The Time Agent is now being made into a feature film with the writer of John Wick and the producers of the Predator franchise & Sicario.
What would you want The Time Agent feature film to explore that was hinted at in the short film?

That's great! I hope they keep the same South Korean setting. Does he go back? Or the time machine only works for a single person? Where is the girl? Will he take her with him? Will she finally go to space? Or be another time agent? What about his own life? Will it be an alternate timeline? So many questions. Edit: maybe saving her life is what will ultimately cause his divorce. The same way he caused others to split or never met. I really don't know how time travel works.

I loved the scene of the two of them working together then exiting the apartment Pulp Fiction style. It had the feel of someone who has the doldrums from their job/day to day, but hadn't realized it yet. Too used to routine to dream that there maybe more and might be reopening their eyes again.
I also liked the setting since the it might not have worked well in a western city like NYC or LA. Too many nosy neighbors/busy bodies/Karens for a shutin MC to be discreet.
I wouldn't mind more of a backstory on the government agency he worked for. How do they know saving the airline disaster victims won't lead to further harm? Their point of view is only fixed from that time, not further on.
This short if turned into a film can go SO MANY different directions, I can wait to see what the writers do!

Giving the pill to the girl was a test, she takes the pill because she understands what is at stake, innocent lives and proves she is worthy of becoming an agent. What follows is her training allowing the guy to return to the future and the woman he loved.

I see it saying that any time that is now is the important time. Like reincarnation or any other view of an afterlife or not, they set a context of a story that serves to remind us that we are here now. It doesn’t matter when you are, or if you know the future or the past, the now time is all that matters and it’s beautiful, bittersweet, and then it’s gone.

However, this one was elegant and left me with just enough room to speculate but not to the point where I talk myself out of the story line. Outstanding! This short movie says more with just the sub text in a few minutes than many full blown movies do with a lot of spoken words. It is also almost devoid of showing any emotion on the outside but left me strangely moved by it all. Beneath the surface, like an onion, there are layers upon layers of hidden meaning and feelings. The main point in this story is that the traveler knowing that since the girl dies (according to the archives killed herself in the past )- then so must she die in his version of reality. He can only travel back to his time once the girl dies (hence reason why the time machine re-engages by itself at the end). The message - we are not really in control - we only think we are - our decisions are just the sum of all our experiences and thoughts and so everything is pre-destined.

The ending is a little ambiguous, but it's okay because the story of the one week spent with that girl is what it's actually about. The story itself is clear and provoking without being vague and confusing like many other shorts on this channel. Two thumbs up!!

Theory to this short (spoiler alert).
Hm so he says that 19yrs from now (when he says it) he got married and then lived together with his wife for 3yrs and then got divorced (because he loved her) and then time traveled back to 5yrs ago.
If my math is correct that's 27years total which is also when he says he started his mission (he says in the beginning that 27yrs later the baby would kill hundreds of people). So I'm guessing that he had a kid, kid died in the event and ended up divorcing his wife because of it and decided to time travel back in order to stop the attack and fix everything (including his life later in the future). But, for a fleeting moment, he's happy by meeting the girl but realizes that by meeting her, he's put the mission at risk and now has a "choice" between saving the girl and risking the lives of hundreds (including his future loved ones). But he also knows that the "choice" presented to him isn't really a choice because, "choice is an illusion."

Or maybe he's actually the kid and because he met the girl he didn't take the mission given to him at the end and that's what caused the people to die. Or maybe...he's the kid and because he caused the couple to break up one of them grew bitter and blew the plane he gets the pictures of up. A plane that size normally holds about 300 ppl. He said he worked for the government so maybe it was an assassination, but an assassination by manipulation. After all he is dressed how you normally see professional hitmen dressed in movies, using Sam J and John T in Pulp Fiction as examples.

belinda hawkins...So you are NOT a Christian?
      Ephesians 1:4-5 ESV
Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. *In love he predestined us* for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,
      Romans 8:28-30 ESV
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. *For those whom he foreknew he also predestined* to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.
      Ephesians 1:5 ESV
*He predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will,*
      Romans 8:29 ESV
For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.
      John 15:16 ESV
You did not choose me, *but I chose you* and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
Christ Jesus is the way, the Truth and the Life. There is only death without Him.
      You have no choice.
      You never had a choice.
You never will have a choice.
      You are chosen...or not.
Are you declaring that Jesus is a liar and a deceiver?
Are you telling me that the Apostle Paul is deceptive?

We get to see the evolution of the main character from professional detachment / boredom to making a personal connection that puts everything he's worked for in jeopardy, makes him question his role. And even though it ends in sadness, I'm left feeling that he's changed for the better.

    I forgot the Easter eggs.
Near the beginning a bookshelf is covered by a music book. You get a quick glimpse of the book "Mad Dogs", "Open Door", and "Norwegian Experience".
Mad Dogs is about CIA agents driven insane by their experiences.
Open Door is about a town that is named after the local insane asylum.
Norwegian Experience I don't get, unless Mr. Chun was unable to find an English copy of "Norwegian Wood", which is a Japanese novel about emotional trauma and insanity.
I do not understand Korean. Does anyone see the same theme in the Korean titles at the 4:10 mark?

