I actually was working on a t-shirt with a candy cane heart while this played... Tell me why I very nearly forgot my customer and added that to it?? (I did end up doing a small makeup bag with that for the hell of it though...)
When I was a young pup, we would use rice crispies as the internal structure of the house and simply stick the gingerbread walls onto the sides. Held up very well.
I love this person. So much positive vibes from her. Its like if im deppresssed Or sad, I can just watch some of her vids and I'll be fine. Haha. Please dont ever stop being so positive.
I think it's best to buy the icing separately so it's better quality? It's called royal icing or maybe I just got lucky lol cos I didn't have this problem the one time I made a gingerbread house
Or you could make your own icing, it's very simple. Just one egg white, 1,6 cups (or about 400 grams) of icing sugar and a small splash of vinegar essence. The vinegar is not necessary just adds a nice glow. Sure you could use any type of white vinegar.
I gotta say I love our kitchen. 😂 I would love to see you following a How to Cook That video. She has a bunch of cool recipes, and some are of gingerbread houses
I was having a very bad day, but as soon as the video started, I immediately started to feel better. You two always make me smile, and I can't tell you how much that's appreciated.
“Burnt sugar” ....caramel. Have you guys never watched the great British bake off? Lmao caramel is the most widely established solid way to fix biscuits together
Ummm I tried some of these jacks and they are amazing! First of all, decorating before putting it together seems like such a smart idea, can’t believe I didn’t think of it before AND the sugar to stick the sides together was a GAME CHANGER!!!!! It literally took me like 10 minutes to put the house together and no bits slid and fell off!
I have a gingerbread kits sitting on my kitchen counter and was kind of dreading doing it with my 3 year old granddaughter and I swear the 2 hacks of decorating them 1st and using the caramel to put it together has TOTALLY CHANGED MY GRINCH ATTITUDE!!!!!! Thanks guys!! 🎄🎁♥️🥰
We’ve used the melted sugar method since I was a kid more than 30 years ago and pretty sure my grandmother used it too, so pretty funny to see it going around as a new TikTok hack 😄 A tip from me is: save some of the icing and put it on the joints to make them look like snowy corners on the house instead of brown ones 😊 Also, you can dust icing sugar on top for a less chunky look on the snow 😊
"Are you ging to decorate any?" "If I can eat as I decorate." "[...] because this is one of the hacks.." Me: Getting your husband to decorate your Gingerbread Houses?
I've been giggling the whole video. You both are like me and my husband. We both watch both channels. Merry Christmas. You are amazing and I love how real you are with everything. Your reviews of things influence a lot of my buying.
Oh my god Rachel, you should do a book club with ur productivity books! I totally read high performance habits after ur recommendation! Would love to chat about it!
My mum always used melted sugar to glue the parts of the gingerbread house together, and I was really surprised when I found out that this is a bit unusual in some other countries. In Norway we call the melted sugar "knekk", which is basically an old fashioned name for caramel. I haven't made gingerbread houses in years, but I believe my sister still uses "knekk" when she makes them with her children. Since the caramel is so hot, I remember never being allowed to help put the house together, and I would join in for the decorating part. This brought back good memories!
The timing was perfection. I just took my gingerbread out of the oven when I sat down to watch. Will definitely be using the caramel sugar trick. Thank uuuu
Ive said it before and i'll stand by it, When Rach calls to ask Christopher something or show him something it reminds me of a teenage daughter asking her dad for help or showing him something shes proud of
Perfect timing! I’m decorating gingerbread houses with friends over Zoom this weekend! I think I’ll try to use grapes stems like vines on the house. These are all really cool and I’m feeling very inspired!!
When Christopher said “Ship that.” I legit lost it! That was so unexpected 🤣🤣🤣 These videos are seriously what I look forward to every week. Your energy & humour are everything! ❤️ Thank you for such enjoyable & fun videos!! Take care & enjoy the holidays!!
The timing for the book club is kind of perfect for me! I'm reading lord of the rings for the first time and I'm about a quarter of the way through the first one! I'm so excited to check this out!
I made mine yesterday. Didn't realize that decorating it before assembling it was a hack. I just thought to do it, since it would be way easier, and it really is! Do as much decorating as you can before assembling. Your gingerbread house will come out much better.
We have used life savers for stained glass windows. We crushed up various colors of life savers and put them in little piles on a cookie sheet and melted them in the oven. Then attached them in the open window on the back side of the wall with the royal icing.
Ooo... you could wrap the bendy candy cane around a straw and make a ringlet curl! That would be cute! Good job on the gingerbread house! That burnt sugar cement looks legit better than royal icing!
I love using sugar syrup! A quick tip is to cook it very little for something like a bread glaze, something fragile enough to shatter. Cook it longer until a clear light caramel so you can stick things together. But use it immediately after use if you cook it longer, and chill the gingerbread house when you are done because even the slightest bit humidity from the air can melt the top layer causing it to stick to things you don’t want it to; like decorations and sprinkles.
White chocolate its also a good way to attach the parts, I think that Ann Readon use that to make because it's sturdier and hardens faster. Also, Im ridiculously excited about the LOTR's book club. I've been looking for something like that for half of the year!
For the ice cream cone trees: pour whatever you want to coat them in (sprinkles, coconut, candy beads) onto a plate, frost your cone, then roll the cone in the candy on the plate. You can press down gently to make it stick.
My grandma would always use melted sugar to glue to gingerbread house together 😊 and she would bake it out of homemade super yummy gingerbread 🥰 such good memories!
Crushed hard candy works fantastically as candy pane / stained glass windows. I have never heard of gummy bears before for it and was a little surprised by that. The burnt sugar works for sure, but feels dangerous with the burn potential. Chocolate sets up really quickly too and you can put it in a piping bag (no tip).
The use of melted sugar to build gingerbread houses has been a thing for ages back home in Finland (possibly elsewhere), glad you found it useful, cause cause I know icing sucks for keeping things together 😅
The chemistry between you and your husband is freaking adorable.
Omg... I laughed so hard at the candy cane heart when you joined the broken ones together. 😂😂😂
That was so sweet! ❤️
Same here, it was so funny and cute. Best moment in the video 🥰
Ikr it was so cute 🥺
Ship that! :D
JAJAJAJAJJAJA SI JAJAJSJSJSJJS
I need a sweater with a candy cane heart in flames that says: SHIP THAT! 🤣
23:57 (just for reference)
I actually was working on a t-shirt with a candy cane heart while this played...
Tell me why I very nearly forgot my customer and added that to it?? (I did end up doing a small makeup bag with that for the hell of it though...)
Chris: the worlds WORST heart.
Rachel: IT LOOKS SO GOOD
3:52 Rachel: Smells a slab of gingerbread.
Also Rachel : “Does it smell gingerbready?” 😂😂😂
I died when you said "I need an adult" during the building phase 😂😂
I love how relatable Rachel is- “one for the house, one for the house, and one for me” 😋😂. I’d be the same way just eating a bunch of the decorations.
I saw that melted jolly ranchers is how to make stained glass bc it’ll harden again when it cools.
Rachel: "Kinda thinking back to the giant cookie cake"
Gingerbread house: Falls over*
Me: "It was destiny"
Omggg 🤣🤣

