@ Leah Thornhill, Barnaby was losing weight, sitting uncomfortable and making a noise while he peed. He went to the vet and got an xray which showed the bladder stone.
I am new to your videos. I had guinea pigs in the past but I learned some things I wish I had known before. I just got me a couple of baby female guineas. I want to make sure they have a happy and healthy life. I just love pigs! Thank you for sharing!
thank you for this!!! i couldnt figure out why one of my piggies had calcium in their pee but i was feeding her romaine lettuce. ill try regular lettuce!
great video! very informative! the best vid resource in my opinion because she breaks it down not only by the type of food to feed to the guinea pig, but also how much to feed by using the illustrations thus making it very easy to understand! I now have a better understanding of what to feed my guinea pig daily now, thank you!!
My piggies and I love you! Thanks so much for your videos, you've given me so much inspiration and it is literally because of you that I adopted 5 gorgeous piggies and they are happy and healthy :) Thanks so so much!
Thank you so much for this video!!! Around a year ago i was feeding my pigs one stalk of celery per pig, then i realized how absolutely high in calcium it is!! Now i feel cucumber, tomatoes, and romaine lettuce daily, with a sprig of cilantro every 3 days or so :)
Great video and I definitely need to review what I feed my piggies as they do get calcium deposits in their urine. I think I overfeed lettuce so will try feeding what you feed daily and see if it helps. Thank you for the great information, I'm learning so much from you and your videos.
Calcium deposits are normal, you won't stop it. These vloggers have anxiety because of bladder stones. Instead of calcium look at oxolate in veg and soy found in shit pellets. Sorry old post haha 👍
I feed my pig two baby carrots, a little bit of green leaf lettuce and cilantro and three baby tomatoes, the ones I give her are about half an inch. Very tiny.
My piggies decided to dig up their liners and hide under them, even tho they have houses and things to hide in. So since they went under the liners instead of on top of them that means they pooped under them too. So that means I had to wash everything, so since they had to spend part of the day in a travel cage and get a bath and their nails clipped I gave them all of their favorite veggies as a reward, they are definitely happy piggies now :)
Very helpful video! I was a lil worried about giving my piggies to much Calcium, but my daily is usually pepper, carrot, as the majority and then some romaine and then tomato and celery occasionally. Then apples as treaties.
Yes I really like it I have two gorgeous haired guineas and I was wondering if I could find a video on UA-cam to help me see if I was feeding my guinea pigs correctly. They are now 7 months today
I've planted 2 or 3 red romaine lettuce seeds with some potting soil in containers like yours. If they grow my 2 guinea pigs and I will have some this winter =)
I know I'm a little bit late on this comment but I just wanted to let you know something that I've heard a couple times. Apparently baby carrots are bathed in chlorine to shape them so I just feed my guinea pig normal carrots. I don't know if this is 100% true or if it would even harm the guinea pig but it's not good for humans so I just assume it's not the best. I hope you take this into consideration and maybe find out more about it to see if it's really harmful.
Thank you for the video, we just found out my piggie Harvey has bladder sludge so i am putting all my pigs on a low calcium diet. This video helped alot especially with quantity, also i am changing water to low calcium bottled water.
I am looking into buying a brita water filter :) I use pets at homes own brand (don't no if your from the US or UK but its a big supermarket for pet supplies) I give a handful a day
Laura Hall Pellets really have to be measured out, 1/8 of a cup per pig, per day. They contribute a lot of calcium into a diet if overfed and it is best to try and find ones with the lowest amount possible. You want about .4% calcium in the pellets. I am in Canada :)
Hi. I’m really scared. Our guinea pigs are fed vegetables everyday and for the past like 3 weeks we have been feeding them dandelion greens and parsley everyday. I have noticed that they have been peeing white a lot so I started to do more research. When I found out to much calcium can cause bladder stones I got really scared. I have not seen them pee blood and I haven’t seen them squeak while they pee/poo. We will start to do a lower calcium diet for them, but I still really don’t want them to have surgery because that is hard for little guinea pigs. If anyone has any information or tips please respond ASAP. Thanks.