  • @freddavis976
    @freddavis976 6 років тому +28

What a clever and thought provoking film. Jude Chun has created a psychological thriller that reminds of Hitchcock's films or Minette Walters' novels. Even the title is a clue that misleads us. According to the main character the time agent is someone who lives day by day and after 365 days they have traveled a year. That is all of us. So, either he is not a time traveler or we all are. Also, I have not seen a hokier time machine since Dr. Who.
This is a story of man suffering a psychological break from reality. Rather than deal with the pain of a breakup, and his part in it, the character creates a job where emotions aren't allowed, Time Agent. I like that Jude does not go into detail about the breakup. The character only says "I loved her too much". Does this me he could not cope with the pain of sharing her with the baby or that he developed a monstrous jealousy of the baby. I suspect it is the latter, since he attributes a disaster to the baby, which he as a time agent prevents. This affirms his new identity while casting the baby as the monster. All he has to do is read the story of Flight NZ90 where 294 people did not die, tweak the details in his mind, and he saved all those people.
At one point the time agent says there is no choice. Jude uses the time machine in fashion to illustrate this question that is borderline genius. The time agent must obey whatever orders (actual or inferred) that he receives from the future. he has no choice. However, he is the one writing the orders. He drops them in the box with a bit of dry ice, sets a timer to light up the machine, and immediately "forgets" doing it. He then anxiously awaits his next message. The timer goes off. The lights start blinking. He opens the box in a cloud of dry ice and receives his orders, which he wrote. He has no choice but to obey, except he wrote the order. He can walk where he wants, eat what he wants, smoke when he wants, even notice a girl, but can someone in that psychological state be free to choose what orders they write? Have you ever met someone who's opinion was so strong that they could not allow facts that were contrary. Are they free to choose? Have you ever had a strong opinion? Fantastic work Mr. Chun.
The girl is the time agent's chance at redemption. She is his chance to make a connection to the world. She connects with him not his fantasy. She just nods at his wild story about time travel, but asks about his divorce. She becomes a conspirator in his mission to destroy the relationship between the couple. When she is bargaining to stay he asks,"What would you do here?" and her gentle confrontation is "What do you do here?". Ultimately, he turns down redemption. I kept being reminded of the Christian conundrum. Can a creature of free will turn down an all powerful God's gift of redemption? Once again, is there choice.
The ending was perfect. Now that he has helped kill his only chance at redemption the time machine activates. Now it is different. He is no longer anxiously awaiting the answer. His break is so complete that now he has forgotten that he "forgot" that he put the order inside. He needs to #getdusted.

The agent seems weirdly uninterested in the girl, but I guess he's selected or trained for this, he's not supposed to have ANY interaction with anyone. Don't you think almost anyone would be a little curious about how she came to this?
The girl seems shockingly uninterested in anything but love... it looks like she must have just had some kind of romantic or family disaster... it's really hard to sympathize with someone who can say: Oh, time machine, well who cares? Tell me more about your marriage! I can't tell if this is a kind of a cartoon about girl nature, or a profound insight into girl nature, or just a picture of a specific person having a really terrible life. Fortunately it's short so I can watch it a few times. I might make some Shin Ramen with an egg just to get into it more. I'd smoke a cigarette if I had one....

The main thing I'm suffering about is - why is he freaking out about the new orders in the time machine at the end? My best guess is that he is worried his interference has caused a huge problem. At the same time, he's even more concerned that the package will show that he shouldn't have helped Moon commit suicide. He misses her a lot.
    I wouldn't want his job.
That part where he had just explained how he traveled back in time, she brushes that off and asks relationship oriented questions. Had to watch the whole "movie" a second time just to experience that again.

My take on it: he gave her an empty pill and perhaps either brought her back to the time or set her free (or she set him free). Since in the future she might not have committed suicide, she lived, which in turn could've upset the agency, because he interfered. Which could explain why he was surprised, perhaps even afraid of the papers he might've gotten on that time-mail.
That's only my take on all of this. Still: a great short imo.

He states how important it is not to affect anything else in the mission, how every little thing is connected. So when he stops that baby who going to cause 274 to die, thats 274 people whose interactions will exponentially cause millions if not billions of now altered outcomes than if they were dead. How could all of those be benign, does't a time traveler screw up the timeline no matter what they do or dont? Loved the film though.

Dude... it's a movie. There are 99 huge problems with the plot, as with all movies, especially sci-fi. Either suspend disbelief and enjoy it anyway (as you did) or just move on.

    • @ColdWarVet607
      @ColdWarVet607 4 роки тому +1

@@RangeWilson Yep thats true, I thought of that as well, its easy to pick apart a script but then you'd have no movies. But as long as there have been movies, there have been analysis of them which has up'd the plots and scripts to perfection. It was more a discussion of time travel, than the movie. I watched a different movie with time travel and remember the traveler explaining the same thing to others, that just by coming back he forever changed the time line. Lesson is, Dont mess with Mother Nature.

That was one of the most interesting time travel themes that I have ever watched. Yet in the beginning of the movie he gave the girl a umbrella. And yet he never decided to go back to his wife in the future 18 years

I've seen about a dozen DUST productions so far and this is the best written story by far. I'm not sure why some have called for more explanation or think the ending is ambiguous. It's not the most science-y. There's not a ton of CGI. It is more like old school sci-fi where the science was a vehicle for the story, not the story itself. Well done.

I didn't think of that! On the other hand, she seems to be gone presently. Do you think she got up in the morning and moved out? Now there's someone walking around that knows time travel is possible! This seems like a serious problem for the agent. But... I did think it was surprising and ended up being funny when she didn't just die, and they ended up having another meal and a conversation... I just assumed that the suicide pill just takes a long time.

    • @forestsoceansmusic
      @forestsoceansmusic 5 років тому +32

I thought of that, until the end, when we see him alone again. He didn't go back in time to hang out with her, we saw how they met, and their unusual relationship flowed continuously from that. This movie missed an option for the suicidal girl -- by marrying her, or at least making her a fellow time agent with him, she would've 'died' to her world (she had "nowhere to stay") and so it would be as if she had killed herself.
