy myself I hope it doesn’t leave.
I worked at a mom and pop video store when I was a freshman in college same age as Adam. I loved it. When it closed I applied at the Blockbuster up the street from it and they told me I had to shave my goatee and mustache off which I didn’t mind doing but didn’t end out getting the job because they were dedicated to hiring people in high school lol. I had aged out at 20
I was big on the local mom and pop ones no matter where I was. They had some of the more obscure movies. Blockbuster tried to be too family friendly at one time that it limited them on some movies. I do remember when Blockbuster came around it shut out a lot of the independent ones which was sad. I still have a little nostalgia for Blockbuster though. This is very cool to see.
Our family worked in local chain stores. Blockbuster came in and shut everything down. Literally told us that they will buy us out or shut us down, in those exact words. F Blockbuster.
Almost every weekend me and the family would go to Blockbuster load up on movies and video games then we'd pickup some pizzas and stay up late as hell having a blast I miss those days so much 🤦🏻♂️
Wow brings back a lot of memories. I work for CBS/FOX video and Technicolor in Michigan for over 27 years. Made over 2 billion VHS tapes and over 2 billion CDs.
20 years ago when I would go on Fridays for my weekend movie, I never would've imagined it would become a huge piece of nostalgia to the point they would have a traveling experience. This looks amazing but nothing will ever replace that original experience of the yellow lightning, that smell, the excitement when you'd see that new movie showing on the new section. And the snacks were part of that experience! I'd always remember looking to see if I wanted popcorn, candy, etc
I've been trying for a couple years to source a center store shelf for sale. The fully wooden ones, not the wire metal ones. I want to build a game room and put some games on it as a nod to Blockbuster video game rentals... I honestly miss Blockbuster. I hate having to own 6 different streaming services to find the movie I'm looking for. 90% of the time the movies I wanted to see were sitting in my Oneida NY Blockbuster. Plus, it was an experience. Just being in the store, smelling the popcorn smell and the process of looking through everything was something special that we just don't have anymore.
Fun video that brought back memories. I had one right across the street from where I worked. I would stop in every week on my lunch break browse and weekly rent. Adam, your taste in movie are similar to mine. I just donated most of my videos a few months ago.
People don't remember how things used to be. I applied at Blockbuster back in 1995? I'm a guy and I had near waist-length long hair which took years to grow out. It was well kept. The interviewer asked me if I would be willing to cut my hair to work there. I was a bit blindsided with the request and had to ponder it before replying with either "I don't know" or a straight "No". Needless to say I never received a call back. Silly too because I saw a male employee with long hair at a more centrally located downtown location around that same time frame. I then got a job at a grocery store and guess what? They made me put my hair back and tuck it underneath the back of my dress shirt. I no longer have long hair, but I'm glad times have changed in that regard.
That’s so cool, this was so nostalgic, movie gallery here in Alabama was my favorite over blockbuster, I keep hoping queen will bring their pop up store to America so I can get some Freddie mercury stuff
FYI….Radio Shack and Pioneer Chicken are opening next door to Blockbuster next month😂
I’m all for a pioneer chicken resurgence !
Is that next too the Tower Records ???
Or Sam Goody and Circuit City
Don't forget K Mart, Quincy's Steakhouse, Payless, and Service Merchandise!😊

I remember seeing a clip of ghost dad when I was about three. I thought it was the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen. For years I tried searching for the movie and had no idea what the name of the movie was. Thanks to your video, that question has now been answered.
I rented from Blockbuster a few times. We had a music and video distributor in our town, so they opened their own rental store. It was inside an old skating rink. They built the floor on top of the skating surface, so the floor would bounce when you walked on it. Their inventory was immense, and they always had some great deals. Ah!!! Those were the days.
What a throwback video. I remember going here when I was a little kid it seems like decades ago. Good memories
Omg this brings me back, my bff and I would go every Saturday to blockbuster, go down the horror section and rent every movie there. Dolls was our favorite 😂❤
That was a great dose of nostalgia, i remember going to the grocery store and renting movies as a kid.
Wow, I miss Blockbuster, picking up some N64 games and a movie with my dad for the weekend. Nostalgia overload 🥹
That was awesome, as was Julie! Boy, I'd really love to sit around and talk shop with her. Her movie love and knowledge is just remarkable :)
Woo you and I could sit and talk about movies and who was in them for hours! I have sooo many movies stored!
I would love for Blockbuster to come back!!!
OMG! They have the Kinyo VHS rewinder 😂😂😂 I remember putting my VHS tapes in there and watching it and fun fact I still have it! God I miss Blockbuster these younglings have no idea how good we had it
God I miss blockbuster video, that was my time back then, I hope more retro stuff make a comeback.
Wow, cool that they thought to do this. Looks like a fun experience...
I feel like my husband would love taking movies with you . haha
I do really miss going into a movie rental place and picking out some movies for the weekend.
Man I’m so grateful to have experienced this as a kid
This unlocked so many memories I forgot I had.
Thank you for the awesome memories Adam. You never disappoint with your videos. They are always good.
I love it when I see clamshell cases brings back so many memories renting those back in the day. I’m a big physical media guy myself I hope it doesn’t leave.
I REMEMBER BLOCKBUSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This video is like a breath of fresh air! The visuals are so vibrant and captivating,
Really enjoyed it. Thanks. I'm a huge physical media nut. Enjoying the channel. Keep it up.
I was there I used to work at blockbuster in Pittsburgh back in the day it was so good to be in a retro environment
I worked at a video store in 1998 but it was an artsy store. They had normal movies but also a lot of foreign films, documentaries and stuff.
Maybe you could build one? My older brother is considering that.
i miss Blockbuster, i always go there and rent those VHS tapes and DVD's when i was kid
This was so much fun! So nostalgic! Thank you, Mr. Woo!
Fun video that brought back memories. I had one right across the street from where I worked. I would stop in every week on my lunch break browse and weekly rent. Adam, your taste in movie are similar to mine. I just donated most of my videos a few months ago.
How did Adam never work at a movie theater?! As a former projectionist myself, it would have been the perfect job.
Movie galley was great !