I like this bit of advice i already give them tomatoes and cucumber. But nice to see more stuff i can add. Is it ok how you say once a day if i cut that in half and give them half a serving in am as breakfast and half at night. My GP seems to get all excited when i bring in the veggies like runs around the house waiting for it.
hello skinnypigs1 - I really enjoyed your video - and this is more or less exactly what I am now feeding my older guinea pigs as they are very susceptible to uric stones as they get older. However - younger guinea pigs can take, and need, some calcium in their diets because they need it while their bones are still growing. Also, a plea to everyone to WASH vegetables before preparing them. Most supermarket vegetables and fruits have preservatives of one sort or another sprayed onto their skins - unless they are organic.
Thank you! I give them celery along with baby carrots every day because it seems to be there favorite staff (after green apple, which I give them less then once a week). May be because of high content of fiber plus it's watery and a bit sweet? But I almost never give them dark green part on romaine, only lower part of core, because they crazy about it. What do you think about strawberry stems, zucchini?
***** Guinea Lynx has the best food chart, I recommend you check that out. Tells you all the nutritional values for foods. I have no idea if Strawberry stems are okay...I know most stems aren't safe.
I have spent the last 3 days viewing as many of your videos as I can... But I can not seem to find the veggie chart. Could you help me...ps.. love your videos. they have helped so MUCH!
That's everything I feed my pigs too! Except they don't really get apples but I'll feed them each a grape every once in a while. As for grass, I've never really given it to my pigs and I was just wondering about fertilized grass. Is it ok to feed it to the pigs? Not right after it's been fertilized of course but like a couple weeks after, could I pck it and feed it to them?
Nope, I think it is more like months after you've fertilized and it must have also rained a lot rinsing off the grass. I would not use it even after that though, you would never want to harm them. I just make sure to not treat my lawn with anything so that I know it is safe to use.
Is that what they get each day? Romaine lettuce isn't the best because lots of people find their piggies get gritty pee (sign there is too much calcium) Red or Green leaf is best. Apple can only be given as a treat maybe once a week. Celery has basically not nutritional value, is fine to give but really isn't adding anything beneficial to their diet.
jennatigerrose I was thinking the same thing! From what I read, all colors of bell peppers are fine for piggies to eat, but the red has the most vitamin C (which piggies need daily). Next highest in vit C is orange bell peppers, then yellow, then the lowest vit C is the green bell peppers. That doesn't mean green bell peppers aren't high in vit C, just that the red ones have the most vit C. 😉👍
jennatigerrose Hey! I wouldn't necessarily say that red capsicum (pepper) is the best due to the phosphorus to calcium ratio being very unbalanced. When looking up the nutritional value of red, green and yellow capsicum, yellow is the best in regards to the ratio of calcium to phosphorus (Ca:P). Red has a ratio of 1:7 Green has a ratio of 1:2.2 Yellow has a ratio of 1:2.18 (please note that ratios don't use decimal places but I used decimal places to visually represent the ratios in hopes of a better understanding). As you can see red had the worst ratio of calcium to phosphorus which isn't good for their diet, whereas yellow and green are basically the same and are perfect in ratio. I'm not 100% certain on the reasoning behind why they need to be even but I do remember reading it in a clinical study for rats and guinea pigs, along with many discussion posts on forums. Now, you can still feed red capsicum but I find that yellow is the best due to the ratio of Ca:P and it has higher vit c (red = 152mg vit c, green = 98mg vit c, yellow = 183mg vit c). Disclaimer: my research is based on the food composition table for Australians and is per 100g of veggies, so the nutritional value within your veg may vary due to location.
Hi, we've just found out that one of our guinea pigs has two bladder stones which he'll be having removed next week. I see that you give pepper to your guinea pigs, but I have a problem, the one who is currently ill gets gas from it and I'm allergic to it, is there anything else as good as peppers that I could maybe use?
