  • This has always been one of my favorite scenes from "All in the Family" because it ignores all the racial turmoil that was in the show and in America at the time, showing us the racial harmony on the other side by making race irrelevant in the friendship between the two characters. This is from the episode "The Jeffersons Move Up," which was posted by Belgusto1, and I think this scene is a great way to remember the actress Jean Stapleton (as well as Isabel Sanford) after her death two days ago.
For fans of the show or the actress, you may be interested in the little tribute I posted to my blog: modernmigraines.wordpress.com/...

This is one of the best scenes in television history. This scene between Edith and Louise still makes me cry to this day. We will never have moments like this on television again.

Edith and Louise were characters who really embodied Martin Luther King Jr's philosophy, of judging people by the content of their character, and never the colour of their skin.

What a sweet moment between these two, not a moment between a black woman and a white woman, but between two women, two neighbors, two human beings who love each other!

This scene shows that you can have your heart broken in 1 minute and 13 seconds. Both of these ladies were tops of the class.

Just saw an interview with Isabel Sanford, where she talked about this scene. She didn't want to leave "All In The Family" to do "The Jeffersons." The tears were real.

This kind of class, empathy, warmth, and talent will unfortunately never exist on TV again. These were real human beings, not fake plastic trash that abounds today. RIP to both of them.

And we're still trying to accept and understand how we feel about each other when it should be this easy.

Edith may not have been the brightest, but I would have loved her to be in my family!

I wish that the Bunkers could've appeared on The Jeffersons at least once. It would've been nice to see their characters interact once more.

I remember watching this for the first time as a child and tears were streaming down my face. “did I ever tell you I love you?” this scene still makes me weep to this day