Okay I loved you and Christopher putting your broken heart back together. Awww I love these video's. So much
Christopher-“I’m an artist”
His shirt- yeah you are
😂
I will only be using that sugar hack instead of icing. I’ve NEVER had an icing from a kit that worked everrrrrrrrr
Hot glue works well too, and easy to cover up with icing :) also if you get Betty Crocker icing from the grocery things stick a lil better
I think it's best to buy the icing separately so it's better quality? It's called royal icing or maybe I just got lucky lol cos I didn't have this problem the one time I made a gingerbread house
I buy the prebuilt ones from Costco. It's so much easier with the kids. They don't have to wait for it to set up before decorating

So in the last scene where the gingerbread house collapsed insert a dinosaur toy with a name tag that says 2020....😂🤷🏼♀️😆
I love how she always does her makeup so good then she wears a hoodie 😂💖
Noor Badri She’s keeping it sexy LOL
you could have just turned the "top level" of the house inside out. Like just flip the cookie and you wouldnt have a extra door!
I figured I wouldn't be the only person with the same Solution. Architectural club right here lol
Yeah!
Same though!...
I was thinking just add a balcony some how! Lol
Melted white chocolate is a more kid friendly version of the burnt sugar hack, you just have to hold it a bit longer.
“It’s a verb!” 😂
The fact that Chris knows what shipping is is everything. Instant like! (It was already coming but that was just the cherry on top)! 😂❤️ it’s shipped.
Why wouldn't he know that though? Everyone knows what shipping is.
Windowpane candy I grew up with used crushed hard life savors.
Chris is the kind of real artist and creative. I love how reachel keeps on calling him whenever she does not know what to do❤️. #RelationshipGoals
In Sweden you always use “burnt” sugar as adhesive! It’s dangerous though 😅
Yes we do 😊
@@Jag... Japp, det gör vi 😜
In Finland as well!
Yeah caramel.
@@Rose-jz6sx Isn’t caramel more than just sugar?

Rachel is definitely a huge F.R.I.E.N.D.S fan 😂
With the "I know" 😂
...did the friends jumper in the other video not give it away?
"But the door is upside down!"
-"That's a minor detail"
You showed the true end. That was courageous. Can’t wait for next Saturday.
I’ve done the window one before with something similar to jolly ranchers and that works loads better, you should try it!! 😁
I love how much more comfortable chris seems to be on camera now! He's hilarious! You two are such an adorable couple... I ship it 😉❤
“But the door’s on the ceiling!”
“Minor details.” 🤣🤣
“Burnt sugar” ....caramel. Have you guys never watched the great British bake off? Lmao caramel is the most widely established solid way to fix biscuits together
Now I want to see them make 'Cinder Toffee' (otherwise known as honeycomb in the UK) and watch the carnage...
Wow that burnt sugar as icing part with the music was oddly stressful 😂
I was cringing so hard when she was trying to cut out the window 😂😂 it totally turned out better than I thought!