You made this video just in time!! My pig developed a UTI and is the beginning of a stone! The vet is treating it with baytril. I was doing alot of research on low calcium diest. My vet advised me to feed pellet free (I was feeding oxbow, 1/8 cup a day) just for now to make the cailcium go down. Do you have any other advice on preventing stones while having a UTI?
I would definitely go pellet free if your piggy is having sludge in its bladder. Barnaby gets 8 pieces of pellet a day just because he loves them so. I give all the pigs 1 Oxbow Urinary Support Tablet a day, to promote healthy bladder function. Also it is extremely important that your piggy is drinking a lot of water, make sure it is filtered water so that it doesn't contain high amounts of calcium in the water. I use 3 bottles in Barnaby's cage so that he has no excuse to not drink.
I recently adopted two new guineas and I have been feeding them this diet, mostly because the rationale behind each vegetable is valid and none of the vegetables are in question (certain veggies are a must have on one website & a no no on another). Anyways, my piggies don't like baby carrots. I was wondering if this causes a lack in vitamin c in this particular diet, or if no carrots and everything else the same is okay? Thanks in advance!
I know this is an old video but I just subscribed not too long ago. Im just wondering about something...since your piggies are paired how do you know they are getting only one carrot each or one piece of pepper, etc...what if one of them hogs a certain veggie before the other can get to his/her share? Ever run into that problem? 🤔
Hi, how do you control how much they eat? Like, I have 2 pigs, so how can I know if 1 of them is eating only 1 tomato or 1 leaf of lettuce and not eating 2 leafs and letting the other pig without food? Im Brazilian so sorry for any spelling mistakes, :)
+skinnypigs1 Thank you, I always worry about a pig not eating because the other eat everything kkk. Just one more question, I think Im overfedding them, because I put like 3 leafs a day for each one, plus other vegetables. It is enough 1 or 2? I always think they will be hungry. And thanks, love your videos!
How often should I give them their food? I give them it twice a day, on school days it's seven in the morning and at night it's six. But on the weekend it's eight or nine and then seven or six at night. Am I supposed to give them it once a day?
So I have two male guinea pigs but neither of them like bell pepper, do you have any suggestions on what I should feel them so they can get their vitamin c?
Two guinea pigs is wayyyyyyyyyy better than 1 UNLESS they DO NOT GET ALONG AT ALL, meaning they draw blood from each other every time they are together. Watch introducing Guinea pig videos . I hope this helped
your scents are fine, it should help the guinea pigs bond with you. Guinea pigs need friends, they are very social and they need friends that actually speak their language, something that no matter how much we play with them, we can never make up for. They absolute have to be together in groups, unless as BQ Channel said, they actually y seriously hurting each other. watch the skinnypigs1 introduction video.
I am 11 yrs old and I fed my guinea pig romain and she reacted fine I just wanted to know like what the calcium pellets (poop) looks like so I know what to look out for
Hi skinnypigs1! I'm planning on getting Guinea pigs in around two months (two Guinea pigs) from a local rescue. They'll most likely be around 2-5, and probably not sick. Would this be okay to feed them? Thanks
Hey skinnypigs1 I have a question my skinnypig rugby eats 3 small carrots a day... Is that ok I don't know if its ok for her or not please respond thanx

Great video, I feed bell peppers every day and the piggies love it! Then I'm happy they are getting their vitamin C too :)
It is so cute to walk in and hear my piggies squeak when they know it is salad time :)
I love your UA-cam channel I just love to see how you are with your guinea pigs.
Thank you!
I don't think i could feed the bell pepper lol, i honestly think i would eat all of the bell peppers before the pigs had a chance to eat any.
Rosemary Crafting Bell peppers are very good for them, for vitamin c it's very good to give them that.
Same, but I remember to always feed my piggies veggies
but I'm so tempted to eat it too
Me too 😂😂
Awesome video! :) Green pepper is always in our house!
My guinea pig loves spinach and cucumber and carrots and Red bell peppers

hi I was wondering if you can do a video on what you feed throughout the day?
ua-cam.com/video/5uJkuHeQshg/v-deo.html
thanks!
for baby carrots they put Corrine and other chemicals to keep them the game size just saying
I know I'm a little bit late on this comment but I just wanted to let you know something that I've heard a couple times. Very useful! My piggies started having white residue in their urine so I am gonna stick with a low calcium diet. Thank you!
