When I lived in UK I used the Northern Line most often. When I returned for a holiday, again I seem to use the Northern a lot. One day I decided to ride from Morden to High Barnet, and did a few trips on other lines where I hadn’t been before. Also found out that you alight at Colindale and not Hendon Central for Hendon RAF Museum! A friendly Londoner helped with that and showed me way to walk there.
I am a Ex northern line tube train driver and must say the 38 stock were the best trains I ever drove. I liked the 72 stock and put the 59 stock last. Great set up you have.
I remember travelling on the 1938 stock as a kid in the ‘70s probably mostly on the Piccadilly Line they used to put them on during the rush hour. They had an almost Art Deco feel interior with the green interior and actual light bulbs. Always enjoy your channel
Great review and so many childhood memories of this stock on the Bakerloo. Wrestling with my conscience and bank balance to buy one unit and you have brought two - thanks mate!
I'm sure I used to travel on those back in the day memories. Your layout helps to bring the locomotive to life. Your cat made me smile. Great review Eric I look forward to listening to the locomotive once sound fitted
Hi, great video and extremely enjoyable as well as informative. You know your subject well and it comes across that way. Your layout is impressive and I just live your cat. Thanks for going to the trouble of making it.
I do this myself but not to this degree. Love the way you take the loco apart and really get to the guts of it. A fantastic thoroughly comprehensive review. Top Draw.
Brilliant Video! Nice layout and very informative. The sound effects very realistic. Finally managed to get hold of one of these sets ~ a great set and a big step up from my 1950s Ever Ready Tinplate London Underground set ..
Love the fact they've given plenty of easy to reach solder tabs if you wanna add your own lighting upgrades/function etc and I love the little speaker box built into the seat, that's a nice touch! Great video fella, cheers ✌️👍😁
I'm not a railway modeler but as an ex-Londoner (when a youngster) I couldn't resist. I'd be tempted to pinch those couplings with a long nose plier, or maybe sand them a little? The scenery is great. I thought the speed was right. It didn't rocket round like the one on my "train set" years ago!
Excellent review. I didn't realise how many changes have been made to the original EFE models. I'm very impressed. If I hadn't decided on Southern Electric for my layout some time ago, then I would have been really tempted by the Bachman production- my original EFE models of the iconic 1938 stock are now confined to the display cabinet.
Nice. I managed to get one as well. Need to get the sound file now. Look forward to the next video…as I want to put lights in. Let’s hope Bachmann do more Underground trains in the future. Looks like Milo is a train fan too 👍
@@UndergroundEric that would be good. You can get the 72 stock and the 73 stock I think as the bakerloo and Picadilly are pretty much the same . Always forget some of the stocks. One that would be nice the 09 Victoria line trains.
Hi Eric. That's a well-made and informative video that told me what I was most interested to know. The Hornby DCC fitted 4-VEP has a decoder inside the roof. I have found a decoder in the roof to be difficult to remove - you can't get your finger in! Bachmann must have thought about this and maybe that's why they didn't do it? Hornby is re-issuing the 4-VEP in Autumn 2022 as R30106 in Govia Thameslink Southern Livery which should fit your scenario. Your cat, like mine, is an avid and appreciative layout watcher! Thanks for uploading.
Hi Eric That's a great looking model but I'm shocked Bachmann hasn't put front and rear lights into the model. Also the decoder position is awful. For the money these cost it should be better. I think you did a great review and went a b1it easy on the Bachmann guys lol. I'll keep my eyes open for your future videos. Keep up the great work. Cheers Paul 👍
It is indeed a shame i think too. It has good and bad points i guess. There are a few more bits i could have added in but then the video just becomes so long haha. Cheers mate

Great review. It would have been better if EFE/Bachmann had fitted the decoder assembly underneath the unit. Good to see a feline model rail enthusiast but keep those paws off the layout!
great videos and a great review! Honestly the models are not good enough by a long chalk for the massive cost. I actually think your conversions are way better. It looks as though they took the old models and just removed detail to get them to RTR. Bachmann pulled the models from some shops with no explanation so they could increase the price by 50 quid. But then I am bound to complain, as I am one of the people who had their orders pulled at the last minute after paying upfront and waiting for months : )
Yes annoyingly i filmed myself talking about that and then forgot to add it in! Along with the non painted tread plates under the doors. All stuff thats fairly easy to sort thankfully! 🙂 Ha he is a pain! But funny
@@UndergroundEric These units do seem disappointing in a number of respects. I am planning on getting some of the N gauge ones announced recently by RevolutioN trains - hopefully, they will be a little more refined!
Hi there....Just ran my 1938 tube stock yesterday for first time; it is a beautiful set. Where can I find back up couplers for this product in the event one breaks? I would want them with and without copper. I thought Bachmann could have done a better job with those as I find it a pain to put them in and then have to take them out when boxing them back up again. Looking forward to a response. Thanks.
They flicker when switched on when they have my decoder installed for a bit of fun, i set that myself. however the rest either dirty track or the camera yes. They dont flicker usually
@@UndergroundEric Years ago I made an O-gauge model of an early District Railway car - luckily there was only one pair of opening doors each side, but I did manage to make them open and close: not very realistically though, as they were rather quick! That was way before the era of DCC and sound, so there was no realistic 'clunk'! They worked with solenoids; probably these days one could make a better system with 3D printed cog-and-racks...
Do you have an concerns about the train being one car short for latter service years. I see them as almost perfect, very expensive, and missing a few things that would help to make variable lengths of train.
Boxes, Kinda Poirot ish. Almost Art Deco. Oooh hark at me. Seriously you could always surround the “lump” with passengers, rush hour style. Barrie Davis who I’ve no doubt your aware of bought this set, he used to drive them, and reckoned he could get them up to 70 mph between High Barnet and Totteridge, evidently not against the rules in the open.
Ha yes that would be nice. To be fair if i found the correct socket id like to just extend it so it sits higher up i think, would be a big improvement. That or take the whole lot out and fit next18 sockets perhaps.
We have a similar issue with the OO models of Melbourne trams. Unpowered models have full interior. Powered ones have a big brown lump taking up most of the interior to hide the mechanism. But then again, it's still a big improvement over many other models of self-propelled passenger stock over the years I suppose, where you see the motor or gears through the windows. Or a big metal block. :)
Just stumbled across this video, gotta say the intro with you riding the little train. That's definitely what kids call "Living your best life"😅

Would it be possible to glue the decoder to the roof & extend the wires so that the decoder was more out of sight?
Getting the 5 destination marker lights to come on in different sequences sounds like quite a challenge?
