    Literally have never eaten one of those kits 😂 or any gingerbread house for that matter! And we started using the hot glue a few years ago… because you’re absolutely right - that royal icing is garbage!!!

  • @auntlynnie
    @auntlynnie 10 місяців тому +16

    Yes, I eat my gingerbread house, but I make my own real/fresh royal icing.
    Editing to add: if you don’t eat your house, go for the hot glue! It’s a brilliant tip!

    I'm German and we used to make a gingerbread house by, first of all, baking our own gingerbread. The pieces were then glued together with powdered sugar made into a paste with a little water. Nothing fake, nothing artificial and tasting soooo much better than any kit.

    I wish this video was available 15 years ago. Every year we make those stinking gingerbread houses and they cause nothing but frustration. This year, with your hot glue tip, will make it an enjoyable experience. Thank you!

    I totally agree!!!! Who eats the gingerbread house after it’s been assembled by a bunch of grubby hands?😂 I love this hack! I’ll definitely put this to use!

    People look for anything to complain about. We’ve been making gingerbread houses for 50 plus years and never once thought of the amazing idea of using a glue stick. THANK YOU FOR THE AMAZING GAME CHANGER!!!

  • @ashaeerie

    I made small gingerbread houses from scratch last year and I assembled them with candy melts. It was super easy and we ate them that day and the next one. I have also heard of using hot caramel as glue but I would not do that because I am clumsy 😂. The hot glue hack is great if you are not going to eat the house! ❤

    What weirdo eats their gingerbread house?!? It’s for presentation only people! This is genius thank you! Me and my daughter were just discussing an alternative. That icing literally made us not want to do it anymore. This is awesome bless you!

      I am from Australia and we do eat our gingerbread houses. We make fresh gingerbread and every child gets their own house to decorate. We then wrap in cellophane and they can be eaten whenever. I am 52 and grew up doing this and all my kids too and now I can pass onto my grandkids.

      I've never done the Gingerbread House thing.
      I always thought they were Holiday decorations. A fun activity for kids to put together.
      Do you treat it like a cake/dessert? decorate it, eat some then wrap up the leftovers and store them away?

    • @michelleficca3804

      I agree. We always just used more icing than the kit came with. Pile it in very thick and let it dry. The glue is good if ur not eating tho

  • @vmcgriff
    @vmcgriff 10 місяців тому +2

    I totally 💯 agree with you!! I’ve used superglue for years to put together my gingerbread houses! I would let the kids use the icing in little bowls to dip the decoration to decorate and if they were not staying put - I would come along behind them and glue in place. So much more fun for everyone!! ❤

    I agree with you 100%. I have always wanted to make one; but the thought of eating it after all that time is gross! Could you spray it with a sealer if you want to keep it year after year for decoration? Hobby Lobby has a Nativity set one!
    Merry Christmas! May Jesus continue to bless you and your family

    Oh how I wish I had seen this a week ago! I had 4 grandkids here and a kit with 4 mini gingerbread houses. I am usually so calm, nothing phases me but I was so frustrated with these houses. I decided ahead of time that it would be easier if I put them together and let the kids decorate them. I had the hardest time, I would get one side together and when I put the other side up the house would fall apart. Or when I put the roof on the entire house would collapse. I finally got them together but I swore that I would never attempt to put a gingerbread house together again. Now I'm tempted.

    My kiddos are grown and seriously we have never eaten any gingerbread house. Actually we only put together one when they were little and my daughter and son were so sad that none of the candy would stay. I hope to use this great idea one day with my grandchildren. PS….people can be so rude and such coo-coo birds. You keep doing what you do and thank you!!! ❤

    I made my own and yes it was a "royal" pain. Always did it when the kids were asleep. I did NOT use a kit as the so called cookie in there is disgusting. I used cans etc to hold the pieces together and we did eat it because with my cookie it was yummy:) You go girl and do what works.

    Glue gun for the win! Done it for over 30 years and my children & grandchildren are normal, well-adjusted people. I bet the complainers have never even made one from a kit. Who in the universe would EVER eat a nonfood made in China a year ago with an inch of dust?!? Ewwww!!! Homemade gingerbread is safer, but I would still never eat it as they are stale after weeks. We alway have gingerbread men to nibble while we decorate our fake food house kits. Such a fun tradition right after our Thanksgiving feast!

    To the Internet meanies: Spread a little more "Love & Joy" and less "Bah Humbug". Some leeway in these traditional crafts will not spoil the Christmas spirit. Be kind when commenting, even when you don't agree. LOVE is the reason for the season, kiddos!

    We always ate the actual house. Of course, this was waaaaaay back when my mom made the gingerbread panels herself and my brother would stick them together with molten sugar 🙂. To be fair, many people will leave their gingerbread house outside for the birds and wildlife to eat once Christmas is over (and all the candy has been removed}, so hot glue still wouldn't be a good option.

  • @M.Seymour

    Yes to the hot glue if your not eating the premade kit. For homemade I use a caramel sauce and I pre-assembled it for any one that was decorating. They just decorate and eat the house within 48hrs. We make ours the week of Christmas an display on glass cake cake stand with glass cover. No dust.