I have an updated diet which includes radicchio instead of lettuce and Sherwood pellets instead of Oxbow.
Thank you for the video, we just found out my piggie Harvey has bladder sludge so i am putting all my pigs on a low calcium diet. This video helped alot especially with quantity, also i am changing water to low calcium bottled water.
Laura Hall I use filtered water from a brita, it is great. What pellets do you feed and how much?
I am looking into buying a brita water filter :) I use pets at homes own brand (don't no if your from the US or UK but its a big supermarket for pet supplies) I give a handful a day

I am in Canada :)
Right, I will get onto it :) thank you for your advice I appreciate it a lot :) and hello to you all the way over in Canada :)
Great video!!! My older girls don't get much variety for the same reason. Unfortunately, they refuse to eat any bell peppers. :(
That is too bad they don't like the peppers. It took Calvin and Hobbes a week before they would start to nibble on the peppers I offered them daily.

+Sally Farky That is why feeding alfalfa based pellets for piggies under 6 months old is required, to make sure they get that extra calcium.
thank you!i just got pigs and buying veggies right now!
this helps a lot tysm i will now start feeding my pig pepper and more carrots
@ Graisyn Sobczak...Iceberg lettuce has zero nutritional value and has a very large water content.
+piggie lover no it isnt it just doesnt have any kind of nutritional value.www.guineapigcages.com/forum/threads/69028-Iceberg-Lettuce
+Glitter forever 5.
Ummm Red leave Lettus is Not at all good for them look it up
What is not good about it? I have looked it up and it is a staple item, that or green leaf lettuce is excellent for your guinea pigs.
When i looked it up it said its to watery and Has WAY TOO MUCH MINERALS
Did you ever make a video on; what beginner guinea pig owners should get?
I have no idea if Strawberry stems are okay...I know most stems aren't safe.
skinnypigs1
Thank you! By the way, my guinea pigs love you voice! :)))
I had been feeding Kale and Fresh Spinach. Not anymore. Thanks for this video.
What are the containers called that are from Walmart that have the special design so it says fresher?
I have a garden in back yard i was wondering if i could use the tomatos in my garden??
I have spent the last 3 days viewing as many of your videos as I can... But I can not seem to find the veggie chart. Could you help me...ps.. love your videos. they have helped so MUCH!
Go to Guinea Lynx.
Great thank you
Sorry if I missed it, but how often can I feed Kale please? My piggies love it
im learning new things
thanks for the info. trying to figure out possible diets for these cavis. I think mine are smaller than yours so I imagine they would eat less?
+melanie lopez How old are they?
That's everything I feed my pigs too! Except they don't really get apples but I'll feed them each a grape every once in a while. I just make sure to not treat my lawn with anything so that I know it is safe to use.
Is this in addition to their pellet food and hay?
ZanyProductionz yes, of course!
How did you tell that Barnaby had a bladder stone?
What do you think about celery. I give my "pigs" celery, green apple(more skin part) and romaine lettuce core. Is it OK?
Is that what they get each day?

Hi, we've just found out that one of our guinea pigs has two bladder stones which he'll be having removed next week. Should I use a container like that because u just wash the lettuce that put it in a salad spinner?
how do you feel about dandelions?
I can only get frozen carrots should I leav them to for out
Thanks for the information. I'm thinking about getting a hairless piggy 🐹
I have videos on caring for skinny pigs if you are interested.
You indpierd me to get a skinny pig and I am getting one next week so thanks and any tips ??

Oh, and if there were any suggestions as to other veggies I could introduce if the lack of carrots causes a problem. Thanks :)
+Gianna Falise carrots are mostly sugar so its fine if your pigs don't like them. carrots should be given as treats anyways
the pepper is high in vitiman c I don't regularly feed my two piggies carrots
I know this is an old video but I just subscribed not too long ago. Im just wondering about something...since your piggies are paired how do you know they are getting only one carrot each or one piece of pepper, etc...what if one of them hogs a certain veggie before the other can get to his/her share? You sliced everything up into smaller pieces and scatter, so they have a better chance at getting a bit of everything.
