Imagine having Scotty with you when your car breaks down.
Best situation for sure 😃
That would be a God send. Wish he was my neighbor
It would be both a relief and an embarrassment. Relief is the fact that Scotty can get you up and rolling again. Embarrassing because YOU BROKE DOWN IN FRONT OF SCOTTY! Should've listened to him! (Probably).

@Adam Chapman well gm was their head so they r the main shitheads

That's because the engine asked "for whom the bell tolls"
The owner knew the engine burned oil.
He did'nt keep it topped up.
He killed it.
Ya, and Scotty still blames GM..
Yep. Sad, but true.
@@classic287 it burns oil because of GM tho lol they use cheap piston rings
I had a high mileage motor that burnt oil, it gets worse and worse, it got to the point where I was burning 1.5-2 quarts a week. It definitely can sneak up on you, but he definitely should've been on his A game checking that oil
yes... but if scotty would have filled it up before the test drive the car would still be running... the car had pretty much no oil in it...

WHAT'S IT GOT STUNTMANNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always heard that for the amount GM spent to create Saturn they could have just purchased Honda. Thank GOD that didn’t happen.
That gives me the willies just thinking about it. Remember what happened when Ford owned Aston, Jaguar and Range Rover? All of their cars down to some of the cheapest gained in quality and it took years for the other companies to clean out that culture and regain reputation. Just as a car lover it gives me the super willies. The willies I tell ya.

