Riswic, or rather Rijswijck is a suburb of The Hague, where a treaty was concluded between Louis the 14th of France and William the 3rd, Statholder of the Dutch Republic and King of England, who was a descendant of both king Charles the 1st and prince William of Orange who led the Dutch in their revolt against king Phillip 2nd of Spain.

Ca.1765. Easy to dance as a Duple minor, like in the clip (you can see there three verses, 3 x AABB)

What kind of name is La Riswic? An explanation would be nice.

Riswic, or rather : Rijswijk used to be a village near The Hague. Nowadays it is a suburb of that city. On the 20th of september 1697 a treaty was signed in Riswic between William of Orange, King of England and Louis of France, settling a number of disputes between these monarchs. Musical compositions, poems and choreographies were created to celebrate the occasion.

It is churlish to say so, but to go through the effort of filming this lovely little minuet a quatre with cuts to the footwork that are too brief and tight to show anything and otherwise frame the dancers as bobbing busts that never show the port de bras that is so much a part of the style is churlish of you, to say the least. The same criticism of your extract with the other minuet.

Not helpful to stay close all the time and shoot through the candelbra? What? Varying the shots would have been much more illustrative of the movements.

Lovely, music, costumes, and setting. Who can say about the dancing? The camera is very unhelpful. When filming a dance, the very best cinematography shows the whole choreography. In this sort of dancing, it is acceptable to cut into the feet to show the steps, and this was sort of done here, but not well enough. It is more effective to film the men’s feet than the women’s feet, because the skirts obscure the steps. A great deal of effort was put into this, and completely spoiled by the poor cinematography.