+skinnypigs1 thank you!
I feed Roman and I have noticed that there is calcium deposits around the cage which I am putting an end to ASAP
+Catoatic gaming Another great thing is to filter their water, I use a Brita. Also double check that you are feeding healthy, low calcium pellets.
Thanks you're my favorite gpig tuber and you've help me and my two girls alot:)
My guinea pigs won't eat peppers what should I do about that they are really picky
Hi! :) me again, just wandering if it's ok to feed guinea pigs fresh lawn hay u know what I mean :)
Can I ask why you keep your lettuce in water? Does it help it keep better?
Found it stays fresher, doesn't wilt.
Awesome!thanks!!
how many pieces of spinach leaves can i feed per pig? (i have 2)
I wouldn't feed any spinach, it is way too high in calcium and oxalates.
+skinnypigs1 thank you for the advice!
Where did you find the veggie containers?
They are Tupperware, so I just ordered them.
+georgia rohden You can't really, I just cut everything up and spread it around a bit, the pigs just eat what they eat and basically share it.
+georgia rohden one or two leaves a day is good. you should provide pellets and hay as well.
Where did you get your containers from?
Niccole Todacheenie Tupperware
How often should I give them their food? I give them it twice a day, on school days it's seven in the morning and at night it's six. But on the weekend it's eight or nine and then seven or six at night. Am I supposed to give them it once a day?
Hay at all times, pellets once a day and veggies you can split up throughout the day, however you'd like.
So I have two male guinea pigs but neither of them like bell pepper, do you have any suggestions on what I should feel them so they can get their vitamin c?
Mackenzie Graffam How often have you tried giving it to them? Have you tried dicing it up in small pieces? Try different colours?
@skinnypigs1 should I have two guinea pigs or is one ok?
and should I take my scents out of my room?
Two guinea pigs is wayyyyyyyyyy better than 1 UNLESS they DO NOT GET ALONG AT ALL, meaning they draw blood from each other every time they are together. Watch introducing Guinea pig videos . I hope this helped
For your second question, yes, if you can smell them even when closed.
your scents are fine, it should help the guinea pigs bond with you. Guinea pigs need friends, they are very social and they need friends that actually speak their language, something that no matter how much we play with them, we can never make up for. They absolute have to be together in groups, unless as BQ Channel said, they actually y seriously hurting each other. watch the skinnypigs1 introduction video.
What do you feed 3 week old piggies
What do you feed your rabbit?
Um I feed her hay Timothy hay oxbow pellets and some times lettuce
I would add in some bell pepper, it is really healthy for guinea pigs.
can they drink prilled water
I am 11 yrs old and I fed my guinea pig romain and she reacted fine I just wanted to know like what the calcium pellets (poop) looks like so I know what to look out for
Cameron Johns Calcium comes out in their pee, so it leaves white powder on the bedding.
is there any difference do you know between the different coloured bell peppers?
+banci wright Not too much of a difference, just varies a bit for things like Vitamin C, but over all, any colour is fine to feed.
Thank you skinny pigs. I feed mine fine beans they really love those as a treat
@ skinnypigs1 Is he okay?
woow super interesting
I have two piggies
Hi skinnypigs1! I'm planning on getting Guinea pigs in around two months (two Guinea pigs) from a local rescue. They'll most likely be around 2-5, and probably not sick. Would this be okay to feed them? Thanks
Yes.
Hey skinnypigs1 I have a question my skinnypig rugby eats 3 small carrots a day... Is that ok I don't know if its ok for her or not please respond thanx
Only one baby carrot a day, 3 is too much sugar. What else do you feed your piggy?
sorry, I think its called like dandelion greens or some such.
Does anyone know when you can start feeding piggy’s veggies? Mine is 1 month old