Damn. Sorry for that guy. The 🔔 in the background when Scotty said the death of Saturn was so well timed.
I have a 2008 Saturn Aura XE 3.5 l and I have had no engine problems whatsoever. I got it with 63,000 miles on it in 2016 and I now have it with 143,000 MI. I deliver food in it though so I've had to replace the brakes and tires on multiple occasions but in terms of the engine I've had no problems so far.
Scotty, I have one that We bought new. What happens with getting oil in the intake is the PVC orifice, not a valve but a small hole gets plugged up. This is located in the driver’s side rear valve cover. The hole needs to be drilled out to a larger size. I have used Mobile 1 synthetic since day one and the engine is still running well and not using oil. The guy got one that’s been abused.
I appreciate Mr. Kilmer's direct, honest talk.
Check your dipstick!
Rev up your engines at your own risk!
(Scotty Kilmer is not responsible for any damages if you do decide to rev up your engine)
I had a 2002 SL. Great little car! Got excellent gas mileage and it was incredibly reliable. I miss the engine sound, nothing quite like it. Traded it a long time ago, but I really appreciated it.
Same thing happened to Pontiac case and point you still see quite a few Pontiac’s from years ago still going strong
I absolutely love Scotty. You're informative, entertaining and even relieving. I'm glad you're still alive and making videos, brother.
Yeah what are we gonna do after he’s gone, this guy is what holds our sanity
Lol, the dude was driving around revving the engine and driving hard while 4 quarts low on oil?? 😄
He now owns a 5k paper weight.
😆😆😄😄😄
Man….that’s some bad luck right there. If he’s a regular Joe, he may have to just junk it and get a new car. That’s sad. He probably loved that car and reached out to Scottie for a review on his favorite UA-cam car channel to show of a rare gem. This will go in history but not the way he though it would.
@@alejandronopasanada5302 its called a LIFE LESSON that he'll never fprget
Well, like scotty says... Oils cheap, engines aren't....I can't believe the owner didn't check the oil when Scotty mentioned the lifters being loud..should have been a reminder
I had a 99 SL2 twin cam I owned it for 10 years and not once did it ever let me down. Best car I ever had.
If my car gives up the ghost on the side of the road, I’d be thankful Scotty was with me, this way I’d know for sure we were screwed.
I used to have a 2007 Saturn Vue that had the Honda engine and transmission. Really good car.
You got lucky! 😆
Saturn vue’s we’re amazing vehicles. My aunt and cousins bought several of those things. Never had a problem with any of them.
Saturn Vue was available with the Honda 3.5 liter V6 from 2002 to 2007 model years. In fact, it was the only Saturn available with this engine. Supposedly, this was a deal GM made with Honda in return for GM supplying diesel engines for Honda overseas. I had a 1999 and a 2002 Saturn SL2; the 2002 was the final year of the original design, which had undergone an update for 1996 model year. Both were excellent vehicles, though not very roomy.
I had a 2004 Vue that I bought with ~150,000 miles on it. Th engine was the Honda 3.5L with the automatic transmission. Great acceleration, mileage was good, it was dependable. Had to have all four hubs replaced, and of course brakes and tires done but it was a good car. Lots of other stuff needed fixed that I didn’t want to pay to have done on a 17 year old car with 238,450 miles when I traded it in last summer on a Honda CRV. So many other Vue owners I talked to said they wished they still made them.
"step on the gas" was the demise of the Saturn....Lol
This guy wanted to soup up a Saturn, well, now he get's to pick a new engine out for it. Maybe one with flashy neon lights. Hahaha.
I’ve been waiting a long time to see a Scotty test drive blow up an engine. Finally. I’m still hoping for a rubber timing belt pop in a GDI with Scotty behind the wheel.
Technically he didn't do it, the owner who ran the motor pretty much out of oil blew the motor
@@richsweeney1115 I get it.
@@richsweeney1115 yes, and the owner drove a long way with low oil just to get to Scotty!
@@MarkSmith-js2pu I'm just saying, you'd think he kept oil with him and checked it regularly knowing it burned oil, especially when Scotty mentioned the lifters being loud..
Bhahaha 😂 That would be hilarious as flummery. Imagine the aftermath.
As Scotty would say time to get a used engine from a scrap yard to install to save money and honestly UA-cam pays big money to Scotty for views and subscriptions what’s a few thousand maybe pay half at least sounds like the right thing to do why not like a tax deduction for charity we have all been young at one time he obviously looks up to Scotty as a mentor i think your viewers deserve an update……
he’s obligated 100%
“Are you serious Scotty? My engine is really blown?!! 😖 I drove all the way from Buffalo to show you my neon exhaust lights. And then I revved the engine to impress you. Hey……you’re not going to put this footage on UA-cam, are you?”
Can't think of anyone I'd rather be with when my engine blows up.
I cringed when I saw that 3.6 vvt. I was going to buy my wife an 2008 Saturn Aura. But when we went to the dealership she liked the 2008 Saturn Astra rebadged Opel so we bought that. Haven't had any repairs except one under warranty. Over 150k miles.
Very reliable
This may be my favorite video of Scotty's ever, seeing an engine fail on a test drive! I feel for the guy that owned the car though. He was trying to show it off only to have it blow up on the test drive. Of course he knew it had issues, and maybe the video would have gotten around to that had it not blown up. Those big GM V6 engines in a small car though can really make it haul @$$. We have a 2013 impala with the V6 and it is pretty impressive.
I have quite a few family and friends who had problems with that GM 3.6L V6 engine. The most common problem is the timing chains stretching. A few were oil burners when you get past 100,000 miles. The last good V6 engine that GM made was the 3.8L. Those engines were almost bulletproof.
you cannot kill the 3,8 L yo ureally had to beat o n em hard
The 3.8 GM would easily go 200k and more.
Think you nailed it. Did not sound great idling before they went on the drive.
The 3.6 was redesigned around 2012. Haven't really found anything about timing chain problems after that. Though obviously if you don't maintain one well I'm sure it would have issues like anything else.
I'm still thinking I should get a 2000s Park Avenue 3.8 Series II with low miles on it from some old guy who doesn't drive anymore and take it to 300K.
Next time, make sure you buy a 94 Celica instead to a Saturn.
The reality of that is wild though.
At 5:03, look at the brown sludge under the oil cap.
The bell called the end of this engine.
Seen & heard great things about Saturn cars. One SL-1 1.9 4 cylinder went well over 200k & was extremely reliable with 40 mpg efficiency but it was properly maintained with normal fluid changes, tune ups etc.
I've had 3, all 5 spds. All high miles...all reliable
@@richsweeney1115 Richpin is that you?
I had a 93 SL2 with a 5 speed that I put 154K on it. One of the best cars that I have owned. Beefy suspension, went around corners like it was on rails. Unfortunately it got totaled. Loved those polymer body panels.
@Mike Raineri if you didn’t mind cars that rattle a lot & were still pretty reliable, manual transmission Saturns could be good. Just DON’T buy an automatic transmission one.
I've wondered how long it would be before somebody's engine finally blew up 🤣
At least Scotty wasnt driving it .

