What is amazing is the Engineer's ability/skill to judge the distance to come to a complete stop in the destination station without overshooting or undershooting the rail-end bumper. Wow. Respect. rocket

It's a place where they can hold for rush hour or park if there's no room available yet where they're going. They do it there because they are not blocking any crossings.
It seems to me that the constant ringing of the bell must be very annoying for both passengers and residents of the houses along the railroad. This is one of those old railroad traditions that should have been abandoned long ago.
That 3rd rail between Berkeley and Maywood is a major help as that line was the heaviest used line for freight on the Metra system. The Burlington Northern had 3 tracks all the way to ATC (Aurora Transportation Center)
Seems I started something with these complete Elburn to Chicago RFW’s. You had much better lighting all the way unlike mine. I was staying in a motel in the area so I had the disadvantage of starting East from Elburn in the morning when the sun was in my face. I stopped in West Chicago and waited until the sun angle was better to continue. I did get the Katy heritage unit though
@@oct197. Elburn is a nice town. I enjoyed it. Seems like a relaxing place. Unfortunately, being from Long Island, it’s kind of hard to go out there on a regular basis to do these.
@@3985uprr I grew up in the area and when the extension to Elburn was made I wasn't sure what to think of it even if it added 20 minutes on to the trip especially with no transportation west of Geneva
The reason why they're going to have the bell ring when they come to the crosswalk or a sidewalk or driveway is that idiots will try to go around them cause an accident that's why we're going to have it personally I believe that they should have a police officer be at every stop please don't want to do anything anyway they just sit there and mind their own little business and when someone goes around the trash play excited and ticket
If you do not like the bell, oh well. They have to use it no matter what.
When did they start using that instead of the horn?
@@TheFoodog49 I assume since they started passenger service on this line, because people don't like horns going off that close to houses I guess.
bro i love that bell sound!
@@JunoTheRailfan844 I appreciate it!

Yea it's cool. Once you run the line enough, you start to learn the stopping distance needed.
One of Metra's best "In the Cab" videos.
thank you 🙂

Why is there a freight train? Always stopped at Lafox.

Thing is, you can barely hear it far away. When on the train, it drowns out after a bit. It's also a safety thing.

I remember watching your video. I liked it. I was going to get the express inbound an hour after this one but didn't due to time

Nice Metra. train ride.
One of the best full ride videos I have ever watched! Keep up the awesome work! I would love to see a full ride from Kenosha-Chicago.
Thanks!! I'd love to do the UP North, but the schedule is limited for kenosha trains. I can probably try in the summer for that.
Bloddy bell why for noisy thing stick it
Oooh, that bell ❤
Bet the drivers have headphones.
Most might. They probably don't use it in the cab car
Amtrak requires it in the diesels. Maybe the cab cars have better sound proofing for the clunking of the bell.
@@rodhard688 Probably
They require hearing protection in most of the diesels. They are not required in the cab car but some do use them.
They need to extend this to dekalb
agreed

Wat a noise with that bell, but why??????
So people can hear the train coming, since this is all a quiet zone (except for one crossing)
Imagine the rail companies electrifying the approaches into Chicago.
This is the line I used the most on Metra
I use it the most too
I actually rode every train on the Metra system

That bell was really annoying.

Are you trying to ride all the lines?
I'd love to, but some lines have limited schedules or the cab car isn't open
