The role of the album Promo 92 was to promote the first debut album from Burzum which was to be released in March of 1992.

that was the point of this demo. it was a reaction against the popular death metal of the time. he deliberately made it sound bad. and the people who understood, understood.
If you know the songs that are on this demo. They were later re-recorded. You can begin to really appreciate this demo. But yeah, coming from an outside perspective. I can easily see how this is unlistenable. It's definitely not the best representation for what burzum sounds like for a first time listener.
if you start getting into the genre with this ofc it will sound disgusting because you have to get used to raw sound, so i'd recommend checking out the debut album Burzum/Aske
It sounds this way because the music and recording was shaped that way duh. You don't even have to like bm or even be a musician to understand it's the tone that he was going for. The soundscape is used to elicit certain feelings and capture a vibe.