I consider that an honor to have a breakdown with Scotty.
How nice of him to drive all the way to Rhode Island just to show us what a hunk of crap Saturns were.
never heard of that one but i did have an saturn sl1 with stick shift! if I took care of it i would probably still have it!
Surprisingly, there are more than a few Saturns up here in Minnesota. I guess the selling point back in the day was the plastic panels would rust from the salted roads in the Winter.
2002 Saturn L200 Still going strong at 220k miles. Have had it since 2006 with 90k
These Saturns were in fact Opel/Vauxhall models. In this case, in Europe and other places was the Opel Vectra. Everyone complained that the V6s with automatic transmissions were pieces of crap, not so much the 4 cylinder ones.
I used to own a 2007 Chevrolet Astra, had the 1.8 L 5 speed manual transmission. Was fun to drive. It was made in Belgium by Opel.
Very sad this happened to someone’s car, especially so far from their home. Dude was just trying to trick it out and have something that made him happy.
That bailout buggy is just a Malibu. Saturn Vue with the Honda engines might be worth it, I always laugh when I look under the hood because the air intake says we slapped this engine in here.
“The main problem was GM… people were saying “the Saturn is better than your cars” then they started taking people off the Saturn lines, and putting them in other places” … Scotty. You’re a very rational down to earth guy. I’ve even learned a few things from you here and there over the years. But what in gods name does that explanation even mean
I have a 98 saturn SL-2 and its a great car,very reliable a great gas miledge.
My aunt bought one of the first Saturns back in the 90s with non dentable panels as they used to say and that car lasted her well over 15 years and was still going until it got totaled in an ice storm. She bought another brand new Saturn in around 2008 ish and that car is still running today with well over 200,000 miles on it. She's finally starting to have problems with rubber seals and other things just worn out from wear and tear so she's trying to hold off for the market to settle down and then she's going to buy a new car. She just doesn't know what she wants now because Saturn is no more and that's what she wanted to stick with. Hopefully she listens to me and gets a new Toyota or Honda.
I live with my grandma, shortly after the head gasket blew on her smart car she bought a new bronco sport. Told her to buy Japanese but that didn’t happen, I guarantee that engine is gonna blow before it hits 100k
This video helped me out more than you think Scotty. My moms 99’ civic engine makes that same noise when I try to crank it. Starter, injectors, plugs, and distributor are all good. Oil level is good and fuel pump is still good and original. But the engine doesn’t start just makes the same noise as that Saturn when cranked so I feel like the engine is done like I thought originally!
Check the timing of the engine. They use timing belts. Just before your junk it
Yeah check timing! Open the oil cap and crank it, you should see some movement
Being a honda it could be the pgm fi relay , it will crank strong and no start. If it has distributor igniion also could be bad.

EVERYTHING you said Scotty about EVs.... I agree with you.Manufactured and sold for those who are willing to splurge their money no questions asked
my Saturn SL2 lasted for 22 years before the tranny went.....only 99 hp but a fun car to drive.
the saturn astra (opel astra_) was actually a really good underrated car (esp in manual trans versions ) that was a disaster in terms of sales. But they were built better than any domestic gm car over in Belgium. the opel 4cyl engines were reliable.
My mom still drives one (the Vauxhall version) and yup, it actually runs fine and has a nice interior fit and finish, very very close to those of Audi A3s of that same age.
Yes, I went to the dealership planning on buying this car but my wife liked the 5 door manual Astra so we bought that good decision.
So glad you share your honesty with us Scotty 👍
I had a '94 SL2, just junked it last summer. I never added oil, just changed it annually. Now I have an Aura, but a 2008 XE.
Any issues with your aura at all?
Hey Scotty I have a 99 Saturn SL2 homecoming edition with well over 300,000 miles on it and I have to say this car runs great! It's just starting to use a little oil about 1 quart every 3000 miles. There's an old saying "Saturns don't die people kill them"
I got a 1st gen Kia Rio, which I don't see on the road anywhere anymore. If you change the oil and keep up on maintenance, it'll last, most likely.
Saturn Aura XR?
That's a re-skinned Opel Vectra by GM.
That 3.6 is a great engine. I had one in a Saturn VUE XR, That car was waaayyy fast!! It ran puuuuurfect from the day a got till I finally sold it many years later... I think the 3.6 V6 was originally designed for Cadillac. As I recall it won an award for best engine in it's class?? or something like that when it was first released. btw, I used Mobile 1 full synthetic oil. checked the oil level regularly . and changed it about every 5k miles... I never had excessive oil consumption issues with that engine. (never more than a qt between changes).
Scotty you are the best... We always lern with your advice. I have a old 2004 CRV with 125K runs well. Bought it recently. The Ac makes the car vibrate (the motor vibrates) I think it is too much gas in the compressor. Be well on Rode Island...
Almost bought an XR years back. Guess I dodged a bullet.
This car ran without oil, mistakes happen. This owner might have learned a lesson 🤠.
No, you did. Those 3.6s are junk. You’re better off with a 3800
Ahhh! Now I see why he lets the customer drive it! If Scotty was driving it and the this happened? The kid would probably blame it on him and expect a new engine! Lol

