Asked my grandad what were those struts on Santa Fe steam engines were for and his his answer was so the engineers don't blow the stack off the top of the top of the boiler later I learned about stack extenders but I always liked his explanatio
I thought that only the Chicago & North Wetern had ""wrong way"" (ie left-hand) running! I''m sure Santa Fe was normal (right-hand) running. And I.m equally sure that the P42 Engineer sits on the right!!