Have a used land rover lr3 v6 180k miles on it it runs better than a bunch of toyotas and hondas in my area and cost me about 2k #1 problem in my area is people don’t maintain their cars i’ve seen so many used hondas and toyotas running rough and transmission almost giving out because the owners never maintained them vs I have the entire service history of my car because the previous owners were so afraid it would break and religiously took it in for servicing LOL

Good ol' 3.6 LFX engine, you either blow it up from lack of lubrication from burning oil or you stretch the timing chains. I own a 2008 Enclave with the same motor, stay on top of it checking the oil level and change it every 5,000 km (3,000 miles).
I owner a Saturn , it was actually.a.pretty good car. Never had a problem with it. Better built than othe GM cars were.
They don't want blunt honesty from a professional, love your videos and the knowledge you share with us ✌️
Ah, the gm 3.6L strikes again. Goes through oil and timing chains if not serviced or maintained properly.
Glad the owner was driving his car when the engine blew. Is he going to rebuild the engine?
With those license plates and blacked out tint, he's probably on the phone right now with mom or dad for a $3000 loan to rebuild the engine. Then in 6 months he'll need another mom or dad loan for the transmission. Looking at the LEDs on the tailpipes, come to realize some people never grow up.
Always love those Aura, G6, and Malibus with the 3.6
Me, too.
That last laugh was gold. I laughed too 😂🤣
I noticed, Scotty usually drives the Toyota, Honda, and otherwise reliable cars that come in but when you see cars like this he lets the owner drive. If it’s gonna blow it’s not blowing on Scotty 😂. I had a 98 Saturn sc2. Great car until it dropped a valve at 140k. If you went 65 it used to get 38 mpg.
I had a 91' Saturn with a 4 cylinder, manual transmission. Car was actually pretty good, until I crashed and totaled it. I don't see these anymore but it would be interesting how long that would have held up. Got it with less than 50,000 miles back in 96', only drove it for a couple years but I did like the car. Can't vouch for the later Saturns, they seemed to be completely different cars.
I had three Saturns 96 SL1 manual 140000 miles i totaled that at 159000 miles paid $2000. Then i got 95 Saturn SW2 paid $1800 with 145000 miles had it for 6 years sold it for $500 with 210000 miles. Last I had 02 Saturn Vue V6 AWD paid $8000 with 85000 miles had it for 6 years traded in it for $2200 at 135000 I drove the VUE cross country and back no problems. The SW2 burned 1 quart every 3000 miles and the Vue water pump started leaking at 103000 miles good cars for the price.

Looks like the same engine that I have in my 2009 Malibu and is the most powerful stock engine available at the time. Mine sits in the driveway though because rust rotted out the 4 layer uni-body under the plastic side skirts from the mid front doors to the back tires, ON BOTH SIDES!!! I have hardly any millage on it but it needs some extensive metal work.

I will never say bad things about a old Saturn 4 banger (1994). Had a free one that was given to me that lasted over 3 years. I got rid of it it was still running. Beat the crap out of it. Only ever replaced the water pump.

At 9:30 Scotty Got a good laugh from that one
Love that new electric truck advert, where it's cruising around in the woods looking for a charging station 🤣
Looks like a rebadged Opel Astra 🤩
Because it is. GM owned Opel back then. They brought it in America as a Saturn, and in UK as Vauxhall.
Was gonna say. Probably some parts shared with astra vxr.
@@MedicalExamUK Yes they share a lot of parts. The design is identical. Astra did not really use V6 engines. Most of them were 1.8 4 cylinder gasoline engines, and some 1.7 CDTI diesel etc. In America they love putting bigger engines. The only companies which broke the concept of huge engines in america were toyota and honda.
I saw them badged as Proton in thailand almost 12 years ago, zafiras too
Maybe you could have checked his oil before the joyride!
how about ppl check their own oil, it’s not my job to check your oil before going for a ride
The owner should have checked it before he drove it there. Public education failure again! We used to learn these basic things in Auto Shop, high school.
If only own one of those expensive EV machines, would gladly have Scotty have it for few months to get a better deeper look at it 😁🤭👍
Soctty you have me die laughing when you tell to them that there electric vehicles are a bunch of nonsense.
"there's no pressure comin' out; it's not a big blow..."
That's what, she...said heh heh😅
